I finally had the chance to try Seven Folding Dumpling House. I usually don't get to go to places like this very often because literally only three out of six people in the family like to eat dumplings or anything dim sum. Bummer. I know! I'm usually always outvoted when it comes to figuring out where to eat. Seven Folding Dumpling House, is on Marguerite Parkway and Avery, in our gorgeous city of Mission Viejo. Walking up to the restaurant you'll find a good amount of parking right on the lot. They have about 3-4 tables outside that I *think you can use for dining. Inside is a pretty ample sized dining room with plenty of tables. Restrooms are also clean and can be found straight to the back of the building. We were immediately seated. The service was very friendly and attentive throughout our experience. --What we ordered-- 1) Xao long bao (pork) $13.77 - 5/5. Steaming hot, juicy and very flavorful. 2) Fish roe shrimp & pork shumai $8.77 - 5/5. Plump and delicious. 3) wonton soup (pork) $12.77 - 3/5. The wontons were good and we really enjoyed this, however, the broth was unfortunately bland. 4) Green bean with garlic $15.77 - 5/5. Well seasoned and perfectly cooked. There were a couple longer pieces where I wish they would've ripped the seam of the green beans off because it got stuck when I tried to swallow it...twice. 5) Pork & shrimp dumplings (pan-fried) $13.77 extra &1 for pan-fry - 5/5. Crispy and tasty. 6) Cucumber salad $5.77 - 5/5. I normally don't order these because serving sizes for the price are expensive. This was so fresh you could taste it. The sauce was so good. I could eat this all by itself all day everyday. The portion size was really good. Overall we were highly satisfied with everything from the restaurant space, cleanliness, service, and the food. I came here with a coworker and we ordered the pork chop fried rice, BBQ pork buns, pork xiao long bao (XLB), truffle soup dumplings, and scallion pancake. Every single dish was top-notch. Pork Chop Fried Rice - The pork chop was perfectly golden and crispy on the outside while remaining juicy and tender inside. The fried rice was flavorful, well-seasoned, and packed with egg and vegetables, making it a complete meal on its own. BBQ Pork Buns - These were incredibly soft, fluffy, and pillowy with just the right touch of sweetness. The BBQ pork filling was tender, savory, and generously stuffed inside each bun. The green beans were so flavorful and we added the minced pork to it. Best green beans I've had in a while! Bbq pork buns: so pillowy sweet and soft. Everything a pork bun should be! We were seated promptly. Order can be taken through the QR code or with the waiters. Order was taken shortly after seating and food was served soon after. All orders came piping hot. We came here for a group lunch on a Thursday and it was almost completely empty! There were 9 people in our party, so we did family style within each side of the table (so our "family" was 5 people). We ordered pork xiao long bao, black truffle pork xiao long bao, pork cutlet fried rice, cucumber salad, hot and sour soup, and pork and shrimp steamed dumplings. I really liked the xiao long bao! The truffle flavor was very subdued - I couldn't really tell to be honest. They came in a vibrant purple color though, so it was beautiful! The pork and shrimp dumplings were also delicious. The fried rice with pork cutlet was good too. I felt like the cucumber salad wasn't quite at peak freshness, but it was still good. Our food came out very quickly. Xiao long bao - very juicy and skin was nice and thin. Hot and sour soup - very peppery and they give you a lot of soup. Siu mai - big, plum, and juicy. Very good flavors. Ha gow - this was the one true miss out of everything we ordered. Lacked flavor and the skin was thick. Shrimp fried rice - my daughter liked it but I thought it was slightly too wet, but the flavors were good. I ordered pork dumplings, pork/shrimp wonton soup, beef/onion dumplings, 3-piece vegetable spring rolls, chicken fried rice, and Passionfruit green tea. I ordered ALL of my dumplings, steamed. Soup, ALL dumplings, spring rolls, and tea, were all delicious! Tea was refreshing, and dumplings were succulent and juicy! The chicken fried rice was mediocre, at best! The soup was flavorful. In fact, AVOID the chicken fried rice, it was way too moist. When I arrived yesterday, it wasn't super crowded. The service was poor and fell short. I felt ignored and unvalued. No real communication. I had to yell for my certain things, after politely waving them to come to my table for to-go boxes and check. They didn't check in to see how I was doing or if I liked anything else. The service was so disappointing. As delicious as the food is, I'm saddened to say that I won't be returning. Cucumber salad - This was a little sweet for my taste, BUT by adding the chili oil - it made it just right. 2. Fried Sticky Rice Dumpling with Ground Pork - These were delicious. Throughout our dine-in, no one really check up on us or refilled our water. It took multiple attempts to catch anyone's attention for bowls & spoons. We also gave up on asking for help, so we went up to pay the bill and got the togo containers at the register. I think they need more workers and their service would definitely improve. Seven Folding Dumpling House is a new restaurant in the Mission Viejo area not far off of Rt 5 exit. Nobody around me have heard of them. I decided to give it a try with a friend for an early Monday lunch because.....I mean what better way to make the Monday blues go away!!? Just eat some hot steaming dumplings. Feel better. Or so I thought. The restaurant had just one table occupied when we arrived right around 11am. The server tried to seat us right next to them. They were talking rather loudly and no other table was occupied as it was just us and the other party. The server Leo told us that we can't sit elsewhere because they are not meant for people who are only a party of 2. We let him know we don't want to sit right next to someone who is talking so loudly and they have no other customers, and plenty of other tables currently available. He reluctantly let us sit by the table meant for party of 4. The whole restaurant had at least 6-8 booth seats and another 4-6 free standing tables in the middle of the restaurant floor. It made no sense to give us grief over wanting to sit away from a loud talking table. As if that didn't give us enough bad impression right away, the laminated menu had multiple red chili oil stains that made the pages greasy. The table we got to sit down had numerous stains as well, giving a sticky icky perception. The orders were supposed to be easy to place by scanning the QR code at the table but the page never loaded. Brilliant! The WiFi there is not for customer use and for whatever reasons, it gave me 1 bar for signal / data connection. Leo came back around to take our order right away but we were not ready. How could we? We were barely on the 2nd page of the menu........ and when we were ready, it took them good 5 minutes of standing around to notice us waiting on them. We wanted to order some shrimp dumplings, Cantonese BBQ pork buns, chicken and corn dumplings as well as vegetable dumplings. The menu says that the latter 2 can be boiled, pan fried, or steamed. I wanted boiled dumplings but we were told by Leo that boiled dumplings are gummy and they don't offer it. He said that we can order it as pan fried dumplings as an alternative. I didn't feel like having to argue again over our preferences so we settled with steamed dumplings even though that's not what we wanted. The pork buns arrived first but one of the buns arrived fallen apart already. Rachel has a very snarky haughty attitude, which I didn't appreciate. My friend has issues with her joints and had trouble with chopsticks. They straight up ignored us looking the other way even though one of them made eye contact. So she had to get up from the seat to ask for other utensils and he handed the utensils to me, instead of the friend who asked the fork and knife. SERIOUSLY? The other food items arrived shortly afterwards and none of them really tasted all that good. The pork buns had a weird Frank's hot sauce or buffalo sauce flavor. I wasn't expecting that at all. The dumplings tasted stale and gummy. I don't think it would have mattered whether it was boiled, pan fried, or steamed. The stuffing inside for both items just had very little to no flavors. The chicken and corn dumpling filling looked grey and very unappetizing. The shrimp dumplings were ok. Looked good visually, but the shrimp itself looked ground up and didn't have whole shrimp inside. The crystal dumpling skin had an odd sticky texture that made it hard to chew or cut it in half. The vegetable dumplings were ok. Not something I wanted to eat more than a piece of. We ended up with huge amounts of leftovers to take home as neither of us wanted to eat much of the dumplings. We had trouble flagging down Rachel and Leo just to obtain the takeaway container or the check because they walked right past us and ignored us again. Leo asked us finally towards the end how the food was. I don't know what he was expecting us to say at that point as we were literally packing our stuff to-go.
