was craving asian food after driving from the bay and this spot came up on yelp! and once again, fellow yelpers did not disappoint. we were seated immediately. we were hungry so decided on what we were ordering quickly. and I say within minutes of ordering the food was coming out. and OMG it was delicious! we had the beef with tofu, fried rice, and honey walnut shrimp. they even gave us free fried wontons. would definitely recommend this place and would come back if ever in town again. read more

Craving something Asian and Yelp pointed us to Asian Kitchen in AV. We lived 5 minutes away years ago and never checked this place out. Totally regretting it! We came here Sunday, 3-ish pm. We were the only patrons and had dibs on any table/seating. There is a nice outdoor patio for eating outside. The establishment is very clean and welcoming. Booths are spacious and there is a good size bar in the middle with bar stools and a big t.v. to watch sports or news. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and polite. Got us water and fried wanton chips with an orange sweet sauce. Ordered: - Yang Chow Fried Rice - Orange Chicken - Sesame Balls Overall? Delicious! Best orange chicken we've eaten and the fried rice was so good. Sesame balls had red bean and so tasty! Props to our female server who came to talk to us and made us feel so welcomed. Middle of our heat wave, so Chinese take out seemed perfect. We enjoyed ample portions of tender beef in black bean sauce with peppers, delicious dry sautéed green beans with garlic and Har Gow, dim sum, that were filled with jumbo shrimp. We arrived around 4:30 a.m., and they had a happy hour dinner special, which was quite affordable. The portions were a decent size! We went here for lunch last weekend with our two kids and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is nicely decorated and comfortable, feels very clean and modern. Our server was lovely and so so friendly and just the right amount of attentiveness without being too much. The food was so tasty and sharing plates of entrees was perfect. FOOD: The food here is great! Most ecverything I've had here is good! The only thing that I would say was okay, is the soup dumplings. I've tried a variety of different dishes in the few times I've been here, so I would recommend it. The Ma Po Tofu is really good! I enjoyed that a lot. On our last visit, we had Cashew Chicken, Green Beans, Vegetable Fried Rice, and Chow Mein, which were all good. They also give you wontons and a sweet and sour sauce when you first sit down. SERVICE: The service is pretty good. Been here a few times for a fundraiser. The last time we came, our server was nice, but not overly friendly. He just took our orders and brought our items, but didn't have any conversations with us. DECOR/AMBIANCE: Its a nice restaurant with seating inside and outside. There is a bar inside with seating around it. There is a unique feature of a garage door that opens up to part of the outside patio area. Thought that was interesting! There were six of us this evening and we sat at a round table that had a fabulous Lazy Susan in the middle so it was easy for us to share our food. Ken was our server and he cracked us up so many times he was so much fun. The food for us was outstanding. You know it's a good restaurant when everything you order has a different flavor sometimes it isn't that way but this was great. Meh, the food was just so-so. I've had better but decided to try some place I'd never tried and, so, came to this one. I got it to go. I was a bit disappointed in the main dish, which was chow mein noodles with shrimp, beef and chicken. It was mostly noodles and did not have much flavor. I had to hunt for the protein. For the price being as high as it was, I was actually expecting at least a good amount of shrimp, beef and noodles. Most of what I got and paid a LOT for was just noodles, and they were a tad on the greasy side. The veggie fried rice and egg rolls were satisfactory, nothing outstanding, but still acceptably meh. And, so, this place goes off my "to try" list, and the hunt continues for a good Chinese restaurant in the OC. read more

Is it just me, or has something changed with the quality of the food here? The last two times we visited, the dishes just weren't hitting the way they used to. (shrugs) Anyone else getting the same vibe? In my opinion, it went from great to just... "m'eh." And that's disappointing because I used to really enjoy the food here. Even though it was on the pricier side, it delivered - until recently. To be fair, the service and ambiance are still great. But the overall quality of the food seems to have dipped, and when you factor in the cost-to-value ratio? SMH. I don't mind paying a bit more for excellent, flavorful dishes, but it's harder to justify when the food feels middle-of-the-road. We haven't returned since those last two underwhelming visits, though I'm tempted to give Asian Kitchen another chance. Still, I hesitate based on our most recent experiences. I've seen this restaurant for a few years now and finally got around to try it out. We were so glad we came here tonight. Great food, good service! We were seated immediately after we checked in. Smaller restaurant with about 8-10 tables inside. We noticed there were also several outside on the patio when we left. I had the seafood clay pot, which came with fish, shrimp, calamari, tofu, and mixed vegetables. It was very delicious. The calamari was super tender, the fish was very well seasoned and tasty. Tofu was perfectly done, golden on the outside and still soft on the inside. My husband had the honey walnut shrimp and it was very good. Service was nice. We had Ken as our server and he stayed in the top of everything, bounced back and forth between all tables and also trying to bartending. They have few other staff in the restaurant but I believe they are food runners since I didn't see them taking orders nor serving like Ken. Definitely a must return. read more

I've heard so many good things about this restaurant that I had to try it while in the area. I visited Asian Kitchen with family (who live in the area and already frequent the restaurant) for dinner. First and foremost, we had an amazing server, he was super attentive and kind! As for the food, everything we ordered was serious sooo good! Im not a huge fan of American Chinese food but this place definitely changing my mind! Please give the orange beef a try, trust me. The beef was tender, crispy and saucy, love the flavor! The green beans still had a little snap, great garlic flavor and went really well with the beef! And you can never go wrong with beef chow-fun. Lastly, we got sesame balls for dessert! The portions were generous and everything was delicious! I highly recommend and don't forget - try the orange beef! read more

We've tried Asian Kitchen multiple times in the span of last year and each time we are disappointed in the quality and lack luster food. I truly love everything about this place, the food, the service and the atmosphere is so incredible & inviting. I have made several visits and have never been disappointed. They have one of the best old fashion drinks I have ever had. The hot and sour soup is the best I ever had since I move here from New Orleans!!! (Just need to add a few more drops of rice wine vinegar- which they will provide). Their dim sum is incredible. The lunch specials will not disappoint you. Many to choose from. It took over 30 minutes to place our order bc they kept transferring us to other people and were not helpful or friendly. Then they got the whole order completely wrong and forgot things. If we hadn't noticed the could have sent one of the members of my family to the hospital. Then when we tried to call back over and over again to inform them of what happened they didn't pick up. Discovered Asian Kitchen searching through Yelp. Located in a large plaza with a huge parking lot where most of the businesses were closed on a Saturday night. In the corner of the lot, a collection of cars parked for this 'hidden gem' of a restaurant. Most customers were seated inside, however outdoor seating area is fantastic. Quiet and perfect for a delicious meal. We ordered the greatest hits and they all were outstanding. Well seasoned, perfectly balanced with tender pieces of chicken and beef. Lettuce wraps were a winner as well! All of this plus a fantastic server who worked so hard to ensure we enjoyed our experience. He wanted everything to be perfect. Felt like we were being hosted in his home and he wanted to make the best impression. Even asked where we were from and invited us to return since we enjoyed everything. Torn on the review.. I wanted to like this place and have heard great things about it. Food- was alright, they were able to custom make spicy edamame for us, which was really good. The food was good, but not great. The beef tasted just like panda express meat, almost fake or low quality soaked in baking soda and then tenderized to make it softer. and wow, so much broccoli. The chicken as not bad either. Service - We were at the point of waiting for so long for someone to take the order , and they were slow, we started a 5 minute timer, and were going to leave, but at minute 4, they showed up to take the order. Overall, it's alright, but not memorable for being great. I dont know if were on an off-day for them, but with that, I have no reason to come back. We tried this restaurant on a Tuesday evening. We arrived after six. Plenty of parking and lots of available seating. We had the crispy Vietnamese rolls, orange chicken and the traditional fried rice. The meal came with complimentary wonton chips with sauce. All the food was wonderful. The orange chicken can be a little spicy but they offered to modify it to make it milder. This was some of the best orange chicken I've ever had. It was cooked just right and the flavor and texture were near perfect. The fried rice was good. Among other ingredients, there was broccoli and bean sprouts. Not what I am accustomed to in fried rice but I liked it. The restaurant was clean. The atmosphere was good. The servers were polite, friendly and helpful. The portions were very generous. I have been here a couple times. The food is acceptable, but not what I would say is true Chinese authentic - but they cater to the locals, so I understand. I went there for lunch with several friends (non-Chiinese). Though the food was acceptable, I wish they would expand upon their lunch offerings - it is rather limited. Don't ask for any substitutions, or any modifications to the lunch offerings - they did not seem to appreciate the requests. I am not too sure I will be going back. read more

The golf buddies and I were looking for a different place to have lunch as opposed to our favorite after golf spot, Daily's in San Clemente. That is still a great spot, but the one buddy suggested we try Asian Kitchen for something different. Not too far from us in San Clemente, so we agreed and met there. Walking in, we were greeted by the server (owner?) who directed us to a booth, but since I was having some back issues and I'm a bit fluffy I requested a normal table and we were immediately shown to a table with no issues. Also, I'm not a big fan of being in a booth with the guys. It's just me, that's how I roll. My first impression is that the place was nice, clean, modern with a cool bar in the middle of the dining room. A very good first impression. The buddy who suggested we try this place had been several times before, so he had some suggestions for what we would eat. After chatting it through, we decided to get a bunch of things to share, more on the tapas side of things and not family style chinese entrees. That sounded good so we asked the buddy to order whatever he wanted and we would be cool with that. What a great way to avoid the "menu anxiety" that I get when I need to pick something, have too many choices I want to try and everyone else is ready to order. Whew! Thanks Dude! To start we got the following: + Crispy Vietnamese Rolls - Pork-filled and fried golden brown, served with Romaine lettuce and sweet Vietnamese chili sauce (4 rolls) - These were very good but super hot. Burn your tongue off HOT. Similar to spring rolls, but I have never had rolls served with lettuce that you wrap around the roll. The lettuce acted like a pot holder to fool you into thinking that the roll was not frick'n hot!! + Lettuce Wraps - Chicken sautéed with white onions, water chestnuts and celery in white sauce. Sprinkled with dried garlic and served with sweet plum sauce and 4 small pieces of lettuce. Very good and I would order again, perhaps with shrimp to try something different. We were sure we needed more lettuce, but ended up eating the remaining stuffing with forks. + Siu Mai - Steamed pork & shrimp dumpling. (4 pcs) - One of my personal favorite Dim Sums. These were the hugest Siu Mai I have ever seen. The size of a ProV1 golf ball. We had to cut them in half to stuff them in our mouths and they were delicious. Get these and be amazed by their gigantic size and fantastic taste! Get 'em NOW! + Salt and Pepper Calamari - Tossed in garlic, green onions, fresh jalapenos, bell peppers in salt and pepper - This was a solid MEH. Not awful, but small, over fried pieces of calamari. The one buddy said he felt it was too salty. I tried with the sauce that accompanied it and with the crispy chili oil that was served as a side for anything. Still just OK and I'd avoid it next time. + Speaking of the crispy chili oil, that was great. We ended up having to get another bowl of it and we all used it on everything we ate! Ask for this if it is not brought to you. Beg for it if you have to! We probably would have been fine sharing the above, but we wanted to fill ourselves to the point of asking the server to not let us order any more. Ha! Continuing our tour of the menu, we ordered and chowed down the following tasty nuggets: + Har Gow - Steamed shrimp dumplings - Very good and huge pieces of shrimp inside. We destroyed a couple of them trying to use chopsticks to get them off the serving tray. Ended up using our hands to get them on our plates. You will thank me when you order this! + Steamed BBQ Pork Bun - Steamed bun filled with BBQ pork - Very bun-nee. Lotsa bun. Suggest renaming to BUN With A Dab Of Pork. Tasted OK, but I would not get these again. Of course it was the one item I suggested we try. Hey, the buddies invited me to have lunch with them, so it's really their fault. + Xia Long Bao (Soup Dumplings) - Pork -filled steamed dumplings - I was excited for these, since I have not had them in some time. They were served in little tiny little pie pans. While the taste was good, they were not as soupy as I would expect and even a bit dried out. Upon my return, I will try these again. + Chive Shrimp and Pork Dumplings - These came out as flat cakes cut in two. I will have these again when I return. While I had the very tasty iced tea, the buddies had their traditional after golf beverage of Chardonnay. La Crema to be exact. You will not be disappointed by the very generous pours at Asian Kitchen. If you told me you were disappointed by the pour I would scream Fake News! By the way, I will return to Asian Kitchen as it was a good experience from the very nice, attentive server to the good food and good friends. I ordered from them and was given the wrong order, called them and they said that's my problem, I should have them repeat the order. They are very racist and treat client without the respect that befits a customer. I dined in once and said I would never eat their food again because of the way they made us feel in their restaurant. They often make mistakes on peoples order and haven't tried to be better in service, or food. read more

Just to start off with the food is absolutely delicious. We thought that their clear soup broth in the chicken noodle soup is one of the best we've ever had. My son demolished the fried rice. But that's not why I'm leaving the review and giving them five stars it was because tonight's delivery was a little bit of a mess they brought us the food but we're staying at a hotel and there was no easy way to eat it with the way that they delivered. We called up and let him know the issue they made it right brought us the containers we needed to enjoy the food and we are so glad that we chose Asian kitchen for our dinner tonight.
