No complaints whatsoever! We ate every meal there (breakfast & dinner for 3 days while our house was tented for termites). Food was super. Fun and very friendly old school staff, probably been there a long time. Patrick, Rick and Virginia were excellent, attentive servers. The chef deserves kudos. Short visit to San Diego and met a friend who had eaten at Seven Seas Cafe before. We arrived at 9 AM on a Saturday and there were a couple of full tables. We sat on the patio on a beautiful 77 degree day. Our server greeted us after 10 mins. None of the tables were set up, so I had to get menus to get us started. We ordered a 3-meat skillet, the Breakfast Croissant plate and I got an omelette. We added two coffees and an iced tea. Sadly, our breakfasts didn't arrive for 15 mins. They must've had one cook working. The Skillet and the Croissant looked good enough for me to order if I ever came back. My omelette was very standard, so I acquired some salsa to perk it up. Service was very minimal and the food was definitely forgettable, so probably no return visit. read more

I stayed at the adjoining hotel and had a breakfast here before a conference day across the street. I ordered separate biscuit with a side of gravy. It came with two biscuits, so ended up being about 60% of the biscuits and gravy enter on the menus. My wife and the eggs hash browns and toast and shared an egg and potatoes with me so we were both happy and saved some money. IN-A-PINCH DINING @ The Best Western Seven Seas! The Seven Seas Cafe had speedy service and the waiter wasn't too bad. You can tell he had his favorites and dedicated his time to them over all the other customers but he was never rude. I tried the cafe on Night 1 of my stay as I was craving a sandwich, the BLT was okay. The bacon was dry and the veggies didn't taste super fresh, but it was serviceable. The fries are amazing here, definitely would recommend those! The next night I returned because I had a massive headache and didn't want to leave my hotel so I tried the pizza. Again, it was fine but nothing spectacular . I actually enjoyed the pizza much more than the sandwich. I just think I came in too late and they kind of rushed everything to get me out the door on the second night. The cafe is super quiet and great for having a no frills bite. I thought it was pretty clean and roomy. I really liked the outdoor seating, there was plenty of room for groups out there. I had dinner here a couple of nights before, and was so good decided to come back one more time! My previous review stands for all the great details. Ordered the same zucchini sticks and Mexican cobb salad (no bacon). I did get a glass glass this time for the iced tea, and the salad came on a round plate instead of an oval plate, which is better for me as I like to chop and mix the salad so all the dressing gets evened out and all the toppings are throughout the salad. The food was as hot, fresh and delicious as the previous meal - I love consistency! My server tonight was a different gentleman, Senad K., and he was as excellent as my previous server! He never let my iced tea get below half full, and was constantly checking in for any additional needs. Listening to him serve the other tables, I can tell you that he knows and loves his job and deals wonderfully with people - both welcome aspects of this service industry; it's what keeps people coming back. And after my last two wonderful dinners here, I too shall be back! read more

This hotel cafe is a real gem. The cook and server at dinner are just amazing. They are so friendly and attentive. The food is really good and always prepared to order. The ingredients are fresh and the portions are big. I think some of the prices are a little high but these days you can say that about a lot of places with not so good service. First visit here. Ordered a BLT sandwich and fries, and an order of Tortilla Soup to go. The sandwich was great, the bacon was a bit too salty for me, but the crunchy fries were fresh and delicious. The Tortilla soup was full of shredded chicken, sweet corn ,tomatoes , rice and fresh cilantro topping... tasty, I must say. Just as I was finishing the soup, I thought , hmmm, where is the TORTILLA ( chips)?Anyway, the soup was tasty enough to omit the tortillas ! This hotel based restaurant is just great. The primary server and chef make a great team. Everything is good and made fresh to order. I've eaten here several times and while it's not fine dining, they always provide a great meal with personal touch and a smile. It's a lot like a Dennys but I think better by far. I am staying at this hotel for 5 days while I have a relative nearby in the hospital. So of course the first morning we came down here for breakfast before heading out for the day. I have to report, this was some of the worst pancakes I've ever had in my life and that's saying a lot. They were beyond rubbery, I could not even cut them with my knife and fork. When I finally was able to get a piece to put in my mouth it was like chewing shoe leather. I have no idea what they did to these to make them like that. I also ordered a side of bacon and a sliced banana. The bacon was overcooked and inedible. The banana was the one thing that was okay. Coffee was okay and service was fine. But judging strictly on the food, we decided not to go back again and went to the grocery store and got our own breakfast snacks for the rest of the week. read more

This cafe is located within the Best Western Hotel. I am staying at the Super 8 immediately next door, and after I got here, needed something to eat, quick. I saw this place outside of my hotel room, and since I just spent several hours in the car, was happy to see that I could walk and not drive to this place. I came here with my laptop and was seated immediately. The staff was friendly and courteous. I felt the menu was okay, maybe a little high in the prices. Decent selection of food. Place has tons of seating, clean, cutely but plainly decorated. I stuck with a bowl of soup. I didnt feel like splurging on a full fledged meal, and wanted to keep it simple. I think the manager was the one who waited on me. Not that it matters, but he was very nice. Soup was hot, tasty, and presented nicely. It cost me $7 plus tip, but I was starving, so it was $7 well spent. This place isn't horrible..really its not. BUT, I dont feel that its worth a special trip. read more

I was not in the mood to sit around the house or cook something with the extreme heat so headed out and ended up here. I have passed it a number of times. I ended up with the prime rib dinner. It was pretty good. It was decent cooked to order. Vegetables were a little over cooked but not to bad, The prime rib was average. Nothing spectacular. A little pricey but not bad. They do have an extensive menu for a small restaurant tucked away among the hotels in Mission Valley. read more

I am here for a week long training session and staying at the motel. I usually expect a mediocre dining experience when eating in motel cafes. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised when I visited the Seven Seas Cafe. I went there for breakfast and was promptly seated. The staff was very friendly, better than most places. I ordered scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. It came promptly and was cooked to perfection. The eggs were light and fluffy and the hash browns were crisp and tasty. The only two things that kept this place from getting five stars was the coffee was a little strong. It was like it sat on the burner a little to long. The other was the waitress didn't Come back to get our money promptly after leaving our checks. Minor thing but kept them from getting 5 stars. If I had rated just the food it most definitely would have been 5 stars. read more

This is just a small dive cafe right next to the Best Western. Thought we would have a quick meal before our road trip. We shared powder sugar dusted french toast apple fritters and a bowl of seasonal fruit. This is the first time we had applefritter french toast and this stuff was great. Dipped in their special batter made the fritters soft with a subtle chewey texture to it. Really good. It went great with the fruit bowl too. Definitely will be back here on the rebound. read more

Went here because we were hungry and just checked into the Best Western Seven Seas where it's located. The place reminds me of an old diner. The menu clearly hasn't been updated in 20 years. The prices for their food is ridiculous. I got a burger for $12 while my boyfriend got some dry-ass tuna wrap with 3 pieces of sliced tomatoes for $15! DO NOT COME HERE unless you don't like money. Otherwise, spend more money and eat mediocre food. read more

The the waiter and busser were "in the weeds" from the get go... * Huge delays in ordering and food arrival. * Then, they gave me someone else's order. * When they finally located & delivered my order, it was cold and sausage was undercooked. But, I could never flag them down again. * While waiting, noticed that many seated customers had similar problems to me. * And then, noticed that many empty tables were not bussed. As the cafe started to fill up and customers were directed to our section by the host, they had nowhere to sit. I should have warned them to run away while they still had a chance! * Lastly, my meal did not agree with me all day... or night. ;-( While the rest of the hotel was acceptable, don't bother with this cafe. read more

Acceptable place for breakfast, but nothing to write home about. Rather pricey but what do you expect? It's a hotel & they are holding you hostage if you want a meal onsite. The first time I ate here, in Feb 2013, my vegetarian breakfast had some hunks of meat in it - they apparently do not make much effort to clean the grill or their utensils. The meal I ate a few days ago was better, but still fairly bland, although they do have hot sauce on every table, which makes up for the lousy salsa. The fruit salad was almost entirely melons, which is never a good sign. Nothing on the lunch or dinner menu interests us, so I can't comment on the quality. If I could give half stars this would be 2 1/2; I'll give it 3 because I obviously thought it was good enough to try again for breakfast. read more

I got breakfast here today and all I ordered were 2 buttermilk pancakes and 3 strips of bacon. With tip, I ended up paying $15! Talk about pricey! The food was not bad, but it was definitely not worth paying that much when you can get pancakes at McDonald's for a fraction of that. Service was prompt, too, as it should have been.
