We celebrated my birthday with a lovely lunch at Sevmar Bistro in Salem. Everything was delicious! We all ordered the chicken kebab with rice, grilled vegetables, and a side salad, and for appetizers we shared pita chips with hummus and pita along with spanakopitas. For dessert they surprised me with a birthday slice of carrot cake, which was the perfect sweet ending. The space is beautifully decorated with floral aesthetics and a bright, welcoming atmosphere. There's even a real London red phone booth outside the entrance, and we each got a cute red phone booth keychain to take home, which was such a fun touch. For drinks, my friends tried the special martinis while I had the raspberry fizz, which was super refreshing and perfect for welcoming the spring season. The food was fantastic and the service was friendly and attentive. There's also plenty of parking, which is always a plus. The only tiny con was the music overhead was a bit loud... let's just say at one point our table conversation sounded more like we were at an indoor concert than having lunch. Another small downside was the bathroom situation--there seemed to be only one or two stalls for men and women, so there was a bit of a wait Overall, it was a wonderful birthday spot! read more

This was my first time visiting Sevmar. The food was delicious & Tessa was wonderful.

The food was delicious and definitely made with love. Surface was friendly, and one of the white staff noticed that the sun was in my eyes and offered to move our table which we gratefully accepted. The restaurant is in kind of a non-descriptive strip mall type of building, but the interior is really beautiful and inspired. Underwelming experience at Sevmar. It was Friday evening and we got right in without a reservation. We were seated and then the person that seated us told us were could not sit there, and then We were seated out in the back room. It was very loud- club music going, people talking loud over the music, and screeching children that did not want to be there. Tables are very close togther as well. We ordered the cabbage rolls, chicken kabob, and haddock. The server brought out the wrong dinner- was corrected, Cabbage rolls came and they were warm and tasted well- good with the thin pita bread that was on the table. Salad- nice and fresh and nice homemade dressing. Iceberg lettuce was kind of boring. Chicken kabab was nice and tender and flavorful- a good portion. It came with thin fries and grilled peppers and onion. Overall the food was decent- not sure I would want to come back here anytime soon as there are plenty of other options here in Salem. read more

Sevmar's food is absolutely delightful. Portions were huge, drinks were great. We got the mezze platter for four of us to start with spanakopita on the side. Both things were delish and the platter was a great spread of things I already knew I liked (grape leaves) while trying new things (stuffed cabbage and kibbee (which looked scary and alien-like but was actually decent)). We were all somewhat full from the apps and decided we would all split meals 2 + 2. My mans and I got the chicken schwarma which they split between two plates, without us having to ask which was nice. Meal was great and came with a salad / side (we got rice). Again, portions were huge and I even had leftovers from my half of the meal. Our friends got the chicken kabobs which they enjoyed minus their baked potato which they were sad about :( Now, the reason for only 3 stars was that the service was simply put, strange. We came for a res at 5:15pm and left around 8pm, with 75% of that due to the half hour increments between our server checking in on us about drinks or if we wanted a meal. We had to order the platter twice to our server and drinks took about 15-20 minutes to come out each time. When we got our side salad for our main course a different server came and cleared our salad plate and we were still eating it, womp womp. Sevmar is a visually beautiful spot. The menu and its pricing were a great value with a lot of Mediterranean options. I really wanted to love this place but it just didn't go as hoped. Our server was just really not attentive or right for their job, unfortunately. They didn't check on us, didn't refill drinks, and got the order wrong. Worse yet, they argued that we ordered wrong, which I'll get to in a moment. We were served "bread" which was just bland, store-bought pita with little containers of butter. This was a little weird so we didn't really touch it. We also ordered the hummus. It turned out to be a positive that we didn't eat the pita, because the hummus is served with nothing at all. No carrots or celery, and no pita. Very strange to get just a plate of mashed chickpeas. Had we eaten the pita with butter like it was presented, we'd have no way to eat the hummus other than with a spoon -- something I've never done and feels a little strange. We also ordered a chicken kabob meal (my wife's), and a Greek salad and some lemon cilantro chicken tenders. I was asked if I wanted the tenders on my salad, but I ordered them separately. The food took forever. A good 30 minutes or more when there were only two other tables seated in the restaurant. When it came out, it was bone-in chicken wings, and my salad. Before I could speak, my wife pointed out to the waiter we had ordered tenders and not wings. To which the waiter said he heard us say wings. Meanwhile, this guy had discussed with me getting the tenders on my salad. No one on the planet gets bone-in chicken wings on a salad, so he clearly wasn't paying attention to anything or was covering for his mistake. Because the food took so long, we asked if a replacement would take as long. We were reassured it wouldn't. Except it did take that long. It took so long my wife had completely finished eating, and I had finished my entire salad and some of my wife's meal since I had no protein. At this point we are now waiting for the waiter to come back to tell them forget it, we are done, and he is nowhere to be found. Much more time goes by and eventually he appears with the chicken tenders. I explain we are now done with our meals, and I don't wanna pay for the chicken tenders after waiting this long. Now, I realize I am refusing them at this point, so I am no longer entitled to them. But you have a customer who didn't get to eat their food, is unhappy, and you are holding their food right in front of them. In good faith, I think it would have made sense to give me the chicken to go. I mean, for food safety reasons, they're just going to throw it away, anyway, right? Nope. And here is the real reason I chose to write this review. I made a comment about how a decent place would have offered to give me the chicken tenders, since they're just going to throw them away anyway. The waiter then informed me that they wouldn't throw it away, they'd take it in the back and hold it until someone orders them again. So that means that the plate of chicken tenders that was brought out, put in front of me, and carried around by the waiter, was then brought back, placed down, and sat there until another customer ordered what they thought was a fresh order of food. This new customer was then served old, handled food that was rejected by another customer. When I realized that's the food safety standards and protocols at this place, not only would I never go back, but I knew I was going to write this review and call attention to this disgusting practice and negative overall experience. read more

So KNOW there are TWO Bistros. One in Salem & one in Methuen. I'm sitting in Salem & Martha was sitting in the Methuen restaurant lol. Thankfully, we quickly realized what was up & Martha came up to Salem. The place is Small, be aware & the tables are tight. PRO - The drinks were a terrific, heavy pour (wine) & they had a very nice cocktail menu. I ordered Lamb Kabobs, which I love but rarely have. Martha got a salad with salmon. We both LOVED our entrees. CON- It's small & the tables are tight. SO- Know which restaurant you are meeting at, but DEFINITELY check our Sevmar if you are up Salem way! I have visited this ethnic eatery a few times, and the food has been quite appetizing. Bishops great? I highly doubt there will ever be another Bishops, yet Sevmar's food is definitely tasty. But you sense a "but?" Well, you're right. My experience with the service has been spotty at best. In fact, on one occasion several months back, our petite blonde server felt it more important to flirt with an older, attractive man at the bar rather than come back to take our order (we had waited over 15 minutes before she returned). I was specific regarding the place I wanted to sit, and I swear the woman's passive-agressive side kicked in. Having said that, we had encountered a similar service deficiency on a prior visit, so who knows. In short, the owners seem to have the food model down. Food is delicious, the steak and lamb tips, salmon and Mediterranean specialties are consistently good as is the service. Mixed drinks are unique, well thought out and customized on request. Was lucky to show up early in the evening and discovered that the only way to get a table was with a reservation. Wish this had been posted, even as a recommendation. Regardless grabbed a couple of seats at the bar and it was all roses from there. Veronica was very friendly and helpful in making a delicious drink and taking the food order. Note, the published drink menu is pretty limited but Veronica and company were able and willing to make just about anything you could ask for. I ordered the glazed Salmon which was totally dried out and edges hard as a rock. Waitress offered to replace Salmon but did not want to bother. Went here for dinner tonight for the first time, while we've frequented plenty to Jocelyn's in Methuen. The food was incredible, the servers were attentive, and we had our 3 year old daughter with us, and Jocelyn took her for an extra special visit to the kitchen to let her pick out some snacks and even at dessert came back to let her pretend to be a server and bring out the slice of cake. Black walnut manhattan. Was different and very Tasty. Our server Josh took our app order. No pressure to order dinner right aaY. We started with the Mezza platter. Beautiful tasty assortment with Baba ganoush, hummus, grape leaves, stuffed cabbage, kibbee, falafel, tabbouleh. Only thing missing for me was red onion. Big portion. Amazing taste. He had lamb kabobs with rice pilaf. Lamb was cooked to perfection with great flavor. I went for the Mediterranean Pasta. Was served piping hot. Flavor was superb. Espresso martini was perfect. Ricotta pistachio cake for dessert since we were celebrating a birthday. Creamy and lovely pistachio flavor. Dining area has comfy velvet chairs and warm atmosphere. Went for the first time to Sevmar for lunch. We ordered the mezze platter and it was plenty of food for the two of us. The falafels were the best I've ever had. We ordered desserts - l baklava and a piece of pistachio cake. The cake was amazing and the baklava was good, but dry. Their drink menu looked enticing with a variety of signature cocktails. Our server was friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was nice, but a bit chilly because it's winter and the seating area is small and open, and the door is continuously opening by people coming in for takeout. I'm am beyond excited to share my experience at Sevmar! I came here with 4 others on a Saturday night at 6pm. Good thing we made a reservation because it was very busy and there is not a lot of seating inside. While it was a little tight, I was comfortable and could converse with my party with ease. The food here is outstanding! They start you off with pita bread and butter...I do wish they'd give you hommus or tzatziki but still decent pita bread that I saved to eat with my salad. All dinners come with a salad. The Greek salad and Caesar salads were excellent. For my main meal, I ordered the chicken shawarma, which came with a lot of chicken! The grilled vegetables were so soft and grilled to perfection! I definitely left full! The staff here were extremely friendly and checked up on us several times. The owner made a point to go to every table to make sure everyone in the restaurant was satisfied. It had been 6 months since our last meal at Sevmar. We were excited to see if they were consistent or had they, perhaps inevitably, slipped a bit. Great news! Still, excellent food, value and service! For lunch we shared a spanakopeta appetizern. A soft, flaky pastry-like dish filled with spinach and feta cheese. The appetizer portion was plenty for two people. Warm & creamy, it definitely hit the spot. My entree was one of the Mediterranean Bowls with salmon, feta, cucumber, tomato, olives and tzatziki. The salmon, featuring a tasty maple glaze, was flaky and perfectly grilled. The freshness of the ingredients was palpable and well enjoyed. I should mention the service. I was early and my companion was late, yet they seated me without hesitation and declined several offers by myself to wait at the bar. This, in spite of the fact that seating is limited and the place is popular. The staff's friendliness is sincere and memorable. I reccomend reservations. Consistency isn't easy to execute but they did it effortlessly. It's good to know that whether you're dining in or out that you can count on a great experience at Sevmar. read more
