I lived in the area years ago and enjoyed the food several times. Recently I was driving through and stopped for dinner, expecting what was once a good meal. Sadly I was disappointed. Parking lot is still huge and easy to access, but upon entering the restaurant I stood for an uncomfortably long time before anyone acknowledged us. Walking through to our table I was surprised at the wear and tear despite dim lighting. The server was curt and appeared to be having a bad night. I ordered the stuffed shrimp which was in years past delicious, this time overcooked. I will say on a positive note the portions are generous. My husband and I ate there for the first (and probably last) time yesterday. We ordered the medium Arabic Assortment. The service was good and the food quantity was generous. However, I must say that this was about the MOST BLAND food I have ever eaten! No spices, no seasoning, and no love anywhere to be found in this dish. Not worth your time or efforts. We got take out here. This used to be one of the best places around. Clearly things have changed. Keep in mind we ate the minute we got home while things were hot and did not reheat items. Meat on the steak tips came out almost well on a medium order. Tough, overdone. The fish was also super dry. They try to hide the bad cook in a lot of breadcrumbs, which did nothing to save it. Same with my mom's piece of fish, very dry. The lemons were a joke. You can see in the photos some are OLD, dried out, SOUR, and don't even qualify as a garnish. To top it off, I found the top of the salad dressing bottle in my side of dressing, which wasn't even full. I guess the dressing is also not homemade. We won't be returning. Heard so much about this place from a friend, we finally got to go. Due to the snow the place was empty, so we were seated right away. Our waiter was great, nice greeting, pita and butter as soon as we sat down. She loves prime rib so the choice was easy for her, I went with the lamb and shrimp. Food came out relatively quickly. Her prime rib was tasty, but tough. She tried all the sections of her huge cut, but she just couldn't enjoy it. My lamb chops were some of the best I've ever had, charred exterior, medium rare inside, just perfect! We told the waiter about the prime rib but he said if he brought another piece it would probably be the same, like he's been through this before. He asked if there was anything else she would like, but she declined. 10/10 on the lamb, 1/10 for the prime rib. We probably won't return. We were disappointed to say the least. read more

I purchased two tickets for " Dueling Pianos" on 3/14. I had seen Austin prior and loved the way he handled his show. His pairing with the female piano player was painful to listen to. Horrible voice and I was reminded of a middle school talent show. The " buffet" of a St. Patrick's Day meal was ibeyond disappointing. The food was cold and barely edible. It looked like it had been thrown together at the last minute. A tiny salad was preplated and loaded with dressing. I could not eat it. Carrots were water logged. Corned beef was decent. I ordered a martini - the bartender pored what I call a cheapo drink. A half inch left at the top with no mention of the type of vodka I might prefer. Non alchoholic drinks are in plastic cups and about ten ounces. Another rip off. Frankly, I had the feeling that this " event" along with a cold buffet was a pure money grab. Very disappointing. Even the servings for butter featured only a half teaspoon. Everything about this place is CHEAP. They line their pockets with overpriced food and sub par music. My Husband and I went there to celebrate our Anniversary. We went on a Wednesday night which was very slow. Our waitress didn't introduce herself and didn't even make us feel welcome. My husband ordered the roast beef which was cold and hard to cut because of the fat on the bottom. I ordered the rib eye...medium rare. I received a medium to well done and hard to chew so I asked for another one. I had to ask for more water and my soda. At the end of our night she just gave us our bill and didn't even offer dessert. We got takeout for eight people yesterday, two large Mediterranean assortments and sides. Grape leaves were good, stuffed peppers were undercooked, couldn't eat them, kibbee was mostly overbaked, dry. Lamb chunks in lamb and beans were so hard, also couldn't eat, they needed to be long simmered to achieve tebderness. Rice hard. These people bought the famous Bishops recipes years ago, were great in the beginning but as time went by, have failed to honor the Bishops name and reputation for excellence. So the restaurant benefits from the slightly dim lighting, the overall presentation lacks some spit and polish it has a well worn feel here like a good ole pair of sweatpants which you could wear here, the service was good, however we were not offered dinner rolls until we mentioned not needing them, the house Cab was in an unimpressive relatively small glass for 10$ our order went in right after a relatively large group so it took some extra time to come out BUT, the food did not disappoint! We started with the Shrimp Cocktail and the shrimp were a nice temperature and very meaty and firm, and a house garden salad which was good with just oil / vinegar for our Main Course we ordered the Rib Eye which was perfect, and the Bone In King Cut Prime Rib which came out warm, not hot but swimming in delicious AuJus and it was 9.5 out of 10 dinner for two was about 120$ plus tip and worth every penny. Waitress didn't know how to take orders for drinks Appetizers were good . but when it came to the main meal it was literally horrible , no stuff chicken. No prime rip. Expensive food without the flavor to match it. The hummus is the only redeeming factor here. My meal came with a salad that may as well have come from a gas station. For a main course I asked our waitress what the best plate was and went with the haddock recommendation. Overly breaded, smelly, and overcooked it didn't taste fresh despite its fresh label. The rice pilaf was watered down and overly buttered. Also lacking flavor (and my family is Armenian so we know traditional Mediterranean and middle eastern cooking). My mom ordered the large portion of cabbage and it just had vinegar poured over the top of it. Soggy and also lacking flavor. (Aside from the overdose of vinegar). Overall I rated our meal a 5/10. My mom rated it a 4/10. Service was fine, ambiance was fine. Dropped over $100 for two people and wished we'd went with a local Mediterranean sub shop instead. The Phoenician Restaurant use to be one of my favorite places to dine, but not anymore. The food: Grape leaves were tasty but felt like mush in your mouth, way over cooked. The Baba looked like something mashed together and had an unpleasant texture, gummy like. The raw kibbee was tasteless. Onto the main course, I ordered prime rib and stuffed shrimp, the prime rib looked like it just was cut from the cow, raw, and very unappetizing. I sent it back to be cooked more and a more raw piece came out. The shrimp were cold and so dry I almost chocked. AGAIN I couldn't eat the meat it looked awful. OH AND THE FRENCH FRIES, awful, they are not the fresh cut they use to have, so disappointing. The service was ok, not great. Ambiance, that building needs a face lift, though I think they tried in that department and failed. Our family just had the most amazing experience at this Haverhill restaurant. The food was amazing, and the service was on point. When the manager Basam found out it was my birthday he insisted on singing with my family recognizing the milestone. Wish I could give it 0 stars. I hosted a mercy meal here. Upon entering the function room there was a distinct odor, dark and dingy. My guest had to go around the bar to use the rest room...the floor around the bar was literally flooded and the bar tender said, "be careful" ...really? It was noon, first party of the day...they knew we were coming! Mop the darn floor! The ladies room had two stalls, one of which was deplorable! It was obvious that someone had stomach issues...splashed all over walls, floor, seat, not exaggerating! It was not from any of my guests, I know because I was the first one in there, before anyone arrived. The other stall was not very clean and there was no Toilet paper in either stall. I immediately went to look for a manager, couldn't find one so I asked the bartender to locate one, she was not very receptive...said she was busy Setting up. It took a half hour to get something done! I had to Stand there (instead of greeting my people) and tell them there was only one stall and warn them not to enter the other. My guests were appalled and inconvenienced. As for the food...Not enough servers and the few that were there worked their butts off. They kept apologizing, saying they don't have enough staff. The food was sub-par, I'm being kind. Cold rice, cold fish, etc... When I planned the menu with the staff coordinator, I ordered hummus and bread for each table, as an appetizer. They didn't have it out... when I asked about it, the server said they were not aware of it. Again, the servers had to hustle to set up 10 tables with the appetizers. They were frazzled! It was hard for them to smile, since the two of them were running in circles; but they did when they could breathe. I have to say, they were the best part of the experience. We have been coming here for years and always order the same thing. Baked lobster lobster stuffed with lobster and the prime rib. Every year there is less & less lobster in the stuffing and the lobsters get significantly smaller each time. Tonight was the worst ever! There was barely any lobster in the stuffing and it was freezing!! The prime rib was delicious but also cold so we had to send that back and it came out tasting awful from the microwave. Went Sat 5pm. The place is a bit dated but clean. I order the 32oz prime rib and my wife had the swordfish. My wife's swordfish was good she said but my prime rib was extremely tough to cut even with the steak knife. I was only able to eat half and gave up. I did order a small order of the grape leaves and they were okay but they use beef instead of lamb so not what I am use to. We traveled about an hour to try this place out as I was really hoping it would be worth it but it wasn't. I will keep up my search for a place that has a great prime rib. (but I am going to order the small from on until I know its worth it). Ps ... I ordered a soda, no price listed, but how can that go wrong. Well most places where you have a fountain drink the refill are unlimited but when I got the bill I found they charge for each refill. Decided to celebrate our 56th anniversary on June 17th. Made reservations and pre-ordered the 3 lbs baked stuffed lobster. Reservations were on time and hostess was polite and courteous, service and server was great. Only one beef with the whole thing, the online menu listed the baked stuffed lobster to be market price which was ok to do as many restaurants do due to the fluxuating prices of certain foods. However, $115 for a three pound lobster is a little bit out of wack, that's over $38 a pound ?? // I could have bought a 6 pound lobster at Brown's for that price. As far as the stuffing it was mainly a crushed nut and cracker stuffing with little seafood. Far cry from the old Bishops we were disappointed. Oh by the way, the foul language from the group from the 4 Guy's gathering in an open dinning room should have been handled by management buy ejecting the routies but no one did a thing, not good for business especially with children in the room.
