Do not use this cleaner/sew shop!!! We had a new zipper put into a dress and the zipper looked worse than the original one. When we asked the owner how he could possibly believe this is. acceptable he said "Well we can't control how the zippers come in. ". It looks like it was taken from old camping equipment. I dropped off my daughter's jeans here because it is closer to our house. When they told me to hem a Jean pants it would cost $22.50. It is over the price I wanted to pay but I had to get it done because school starts soon. I turned in 5 pants. One of the pants I wanted it rush, which it is $10 for a rush job. One pants needs to be tailored by the waisted and that is $35. So one pants is totaled $55 for hem and tailored. When I picked up the rush job pants I paid $32. They did a good job in hemming the pants. It looks like we bought it for my daughter's size. The total of the 5 pants cost me $172. The lady and the man also wanted me to pay in cash. This is so suspicious on why they would only accept cash. One thing comes to mind is they are stealing from the owner, or not recording all sales from IRS, or just laundering money. Lol. Overall I am satisfied with the job. I do not recommend it because of the price is wayyyy to high. Most likely I need to find another Taylor shop to hem all our pants or learn to do n it myself. I had a very good experience with Sew Chic. I needed pants hemmed at the waist for my birthday outfit on Friday. I called Tuesday, someone answered immediately. I told them I had a short amount of time to stop by during my lunch break, and was assured they could help me right away. I showed up and was in and out in less then 5 mins. I was helped by a very attentive gentleman. Told him I needed it by Friday. He said I could pay when I picked it up. It was ready the next day. Good price and perfect fit! This business has no pre-set prices. They look at the brand of clothing, profile customers based on demographics, and then make a price. I was recently charged $49.80 (!) for shortening a pair of pants! When I told the front desk lady that the price doubled since last time, she said it's because my pants are wide leg. Well, my last pair of pants were also wide leg. I agree with other customer reviews, this shop is extremely overpriced. Customer also has to pay upfront without giving the opportunity to examine the job! Not sure where they got this business model but sure does not seem American. There are more affordable alteration shops not far with clarity on pricing (e.g., Star Cleaners on Huebner Rd.). I will not return to this shop! read more

My very detail oriented husband has repeatedly brought his suits in for alterations. He lost a lot of weight and they provided great advice on which ones could be altered well (he dropped numerous sizes). None of our jobs were a rush and we felt the turn around was reasonable. The quality of the repairs was quite good (suits are hard and we've seen bad alterations elsewhere before). My mother who used to be a seamstress says the quality was good, too. Our only issue is the price - definitely high but inexpensive, high quality tailors are rare. Sew Chic is in high demand so it makes sense they're pricey and very busy (steady stream of customers). read more

The lady who did the alterations on my prom dress was very rude and had much to say on my body type! None of said comments were positive, they consisted of her telling me I should eat salad until the day of my prom to slim myself down. I payed around $400 for cutting down on some length and shortening the waistline. Overall the place is very overpriced and has extremely poor customer service! read more

Fairly expensive for a simple job. Had a shirt that was torn that needed some sewing that my wife could have done but did not want to hassle with. Charged $15 for the repair. Repair was not really that good either. Very prominent stitching that could have been hidden much better. Had to wait a week to get the shirt as well. They did give a 10% military discount which was appreciated but the repair was still very expensive for the work and quality done. read more

I have used this location as well as the Broadway location for alterations before, but recently the quality and customer service has been poor. I brought curtains in to get shortened. It was more expensive than I thought it should be. Even though the curtains had two layers, I thought $70 for a simple straight hem across 50 inches was a bit steep. But they've done good work in the past so I agreed. We agreed on a date for me to come pick up the curtains, but when I showed up on that date they weren't ready. The woman who was running the shop that day didn't even seem apologetic, she just said "oh they aren't here." I confirmed that I was there on the date we agreed upon, and she said that she had lost a seamstress and so she was behind. I told her it would've been polite to call and tell me they weren't gonna be ready on the day we had agreed, because I drove all the way out there just to pick up the curtains. Two days later I came to pick them up when they were ready. I asked her for the extra fabric, and she said that because I didn't ask for the fabric to be returned upfront, they didn't save it. That sounds ridiculous to me. I've done alterations at multiple places before, and even the last time that I had some alterations done at this store where I had them attach a ribbon to a dress, they gave me the leftover ribbon back. My mom is also an avid quilter and takes her quilts to different fabric shops to get quilt stitched, and she says that they always give the fabric back. Given that the remaining fabric should've been 5" x 50", it's a good amount of fabric that I could've done something with. It's not like we're talking a couple inches of scrap fabric from a pair of pants or a dress that was hemmed. The quality was also questionable. All of the rest of the seams on the curtains were done with white thread, but they did the hem with pink thread. There was also a lot of stray thread hanging off the edge of the hem that I had to cut down. This curtain panel was supposed to be hemmed to an exact length to match the second panel that was going to be hung on the same rod, but the seamstress left the length about an inch too long, so now the two panels are uneven. Overall, that's not that big of a deal, except it if I'm going to pay that much for a simple hem, I would expect it to be exceptional quality. read more

Fairly expensive and slow for what you get. I was charged $26 to have a button down sewn shut over the chest to prevent gaping. It took 2 weeks. When I went to pick up it was sewn incorrectly but they were able to fix it in 20 minutes. I was also asked to pay when I dropped off rather than when I picked up, which hasn't been the case at any of the other tailors I've ever been to. I've always paid when I pick up and alterations were satisfactory. Don't think I'll return as I can go to other places that do the same for about $15 with a 48hr turn around time. read more

Great experience at Sew Chic. I've been here a few times, mostly for bridesmaid dress alterations. Once, I needed a very quick turnaround on a bridesmaid dress, and they were able to accommodate, getting it done in 2 days! Very appreciative! I've also had another bridesmaid dress done here, and was altered very carefully. The dress needed alterations on top and bottom, and they suggested to alter the top first since it would raise the bottom a bit, and then I would come in again for the length. I felt this was a sign of their experience, and I appreciated that! I only gave 4 stars because it was slightly pricier to alter the dresses than I expected, but I felt it was worth the quality of the job, which is why I keep coming back. I also had a medical white coat tailored to fit closer to my body, which came out REALLY great- that unisex coat can make me look like a sloppy box and now it looks form fitting and shapely, while still professional! read more

The location isn't convenient to get to, as its located on the access road with one entrance. In addition it was extremely pricey. I work in the Alamo Heights area and will go there for my alterations in the future. It's pretty sad that Alamo Heights is much cheaper for quality work. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR BUSINESS! I had two pair of pants hemmed and altered here and the prices were really high. I thought to myself "well ok, I'm sure the service and quality will be really good then." Could not have been more wrong. Within the first two times I had one pair of pants dry cleaned both pant legs came unhemmed. Mind you, this is only about 3 months later... I then contacted them through the support email account they have online and was told to come back and that they would be happy to repair them. So I drive 10 miles out to their location only to be told "that will be 15 dollars and charged as another alteration". They literally tried to charge me to repair THEIR OWN STORE'S LOW QUALITY WORK!! Had to come to San Antonio before I could finish my husband's suit alterations which was a big problem. Was going to try to finish hand sewing in the hotel room but I hated to do that so I found this place right down the street from our hotel. Called them up, asked if they could hem the pants and shorten the jacket sleeves by 4pm. They said they could and they did! They also did some button fixing and pressed the whole thing. The suit looked awesome and I am eternally grateful for the fast, expert service. If these guys were closer to the DFW area I would be a massive return customer. read more
