What a cool place a great meal! The place is very nicely done. A bit industrial mixed with classic, downtown vibe. The lady had the halibut salad, which was very good. The dressing had a good taste to it...a little tang and a little sweet, but nothing over powering. I have the rockfish and chips, which was terrific, and washed it down with a good local amber brew. This is a perfect establishment for any of your eating needs. It is complex and high-end yet simple and laid back all at the same time. The menu is offers creative dishes and perfected beers at a reasonable price (remember, this is Seward) My vegetarian buddy ordered the Kale Cesar with fried chickpeas and parmesan shavings. The salad was amazing yet simple. The Cesar dressing played well with the fresh kale offering the creaminess of a Cesar salad but maintaining a crispness that is one of a kind. The crunchy bits of chickpea and strength of the parmesan added zings to each bite. Not your average Cesar salad but much better! I moved on to my appetizer pretzel which was buttery, soft, and crunchy. A perfectly crafted pretzel with gooey cheese and strong mustard for those of us with bi-polar taste buds that can't decide which flavor we like best. Daddy-O tried the panko crusted rockfish. Being new to rockfish, we were blown away by the mild, flakiness of the rockfish while the crust added a savory flavor which worked to highlight the taste of the rockfish. We added the king corn soup which was reminiscent of the southwest. Creamy and savory with bits of corn and buttery lobster. It was a savory yet sweet accompaniment. Finally, the beer steals the show! Being from Michigan, we love our craft beer and like to pretend we are experts. Daddy-O probably is due to age and enthusiasm ;) He might have suggested that the Pin Bone IPA was the best IPA he's had (but you didn't hear it from me). The Crusty Whale Pale Ale was equally raved about due to it's complex, hoppy yet light flavors. I can't understand why this place is not more raved about! I didn't have food while at Seward Brewing, so this review is only for beer, but sadly, this is some of the worst microbrew beer I've had. We did a flight of 5 tasters - all their main beers - and we ended up not finishing a single one. Watery beer with underwhelming flavor & overly bitter hops. Living in Denver, I get exposed to great beer & great breweries, but I definitely wouldn't consider myself a beer snob - this just wasn't good beer. I will say the interior of this place is amazing, a fun hang out spot & the food looked good, but as far as breweries go, this place has a lot to work on. read more

Hiking down a mountain and then partaking in a 3 hour sea kayak tour makes for some hungry customers and SBC didn't disappoint. Located in a former VFW hall, the restaurant is inviting and comfortable and their beer and food didn't disappoint. We started off with both the pretzel as well as the AK Poke appetizer. The poke really stole the show. Fresh salmon, shoyu, and sesame oil-three simple ingredients, one amazing appetizer. My girlfriend went with the Loaded Dog- a beer braised reindeer hot dog served with slaw, house cheese sauce, bacon on a pretzel bun. A solid sandwich. Being in Alaska and a lover of all things salmon, I opted with the Man Sandwich-a perfectly prepared salmon sandwich topped with slaw and celery root butter. Be sure to check out desserts, especially the chocolate salty balls. Orbs of dark chocolate, sea salt, olive oil, and nutella dust. So the food rates three stars but the beer, not so much. Don't go here looking for a great local beer with some food. There were three of their beers but most were from Anchorage and the Kenai. There taps were limited to three as one (IIPA) was gone. I have visited this place three times over 3 years. Each time they have been out of one beer or another. There Taps are generally more guest beers then their own, and tho the IPA is always popular they seem to sell out and go dry quite often. Probably not my fav place in town. Having said all that, the people working are friendly enough and the food is 3 stars good. read more

Along with the high quality beer, what impresses me about SBC is the staff. Kudos to Jillian who brought to our table good food, knowledge about the menu and a gentle sense of humor. I had the flight of four samples of their beer. The stout was my favorite but opted to have the red with my hamburger. The burger was ordered by all four in my party. Comments ranged from "a little dry" to "excellent". Mine was good as I like some char on my meat. And the fries were excellent. No fries left behind. read more

This was a welcome change after eating one too many turkey sandwiches for lunch in the RV. The nonstop physical activity of the week had us ravenous and this hit the spot. We literally inhaled the hangover homies- delish potatoes covered in cheese, Gorgonzola crumbles, bacon and chives. The family all loved their burgers and my rockfish tacos with fried kale and tomatillo were tasty. Hubs stuck with his usual IPA, which he enjoyed. My wife and I are in Alaska for vacation and spending a night in Seward. We went to the Seward Brewing Company for dinner and it was pleasant. The design of the restaurant is a mix of industrial decor with unfinished wood and Alaskan art. The brewing equipment, mash tuns and conical fermenters, is visible to guests through a wall of glass. As far the food goes, the menu has many creative items. We started with the "loaded homies," which are thick fries smothered in bacon, tomato, chives, cheese sauce, sri-rancha, and gorgonzola. They were heart stopping and delightful. We also had two bowls of the beer cheese soup, which was more on the side of cheese on the spectrum than the beer side; but very tasty. For entrees my wife ordered the burger which had wagyu beef and beechers cheese on a pretzel bun. I had the fish and fries. I think we were full from the soup and fries, so we weren't able to finish our entrees. Now lets talk about the beer. I only tried the beer made by Seward. Over all it was decent quality. Very malty, clear, and nicely carbonated to volumes appropriate to the styles. Nevertheless, I felt both beers that I tried were under attenuated so that residual sweetness was present. Perhaps pitching with more yeast or mashing at a lower temperature would help. The two beers I had were the Fish Town Brown and the Crusty Whale Pale Ale (IPA). The menu didn't specify if the IPA was an American IPA or an English IPA. It lacked the hop aroma and bitterness required for the style of an American IPA. It might be close to an English IPA (think Bass Ale), but I think it needs more IBUs period. I think the Fish Town Brown was very close to style, although could have used more chocolate. The hops were not too strong and I loved the malty goodness. All in all, this is a fun little brew pub that I highly recommend to those traveling through Seward. read more

We popped into the Seward Brewing Company on a recent trip to Alaska for a taste of Seward's finest ales and were not disappointed. The bartender was knowledgeable and friendly (as are most of the people of Alaska) and the beer was top notch. As a couple of hardcore beer snobs, we were delighted by the creaminess of the stout and the red was perhaps the best beer I've ever tasted. The food was also something to write home about with the Loaded Chips still showing up in my dreams every other night or so. Guys, Seward is full of wonderful things to see and eat and do. We stopped in for a beer and a snack before getting on the train. Started with a flight. After the flight we had 1 beer and 1 root beer between two of us. The beers were ok. Also ordered the Ahi Poke Tacos. These were creative and pretty good, but definitely a small plate! The bartender wasn't sure they could make it without cilantro - which seemed like an easy thing to take off (and was once she checked with the kitchen). The only people the bartender was talking to were locals. We (and the guy sitting next to us) were virtually ignored until we made eye contact or called her over. There seemed to be some construction/brewing going on upstairs. Patrons in the know were allowed to go upstairs, but it was blocked off by one chair when we got there and two chairs when we left. As other viewers have said, a decent place to go in and have a beer. They have a few different seating areas which is nice. Also a great place to sit and talk to people that live in Seward (if they'll talk to you ;-)). read more

Wings were the best we've ever had. Spicy, sweet, garlicky, and flavorful. Not fried wings with sauce, actual flavor throughout. I didn't eat the burger, but my fiancé said it was actual meat. Came here and was told to choose between pizza upstairs or pub menu downstairs. That was a little bit off putting as it would be nice to have the two restaurants for one brewery be combined. Otherwise, we got the pretzel, burger and hot chicken sand which and I will say the food was excellent. Service was quick and friendly. Little weird for a brewery to only have 4 beers on tap, and be out of one of them. No fun or experimental brews either, very basic Pilsner, stout or lager. They did have good choice of local guest taps though. read more

In Seward choices are limited, for me to rate anyplace with "brew" in the title less than 5 is hard, I would suggest you stop by for a beer as they do brew their own, beer is ok, food is strictly poor brewpub quality, Sat at bar, bartender seemed very annoyed I was there, one of three. This tells it all, the mariners pre- game was on only TV in the place, the bar tender turned the channel to "Thelma & Louise" you can't make that up, oh well with only local brew in Seward, you can do whatever, expect to see this place on the closed list soon 5/2016 Now two years later, I still love beer so am willing to keep trying, was a bad idea, the service still is poor, the beer not worth the effort, from the time I walked in and asked to sit at the bar, only to be told by the hostess the bar was full, since I could see it I went in anyway and sat down, the bar tender generally ignored me, I must admit I am older and not great looking and everyone else at the bar was under 30, so I guess I don't blame them, but I lowered my score to TWO stars because the beer was not very good, sad day for me. read more

We ate here three times during out stay in Seward. Unlike some of the other reviews, we came for the beer and stayed for the food! That's by no means a slight on the beer, either. Every dish we tried was great, including the burger, the cheese zombie, the fish and chips, and the pretzel appetizer. One night we got to talking to the bartender, and it turns out she was one of the owners - she and her husband took the place over in May. She was a great bartender, and it looks like she and her husband are really looking to improve the place. For us, it was one of the highlights of our stay in Seward. read more

I live I'm Alaska so I'm use to overpriced food in tourist areas. $14 for their crab cakes was nonsense. 3 tater tot sized cakes. Our experience here was completely top-notch. We were in a big group and they accomodated us without any problems, even though we forgot to make a reservation. Then, when half of our party didn't show up, the waitstaff did not seem at all annoyed with us. The beer was delicious, particularly the red. The food was excellent. I had the "cheese zombie" on the waitress's recommendation and it was great. The wings also got good reviews from our table. Yes, the prices were high, but that's fairly typical for Alaska. At least the food is wonderful, unlike plenty of places where you'll pay the same, or higher, prices for less good food and worse service. read more

The staff were very friendly. We had our three kids with us and they were great with them. The look and feel of the place is amazing. Feels like a cozy, modern log cabin. Speaking of not that busy one time going here they were not that busy and we were going to be eating as a party of three and the first person showed up and they would not seat him until the whole group was there and the other two of us were only a few minutes behind. Seriously? Also be out of here before closing time they make sure to let you know that they are getting ready to close well before closing time. Pizza upstairs taste wise is excellent you order at a counter and seat yourself. ok great. What's not great is when it's busy and two of the tables are taken up by stuff that the staff has left haphazardly laying on two tables. Was told we could move it ok I guess I'm paying to buss my own table Once again got to closing time they shut everything down for making pizzas that's fine but while we're finishing eating and it's normal business hours the pizza kitchen staff puts there music on so loud you fell like your at a live music concert which must be so you'll leave but pretty rude especially when your paying as much as you are for a pizza and bussing your own table and getting your own drinks. We were excited to try the place out. The place seemed pretty nice when we walked in and were seated at the bar. After reading the beer list I decided to skip the IPA, the Stout, and the beer that was crafted in partnership with a local home brewer. I ordered a Pilsner and was served the cloudiest yellow pils I've ever seen. One sip was all it got. Fruity, banana esters, and totally out of style. I'm sure it was probably brewed and fermented for 2 weeks and then never allowed to condition. The other beers might have been better but I didn't want to risk tasting them. I just had beer and the wantonachos. The hostess was short and not very friendly. The bar was open seating but the tables had a 20 minute wait. I was surprised as i walked to the bar at how many open tables there were considering the wait. The nachos were really good, the beer was good, and the bartender was nice. I love checking out local breweries when I travel. When in Seward for the day I had to stop in Seward Brewing for a brew and lunch. My first impression was that this was more restaurant and less brewery. The metal art in the large dining room area was interesting and even the bar tap handles were hand crafted. There is a second level but it was not open when we were there. We took a seat at the bar and looked over the menu and asked a few questions about the beers and food choices. Our bartender/server seemed to be dealing with some drama and lacked attentiveness so it was difficult to get much of a response. Possibly she was just overworked, having to serve the few filled tables in the room in addition to tending the bar. Unfortunately we could not find beers that were brewed by Seward Brewing that we liked. Most were IPAs which are not my thing, and the few that were not, like a blonde and a red, were still too bitter for my taste. I did find a lager brewed by another local brewery that was okay, so at least they had a few choices. The menu boasts many local "touristy" choices like reindeer hot dogs, crab toast, and halibut fish tacos. We did get a recommendation for an appetizer to share, the won ton nachos. This crispy light fried won tons made perfect nachos. They were topped with lemongrass shredded beef, some veges, and a creme sauce. Could have been warmer, but they were delicious. If in Seward stop in for an interesting lunch here but for quick bar service, this may not be the best place in town. read more

Delicious food and great beer! A fun, casual atmosphere with friendly staff

I'm giving it 4 stars for the beer (specifically the Pinbone IPA) wait staff, and hangover fries. Six of us ate here on a rainy Seward day. I have eaten here probably 5-6 other times and haven't left impressed about their main dishes. Myself and another person got the "Mac's Meat" sandwich, looked great. The bread appeared to be a homemade bun and looked very appetizing, unfortunately upon biting into it the bun crumbled and not in a good way. Halfway through I finally scrapped the bun and just ate the meat. The meat wasn't anything spectacular and a few of the bites were straight gristle. Fish and chips were suspect at best. When another waitress came to box them up she mistook them for chicken tenders. Summary-beer very good, appetizers good, wait staff good read more

The food and beer here were both awesome. While the food was a bit expensive, it is everywhere in Seward so I tried not to hold that against them.. The reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because it was a little hard to find and when I got in there the gentleman server I had could not answer my beer questions about its bitterness and he was also having a hard time pairing the Red with food... I had a burger there and it pretty much blew my mind. Overall the service was nice. There was an older lady in there that looked to be a manager or owner and I couldn't help but feel that because I am in my 30's and was wearing a t-shirt and jeans and alone that she was not interested in asking me how things were.
