This place has the feel of a rather sanitary unauthentic "chain" restaurant trying to fit in with a small alaskan tourist town that prides itself on authenticity. One of the biggest restaurants in town with so-so beer and so-so food. But it's clean and certainly not anything like some of the more salty drinking establishments on 4th Street. Basically a McDonalds of microbreweries where tourists will feel safe - and some will even believe it's authentic Alaskan. read more

Hubs and I took our 18YO to Seward for a next day charter and needed some grub after the 2 1/2 hour drive. Hubs drove so he really wanted a beer after we settled into our hotel room. SBC was just a block away from our hotel (we have always stayed here; for years) so we walked over. Glad we did! Masks on upon entry, no problem. We were seated right away, our server was on it! She had our drink orders brought to us quick and it was just the right amount of time. Food was brought out timely also. Hubs and daughter had fish and chips, two thumbs up from both of them. I wasn't as hungry so I just had the Caesar salad with added grilled chicken. It was pretty good, the chicken had a little kick. My husband had the El Jefeweizen, it was really yummy! I just had the Sauvignon Blanc they had, I have know idea what it was, don't care. I was a bit dismayed at the customers pawing through the merchandise when it was clearly signed to get help from an employee. People are clueless. Visited on the Fourth of July after the Mt Marathon race, so understandably the place was packed. After a bit of wait, our group was seated and received decent service considering the crowd. The beer menu isn't extensive but the ones we tried were good. The food on offer was also above average for a busy establishment and consisted of the expected burgers, etc. Seward Brewing is probably worth a visit if you're in town on a less busy day. read more

Let's start with the atmosphere. Loved the look of the restaurant area. Very trendy industrial look to it. The have a huge metal halibut hanging up. Their beer tappers are some of the most unique that I have ever seen. Great vibe. We decided to sit up at the bar, and the bartender was a little slow initially getting to us, but was very efficient after that. Not too engaging, but we got our drinks and food served in a timely manner so cannot complain there. They were fairly busy for lunchtime on the day we dined. The beer is really good. Great flavors, and loved the creative names. The pinbone IPA was awesome. We started with a flight of 4 to taste what they had to offer. Besides their own brews, they offer selections from other Alaskan breweries. The food was pretty good. It is definitely pub fare, but they work to put a unique spin on it. So set your foodie expectations to that margin. As we are in Seward the pricing is a bit higher so the value is a little less then what it might be in other areas. Portion sizes were decent for the price. We started with the deviled eggs at the time (last summer--end of August--little late getting to this review sorry) they had a different preparation every day. The appetizer came with 6 egg halves, and our preparation had crab, chives, and the egg yolks were whipped with wasabi. It was a very different preparation of your traditional deviled egg, and it was enjoyable. For entrees I ordered the reindeer dog, and my husband ordered the chowdah. The reindeer dog had good flavor, and was prepared well. The chips that it came with were boring, and lacked flavor so maybe reconsider the side dish to something a bit different. The chowdah had nice flavor. The broth was a little thinner then one would expect, but it still tasted decent. The only problem I would say was there were not a ton of fish chunks in it, which was slightly disappointing especially for the price. But, overall it was well prepared just maybe add some more seafood. I was conflicted as to what "star rating" to give this location. I would say a solid 3.5 stars. I bumped it to 4 because I really enjoyed the beer experience. I would come back to try some other menu items like the hangover homies, cheesus, and chocolate salty balls. The atmosphere was good, and they have some great brews! Definitely stop here for some apps at least, and to support the local craft beer industry! read more

This place is hopping! The atmosphere is nice -- bright and modern, but with the warmth of a lot of wood, and decor such as snowboards from different time periods. The brews are not super exotic or unique -- mostly standard types -- but they are quite decent. And the food is excellent. We had a duck pizza (special of the day) with caramelized onions, spinach, and brie... it was delicious, but could have used a bit more duck meat on it. I am giving this a 2 stars because of one reason...any side condiment you get is an extra charge, and not a reasonable surcharge. I wanted pickles to put on my burger and they gave me 3 thick cut slices, that didn't even taste pickled...they tasted kinda like dishsoap and they charged $2...$2 for pickles ?!!??!? A beer is $6 and appetizer is $9 for perspective....And after that we noticed that this was how it was for anything. An extra side of ranch; an outrageous surcharge. I understand surcharging for condiments. Maybe .25 but $2 for 3 pickle slices, and not being told of the extra charge is outrageous. Outside of that, the loaded fries are amazing and the fish tacos are delicious, the burger is okay. The taste of the cheese on the burger can be a little much. read more

Dropped in for dinner and beers during a port of call last week. I had the "It's not a filet of fish" sandwich and wonton nachos. Nachos were decent and liked by all but the sandwich was outstanding. I think if they changed the name they would sell way more. It's actually a black cod roll similar to a lobster or crab roll. I'm a picky fish eater and loved it. We tried a host of beers which were all excellent as well. I recommend stopping here if you're in Seward and looking for a nice but casual place to eat and get a beer. read more

The host at the front counter was a crusty grumpzilla (he was the manager) was the only negative of this place. The waitress was awesome. The food was super interesting. Who can pass up on Wontonachos? What? Asian-Latino fusion in Seward was a rare find. The halibut yellow curry was perfect. In fact as soon as I arrived back in "the lower 48" my first meal I made was the halibut curry. My kids loved it!! The broken tooth root beer was also really good. This place is the best place we tried on the peninsula. I'm giving it a 5 to help boost it above the 3 1/2 stars it does not deserve. read more

The food was really good, including an odd but wonderful chocolate and potato chip dessert, but as others have mentioned, the service can be slow. It's a small town and we were there near the end of the season, but they basically seemed way overwhelmed to have all their tables full. I liked that they carry a selection of other brewery's beers on top of their own supply and they had some of the most interesting and eclectic selections we saw across the state. The options in Seward aren't particularly big and varied and the food and beer were very good and reasonably priced - I'd just recommend that you go in here knowing it's not going to be a quick meal. First time to this brewery in a beautiful part of the. They only had three of their own on tap, but several guest taps were available. The Best Imperial Blonde, (made with oysters and raspberries) is a lovely Blonde with aromas of Raspberry and a slight hop bitterness. The Marathon Summer Ale, more like a Session, but refreshing to drink on a hot summers day. We had the Cod fish and chips. There is a big seating area downstairs. We didn't check out the pizza kitchen upstairs though. Sat at the bar, where we usually do because you get more local info from the bar tender if they're chatty and have the time to share. Right across from the the Sea Life Center and next to a Seafood restaurant with plenty of free street parking. Perfect for the end or middle of your day in this pretty little town. read more

A beautiful space with delicious food. My husband, son, and I, arrived without a reservation on a Friday night at 6:30. They were able to seat us in 25 minutes - not bad! The service was good, the food was a nice departure from the standard fried seafood in the area, and the ambience was great. Classic rock background music. Fun, well-designed merchandise. in fact, whoever does their design work, both the merchandise and the interiors, really did a great job. The atmosphere here is amazing. All sorts of rustic touches everywhere. We sat at the bar and my husband had a sampler and a beer. He enjoyed getting to try a few things but did not feel anything was out of this world. We decided to order a pretzel with my husbands full beer to help tide us over. That damn pretzel took forever to come out, he had honestly finished his beer by the time it came out. Now that being said it was pretty good and the sauces that came with it were pretty tasty. Walked in as a party of 2 a little after 8 on a Thursday night and were turned away because they are "closing soon". The website says they close at 9 pm. Seems bizarre for a tourist town in the summer. Important to know that you basically can't eat dinner past 8 pm in Seward. read more

We ate and drank here 4 out of our 5 nights in Seward. Cool atmosphere with great views upstairs. The food and beer was well worth going back for every night. The service was great! Overall it was great. We sat at the bar and shared the burger and the fish and chips. Food came out quickly and the bartender was very attentive even though she was busy. The burger patty was hearty and the aioli sauce it came with was yummy. The fish melted in your mouth. Slaw that came with the fish & chips wasn't special but everything else was great. Their salads were excellent, and the homemade potato chips were very good (ask for some of the beer cheese dip, puts them over the top!) We were recommended to come here by the lady that rented us some bear spray. We looked at the menu and decided to give it a go. My husband and I got two beers each, halibut curry, and the reindeer hot dog with chips. We then ordered some chocolate salty balls with bacon to go. More on that later. Atmosphere: cool brewery like atmosphere (of course) lots of cool taps hanging up on the walls and a giant metal halibut which was pretty cool. The place seemed clean and the staff was friendly. Halibut curry: I decided on the halibut curry. I'm pretty sure it was the most expensive thing on the menu ($29) bucks but I would say it's almost worth it! This was a yellow curry with vegetables. The halibut was in filet form and not chunked like I was expecting. It was perfectly cooked and the sauce was nicely spiced (not spicy hot, spicy as in SPICE :)). I always get worried about ordering curry from an American style restaurant but this did a pretty good job. Reindeer hotdog on pretzel bun: my husband got this. The dog was stout, 6/10 on the juicy scale, and extremely difficult to eat. The slaw it was topped with was more on the sour side and it had chunks of pork belly thick chunk bacon on it. The bun was tough enough to hold the dog and not get soggy. 7/10 on his hot dog scale. He said he wishes it was just a bit easier to eat ...somehow... The beer: we got the great white and both of their reds they had. All were great. Chocolate salty balls: we had to get this since the name was funny. We also opted to get the additional bacon chunks on top. This is an 11 dollar desert. You get two small chocolate balls. Highway robbery perhaps?? Check the pictures. Overall very expensive. Did have to donate some plasma and give up on some of my life dreams to dine here but it was good! Probably best place we've had in Seward. read more

The girl bar tender denied giving them to me because it was "not a thing they do". This place has BIG appeal for a small town. We walked up and down the main drag of Seward trying to decide where to eat. There were SO many options for such a small central area -- that's what a cruise destination will getcha I suppose. This seemed the most lively, and we were in the mood for pub food more than the other more formal offerings available. We made the right choice! The interior of the resturaunt is gorgeous, large and airy, with tons of seating. It didn't feel packed even though it definitely was. Not too loud either -- something that can easily ruin the vibe in a large open format pub. The food was delicious. The chicken fried rockfish was incredible. I have a relatively small appetite - but i finished every bite of the fish & fries. So good. The drinks were excellent and the service attentive without being disruptive. We stayed a long time talking and relaxing after our long day and never felt rushed along. We tried two desserts - the Chocolate salty balls and the ice cream sandwhich. Gormet food at pub prices!! Sure, Alasaka-pub prices, but still. They were both incredible. My mother, a huge sea salt chocolate fan - almost ordered more Choclate salty balls. They were ridiculously good. Had dinner with my family. The hostess was fantastic, very personable, and even managed to get someone to fix the front door while juggling all her other duties. Impressive! We ordered the burger, the salmon sandwich/burger and the flare steak burger. Everyone loved their food! We were impressed especially after being told that the brewery served typical bar food. The burger dish's house made aioli sauce for the fries was delicious. The salmon burger had pickled cabbage and cucumber that complimented the salmon while balancing the veggie butter. They had a wide variety of beer and wine. Great selection any beer lover would appreciate. We had desert called the "salty balls." No joke! It reminded me of the SNL Skit "Schweddy Balls" with Alec Baldwin as Pete . It looked like "chocolate lab balls." The presentation could be improved. When I had gone, they had only been open a week, so I had known they may be working out some small kinks still - food, service, timing, etc. However, it went fairly well. It's a teensy bit pricey, but then again, so is everything in Seward. First off, they are a brewery and man, that beer is good. Especially their red ale. It's like an amber, but lighter. Very good taste. In fact, if I was at a bar in Alaska, I'd hope it was on one of the taplines. I had a taste of their white, and it was very citrusy, but still good. I like that they do offer a sampler of their brews. And second, the food. The table tried the nachos, which the menu said had goat cheese; however, we couldn't find the goat cheese, maybe it was cooked in the sauce? It was still tasty. Their bacon-cheese sauce was addicting and it may be one of the few places I know that serves fresh jalapenos on nachos. It is a plus that it wasn't a heaping pile of food, just enough to curb the appetite for five people until the entrees arrive. I ended up with the beer-battered cod. Nice thick crispy crust on the outside and moist on the inside. Tartar sauce was very good. Fries were ehh. But considering they had just opened, not bad. I'm sure they're still fixing things up. The waitress was extremely nice and doing a very good job adapting to everything. If I had to choose anywhere in Seward I would go for a bite to eat, it was good enough that I would probably come back to Seward Brewing Company. The food was headed in the right direction; it's nothing too crazy and it doesn't try to be. But the beer is what will most likely sell me completely to come back there. read more

I was hesitant to come here due to the lower rating - but we love to check out breweries and ended up coming here twice! We were here in mid-June and sat at the bar both nights - beer selection was great and the bartender gave solid recommendations. We never ate a full meal here, but we did have the pretzel (good bar food), Salted Watermelon Salad (yum!), & the Chocolate Salty Balls (would never have expected such a great dessert to come from a brewery). It's taken me a while to write this review, but looking at some photos of the meal we had reminded of the wonderful meal we had. The menu was pretty new when we were there, but the staff was very knowledgeable about their offering. We had the "that burger" and "fish & fries." Both were wonderful. The burger was juicy and cooked to order, and that pretzel bun really made the difference for juicy burger that would usually end up with a soggy bun. The fish were different with a pano crust vs the usual beer batter type crust. The flavors were really goo, and it was nice to have the crunch. Not sure when I will be in Seward again, but when that day comes, I will be back for more. Oh, and the beers were great! read more

We came in just to drink beer, though it is a sit-in type of restaurant/brewery. First I want to say that the waitress was so friendly, she was probably one of the nicest server/worker we've encountered in Alaska, and this is our second day here. I don't want to say all the workers are unfriendly and mean, but... that has been our experience so far. Not sure if being Asian has anything to do with this. Anyways! Back to the beer. They had house taps and guest taps and we ordered just from the house taps. I had the mermaid lager which was their rotater beer, and we also got the rockfish red and the el jefenweizen. The jefe and rockfish tastes similar, though the jefe tasted more stout-y, strangely. All were decent and the prices weren't outrageous. All the beers are $6 a pint!
