just received my wedding gown last week and was so lucky to get a apt with sewing just 4 u. i was a little nervous for my first apt because i was sure what to expect and i was a little insecure about my stomach and how i would fill out in the chest. Matt did my alternation for wedding dress. He was very detail oriented and particular. Because of the way my dress was made in order to hem it, he had to removed the appliqués by hand and then rearrange and resew them on! The total for alterations came out to more than I hoped, but considering how much he did it was a fair price! I'd definitely recommend him to other brides. read more

I am extremely petite (4'9") and naturally I have a really hard time finding long dresses that fit. I am proud to say that after having a few dresses hemmed here, I will never hesitate to buy the dresses I love because of them being too long. $60 to shorten sleeves? This is on an unlined jacket. This is after missing 3 deadlines for pickup. These people have courage, if nothing else. The sleeves aren't the same length, but I'm not taking it back because I don't want to wait another 2 months to get my jacket. Find another tailor. Anyone will be better than this place. read more

I used Sewing Just 4 U to tailor my wedding gown about 6 months ago. I worked with Matt, who was very professional and tailored the dress to fit my body perfectly. It ended up looking wonderful on my big day. The only issue I had was that I had to go in about four times for various fittings, which was a bit of a challenge since I live about an hour away from Santa Rosa (we have limited options here in Ukiah). It did not end up being ready until the day before the wedding, and I was unable to go in and try it on one last time because I was so busy, so my mom picked it up. That was a bit nerve-wracking. However, in all fairness, I did give them the dress two months before the wedding, and I know many bridal stores require much more time than that. Concerning the cost, it was the same as what my sister and good friend paid at their professional bridal stores. So the price was a bit high, but the job was very professional and I was expecting to pay that much anyways. read more

Interesting situation. Convenient location, they do good work, but they are horrible at meeting their commitments relating to when something will be ready. Their solution seems to be to ask you to call when your alternations are promised for. When you do, they typically are not ready, they ask you when you need them and then get you your stuff the second time around. When you pick it up, they do not mention missing your promised for date. If you engage them in a conversation about this being a reoccurring occurrence, they say it can't be helped. If you don't mind the unreliable service, the quality is good. read more

I read the reviews on yelp and decided this is probably a good place to take a simple item. I bought a T-shirt with my book club logo on it, and it was way too long. The T-shirt and the printing of the logo cost me $19.00. I measured it, cut it and had it ready for a simple sewing machine stitch, simply because I thought it would look better stitched with a sewing machine as opposed to me hemming it by hand. He was going to charge me $20.00 for this job. I was shocked, but felt helpless and left it with him. Five minutes later it occurred to me that I was a fool to pay this much and I returned and took the T-shirt back. They may do good work, but I question their ethics, and will NEVER take anything there again, no matter what everyone else says. It's worth looking around for someone else. It makes me sad that a local business would want to rip off a local customer. read more

My wife is 5' tall and about 110 pounds, so she ends up having a lot of things altered. I have several suits and a tuxedo that have needed EXTENSIVE alterations. Sleeve length, taking in and letting out waists, lowering collars etc. I'm not talking about shortening a pair of Levi's folks. They do fantastic, detailed work. Complaining about the price is like a complaining that your Lexus cost more than your friend's Chevy. This is where you take your finest, "mission critical" garments. Expensive! Charged $20 to shorten pair of jeans! He guarantees his work and I think he is probably a great choice for bigger jobs. That being said he gave no warning at all regarding his prices. I could have gone to a seamstress competitor for $6. So again, he's probably talented but you are paying a lot for his time. read more

Went here 2 weeks in advance of prom to have 2 dresses hemmed. After a very brief consultation, and then much back and forth about how long it would take I was finally quoted $85 for the 2, which seemed reasonable for the simple hems to be done. We were told to call several days before the prom to check on the progress. I did and was told they were not done but they would call us in a day or two - no call came. When I contacted them, I was told they still needed to be pressed but I could get them later. I asked about the final price again there was much discussion which seemed odd to me. If the work was done, why was there any discussion needed. After a bit, I was now quoted $140, which seemed crazy but what could we do. I checked the website for preferred payment method and there was none. I got to the store and wrote out my check only to be told they only took credit or cash. The woman that helped me was short with me when she could tell I was not happy. We will never go here again and will not recommend it to anyone. read more
