This is a re-posting since they keep managing to remove my review. People need to be made aware of businesses like this one. To say this company (SF Bay Automatic Gate) is unethical may be putting it mildly, but you judge for yourself. My personal opinion is the 4+ stars listed here on Yelp are a gross misrepresentation since my last 2 negative reviews have been removed as well as several others I remember reading. I realize that many reviews are subjective and boil down to each person's individual opinion and experience. For that reason I am posting a video of what happened to me and let the viewer be the judge. This way there is no he said this or that, only what occurred. Watch and make up your own mind. Don't be fooled by the receipt in the video that shows the company being Green Automatic Gates. The company I called was SF Automatic Gate and the first original receipt I received showed SF Automatic Gate. However, they obviously contract to other businesses so people need to be aware of that. In any case, SF gate has to take some accountability for the person, workmanship and dishonestly shown by the worker. Is this an ethical company? You be the judge. Would this company stand behind their work? You be the judge. Is this a company that you can trust? You be the judge. I am a property manager in San Jose, California. In October of 2018, I called SF Bay Automatic Gate who sent someone out (Sam) to make a repair to an Automatic Gate. Based on their recommendation I approved the work. The job was to replace the ground loops. Last summer the gate started to malfunction again so I had them come out to make the repairs. After they were done I received a bill for another $2400 for replacing the same loops. Obviously I was confused since I knew the ground loops were under warranty. I called Sam to meet with me at the property so he could show me what exactly it was that they did since the invoice I received just 8 months before showed they made the exact same repair. I disclosed to Sam that I was videoing him which he ok'd as I needed an explanation that I could forward to the owner of the building who was as confused as I was. At first Sam attempts to deny that the work is for the same thing. But soon he realizes the futility of that since both of the invoices say they are to replace the ground loops. Listen carefully as Sam clearly admits that it is for the same work they did just 8 months earlier ("actually, it is for the same work"). Having failed at trying to differentiate the 2 jobs he is left with no alternative but to claim that the previous work was not warrantied. As you will hear in the video, when asked as to why the work he just did was warrantied for 3 years, but the same work performed 8 months earlier wasn't, the best answer he could come up with was "I don't know" and that "it is really odd." This is HIS business, he is probably the person writing up the invoices or at least approving them, and yet he couldn't tell me why the repair work done just 8 months earlier was not warrantied, but the job he just did was? Clearly he had no intention of honoring the work he did and got noticeably upset when questioned about it. Claiming to stand by your work is an easy proclamation until you actually need to do it. It's only then you find out if the person or the company you are dealing with is honest and ethical or not. This probably explains why most of the positive reviews on Yelp are primarily superficial and whose warrantied workmanship has yet to be tested. What the video does not show is him threatening to contact his attorney if I don't pay in full and then rapidly pulling out of the driveway while shouting at me to never call him again (that I have on a second video). He also told me that he was going to send his guys over to rip the loops out of the ground if I didn't pay him immediately, which thankfully for him has yet to happen. Remembering that I had him on video probably helped him rethink that decision. The public needs to know about this business and I would be remiss if I just ignored what happened to me without posting this video and letting people make an informed decision. I doubt this review will be up long since many of the negative ones regarding this business have a way of disappearing it seems. Judge for yourself........ I called Mark to get some basic information about the company and he was very polite and friendly. I got a service call set up with him right away for Thursday. We were having power issues during the initial service call, and so he left since there wasn't much for him to do. I called back the same day to let him know the power issue had been resolved, and he said that he would be back out the next day. On Friday, I called and left messages at 11 am and 1:30 pm, trying to figure out what time he would be out for the follow-up service call. He did not answer or return my calls. At 3, I called again and he finally answered, telling me that his schedule was too busy and he couldn't come out that day. Instead, I would have to wait through the weekend until Monday or Tuesday. I told him that this was an issue, and that he should have called me sooner to let me know he couldn't make it, as we close at 5 and I was out of non-emergency options. He was rude and unapologetic, repeatedly stating that we had power issues, implying that it wasn't his fault that he had to come out again. I told him I would have to check with our OPs manager to see if waiting through the weekend would be okay, but if not, we would have to go with another company. His reply to that was "Well, that's FINE with me." I have never been spoken to in that manner before, especially not by someone I was trying to purchase something from. We will not be using this company in the future and we will definitely advise people we know to stay away. read more

they have been unable to fix my gate; it keeps breaking down every 3 months ... and their service department makes one excuse after another for their inability to repair it. Their solution to everything is to REPLACE the entire unit. I have since had another company come in and fix it. It turns out that it was a small setting on the circuit board that needed adjustment. DONT USE SF Bay Automatic Gate ...! Now for the horrific part. They charge you $299 for a service call. Even if they show up for 5 minutes to take a look, and then tell you that they'll come back with a new part. This is simply outrageous. Most recently, they came out, charged me for 3 hours of "diagnosis" and were unable to fix the gate. Then they proceed to charge my credit card without my permission. AND ALL THIS FOR A GATE THAT WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL, and I had to call in another company that charged me $75 to fix it... and it's working just fine now! Their service manager Sam Regional Manager and CEO have gone unanswered. I am so incensed by this, I will be taking it up with the Better Business Bureau, and anyone who cares to listen. Do not deal with them. There are plenty of gate companies with better service technicians, less expensive rates, and better business practices. read more

This company is on point! The owner was extremely helpful and communicative. He checked in with us everyday to see how things were going and to let us know ahead of time what would be getting done for the day. We scheduled a consultation and called back 2 days later to give them the go ahead. We paid our deposit and about 6 days later we were the proud owners of this beautiful fence! (about 2 weeks, total process) We could not be more pleased with the quality of craftsmanship, the fence turned out great I had ever imagined. We feel like our backyard is a fortress now! We had them install a black iron fence with a gate to connect our backyard with our driveway and it just looks amazing! We also have alley access at our house, where we take the trash out and it is picked up there as well. The gate that was installed to get to the alley is nearly invisible and looks so awesome! Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a quality fence done the right way. read more

What a relief. I've been struggling with a broken automatic gate for years... YEARS. I've brought out so many specialists, electricians. No one was helpful. Eventually I gave up and my automatic gate just became a forever-sealed portion of fence. Finally (after years of giving up entirely) | contacted SF Bay Automatic Gate and Jack came out and inspected the job. Not once did he make me feel that | was beyond help, and he gave me several options of how to proceed. Jack has been professional, prompt, and transparent the whole time | was working with him. I made an appointment and Forest came out and did the work in one day, and just like that I have a functional and fully operational automatic gate. They are great! I live in Napa and had a quote from Napa's only gate contractor---40 days out and twice the price for the same gate operating system! We had a 10 year old cheap motor that we needed to finally upgrade. David from SF Gates called me back immediately and was out to give me a quote within 5 days (including the weekend). The price to replace my motor was half that of our local contractor and SF Gates was out within a week to install. David did not upsell when I asked about other locks and options for my pedestrian gate. He said if they work, why change it now? He is responsive to calls and questions; they are the only people I will call in the future and recommend to friends. I don't need to deal with local contractors who tried to charge me twice as much for the same product. read more

Our driveway gate had not worked properly in over a year, I contacted SF Bay Automatic Gates and described the issue and a free on site consultation was quickly scheduled. We met with Erick and worked through the issues, with the result being a new electric unit was likely in order. Erick was content there, but I requested a quote on the entire gate replacement as the original gate was not done by a professional gate installer and had several safety issues, including being able to swing all the way into the sidewalk after a weld failed. After agreeing on price to replace the gate and motor, they team made quick work of it, all told it took less then two weeks and we could not be happier. As bonus, Erick, also made sure that the same remotes would also open the garage. Highly recommended!! read more

Recently I had a good experience with SF Bay Automatic Gates & Fences company. I was looking for a sliding gate and they came up with some marvelous ideas where I had not seen them  anywhere. I was struggling to pick one as everything was quite attractive and I would have gone with all the styles if I had a chance. The guy who came to my place to fix it - Joe, was absolutely professional and I would say he is the best worker that I have ever met. I had left a scathing review, but missed the target - the intended was a similarly named company that didn't come up in Yelp searches. My rule is "be a pain, or be wrong, but don't be both (or you have to apologize)". So, folks, my apologies - I got it dead wrong. The owner of SFBAG was kind enough to reach out and calmly explain my screw-up. He was nice when he could have been angry and defensive. That's not a lot of contact, but it's impressed me enough that I'm going to ask him if he'll provide me a quote. I should have started with Yelp instead of taking a lead from Facebook.
