They are responsible, understanding, caring, and just a pleasure to work with. They give you plenty of information about the pets that are up for adoption and they guide you through the adoption process in the most professional and courteous manner. I particularly liked the fact that they allow you to "return" the dog if for whatever reason the "fit" is not right. We initially wanted to adopt a dog through them... then we changed our minds and decided to try fostering first, since we have never owned a dog before. The two we fostered came from Taiwan. The first was adopted out immediately - she was a beautiful black lab puppy. We were heartbroken to see her leave so soon. The other one just grew on us immediately and we decided to keep him for good. Someone had discarded him and seven other puppies in a garbage dump; luckily HARA and its contacts in Taiwan were able to rescue him. Both puppies were extremely well behaved and well-adjusted -- we get this feedback constantly from random strangers. We think it is in part because of the excellent care and attention that HARA gave the puppies immediately after the rescue and while they were awaiting being brought to the US. So, if you are considering fostering or adopting -- and especially if you are interested in puppies -- i highly recommend HARA.

They gave the original adopters of my dog a blank page for the adoption certificate, and when reached by phone claimed it was a copy. A copy of a blank unsigned page? I asked for documentation on the dog I'd adopted from the original adopter and never ever got it in 4 months.

In our case, we have two kids, and really wanted to make sure the dog was a good match before we introduced them. That model isn't a great fit for shelters where they (understandably) want the whole family to meet the dog, and won't place a hold to let grownups prescreen first. Not so with Underdog! We completed our initial form, had an email exchange, and then a video call, just grownups. There was no rush, and absolutely no pressure - such a wonderful difference from what we'd experienced elsewhere. Once we felt like this was a good fit, we included the kids. Our foster was incredible. She was responsive, caring, kind, and compassionate, and it totally opened our eyes to how this process can go when it is handled so skillfully. Moreover, she gave us a fabulous download of information, all super actionable and helpful. We came home with healthy, realistic expectations, and tons of tools and resources to get us started. I felt like they listened and cared. -- This is based on our experience trying to adopt a dog from AHAN pre-covid. I saw a dog on petfinder and contacted them and then AHAN reached out to let us know that particular dog was in the process of being adopted but to look at their website for others. So we did and then since I have already filled out an application, I just emailed the person back to let them know I was interested in another dog. Turns out these dogs were in Taiwan which is fine. But the second dog that we were interested in also fell through because then we were told that dog had Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia and their adoption is now pending. They said they will reach out to recommend others but never did. Why would you list a dog for adoption before you can clear them medically? Seems like a waste of time and heart break for people that wanted to adopt.

My Korean Jindo/malinois rescue - Athena - is the absolute love of my life. Thank you!!] I adopted Athena November 2019, before Covid officially hit the US. The house visit might not be something they do during Covid. I have been looking for a rescue for a year using adopt a pet which is a platform where people can rehome their pets and rescues can post theirs. I fell instantly in love with Athena. The description of her was really, really thorough and there were 6 videos of her in different situations (with children, other dogs, on leash walking near a dog, playing with dogs, etc.) it really gave me a great picture of her personality and behavior. The process was easy once I went through the interviews. The first interview was with Jessamy and she asked me a lot of questions to ensure that I was able to care for Athena and that my place was adequate for her. I then had another FaceTime to meet Athena (who was in Taiwan) and that only reinforced that I wanted her. I sent over a donation for Athena and her crate. [Side note, I do not think that the suggested donation covers more than 40% of the total care they invest in their dogs. Athena has all her shots, a minor surgery, scans/radios and so much paperwork from her vet in Taiwan because they really take care of their health. The food she was given was good food (Royal Canin) and she had really good joint supplements. She also had toys and a blanket. The flight was covered by AHAN and so was half the crate. Also she received basic training and was potty trained, could sit/lay down and walk on a leash. If you can donate more or on a regular basis, please do. If you can't, adopting those wonderful pets is already amazing so thank you!] Within a week, Jessamy and her team took care of everything. Flights, instructions on how to pick up the dogs, crate sizes (to place in car after pick up). When I met Athena at the airport it was the best day of my life. I was there with 4 other families, all eagerly awaiting their furry baby. Jessamy stayed in San Francisco and visited all the families to make sure the dogs were acclimated. She provided really great training advice and made sure that I was comfortable with Athena. I did additional training with Athena and a trainer here which I highly recommend if you're getting ANY dog ANYWHERE. Also I'd like to share that the size of your home doesn't matter - it's the number of walks and quality of those that does. I lived in a studio (550 square feet) for the first 8 months in San Francisco. Athena is a 50lbs dog and was super happy. We do a walk in the morning (30mn), long afternoon one (45-60mn) and evening one (20mn). I cannot thank AHAN, Jessamy and their incredible team of volunteers for the work that they do. Amanda is very responsive, and is also "tuned in" to the dogs, their dispositions, what would make a good home, etc. I read a less than positive review about the application process, and it is obvious that whoever wrote it had limited experience with the process of adopting a rescue. It can be time consuming, competitive, and requires diligence. When it comes to Might Mutts, they are reviewing every application, setting up appointments, and dedicating a TON of time to making sure these precious dogs get to the right homes. It is very honorable-and I would recommend them and their organization to anyone.

I was becoming slightly discouraged just before I came across a puppy on their website. I got in contact with the rescue organizer, Amanda, and can't say enough good things about her and the people working with this rescue. They were all insanely kind, helpful, and had a genuine love for dogs. (I was surprised by how some other rescues treat their dogs) The whole process was a dream and our new baby is AMAZING.
