I work in this plaza, and i have enjoyed eating lunch there a lot. Iv worked in the plaza for 3 years and would eat here b4 i worked over here. Over the past few months i have experienced a durastic change in the way iv been served and seen the staff treat other consumers. Today i am beyond offended by my experience. I was the first person in, i normally take advantage of the bogo deal. Im overly polite, but it didnt matter It seemed like my waiter was annoyed i wasnt getting more? Only thing i can come up with why i had to ask for a refill on my water, after waiting a but of time hoping hed catch it...and then also had to ask for my check and to go box... after a bit more time from another employee. . then the ticker when i asked to have some soy sauce in my to go box i was told yes but they'd have to charge for it. 75 cents After i just dinned for probably the 50th time and had all the free soy sauce with my food but if i wanted to enjoy it with my left overs i had to pay lol ??? Just seemed really rude I have also seen them be extremely rude to a large person in a wheel chair who could not fit through their door, this was my firat time back since I witttnessing that and i am done. Terrible sushi and terrible service! The waitress was very scatterbrained, we had to repeat everything 3 or more times. Said she didn't have wine that was there, was 10 min late with our drinks every time, didn't know which roll was which, really clueless. The only thing worse was the sushi. There was barely any fish in the fish lover, tuna lover or the other 2 specialty rolls we ordered. The only thing there was a lot of was the rice which was overcooked with an absurd amout of sugar. These are my thoughts and observations. - This is not a sweat pants kind of restaurant. - The interior design is classy and modern. - Despite the high-class vibe, I was surprised by the reasonable prices. Had a decent experience here. I ordered the Friday night special (some sort of drunk noodle dish) and the tom kha gai soup. The waiter did not know anything about the dishes (spiciness, what the special was that day, etc), which was a bit alarming. He also forgot to bring me my soup, but later brought it out and either forgot or did not charge me, which was a pleasant surprise. We just finished eating some takeout from ShabaShabu. We ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Dinner, the Massaman Curry Dinner with Chicken, and the Ebi Shumai Dumplings (steamed). The vegetables and rice with the Teriyaki Chicken Dinner were well cooked, but the chicken was about 1/4" thick, over cooked and rubbery in texture. The teriyaki sauce was OK. The Massaman Curry dish strangely omitted the Cashew Nuts but included a surprise of avocado in the curry. Avocado does not belong in this dish, and the Cashew Nuts were missed. The Curry was flavorless and under seasoned. The chicken had a similar texture to the chicken in the Teriyaki Chicken Dinner dish. The steamed dumplings were just not good. Mushy and flavorless. We will not be ordering take out from this restaurant again. read more

The worst tofu I've ever had. They cut up a block of tofu into 4 huge chunks and fried the outside. Inside was sopping wet and mushy. Had the consistency of undercooked egg whites. I had one bite of my meal and told the waitress it was bad. She hurried and brought me my check. They must get complaints about their food all the time. They didn't seem surprised or hurried to compensate for it at all. $15 meal and it's the worst meal I've had in a long long time. The Diet Coke had no seltzer, they messed up the cocktail order, the metal chopsticks were dirty, the satay appetizer was quite subpar and the beef was quite terrible as well. From the soups to the rolls to the appetizers and entrees the food was hot and tasty. Where else can you go to have a 3 course meal for only $20 and also buy one get one free sushi rolls? I bought two rolls for lunch under the BOGO special. Rainbow roll and Sashimi Salad Roll were both a good size and came out to about average for price after BOGO. The sashimi roll( looks like a salad) is a great light cucumber wrapped roll with greens included, drizzled with ponzu sauce. This roll is light, tasty and a great accompaniment to heavier rolls. The rainbow roll was tasty having avocado included in the California roll center. I will return when I am in Raleigh. read more

I have been frequenting Shaba Shabu with my friends and family for well over 10 years. Without hesitation, I have recommended this establishment to visitors of the Raleigh area, until now. Specifically, an employee who I believe to be the manager, named "Pryce" confronted me. He was as arrogant, unprofessional, and void of any warmth that was symbolic of the decade-long standard I was accustomed to while dining at Shaba Shabu. On the rare instance that the kitchen makes an error, as was in this case, I reserve the right to inform Shaba Shabu so that this mistake is not repeated. That is how society improves itself. To my chagrin, Pryce felt it was his place to demean and undervalue the fact that the dish could not be eaten. I want to emphasize that I have consistently been giving this business my money since 2008. In no way do I blame the Chef or the owners who I have met and hold in high regard. Pryce is a separate matter. Because of his actions, I will refrain from patronizing Shaba Shabu until he has been relieved of his position. read more

Four of us had dinner at Shaba Shabu on a Monday night. We were greeted and seated immediately. Their menu includes Thai, Japanese and Sushi options. Our server, Edwin was helpful when we had questions about the menu, especially when it came to making substitutions or having something taken out or added in. They have nice 3 course meal specials for lunch ($15) and dinner ($20), so I tried in order to try something new, the portions are perfect. The other 3 ladies ordered the BOGO sushi, and one of them also ordered the Pad See Eew Chicken. They have a lot of sushi options, cooked and raw, but some strange rolls too. We all enjoyed our sushi. The Pad See Eew didn't have much flavor and my friend said it was just ok. The presentation of everything was very nice, the dishes, the silverware, including steel chopsticks. We all left pretty full, but I can't say I'm not in a hurry to go back. This has always been my favorite sushi spot! I love that they have BOGO rolls ALL DAY EVERYDAY! Say what?!?! And it is always so good! I absolutely love the veggie Fusion Roll, Shrimp Tempura, Spider Roll and Crispy Bagel Roll (which says a lot because I'm not a cream cheese fan). This is the perfect spot for a lunch or dinner date or a night out with your friends. The ambiance is nice and so are the prices. I love that they have daily lunch and dinner specials. Went here without checking Yelp, won't do that again. The service was poor, I asked what was in a certain sushi roll, she had no clue... I then picked 3 others, all with the same response. The server behind our table was having an argument with a customer about what they ordered. Service is not key at this establishment. The food is sub par, the sushi was decent, the chicken teriyaki was good but it's also a pretty straight forward dish. The sushi wrap was very hard to chew and could easily strangle you. They went extremely heavy on the fish eggs. The sliced hibachi chicken was very tough and didn't seem to be the best quality meat. The vegetables looked aged; the carrots were wrinkled big time, the tuna had a funny () after taste. They do BOGO sushi for both lunch and dinner. They also feature a $5.99 lunch special everyday during the week. The menu varies from sushi to Thai food I've never had anything but sushi but some of the other dishes do look intriguing. This shopping center is crazy busy there is a Trader Joes there and finding parking can be a disaster. I sat up at the sushi bar and the host served me a glass of water immediately and let me know my server would be by shortly. My server was very friendly and helped me decide on my sushi rolls. I went for the sushi salad roll and the hokkaido roll. The sushi salad roll was my favorite, no rice just fresh fish; tuna, salmon, Izumidai, crab, mesclun, ginger, wrapped in cucumber. No need for soy sauce with this roll it was delicious and I love that the ginger was actually in the sushi roll. A very unique choice I haven't seen anything like it in the other sushi places that I frequent. These rolls were big and filling, plenty of food for less than $15 for lunch. Solid choice in N. Can't go wrong with BOGO sushi! Came here with a coworker looking for a bite to eat before the show at the Ritz. I suggested Shaba Shabu due to some of the Yelp reviews from some fellow Elite Yelpers that I knew. Shout out to Lindsay S, Cindy G, and Lauryn C! We got there around 7PM and got a table pretty quickly. I noticed they definitely got the mood lighting in effect. Another thing I noticed was the vessel that they used for our water. It came in a rectangular cup. I've never seen water served like that before. Oh you fancy huh? Also, the chopsticks are metal which is interesting. I went with my usual sushi rolls of choice: Shrimp Tempura and California. The California rolls were excellent but the highlight has to be the Shrimp Tempura. They added some sort of glaze which just added a hint of sweetness which boosted the flavor. Also, the breading on that tempura was on point. It was very light so it's probably Panko and it adds that nice crunchiness which takes the complexity to a whole new level. Service was good and the staff was friendly. The appetizers (like I knew what they were) were great. Ambiance is cool, agriculture themed in the dining area we were in. It was downhill from there...very slow service on bringing the food, refilling my tea, and dealing with my check -- and it wasn't even busy! We got the 4-course Valentine's Day dinner for 2 deal, which came with an appetizer, first course, second course, and dessert. The total was $55 for two people. Because of the great price, I expected it to have small portions, but it was definitely more than I expected. I ordered the salad with ginger dressing for the appetizer. For the first course, I ordered the Thai appetizer sampler. This plate had a total of 3 types of appetizers (2 of each) with a variety of sauces for each one. I loved the presentation of it! It was very simple and cute. For the main course, I ordered Chicken Pad Thai. I'm a huge fan of Pad Thai and I was not disappointed with the taste! For the dessert, I had the Cheesecake Panko Tempura for dessert, which was very delicious! The tempura crust balanced the cheesecake very well. Despite it being a busy night, the service was great! Our waitress attended us very well and explained the menu really well, too. The only thing I disliked was how dark the eating area was. I would definitely recommended this restaurant! I'm a bigger fan of Shaba Shabu's Thai food than I am its sushi, but to be fair both are very good. There's decent sushi competition in the Triangle, but I find Shabu's Thai food to be very good relative to the competition. I was pleasantly surprised to find Shabu's prices very competitive. Our two Thai dinner entrees came to just over $20, and the portions were very generous and very tasty. We could easily have rang the bill up with drinks and desserts, but water always seems to go best with this food and there was plenty of food to settle the hunger and skip dessert. read more

Overall, the food is very good but the service has been meh. I've come twice in recent weeks with my husband for dinner. Both times I've ordered the noodles in a spicy garlic sauce with tofu and no eggs, while my husband has ordered the green curry with tofu. We both have added side salads, mine with ginger dressing and his with peanut. The salads are a refreshing start to the meal, although on our second visit my husband didn't have enough dressing on his salad. We asked the server to bring some more, but he didn't remember until clearing our salad plates. The entrees, especially the noodles, are very generous portions. And the food really is delicious, if not a bit over priced. Both times the service was just okay. It took a while for our water glasses to be filled. There was the previously mentioned forgetting of salad dressing. And we weren't really checked in on. We also noticed on our second visit that many tables were left with dirty dishes after other patrons left. It's a pet peeve of mine, it doesn't look very nice or create a welcoming environment. This use to be my favorite spot to eat and especially bogo sushi. The last two time I have been the customer service has been bad. Today I ordered Kinusu roll which is a cucumber roll no rice and a tsunami roll. The waiter "white guy with long beard" brought my order incorrectly . I kindly explained I did not order the shrimp tempura and he asked if I wanted to keep the roll, I told him I would take it home since they would probably throw it out anyway but still wanted the Kinusu because it's lower carb. Thee Kinusu yet again had the cucumber peel, looks poorly done and when the bill came out he charged for the Roll that I did not order. When I told him I was charged he took it away along with the roll I paid for. Never coming back to this restaurant. They keep making the Kinusu terrible and waiters are not friendly and look depressed. read more

Great location off Wake Forest Rd., this restaurant has great ambience. I loved the Asian theme here with the furniture. Comfortable seating and no wait time on a Sunday afternoon. Lunch specials are less than six dollars. I ordered green tea and the carafe it was in kept it hot throughout the meal. Servings were typical lunch size. Food was seasoned very well and came out hot.
