Shade Makers was recommended to me from another company. I called Tim's phone and left two messages, but never received a call back. The next week I called their main phone number and left a message. I received a call back about two days later and spoke to a nice lady who told me I would receive a phone call to set up an estimate. Unfortunately I never heard back from them. I recently contracted with Shade Maker Patio Covers. Their installers are perfectionist, they go over every single little detail and won't leave the job until everything is absolutely perfect. Let me start off by saying that we are extremely happy with the final product. The patio looks beautiful, and appears to be extremely sturdy. As far as a rating for the finished product goes, I would definitely say 5 stars. The customer service is where we had a problem with The Shademakers. Here are a few of the issues that we encountered: - I was told that the installers would be at my home at 7:30AM on Thursday morning. Instead, I had a gentlemen show up at my house unannounced at 6:00PM Wednesday night. The day of the install, no one arrived at the scheduled time. Instead of calling me to let me know, I had to call Tanya at 9:00 to ask where the installers were. I understand if they were held up at the factory, but I feel that we should have at least been informed. -The installers themselves were very hard workers, but they were messy - I'm still finding metals shards and screws all over my grass and patio. This is problematic since we have a dog and a young nephew that likes to play out there. -Our coach lights were special order, and as such were not in on the expected date. When I had initially spoken to Tanya about this, we were informed it would be no problem to have the installers come back to put them in. Unfortunately, we had a very difficult time attempting to do this. We left a message for Tim on his cell phone Friday afternoon, called the office and left a message Saturday morning, and had to call again twice Monday (leaving two seperate messages) before finally being called back. Instead of apologizing for not returning our calls, it seemed like we got nothing but excuses and the run around. Then, without confirming with us, the installers were sent back to our house even though we had not yet received our patio lights. Neither Tanya nor Tim had called to ask us if this would work okay for us. We had not received the patio lights yet, so the installers were sent for nothing. Had someone from The Shademakers called to confirm with us, it could have been avoided. -Once our coach lights were finally installed, we had no clue whether or not we were supposed to schedule our final inspection or not. We tried to get a hold of someone at The Shademakers to confirm, but got no response. My husband had to call the city himself to find out when the inspectors were coming. Long story short, the customer service is a 2. I'm disappointed that it started out good, but once money changed hands we could not get a hold of anyone. I was also disappointed that no one at The Shademakers seemed apologetic for all the mix-ups and lack of communication. To this day, we never received a follow up call to ask if we were happy with the final product. read more

I had two estimates prior to his and not only was his price the most competitive, his work and final product was superior! He and his crew installed a 50 x 13 solid patio cover with 6 post lights, 3 fans and 2 flood lights. The sandalwood with sienna wood ceiling color just made it pop. I must note that his crew were very professional as well and answered any questions I had and did a great job. I am satisfied with the patio cover but I am extremely disappointed with the follow up support. We had outlets installed in the posts and one of them had to be moved for the BBQ installation. Tim told me he would send someone out but that hasn't happened. I've tried to reach Tim by text but he doesn't reply back to the messages. I was given Tim's number after a good friend of mine received an estimate from him. My friend moved out of state, in 2016, before putting a patio in and handed me the number, stating Tim seemed like solid and reputable guy. Upon calling Tim, he came over for the free estimate and thoroughly explained all my options and warranties. After hearing his spill I decided to look no further and utilize Tim for my two patios. I could not be more pleased with his work. After approximately one year, I noticed a significant leak on one side of the patio by the facia board. Tim and his crew repaired it, even though they believed their original work was accurate and not causing the leak. Lo and behold, the leak returned and upon further investigation, it was found to be caused by the solar panel installation. Tim, knew this but he did his best to satisfy my apparent warranty issue. By the way, the solar company came out repaired the roof, flash and tiles (once again not caused by Shade Makers). Since then I have referred at least a half dozen (maybe more) contacts who also opted to have their patios installed by Tim and the Shade Maker crew. I did have one more minor issue with drainage recently from the exorbitant amount of tree leaves in my area. It was simply a pain to clean the front gutter so often. Four years since the installation, Tim sent his crew to make the adjustments and a little extra to have the gutter perform at its optimum. Everything is great and if you are truly looking for a solid, reputable, knowledgeable person who backs his word and puts customer service as his #1 PRIORITY, Tim is your guy!!! Their website has not worked for a month, they are hard to get on the phone, I ended up with a non-insulated patio cover, they brought out the wrong size and had to replace it, the columns are 1" out of plumb, the ceiling fans were installed incorrectly and they didn`t finish until 9:00 at night. They ended up fixing almost everything but I had to watch them the entire time. It would not recommend them to anyone. read more

This review is from a couple of years ago, Was not happy with the job at all. I was always told measure twice and cut once and I am a girl. Well no one on his team knew this. They cut a larger piece of the the fascia side board out than needed. They over cut by more than a foot and thought that I would not notice. I was furious and when I told him, he said " oh sorry" like it was no big deal. He was going to leave it like that and then the next day my husband had to tell him to go get the piece of wood from the dump and nail it back on. There was no clean up when they were done with the job, nails and screws left everywhere, we picked up over a hundred of these and there was glue all over my brand new patio that he never cleaned up. Tim gave me a competitive quote and his overall design ideas easily surpassed the input I received from anyone else. We previously had a open lattice alumawood patio and switched to a solid cover with roman columns.
