I went to a free dog training demonstration at LUCKY DOG and was very impressed with the trainer AND the facilities. Sarah, the trainer, had the perfect background credentials, self-confidence and philosophy so I signed up my dog to be trained by her at the dog resort. The protocols for safety (physically and emotionally) at the facility are outstanding. Soon,I met with Sarah and she developed a training proposal which I approved. My dog came home from daycare TIRED and less clingy each time he went there. When his training was complete, I was shown how to do the trainer's commands and motions and now my dog's demeanor in our home and in public is calmer and our relationship is at a new level of trust and respect (both ways). We absolutely love Lucky Dog Pet Resort! Our dog, Sam, lights up the moment we pull into the parking lot and every time I pick him up, he's happy, tired, and completely content. That alone speaks volumes! He absolutely loves the dog pool parties, yard time, and group play with other dogs, but one of my favorite things as a pet parent is getting photo updates of his one-on-one enrichment sessions. Whether it's a cuddle session, a game of fetch, or some extra love and attention, it means the world to me to see him so engaged and joyful! Those updates are such a special touch, and they make me feel like I'm right there with him. The staff at Lucky Dog Pet Resort is amazing. They're kind and you can tell they genuinely care about every single dog. It doesn't feel like just another boarding facility, it feels like Sam is staying with people who know him and love having him there. I have been taking my Labrador Penny to Lucky Dog for over a year and she loves it. Recently Lucky Dog brought on a highly skilled Dog trainer, Sarah, to their program. Knowing Penny needed training in areas of controlled leash walking, door dashing, sit and stay, drop it , recall , I signed her up with Sarah for training. Sarah had Penny come in 3 days a week for 4 weeks to train all the areas i was concerned with. After the 4th week Sarah scheduled a time with me to show me the progress of Penny's training. I was amazed watching Sarah lead Penny through all the areas we discussed. Penny was calm with her eyes on Sarah at all times. I have been following Sarah's training methods at home and Penny is responding to me correctly with each command. It is amazing how well Sarahs training help bond Penny and I even more then we had been. I am so thankful to Lucky Dog and Sarah for teaching me how to connect properly with Penny. Thankful to have this convenient, local option for doggie daycare. They also have grooming, boarding for cats and dog, although I have yet to need either service. Initial registration started with calling to be placed on a waiting list. This part took a week or two, then I received a call and email with details and forms to fill out. Registration on the website was easy and I was able to upload the completed forms ahead of first drop off. First day of daycare schedule is a little more rigid so staff can evaluate your pet and meet you during business hours. After that, there's early drop off / late pickup that gave me much more freedom than I've experienced elsewhere. They're also open 7 days a week! My dog loves her visits. There's add-on packages to get your pet one on one, leash, or pool time but even without that I feel my dog is happier there than alone at home. Staff takes great care of her and knows her name. If I'm feeling a little clingy (my dog sure doesn't miss me!), I ask for yard time and get photos/video of the good time she's having without me. read more

I have boarded my dog, Leeya several times here and she is always well taken care of and happy when I pick her up. When I pull into the resort to sign her in she is extremely excited and anxious to get in to see her friends and play. Our usual boarding place(Springdale Pet Ranch) was booked for this past weekend. I had this place saved for a bit to have a back up. We took them in same day for an assessment and they were allowed to stay as they did well. Now come the next day and I get a phone call that one of my dogs is bleeding from the tip of her ear. They gave me 3 different excuses in the voicemail they left. I called back and was told the same thing. While I appreciate the phone call in the first place, my dog did not get dropped off with any type of cute, scrape, etc. They advised me that they cleaned the area and put a come. Great! Here comes Sunday and I was called again as the bleeding had returned. I was told she would be fine for the night until pick up the next day. Now we're at pick up day and I ask to talk to a manager. I'm sent some man who I speak with and it just goes downhill. Very unprofessional and rude. Tried making all kinds of excuses. Left very disappointed. My dogs are used to being boarded and have had no issues at their original place. Will not be taking my animals back for any reason and I'd advise that you'd find somewhere else to board them. Completely unacceptable! And they don't even deserve a star. They'd get none from me if I could. Please find somewhere else for your fur family. read more

The woman I spoke with said I would have to speak with a manager and do intake before she could tell me if they had availability. I asked when that would be and she said soon. This is a good place for your dog to get some exercise but unfortunately the staff always seems overwhelmed and unfriendly. I recently dropped off my dog and they had a pool party sign up at the front desk and asked if my dog wanted to join and I said sure. I came to pick her up and they charged me an additional $25 fee and the pool party was only for one hour. I suggested they relay that information to clients or at least put the pricing on the sign up sheet but they didn't acknowledge it. Hopefully customer service gets better. read more

Used this place on multiple occasions for overnight stays. Called ahead for a bath/ day care package as we had an all day event with our children that went until 5:30pm. Explained this when making the reservation was assured they could stay til 6pm. Upon dropping them off was told nope they had to be picked up at 5pm. Explained that I had discussed all of this ahead of time and we needed them to be there til 6pm. Offered to pay ahead and pay more. Was told that without a daycare package, even though they had staff and an open kennel we could not leave them there til 6pm as scheduled. Will never use this place again and will tell all dog owners as well- especially the military community we are a part of that are always in need of daycare and boarding. It's really not difficult to keep your word on a reservation nor to make some modification and adapt if the wrong info is as provided. We've paid for boarding for 2 dogs and a cat every single time we've gone on trips (4-14 days at a time 4-6x a year). You lost a customer today. read more

The staff and dog's get treated very poorly there. Will not be bringing my dog back after today.

We have been taking our pup to Lucky Dog for about two years now, and she has always enjoyed her time there. Two weeks ago we dropped her off for a day of fun, a walk, a bath, and a trim around her eyes. When we brought her home that evening, we discovered that they had cut her tail fur (we did not ask for this) and that her tail was injured. Our girl always has a happy tail that is up and wagging. She came home with it seemingly dislocated or possibly broken. Concerned about what happened, we called the next day for answers. We know they have cameras where they groom the dogs. We were told no one knew anything and that the manager would be in on Tuesday and would be calling us to discuss what happened. (This was a Sunday). While not ideal, we decided to wait to hear from the manager. Tuesday came and went with no phone call. We never heard from the manager. We followed up by email and were told that if we wanted to talk to the manager, we could call back again on Tuesday. Thankfully our pups tail has healed during this time. But we never got answers, the manager never called us back and now we have to continue to follow up with them. We will not be bringing our dog back. This is negligent and not good customer service. read more

I had my two dogs groomed last week and 6 days later one now has kennel cough. She is an inside dog and has no contact with other dogs. I called to let them know and they said they would let the groomer know and basically were more concerned about themselves than my dog. The manager said it's air borne so I am sharing my experience so you are aware of how they handle this. Obviously I won't be going back to them. read more

We dropped off our 2 mini schnauzers for a couple of days at Lucky Dog and everything went great. The staff was friendly and our babies seemed to be well taken care of. I take no negative issue with the level of care. However, make sure you pick up your pet before 5pm or get charged for another day. What worse, is that if you arrive at 5:02pm you will not get your pet until the next day. When you even call ahead to let them know you are arriving a few minutes late, you are informed that you cannot get your dog until the next day as the office staff departs promptly at 5pm. WHAT? I can't get my dog at a 24-hour pet "resort" facility? Can you spell POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE? This is a pet hotel and as such has 24-hour personnel on-site but the poor overworked "office" folks split at exactly 5pm and make no accommodation for owners who show up a few minutes after 5pm. Are you kidding me? I drive like hell to get there on time and arrive a few minutes late to a LOCKED DOOR? "Hey, that's my dog barking for me out here...I want my dog. Talk about poor customer service. HOLY COW! read more

I was taking my dog here for a month. About two weeks after his first visit, he began cowering from me if I raised my voice to correct or redirect him. When I turned to him he curled up and was blinking like he was going to be hit. On his last day there, he was acting out when I was trying to get him in a kennel. A staff member walking in, asked to take the leash. He was uncontrollable for her as well. She crouched down and went to hit him in the face. She missed and suddenly realized I was standing there. She corrected what was going to be a harder smack, reached forward and smacked him lightly on the muzzle. We have not been back. read more

Made an appointment to have my dog groomed, When I got their they told me that there was a dog cold going around and my dog would be arround it. They should have told me this when I booked the day before. Why would you leave your dog somewhere that might get sick? That to me is poor business ship and lack of judgement on there part. Left my medium size dogn for three nights. Everything seemed great. When I picked her up she had a large sore on her left elbow. When we were taking her home we noticed her licking her right do-claw. The nail on it was torn almost all the way off. We took her to the veterinaarian and they were able to remove the nail. It was bleeding so much they had to banadge her foot. After about a week We took her back to the Vet and they had to rebandage because it still was bleeding. Another week and they removed the bandage, but it was stll red and ozzie. They had also gave me a prescripting for antibiotics and a tube of medicine for here elbow. So, about a $120 for boarding and about $ 150 for vet bill. We wont be boarding our dog again anywhere. Dog can't go with me, I won't go. They never mentioned any problem with her when I picked her up. Maybe they didn't notice it, but if so they weren't paying much attention to her. If they did know and didn't tell us that is more upsetting. read more

My 1 year old lab LOVES Lucky Dog Pet Resort. If he could rate them, he'd give them 2 paws up! The first time I dropped off my pup, they asked if I was new to Lucky Dog -- (I was), and they gave me an impromptu tour of the pet resort. How the heck they kept a pet resort that clean is beyond me. Witchcraft? Wizardry? Who knows. Either way, the facility was pretty immaculate and completely impressive. Their staff was very friendly and personable, too. They seemed to really care about the pets. I talked to 3 of the employees at Lucky Dog, all of them had pups of their own, and expressed how they know having a 1 year old lab can be tricky. Bottom line: I've been to a few of the pet resorts/doggy daycare/boarding facilities along the central coast (Santa Maria, Arroyo Grande, etc). Lucky Dog Pet Resort is the only place I trust and will continue to have my furbaby stay here. They have great staff, wonderful facilities, and they even offer a military discount for boarding. They really are the best place along the central coast. Quick Tip: If you do know you're going out of town and need to have your pup boarded, try to make plans with Lucky Dog as far in advance as you can. I called once (or twice?) and they were completely booked up! read more

Lucky Dog is a fantastic boarding facility. Clean, secure, with friendly employees who seem to genuinely care about the pups. As my vet, who recommended Lucky Dog, told me: "No one goes into the dog boarding business to get rich." My two large dogs seemed to have a good time when I went out of town a few weekends ago. They were able to stay in the same kennel together, which minimized the stress of being in a new place. They seemed happy and worn out when I picked them up. My pit bull mix even got a little sunburn on her nose, which is a good sign--she obviously spent more time socializing in the sunshine than locked in a cage. Pricing is very reasonable. I was a little apprehensive about a doggy day care - my black lab/border collie mix is super shy. Lucky Dog has several different play yards; visiting pups are placed according to their demeanor as well as their size. She hangs out in the "mellow dogs" yard. I never thought I would see the day that she would get SO excited to go to day care. When we turn down the road to Lucky Dog, she starts to bounce around the back seat, sticking her head out the window. She heads right up to the gate after we park. I buy a 5 day pre-paid package for $55, so it comes out to $11/day. With the purchase of a bath (about $25 for my 50 lb dog), day care is free! This includes shampooing, brushing, nail trim and ear cleaning. My vet charges $22 for a nail trim. Staff live onsite so there is always someone nearby for pups that are staying overnight. read more

We were away for 8 days, Chris came by every day to check on our dog and spend some time with her. Made an appointment here to wash our dog for 11:30am. Drove 20 minutes to get there. When we arrived they said that the washroom was not available. They let someone who had a 2pm appointment go in there at 11am. So we were out of luck. The business should have told the other customer who didn't have an appointment that someone had already booked the room for 11:30am. They then tried to give us an outdoor tub next to about 20 barking dogs who barked and kept on barking loudly as soon as we walked over there. My impression was that they could really care less about anyone making an appointment. read more

Lucky dog is the best! I board my two pups here regularly and have learned to get them on the list in advance as they're one of the more popular boarders. I have two big dogs (bullmastiffs) and Lucky Dog has been great about working with them and placing them in the right play yards etc.. One of our dogs is not fixed and they always stay on top of things going on with him, whether he's aggressive or other dogs become aggressive. I love how they're always really well staffed as well! They give great report outs about the stay and they make sure to call if there is any small issue whatsoever. Our pups are like our babies, so we feel reassured when they don't hesitate to reach out that they are in great hands! When we pick them up we always get them groomed before hand and they do an excellent job at that as well! I had to call them once and ask them what kind of shampoo they use, because my two pups smelled so good even weeks later (rare for my pups). In addition to great grooming services they also have a REALLY great self wash station! Much better than the one at the Petco in SLO. When we lived in Nipomo we would take our pups and bathe them ourselves regularly. read more

I checked out 2 other pet resorts before finding Lucky Dog. The others lasted 2 days each when I found them to be unsatisfactory for my Bullmastiff. Lucky Dog is the furthest from my house but worth the drive as the staff is extremely accommodating and caring. I have to kennel between two and three weeks at a time and so it is extremely important to me that my dog is happy and well cared for. My dog cannot wait to get through the gates for her stays at Lucky Dog. I go away with peace of mind she is happy and loved there. read more
