Your chef needs to learn how to cook Royal Reds... they cannot be cooked the same way as regular gulf shrimp. They are naturally very sweet and similar to lobster... should be served with a simple drawn butter... not a heavy Cajun sauce. Also, the potatoes were cooked to mush... Shaggy's On The Rez, reminds me of countless Florida tourist trap restaurants that line the Emerald Coast. Shaggy's is a big bright red building that is easy to locate on Spillway Road. For a large building it has a loud, noise level even if it is only a third occupied. This not the place for a quiet meal. Food? Average, expensive and the portions are small. My North Drop Tuna was tasty but only had a small cup of rice, 2 small pieces of avocado and no black sesame seeds. This a perfect selection for someone on a small portion diet. One of the food orders was wrong but quickly corrected. A member of our party did not drink her Bloody Mary because it was not prepared correctly. Shaggy's sits beside the Ross Barnett Reservoir and offers pleasant lake views. I suspect this is the main attraction. read more

We came for a Sunday lunch. Food is decent and service was good. It was very nice to be able to sit by the water and enjoyed the breeze. It's so enjoyable until a group of two families with three children sit down behind us and the kids were throwing all kinds of foods into water to feed the nearby alligators. THE WHOLE TIME the parents just sit there and enjoyed their cocktail drinks like they were blind to what their kids were doing. It's a shame whether they are just ignorant or not realizing feeding human food to alligators cause severe health problems for them. It's also a shame I did not see any signs on the property warning people not to feed the animals or the latter tried to do anything about the situation. read more

I visited Shaggy's and I want to start off by saying we had AN AMAZING server! He was so friendly. I wish I remembered his name but we were sure to leave him a great tip. He helped us out so much being first timers and had no problem doing so. I really felt as if he was a buddy. The food was OK I've had better seafood at other restaurants around MS but it's nothing to complain about because overall I had a good experience. Btw we the crab cake for appetizer. We ordered buffalo quesadillas, and oysters. Our ticket came out to be about $70 with all of that plus 1 regular drink and 2 alcoholic drinks that were ordered. read more

Went for lunch. Nice, laid-back beach ambience, really nice and attentive server. Prices kind of on the high side. My specific review is only about the Yellowfin tuna "Poke" bowl. The problem was that even though the ingredients, especially the tuna sashimi, were fresh the dish as a whole fell flat. My issue with the dish was that I expected a composed dish with rice, vegetables and other ingredients plus the sashimi along with some sort of sauce. In other words a I expected a dish akin to a salad with tuna. What Shaggy's take on a poke bowl was literally cubed tuna sashimi on jasmine rice with a pile of raw red cabbage and a few raw zucchini slices on the side of the plate. Great food and even better environment. Was there for my moms bday party and everything was perfect. The service was always on point. Made sure all of our drinks were filled and always suggested different foods. We had an assortment of foods from catfish to fresh oysters. Was my first time there and definitely won't be my last. I ordered Alfredo pasta with extra onion and it came out with zero onion. Well the waiter said she told the manager. The manager brought out a plate of onion. It I want a plate of onion cooked by itself I would have ordered it. The manager was not bright enough to know that the meal should have been cooked with onion. Please educate her. read more

I took an out of state work colleague here. We both ordered fried oysters, fried pickels, and crab soup. The waiter said they had no crab...but she got crab soup. This told me this is premade off site. Pickles were typical, greasy. The oysters had not taste at all and were over cooked. The waiter was not knowledable about any menu questions we asked and his service was horrible. This place must depend that their customers get tipsy and do not realize the HORRIBLE food and service. While recently visiting my home state I had lunch at Shaggy's and tried the Hawaiian Tacos. The smoked pork in the taco was delicious and the tacos were loaded with the delicious smoked pork. The spicy pineapple slaw inside the taco was also delicious along with the pineapple salsa and chips. I enjoyed trying something different and was not disappointed. read more

I was traveling for business and after reading the great reviews and looking at the wonderful choices on the menu I was very excited about visiting this restaurant. Shaggy's was very busy and I was asked to sit at the outside bar which was fine with me. Unfortunately, after a 20 minute wait I was totally ignored and couldn't even get a menu to look at. After finally getting a menu and ignored for another 10 minutes I asked the hostess if I could be seated elsewhere and she told me I could just be put on a waiting list. I left without even trying the food that got such great reviews. read more

Great atmosphere!! Good drinks and ok food. For some reason everything I always OVERCOOKED and fried in old burned grease. I'm beginning to think this is the flavor of the place, a distinctive burned old grease flavor. Tonight I was with a large party of 25-28people, they couldn't take a reservation and we had waited over an hour and a half for a table. We expected the long wait since it stays packed and you can't make plans ahead of time. The first issue was that we were all seated outside on the patio, but the waitstaff can't serve us on the patio because it's just a bar area for drinks and a station for people waiting to be seated. The second issues tonight was that they had to seat us at two different tables so they claimed people couldn't put their food items on the same ticket if we were split at different side by side table and in the same party. Third the food always Taste like it was cooked in old grease and always looked almost burned. I think this is the Shaggy's brand Since I've been here three times now on different days at different times and the food is always the same. So if you want a long wait at a kool place for mediocre food this is your spot! read more

The wait was ridiculous! The hostess was obnoxious and didn't seem to understand common courtesy. Once seated, after over an hour wait, our server Lisa was phenomenal! The food was decent. The view was gorgeous! The drinks were great. It was overall an okay experience. Had it not been for Lisa, we would have left immediately after being seated.
