I was craving poutine before I even got to Canada so did a little research and found Shaggy's relatively close to Highgate (where you can cross into Canada). Went on an early Friday afternoon. The menu has a lot of items like liver, sandwiches and, of course, poutine. We went with a large poutine and an order of fried green beans. It's a snack bar so small inside and no seating but it does have picnic tables outside. You can in and order or go to the window (which we saw several people doing). It took about 10 minutes and then we were blessed with a huge portion of poutine with absolutely delicious gravy. I tried the fried green beans and they were okay (very hot) - my dining partner loved them and almost went back to get another order. Prices were great and I liked the concept. I am so happy to have tried out their pizza this summer when we were there getting burgers. All the food at Shaggy's is top notch. Pizza is the best in the area - IMHO better than Pie in the Sky and Mimmos. Yes, I said it! It's just so perfect. A crispy buttery crust, perfectly cooked with cheesy goodness that isn't too greasy and the large is huge! Summer time is great for burgers and the milkshakes that I crave. I love a strawberry milkshake! Everyone is who works there is very cool. The owner is a really nice guy, he is pretty awesome! read more

Good Pizza, ok fried foods, unclean kitchen, some unfriendly staff, lack of phone etiquette. My family has been going to Shaggy's Snack Bar since I moved to Vermont. It's been one of a few goto places for pizza and sometimes the occasional snack. Recently I've noticed a change in their attitudes, upkeep, and availability of some foods (aka "we ran out"). Friday night we stopped by to purchase two large pizzas, a good sale for any business, before stopping by I tried calling in the order, the phone rang for a minute and a half before the telephone company said sorry no voicemail and hung up. When I attempted to call back I got a busy signal. When I went to the restaurant the girl was very short tempered and looked annoyed that the phone was still ringing, instead of answering it. She told the customer before me that she had one medium and two small pizzas left, what primarily pizza on Friday night place runs out of pizza?! The guy before me ordered a medium and we went to Swanton House of Pizza. While I was there I did have a chance to look into the two kitchen areas, from the view of the counter. The cooking surfaces were very dirty, the floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks and the smell beyond the food wasn't very pleasant. Although I reserve one star reviews for places who have completely bellied up on everything, I'm giving Shaggy's two stars and one less customer, because they still have time to pull themselves out of the nose dive they're in. I would recommend Shaggy's for quick fried food, but avoid anything unfried based on the cleanliness of the kitchen. read more

The pizza is the best in town!! The snack bar food in the summer is also very yummy. The seating is limited to picnic tables in summer that alway fill up fast!! We have been here many times and have never had a bad meal!! Parking is limited. The staff and service are always great!! read more

It's really a take out place, not a eat-in place, unless it's summer than there is the picnic tables to eat at. The pizza is good, and the shakes are too. Though in the busy summer season you're libel to wait a while & they seem to run out of stuff, just be prepared. read more

When it comes to Shaggy's, it is highly highly recommended by myself and fiancé!!! It is family owned and family ran. I highly HIGGGHLY RECOMMEND EATING AT SHAGGYS!!! Everyone I know raves about this pizza.. And it is great. My one stipulation is that it has to be a large. The large pizzas are square, making a few middle pizzas nice and cheesy. The bacon costs extra because it is actual slices of bacon! On busy nights call way before you want it, or early because we had been quoted an hour and twenty minutes, which we waited.
