I lived in KG for about a year, and this was a must anytime I passed by. It is in a convenient location near the Union Turnpike Subway Station. I moved out of NYC at the end of 2019, but I do find myself in the area from time to time. I always make a point to come visit this cart whenever possible, even if it involves a 40 minute ride on the Q10. Yes, it's that good. I like to get the platter combo with half chicken, half lamb, extra white sauce, light hot sauce. Pita on the side. I love this type of food, and have had it from many different spots all over the country, some mom n pop, some chains. This is BY FAR my faveourite one. I tell everyone about it, if you are anywhere near this cart you absolutely must go! What my stars mean: 5 is outstanding, a must-experience, someplace I would bring/recommend to a tourist 4 is great, someplace I would love to go back to again and again. Backup options to bring/recommend to a tourist 3 is good. Someplace I would return to if in the area. Friendly guy - Wifey's go to guy for over rice and wraps for years. A ton of food for under $7 and comes with soda. One meal can usually feed two. Look at how big and how much meat is in one wrap!! Insane! Flavor wise, not too shabby. Somewhat on the blander side for me but the sauces take care of it. I prefer the chicken to the gyro meat here. A good option in Briarwood for sure! read more

Me and wife ordered 2 chicken gyros with the white sauce,hot sauce lettuce, the works .both gyros were very meaty .And they cost $6 a piece, you also get a free soda with your meal. This cart serves up some good food,the next time iam up in briarwood iam going to try the chicken over white rice with the white sauce. The service is fast ,and the customer service is good as well. I'm writing this because the ratio of rice to meat is horrendous. It was my first time purchasing from this location in Kew Gardens, around the area of the City Clerk's Office. I can count eight pieces of meat (chicken & lamb) over rice. These are tiny miniature pieces, of course. The rest was just rice. Like another Yelper pointed out, Shah's sometimes pops up in different locations- this review is based off my experiences with the Shah's on Queens Blvd and Union Tpke by the E/F trains. At Shah's $5 buys you a chicken (or lamb) gyro with all the works and a free drink! Want rice? add $1 more for a platter. If you're meatless they also offer falafel which I believe is around the same range. The portions here a filling and the food is always fresh and spot on! Truly the best deal I know for lunch in NYC. Some of you guys like to get The halal guys on 53rd but that place is trash because it's dry over cooked chopped up chicken for $7+ and it's stingy. For the price of $6 you can get yourself a combo rice platter (chicken and lamb) with pita on top with a choice of drink! Ever since I introduced him, he can't get enough. We find ourselves craving this plate every so often. For $6 you get a huge portion and a drink. After a dental implant I needed to find a "soft" lunch that would taste ok lukewarm since I wasn't able to have anything hot. So I gave this place a chance. Combination platter consisted of lots of rice, shredded chicken, tender lamb, a small amount of salad, a choice of sauces (the proprietor recommended white being the mildest) and a can of soda. That was really a great deal. I thought the lamb and beef was super fresh and the guys who worked there were funny. You could tell that the Halal meat was totally worth it. It was melty in your mouth so delicious and better than some that I have had in Manhattan...believe it or not. I like the spices and the flavor. I would highly recommend that you try it. The guy is friendly and super generous with the portions. I love the lamb and chicken combo with rice, white sauce, and a tiny bit of hot sauce. All that with a soda for $6 - can't go wrong! WARNING: As much as I loveeeee this place - Do not visit when the normal older guy is off, or on vacation. This summer, a younger lad took over the stand for a few months while the regular guy was away in India and I've never been more sad about Halal. This filler guy was so cheap with the food - it was just sad. He gave maybe half the portion of what the normal guy gives. But anyway.. I love this particular Shah's Halal so damn much. Briarwood Van Wyck is definitely not the train station I hop off at to go home, but I intentionally haul my butt off the train at this stop just for Shah's. I don't know his name (which I really should), but I've never had such generous portions, EVER. Trust me when I say generous. If your regular Halal guy is generous, this guy is like Santa. But generosity won't win me over if the food isn't good. Flavor wise, this cart also wins hands down. From the rice, to the lamb, to the chicken, to the kofta, to the white sauce. Only thing I wish he could improve on is the spiciness of the hot sauce. It just isn't hot enough. $6 for a lamb and chicken over rice, LOADED + a soda. It's so nice to have this halal cart conveniently situated outside the Van Wyck stop. Even sweeter is that the food is GREAT and better than the usual halal in the city. I get the Chicken & Rice platter. Chicken is always tender and flavorful, the basmati rice is also nicely seasoned. Their white and hot sauces are also tasty, so it's nice the man here is always happy to give me extra sauce, which i always ask for! I've been eating at one of these carts for about 6 years (Shah in general). For some reason I only like their lamb and rice or chicken and rice. They use a basmati rice that makes it taste like authentic halal food. It bothers me when other halal carts use a different type of rice. Halal food tastes close authentic with this type of rice. Their white sauce is delicious and their lamb is cooked well. Their chicken is well seasoned. I have to admit the chicken would taste better with more white sauce, but either way this place is delicious. Really yummy halal cart. Got the lamb over rice and was really above most other places, besides maybe Halal guys in Manhattan, but for the price it really was delicious. Lamb in chunks rather than shredded up which I liked. Had good flavor and the white sauce was decent too. Like to mix my meat with rice and lettuce too, to bring all the flavor together hehe. Bf had added hot sauce to his and I tried it without it being too spicy for me which is a plus, so next time I can order hot sauce on mine. I think I speak for everyone in Briarwood when I say, "Thank you for setting up your cart by our station and bless you for bringing us your food." A little far-fetched, but growing up in one of the lesser known neighborhoods in Queens makes you a little irritated when you have to travel out of your way for a good place to eat. I grew up without even realizing this cart was here. I only stumbled upon Halal Food in my freshman year of high school and when I learned that a cart existed in my neighborhood, I was ecstatic. Dirty disgusting food! They have been hit with numerous violations! And yet they still operate. One their lettuce is warm and dont have a proper cooling unit to keep it cold. Two they bring their chicken unfrozen and warm in a white trash bag and than cook it. Three they dont keep the white sauce cool and have it warm which can get you very sick cause it has mayo and sour cream in it. Shahs halal food is a breeding ground for E-coli and salmonella! Beware! Shah's has got to be my favorite cart stand. There no other chicken over rice platter better than Shah's. Then one day a few weeks ago I ordered the delicious platter and realized the usual guy wasn't there. It had changed an what's worse is the food had become less than mediocre. It wasn't even that good. I was very disappointed. It wasn't till today that I realized it wasn't Shah's anymore. It changed carts and is now Zerrie's.
