I had the lamb platter with salad. The lamb and rice were cold even though it's in the aluminum container. The rice is plain tasting. Hummus was served on the salad. Hummus tasted fresh. They do give a large portion.

I've gotten Uber eats from this place a few times and it's a good halal chain if you're in Long Island. We usually get the chicken and lamb combo. The lamb is very tender and has a lot of flavor. Also love mixing in their white sauce. Overall a solid place for halal!

A Great Halal spot in East Meadow. The prices are Excellent and the staff courteous and friendly. The only downside is the seating, a limited number of tables but a large standing room only area in the center if you care to stand there and eat. The ingredients are freshly prepared as the proof is in the taste. Like a well trained assembly line the workers move from left to right as they start to build your plate. The rice and proteins you choose are added as are your choice of vegetables. The best part is the last step of the process as they take those squeeze bottles and coat as much white, green or red sauce to your hearts desire. The chicken and lamb combo I ordered was tender, moist and flavorful. If you need more sauce you can always go back and they will add more. A nice addition would be to add a small self serve sauce station for those of us who can't get enough of the first initial drenching. They open early at 10am which is Awesome and since they are located in a shopping mall district parking is never a problem. Shah proudly displays on the wall "We stand for Quality" I can't agree more.

We stoped by after a long day. The customer service is excellent. The establishment clean and food prep area clean. The portions are huge and affordable. When in the area must come.

Overall this place is okay- economical place for lunch or dinner- Food is good- clean place, better location. But i had small unpleasant encounter- lady at the cash counter charged me extra $ because she was busy and had no time to ask from the owner ( what type of combo I got), I kept telling her one thing, she kept repeating her own ideas. I have no clue how she assumed/decided that I got some type of expensive combo. I still recommend this place.

Combo over rice with a Fresca. Yummy!!

What a nice place for lunch! Walking into Shah's Halal Food, its a large space. There's a guy in front of me who places his order. I'm watching his choices: combo meal with rice, peppers & onions topped with lots of white sauce and some red. Sold! I added a few extras like a splash of hummus and cucumbers. Once all said and done? I had a meal fit for a king, so halal! I grabbed a Fresca and dove into this lunch creation. Half Lamb and Half Chicken, this was a never ending tray of food. A real stick to your ribs type of meal. I needed a nap afterwards! The best part? The entire lunch with soda was under $10 bucks. Halal Food places are starting to pop up across Long Island. I enjoyed my lunch here and I can't wait to return.

Very fresh and good additions to the usual platters

With so many halal restaurants and trucks opening in this area (such a huge influx in such a short period of time), having a favorite or two is similar to local Chinese takeouts. I've try so many good and not-so-good ones that I'd like to find a go-to spot. And perhaps I have. This local Shah's, their 8th on Long Island, is excellent; ironically similar to the previous incarnation (a Mediterranean gyro spot called Pita Lovers among other things), which was among the best of ITS kind at one point. Anyway, the chicken over rice platter here is excellent. The meat is nicely spiced, and the rice is a nice taste and natural colored, and they give you several other items (beans, tomatoes, cucumber, chick peas) to go with the salad. And of course the white sauce, which is key, is delightful. A winner and my go-to halal spot...for now.

I ordered the mixed chicken and lamb over rice with a side of French fries, loaded with both white sauce and barbecue sauce. The platter was massive and beautifully layered. The chicken was tender, juicy, and packed with warm spices, while the lamb was perfectly seasoned, thinly sliced, and had that rich, savory flavor that pairs so well with the fluffy, flavorful rice. The French fries were crispy and mixed right in, adding great texture. I loved the contrast between the cool, creamy garlic white sauce and the smoky, tangy barbecue sauce. They complemented the meat perfectly and I ended up drizzling extra on every bite. The portion was so generous I could barely finish it, but it made for an amazing lunch the next day too. I also got the lamb gyro with white sauce on the side. The pita was soft and warm, stuffed generously with thinly sliced, marinated lamb that was crispy on the edges and super flavorful. Fresh tomatoes, onions, and lettuce added a nice crunch, and that signature creamy white sauce tied everything together beautifully. Every bite was juicy, savory, and downright addictive. Everything tasted fresh, made to order, and you can tell they use quality ingredients. This is my new go-to spot for halal food on Long Island. If you're craving Mediterranean/halal eats done right, do yourself a favor and stop here. You won't be disappointed!

***INDO-CHINESE FLAVOR BOMB IN YOUR MOUTH*** ***SUPER…read moreFRIENDLY FAMILY-RUN RESTAURANT*** INDO-CHINESE? In the early 1800's a large number of Chinese citizens, immigrated to Calcutta, a city in the northern part of India, close to China. After becoming established, many of these immigrants started opening restaurants to support themselves. And then, because of a lack of certain ingredients, and to tailor the food to the palates of the Indian citizens, these Chinese chefs altered their recipes. And these new recipes, incorporated certain Indian spices, and a heavier use of spices and sauces - which made these new style dishes especially appealing - and created what is known today as Indo-Chinese, or Indian-style Chinese food. MASTER CHEF MIKE TENG Mike Teng, son of Hakka Chinese parents, was born and raised in India. He started cooking at 14, and eventually became a head chef preparing Indo-Chinese food in Mumbai. Then in 1984, he emigrated to the US and worked in the restaurant industry, until he became executive chef at the famous Jade Eatery & Lounge in Forrest Hills Queens. And it was here that he became notorious for his unique cuisine, and went on to receive numerous accolades. A DIFFERENT APPROACH After seven years of grueling work at Jade, Mike decided to take a break from the restaurant industry for a while. Then in 2019 he opened Teng's Restaurant, and set up operations in a way that would minimize work. As such, the restaurant would only open for dinner, between 4-11 PM, and there would be minimal table service. So let me explain how this works: You sit down at a table, and a friendly family member takes you order and helps with recommendations if necessary. And then you grab paper plates & cups, and plastic utensils from a shelf by the front counter. There's also a refrigerator here with drinks to choose from. And then the food is served to you at the table in take-out style containers. THE KEY TO ORDERING HERE There are a relatively large number of items on the menu, but most of the dishes can be broken down into a few different styles, such as Hakka Chili, Manchurian, Salt And Pepper, Orange, Szechuan, Basil, Kung Pao, and Ginger & Scallion. And the key to ordering here is to avoid choosing multiple dishes in the same style, as the meal & flavors can become one-note in nature. But if your vigilant, and pick some of the best items from each style, you will be rewarded with an Indo-Chinese flavor bomb in your mouth. FIRST TIME? GIVE THESE A SHOT So a few recommendations to try on a first visit, if you're able to enjoy spicy foods would be: - Hakka Chili Style Chicken or Beef - Salt and Pepper Style Fish Filets or Chicken - Orange Chicken or Kung Pao Chicken - Manchurian Style Fish or Chicken - General Tso's Chicken or Tofu - Ginger and Scallion Chicken - Szechuan Wontons or Momos - Orange Glazed Wings or Hakka Chili Wings - Basil Fried Rice - Hakka Noodles And here's a few vegetable recommendations: - Manchurian style Cauliflower or Salt and Pepper Cauliflower - Szechuan Potato or Potato with Black Bean Sauce - Spicy Stir Fried String Beans. - Mapo Tofu - Manchow Soup with or without meat YOU'RE PROBABLY GONNA LOVE THIS PLACE After many visits here with dozens of different people, I've noticed first-timers always react the same way when trying one of chef Teng's best dishes. Their eyes open wide, and the head starts slowly shaking side-to-side, and then I hear grunts of mmm! or wow! I mean really, it never fails to be a wonderful surprise for everyone. But don't get me wrong, not everything on the menu is a home run. For example, some of the Asian fusion dishes such as Pad Thai or Mango Chicken are just weird. So even though there are some things to overlook here, such as no lunch service, or the cafeteria style vibe, If you choose some of the chef's best dishes, for sure that flavor bomb is going to hit you right in the mouth, and you'll definitely be coming back here for more. I always do.
