Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow! I'm already craving their food and I've only taken 3 bites of my lamb over rice platter! I've seen this place many times as it's in the shopping center with Burger City Burgers and Lidl in East Meadow, but after my bad experience with a different Halal place, I was a little skeptical to try Shah's. I'm glad I gave it a chance. It's much bigger than I thought, casual with wooden tables. It was clean. With the order placement in the back, my order was taken pretty quickly, as the the female was preparing the order in front of me. Their menu was nice with platters and wraps and the like. I chose my platter and then got to choose my toppings which all looked inviting and enticing. I took it to go. It would have been too much for me to finish anyway. The only drawback was the lady didn't speak English- actually more of my drawback that I didn't speak her language in her space, but we finally got it down. Also, they have no takeout menus or business cards. The owner said everything is online now. I must say I order more things from home via printed menus, but I get it. A Great Halal spot in East Meadow. The prices are Excellent and the staff courteous and friendly. The only downside is the seating, a limited number of tables but a large standing room only area in the center if you care to stand there and eat. The ingredients are freshly prepared as the proof is in the taste. Like a well trained assembly line the workers move from left to right as they start to build your plate. The rice and proteins you choose are added as are your choice of vegetables. The best part is the last step of the process as they take those squeeze bottles and coat as much white, green or red sauce to your hearts desire. The chicken and lamb combo I ordered was tender, moist and flavorful. If you need more sauce you can always go back and they will add more. A nice addition would be to add a small self serve sauce station for those of us who can't get enough of the first initial drenching. They open early at 10am which is Awesome and since they are located in a shopping mall district parking is never a problem. Went today to get a platter. It wasn't busy. I ordered a chicken and rice platter. The person behind the counter accommodated my request of no veggies as I am pregnant and avoid veggies sitting out. As they asked me for sauces I asked to have the white sauce on the side ( being pregnant,I might need to reheat the food to correct internal temperature and didn't want sauce on it ). In the mist of me asking the person making the food, he slathers the sauce all over the food before I even finished talking. I wasn't in the mood to argue because it just seemed like the person behind the counter didn't care. I paid for my food and left. Very upset I wasn't heard and the staff didn't care. What a nice place for lunch! Walking into Shah's Halal Food, its a large space. There's a guy in front of me who places his order. I'm watching his choices: combo meal with rice, peppers & onions topped with lots of white sauce and some red. Sold! I added a few extras like a splash of hummus and cucumbers. Once all said and done? I had a meal fit for a king, so halal! I grabbed a Fresca and dove into this lunch creation. Half Lamb and Half Chicken, this was a never ending tray of food. A real stick to your ribs type of meal. I needed a nap afterwards! The best part? The entire lunch with soda was under $10 bucks. Halal Food places are starting to pop up across Long Island. This local Shah's, their 8th on Long Island, is excellent; ironically similar to the previous incarnation (a Mediterranean gyro spot called Pita Lovers among other things), which was among the best of ITS kind at one point. The meat is nicely spiced, and the rice is a nice taste and natural colored, and they give you several other items (beans, tomatoes, cucumber, chick peas) to go with the salad. First, I like homemade falafel. Unfortunately, they are getting harder and harder to find. That being said, I did enjoy their falafel, and it was part of a salad, which was great. The staff was pleasant.(boy is that hard to find these days) which will make me come back. My only complaint was that the cucumbers still have the skin on when served with the salad. I had tried the chicken and rice from another location and have a craving for more. I walked in and ordered it in person. The place is quite large, and was empty at the time. I ordered the chicken and rice. I asked them to hold the sauce and put it on the side instead. They start with a generous layer of delicious basmati rice with a nice sized portion of chicken. Shah's was always our go to spot for delicious cheap eats so when we were hosting a party it was the natural catering idea The food was plentiful and meats tasty however they were not very kind to my mother who had paid for and was picking up the meals because she didn't have her same credit card that we had used to make a deposit on the food. I thought this was really odd because she had all her ID on her which matched the name on her credit card but they still made her use a different one. Also I asked for mostly the mixed tomato and cucumber salad since this is the one we love however half of the order came with just plain ice berg lettuce So Shah's loses a couple of stars for not getting the order right but mostly for being rude. I have gotten the combo (chicken and cubed lamb over rice) with veggies, hummus, and both white and spicy red sauce. Tasty and filling, you can actually make a meal and a snack out of the platters, and reasonably priced at under $8. I like how adding hummus to the platter is not an upcharge, as it is in some other halal spots I've been to. This place satisfies my craving for spicy, and also my "I don't know how to make this at home" excuse to eat out. I'll be coming here frequently, I'm sure. I understand if the machine was behind the counter, but it's one of my pet peeves when businesses do this. So instead, I'll go back to my other location i frequent that refills aren't an issues. What I like about this place is that its a chipotle style halal restaurant. You can choose what you want on the platter or gyro and the food is right in front of you. My favorite thing about this place is that it's open till late! Everything around this area closes so early and I love that I always have a back up. I come here a lot!! I live that they make the falafal Fresh, I only wish they were a little bit softer but I like that they include side veggies in their plates. The fries here are soo Good, they are seasoned fries and totally worth it. You can always ask for extra white sauce and they have sauce bottles you can buy which I have and it's great to use on other foods at home. The wait time in the evening but be sometimes 15-20 min, they do get a little busy. I always order online and then go pick it up. Giving this a 5 star review because as far as fast food Halal, this is a pretty good location. The restaurant was clean, easy to access, and parking was plenty. They were able assist me quickly. I got a lamb gyro with all the goodies on it and it was PACKED. Maybe the only issue, the pita was too small to hold in all the goodness, but I enjoyed it either way. Happy accident! We'd seen this place often and always said one day we'd give it a shot. Last we wanted Thai but the local place was closed for Thanksgiving week so it was as good a time as any to pull the trigger... Will be a new go to place! Shah's Halal has been one of my most favorite halal joints ever since 2015, when I missed classes at Queens College to go and eat at their location on campus (not the truck). Six years later, I was somewhere in the middle of Long Island and I had just gone biking. Their familiar sign was almost impossibly sighted from a distance away and I grew excited. The Place: I went in and I was surprised to see it empty, but I'll take it because it means no line for me (or the place isn't good). The dining area is spacious and bright. I had no complaints on cleanliness. 5/5. The Food: One of the reasons why Shah's is one of my favorites is because of the toppings you can add. Back in 2015, I deemed this revolutionary. You could add black beans, onions, green peppers, lettuce, tomato, hummus, sour cream, and pita bread. I don't know where the other toppings went (maybe due to the pandemic) but they also used to serve corn, eggplant, guacamole, and shredded cheese. Despite missing these latter ingredients, the ingredients they did have only elevate the lamb over rice, which by itself is quite delicious. The lamb is tender and the rice is soft and fluffy. Get a spoonful of lamb, rice, and different toppings in your mouth and the texture and different flavors will blow you away. That is why I go to Shah's. 4/5 (5/5 if they had the other toppings available). The People: The dude who took my order was cool with the chit-chat. I'm usually not a fan of small talk as I'm a straightforward kind of guy, and I did misinterpret him a few times during our transaction. But I'm not complaining. 4/5. This is the third Shah's location I've seen (the second being on Hillside Avenue somewhere on Long Island) and it's nice to see more of them. IMO, they are one of the better halal joints out there and they revolutionized halal for me. I highly recommend them, and I'm hoping to see another one of their signs closer to home.
