I have had the most AMAZING haircut here. I saw Haruka who was so sweet and listened to every haircut fear I've had in the past. She gave me a great bob. Given my super straight hair, she took her time cutting it wet and dry! I have never had anyone do that before. I added a picture of my haircut you can see how it is so straight! She is so attentive and has great attention to detail. She checked in with me throughout the haircut to see if I liked the length etc. I usually get my hair 1-2x per year and I will be coming back every time! As someone with naturally dark brown (but not black!) hair I have had my fair share of terrible dye experiences. Saki single handedly saved my hair. If you want a precision haircut you should go to see Kota at Shair . He always cuts my hair in a way that works with my face shape , and my mood . I also appreciate his ideas that end up lifting me up . I have a virtually straight hair and also have a lot of hair, I've been thinned out my hair overly in the past , which made my styling harder . He precisely keeps some weight on purpose, but takes off some density on some level . I basically don't blow out myself , just wash and go usually. Since I get a haircut from him, my hair still looks nice though I am so lazy for my styling. Every once in a while, he encourages me to dye my hair too. Last time, I got balayage color without bleach. I was little bit afraid to be utilized a bleach for my previous colored bottom, but he recommended to try some color product that can mitigate damage. And result was truly amazing! Really like the tasteful interior of this place and attentive staffs. Highly recommend:) read more

This is a terribly overdue review. I have been going to see Shinji @ Shair for years now, first at their West Village location and now in Union Square. I am in no way high maintenance and I always get the same haircut+color (lol) but it was difficult to find a combination of a salon that I felt comfortable in (SHAIR is oozing with peace and calm) and a haircut that I was satisfied with. Finding a go-to stylist has been a huge relief for my low maintenance self because I now never have to look for another salon ever again and I never have to explain what kind of haircut I'm looking for. I walk in looking a mess, Shinji does his thing and I walk out looking pretty decent! lol. I'm new to the city, and I've just found my resident salon. The service and treatment I got from SHAIR was impressive - Saki was my hairdresser. She did a phenomenal job of getting my hair in shape by trimming off all my split ends and giving it some dimension with layers. Saki is professional and has years of experience in her craft - I don't want to sound presumptuous but you can sort of tell from the way she was effortlessly cutting my hair but with so much precision. I left the salon very satisfied with how my hair looked :) She also made me feel welcomed from the moment I entered the salon. I had a great conversation with Saki and felt relaxed the entire time. As a person who enjoys her head massages, I'm just gonna put it out there: if you're like me, then you won't be disappointed! The salon itself is easy to find, and the interior is very spacious and comfortable. There was definitely a crisp white theme with a rustic touch going on; everything was modern looking including the furniture that seemed tastefully picked out (they had these efficient reclining chairs at the hair wash stations.. A review tad overdue. I booked a coloring session with Saki about 2~ months ago. First off--Saki's super cool 'n nice!!! I came in looking like a tired and diseased Chewbacca from after class, but she was courteous and respectful (I felt a little bad that I wasn't as talkative then haha). Anyways, Saki's been in the hair game for a long time (which I find admirable af!!!) which really showed with her thorough explanations. My input was considered (aiming for a dark near-black grayish blue) + she gave her own thoughts and advice (ie. double toning so the color would fade nicely from dark blue to gray, which it did as of now). All her actions were explained without me even asking, which was reassuring and comforting. And of course, the overall vibe of SHAIR was really chill.
