Look at this generous size of an appetizer!! Hello Brussel Sprouts!!

The service is excellent! Vernon and Michael took good care of us. We ate dinner here. The food came out fast. When we asked to split the meals, they gladly brought the portions out on separate plates for the salad and the penne pesto alfredo. I still couldn't finish my half. Be prepared to take the leftovers back to your room!

Located on the 12th floor of the Marriott Vacation Club downtown, this bar lounge is casual with self-seating. There are many tables/chairs and seats at the bar. In select days, there is even live entertainment! My party and I tried the chicken wings with bbq sauce (10/10 and very crunchy!), Mediterranean salad (8/10), and for my entree I ordered the fish n chips (7.5/10). The fish was crunchy but had a thick batter coating. The sauce was good and the fries tasted as good as they look. For dessert we ordered the butter cake (8.5/10) and churros (10/10). Both came with vanilla ice cream and fruit!!!

While staying at the Pulse in downtown San Diego, we dined twice here for breakfast. The bagel with salmon and cream cheese was beautifully presented with cucumbers, capers, red onions and microgreens. The açaí bowl was covered with sliced fresh fruit. I also enjoyed the not-too-sweet granola and yogurt parfait loaded with fresh berries. Coffee was typical Starbucks. Service is only at the counter, friendly, but limited. Dining area is very large and spacious.

We were staying in the Marriott timeshare and ate here the first time because it was convenient. We came back because it was good. The first night we were too tired to go out so we sat at the bar and had their fish and chips. The next morning we came back and had their 2 egg breakfast with sausage. Everything was always done just as we asked and they were consistent in quality and service.

While staying at the Marriott Pulse Vacation Club in San Diego, we stopped in here for a drink before heading out to dinner. They have a nice cocktail list, some top shelf offerings, and Vern - a very enthusiastic bartender! The drinks he prepared for us were great and his service was excellent. The venue is rather blah, boring, and echoey loud, as it's a bar in the middle of what looks like a large, high-roofed room. We stopped back in the next morning for coffee and the staff was helpful and friendly. They offer a full breakfast, as well as fruits, snacks, pastries, etc.

Great location downtown in the Marriott vacation clubs. Fast and friendly service. Went on a Saturday night and they had live music.

We had the pleasure of staying at a Marriott pulse this last weekend for the first time. This is the restaurant bar and lounge located inside the hotel. We only had the opportunity to eat breakfast with shake bar and lounge however it was pretty dang good. I wish I would've took pictures however everything that we were eating we were pretty much munching down on the way out to another adventure. We did have their Barada arugula flatbread it was super delicious the balsamic glaze was to die for I really really enjoyed it and so did the Hubby we shared breakfast this morning he had lox and bagel and it was pretty delicious. The salmon was not fishy it wasn't overpowered with cream cheese the capers were not too salty it was actually pleasantly surprisingly good. They do have a Starbucks at the bar that is only open from 7 AM to 11:30 AM which is kind of a bummer to not have it open all day they do have a Starbucks within walking distance however usually Marriott does have it available throughout the day however I would like to mention that the two people working the breakfast counter every morning we're amazing perfect actually. There was one girl that was there every single day she had braids and she was super sweet and she actually made the best latte from any Starbucks that I've ever tasted and her coworkers did well one time it was an older lady who was super sweet and the other days it was a younger gentleman with glasses and he also made a really good latte not as friendly as my homegirl with the braids but he was nice. The second morning we had their two breakfast sandwiches one with sausage one with bacon again we split them they reminded you of like a Starbucks breakfast sandwich but just a little bit better they're pretty good nothing to write home about not like the flatbread and lox bagel. Both of those mornings we got a naked juice orange juice so we would be ready for the day. I did like that you could get champagne or some vodka to spice up your morning before you go walking around. The other days we were there we decided to venture out for brunch. I want to say the gentleman's name was Miguel her name was Melita I could be wrong Looking through some of our receipts her name also could've been rose but I'm pretty sure it was the gal who is working with Miguel most mornings. The bar situation was pretty cool we stopped in before and after our events man I'm super depressed that I can't remember the guys name who helped us most days he had a man bun and he was very proud of it lol he had really good bartender conversation asking us where we're from about the local sporting events etc. The hubby being a bartender he pays attention to the pour and knowledge of the alcohol and he didn't complain about this guy I think he liked him like I said he was pretty funny I want to say his name was Vernon. Again we liked Vernon he was funny he had a lot to talk about you could tell he was comfortable doing what he did. There's so many wonderful restaurants in San Diego we didn't have any meals besides breakfast at this restaurant because we wanted to go out and check everything that we could try everywhere that we could that's just our style when we travel Pretty solid hotel restaurant bar situation. People were nice and the environment was inviting.

This is located inside a hotel on the 12th floor, which is also where registration is so everyone has elevator access. Quite large. For food, order at the bar, takeout is common, plenty of table seating, as well as, lounging couches and tv. There are signature cocktails and a selection of brand labels that you'd expect. They even have a piano tucked into a corner. Very convenient for hotel guests! The (think small dishes) menu has quite a variety, gluten-free options if needed. The service is top notch and was noticeably appreciated by everyone.

Service is super fast. Food comes out piping hot. Very tasty! Side of salsa verde has a little heat but is a great addition.

    "805" local brew...

As part of my stay in San Diego for business, I enjoyed both my food and service at Shake, the restaurant for the Marriott Pulse. I was honestly surprised they did not have multiple restaurants like some hotels, but this one manages to execute most dining needs fairly well. The interior is modern, but not cold or uninviting with a variety of seating types. Both Laura and Vernon (barkeepers on duty) were always super attentive and just great in taking care of my needs for dinner and drinks. One meal was a pretty typical burger that came with cole slaw and chips plus grilled brussell sprouts that joined my "805", a local adult beverage which became my go-to beer at Shake. This was a good meal, better than I expect for a hotel bar/grub/pub place. The next day I had a salad and a veggie burger, which was also very good. Please note that in California, Avocados seem to come with every meal offering so be prepared! And on a third day I caught happy hour prices with a meat lovers flatbread that was just great. Note they have Starbucks coffee at the same place in the morning, no lunch service. If I had a complaint it is the menu is not deep, and I wish I had more choices. All in all, for a hotel restaurant this was a great stop and would highly recommend trying out.

The atmosphere is definitely creative and fun, and I like that there are several food options along with a large selection of cocktails and mocktails. On this visit, we tried the rice dish and the pancake, and while both were okay, the flavors seemed just a little off compared to what I was expecting. The cocktails were also much stronger than anticipated. We sat at the bar this time instead of at a table, and the seating felt very cramped. The bar stools were so close to the standing area that it was difficult to even pull out a chair without people brushing past. Because of that, we ended up finishing our food and drinks and leaving pretty quickly instead of lingering and enjoying the experience. Mothership has a really cool concept and a unique vibe, but for me, it's more of a place to try once in a while rather than somewhere I'd be rushing back to visit.

I love coffee (specifically strong espresso drinks), so I asked for a strong, coffee infused, punchy cocktail, but with a different base of alcohol from the old fashioned. What came out was the best cocktail I will probably ever have in my life. The bourbon cocktail with coffee liqueur (and a number of other garnishes I will never remember) hit the bullseye. I've gone over the past decade with friends/family alike and 60% of the time it's been solid. As I've looked around before posing, it seems the restaurant is in a steady spiral downward over the years. I've had great service here and it sucks to say this evening was such a poor experience. I hope everyone working can be on the same page moving forward to avoid this happening again to others. I decided to come by for birthday dinner and figured 8pm was a decent time to still get great food and service. We made a reservation in advance and got to a table in 5 minutes. That's wonderful, always love that for anyone. The non-alcoholic drinks are always a favorite as someone who's been sober for years. However, it all got much more complicated after that. After not hearing or getting any updates from the server for 50 mins on our appetizer, we asked if everything was ok and if they had potentially forgot about our order. It's happened before no worries. The server said no and it just takes a while. That's fine and fair, it's to be expected on a skeleton crew for a Wednesday night shift. It was odd to see at least 4 tables and groups who had been seated after us get their food before us. When we got our Doom Bloom, around 8:55pm, over 50% of it was burnt to a crisp, the smaller mushrooms had been completely blackened to a point where you could just taste charred. Something tells me this is not the best way to serve food to others but what do I know as someone who's been coming here for years. When we got our Mind Melt and BBQ Jackfruit, which was another 50 minutes later now around 9:40pm, these entrees had met the same fate. The BBQ Jackfruit sourdough was so dry and burnt it tasted like a saltine cracker left in a campfire as a joke. The fries were overcooked, super dry, and stale all at the same time. It's like it was left in the heat lamp for 30 minutes or far too long to be enjoyed for what would be great food. My partners food thankfully wasn't to the same degree as mine but still not great. We were checking with ourselves quietly to make sure the other wasn't loosing it or if we were missing out on something. People will be people and that will never change. I hope some else won't have to spend over $100 with tip included to get the same service we got. I cannot imagine how bad things are behind the scenes for this to be a standard the staff are okay with and that they perpetuate based off other recent reviews in this matter. It was embarrassing and a waste of money. I do not recommend coming here given how this situation has transpired. My stomach still hurts while typing this review on my sofa at home.

Meanwhile, we were sitting there with our purses shoved beside us and weren't offered the same courtesy. It may seem like a small detail, but combined with the lack of attention, it made us feel overlooked. The drinks came out quickly, and the chicken satay and mac and cheese were decent. I parked on the street close to the dinner spot I went to and then walked over to Charade. Ambiance (5/5): Charade is a speakeasy so here's your clue. It's located inside Balboa. Look for the room with the arcade games and you're on the right track. Once you enter the speakeasy, you'll immediately be impressed with the old school charm. It seats roughly 20-30 people and there's a bar on one end and a stage on the other end. Old school red curtains add to the vibe. And here's the best part. On Mondays, it's jazz night. Local musicians will play which makes for a great time. Service (3/5): There was one bartender working when we were there. Overall, she provided pretty good service. There was one comment she made which rubbed me the wrong way but no biggie. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so were on a liquid diet. I did notice that they have a few snacks available like popcorn. Drinks (4.5/5): When you think of speakeasies, you think of elevated cocktails. I look for creativity and an interesting blend of flavors and ingredients. The menu here, while not huge, has some interesting options. Outside of the menu itself, the prices are reasonable (especially for California). And they make you stiff drinks which is always appreciated. Taking into account the cocktails and the ambiance, Charade is an awesome laid-back speakeasy. Make sure to stop by on a Monday for jazz night. That takes things up a notch.
