They strive to make their guests feel truly welcome. Bar is fully stocked and service is excellent. Menu items for dinner cover the gamut of appetizers, flatbreads, pasta dishes, burgers, salads. sides and dessert. Breakfast is also served and cover the usual egg dishes, açai bowl, breakfast burritos and pastries Coffee is Starbucks, which apparently is the contracted brand with Marriott. The bar is open in the afternoon starting at 4:30 pm Food comes out quickly for breakfast and dinner and is quite savory. Vernon was very sweet and since it was not terribly busy took the time to talk with us while making sure everyone else was content at the bar. Very engaging, made it an awesome experience. The food selection wasn't expensive, but the things we ate were really good. They all came out very hot, fresh and tasty. The fish was crunchy but had a thick batter coating. The sauce was good and the fries tasted as good as they look. For dessert we ordered the butter cake (8.5/10) and churros (10/10). While staying at the Pulse in downtown San Diego, we dined twice here for breakfast. The bagel with salmon and cream cheese was beautifully presented with cucumbers, capers, red onions and microgreens. The açaí bowl was covered with sliced fresh fruit. Marriott wants you to join their ripoff timeshare program. And one of the selling points on its pretentious perks like special events for owners. The Super Bowl event we were convinced to come back for was so effing lame. Crappy stale food and crappy mocktails. Also, they said they would have discounted other specials but it was only $3 off a microwaveable crappy bread with ketchup and fake cheese. And this was from their regular menu. I will tell you that the good reviews are from people to lazy to cook their own food or to chain restaurants way too often because if they did they would know that this food is crap. Oh and the service was atrocious. One bar/ server for 40 people is inexcusable, especially if they want to treat you like an owner. Super poor everything. read more

The first night we were too tired to go out so we sat at the bar and had their fish and chips. The next morning we came back and had their 2 egg breakfast with sausage. This little hotel eatery is pretty danged good. Expectations weren't high but their food is actually made on site, not elsewhere and then nuked. The baristas minding morning coffee delivered perfect whole milk lattes every day. During our four night stay we had their Brussels sprouts (really good flash fried with some bacon), Margherita flat bread, and a scrumptious breakfast sandwich with bacon and egg on brioche. Fresh and delish. Staff is fun and friendly. Only knock is it's a Pepsi house (Marriott) but that's not the fault of staff or kitchen help, and they do a great job. The food I had was good and met expectations. But would have hit a 4* in both price for perception of value. They have a nice cocktail list, some top shelf offerings, and Vern - a very enthusiastic bartender! The drinks he prepared for us were great and his service was excellent. The venue is rather blah, boring, and echoey loud, as it's a bar in the middle of what looks like a large, high-roofed room. We had the pleasure of staying at a Marriott pulse this last weekend for the first time. This is the restaurant bar and lounge located inside the hotel. We only had the opportunity to eat breakfast with shake bar and lounge however it was pretty dang good. I wish I would've took pictures however everything that we were eating we were pretty much munching down on the way out to another adventure. We did have their Barada arugula flatbread it was super delicious the balsamic glaze was to die for I really really enjoyed it and so did the Hubby we shared breakfast this morning he had lox and bagel and it was pretty delicious. The salmon was not fishy it wasn't overpowered with cream cheese the capers were not too salty it was actually pleasantly surprisingly good. They do have a Starbucks at the bar that is only open from 7 AM to 11:30 AM which is kind of a bummer to not have it open all day they do have a Starbucks within walking distance however usually Marriott does have it available throughout the day however I would like to mention that the two people working the breakfast counter every morning we're amazing perfect actually. There was one girl that was there every single day she had braids and she was super sweet and she actually made the best latte from any Starbucks that I've ever tasted and her coworkers did well one time it was an older lady who was super sweet and the other days it was a younger gentleman with glasses and he also made a really good latte not as friendly as my homegirl with the braids but he was nice. The second morning we had their two breakfast sandwiches one with sausage one with bacon again we split them they reminded you of like a Starbucks breakfast sandwich but just a little bit better they're pretty good nothing to write home about not like the flatbread and lox bagel. Both of those mornings we got a naked juice orange juice so we would be ready for the day. I did like that you could get champagne or some vodka to spice up your morning before you go walking around. The other days we were there we decided to venture out for brunch. I want to say the gentleman's name was Miguel her name was Melita I could be wrong Looking through some of our receipts her name also could've been rose but I'm pretty sure it was the gal who is working with Miguel most mornings. The bar situation was pretty cool we stopped in before and after our events man I'm super depressed that I can't remember the guys name who helped us most days he had a man bun and he was very proud of it lol he had really good bartender conversation asking us where we're from about the local sporting events etc. The hubby being a bartender he pays attention to the pour and knowledge of the alcohol and he didn't complain about this guy I think he liked him like I said he was pretty funny I want to say his name was Vernon. Again we liked Vernon he was funny he had a lot to talk about you could tell he was comfortable doing what he did. Sup Yelpers? Woo hoo! Back in San Diego. Okay so Marriott is trying to lure vacationers with a vaca club downtown close to the Gaslamp district. Yes you have to eventually sit through a sales pitch but if you hit this area often on vaca, it's worth a try. This review is truly first world so allow me your indulgence. This is "Shake" the lounge. Needless to say I am above their target age range given it is super youthful and trendy but obviously for well heeled hipsters, techies, monied or headed in this direction. This seems more aimed at the early 30's through mid 40's crowd. Upscaled versions of that segment. Young, vital, busy, fit. Kinda makes one feel younger just being here. Forest is our server. The guy is your homie out the gate. Genuine. Smiley. Attentive. Impeccable to the last detail. Not who you would expect this price point. More usual a more upscale dining experience but grateful he hasn't moved on yet. He should be appreciated. The lounge is super nice. Very clean, modern, but not cliche. Marriott did this right. The steak. I eat at 5 star Steak and Chop houses so my expectations are sometimes absurd. I work hard AF for a buck so I want my expenditures commensurate. Gimme what I pay for. Buttery tender. I really can't say the last place that got my steak the right cut, tenderness and flavor profile this spot on. Really. I am picky. I only Yelp the great and the bad. If you aren't worth a mention one way or the other, no Yelp. Had potatoes O'Brien. Expected frozen bagged duds. Common sense says they came from a bag but these looked, tasted, appealed to my taste buds as freshly cut. Perfectly seasoned. Chunky sweet red bell peppers, supple sauteed onions. I make them like this at home. I've been making them for 30 years. These came pretty close to mine and mine take close to 45 minutes. The sausage links. Plump and had that snap you expect when you bite through. Wrapping this up. Shake is the spot no matter where you are staying when in San D. This is where you want to enjoy a meal. This is the total experience. I realize the economy is tough for most of us, but if you are doing okay, demand a value, expect a great dining experience for the time you drudge through work to pay for it- "Shake Bar & Lounge". As part of my stay in San Diego for business, I enjoyed both my food and service at Shake, the restaurant for the Marriott Pulse. I was honestly surprised they did not have multiple restaurants like some hotels, but this one manages to execute most dining needs fairly well. The interior is modern, but not cold or uninviting with a variety of seating types. Both Laura and Vernon (barkeepers on duty) were always super attentive and just great in taking care of my needs for dinner and drinks. One meal was a pretty typical burger that came with cole slaw and chips plus grilled brussell sprouts that joined my "805", a local adult beverage which became my go-to beer at Shake. This was a good meal, better than I expect for a hotel bar/grub/pub place. The next day I had a salad and a veggie burger, which was also very good. Please note that in California, Avocados seem to come with every meal offering so be prepared! And on a third day I caught happy hour prices with a meat lovers flatbread that was just great. Note they have Starbucks coffee at the same place in the morning, no lunch service. If I had a complaint it is the menu is not deep, and I wish I had more choices. All in all, for a hotel restaurant this was a great stop and would highly recommend trying out. read more

The Chef knows his stuff, every order from street tacos, to breakfast has the best and unique flavor.... We had dinner here once and breakfast 3 different times during our stay......our only problem was how very loud it was.... Especially dinner, they had live music on top of the tall ceilings, voices carry and then the music was so loud.... Again, Food was so flavorful and the staff very helpful. This is Marriott's answer to a limited dining and lounge option in their lovely, high end Pulse Hotel in San Diego. Marriott tries its best to do things well, with careful attention to comfort, convenience, service, and tasteful decor. However, I feel they missed the boat on this one. Most annoying, they should have paid some attention to the acoustics. The high ceiling'd vast room where the dining area is located is also framed by business offices, the hotel reception desk, a large lounge and concierge desk, and in the middle, the ultra modern bar and lounge itself, and a Starbucks. This large enclosure serves as a passageway between the hotel and the music hall that shares this building, and the elevators. It sees and hears all the bustle and noise with no buffer. It was an uncomfortable echo chamber. The rawness is further accentuated by the lack of color, grey everything..grey stone, grey brick, grey laminate flooring, grey walls, grey wicker, grey servers' uniforms. There is nothing warm and inviting here. We had a quick breakfast here that consisted of good tasting turkey sausage, sliced tomato, eggs, and pepper bacon. The prices were decent, the coffee good, the service excellent. While the food was of good quality, the ambiance was cold. There were no vast windows rendering a view of a remarkable, historic city, nor reminders of the moderate ocean influenced weather, palm trees, and Spanish architecture just outside these walls. San Diego has so many wonderful one of a kind dining opportunities, that unless you are in a rush and just need something in your tummy, this should not even tempt you, unless you don't want to joust with traffic and parking. read more

What a find!! Open from 9a.m. - 11p.m. 7 days a week. Located on the 12th floor of the Marriott downtown. You walk in and seat yourself a waiter will come by and take your order. They have a lot of drink options and food options. They can also serve you Starbucks as a added bonus. Foodwise the San Diego sandwich was my favorite thing so far, it has chicken bacon & avocado, really good. Dessert wise their churros, where my favorite. Overall I really enjoy this eating option, it's open late & you seat yourself with no wait or hassle. The place is upscale a nice place to take a date along with with a great menu selection. Located on the 12th floor of the Marriott - Pulse. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, happy hour, you name it. I came here twice - once for happy hour and breakfast. Happy hour - our bartender, Tim, was great! He was very attentive and friendly. We ordered grapefruit mules, tater tots, and steak quesadillas. Everything was great! We topped it off with a chocolate fantasy cake with strawberry ice cream. Great way to carb load before our 1/2 marathon. Breakfast - everyone was so friendly! I wish I was more attentive and captured their names. We ordered chilaquiles, pancakes, bacon, mimosas, and a latte. The service was quick, the food was fresh and tasty, and my latte was Starbucks. No complaints! This was a great go to stop especially since we were in town for a 1/2 marathon. My legs gave up after my run, so the hotel lounge with great food was amazing! If you're a Marriott timeshare owner you get a 10% discount. Extra points for that! read more

We stopped here as it's inside our hotel and they were offering $3 tacos on Thursday. You can choose from beef, chicken or mahi mahi. We each ordered 2 tacos. They arrived rather quickly. We finished them and waited forever to see our server again. We didn't see him for about 15 minutes until after we were done. We saw two other servers often but not ours. We asked for our check and left. We were not offered drink refills. We just ordered water though. The tacos were good, nothing that would make you think it was a signature item of the restaurant. Not sure on the rest of the food. If we go back it will be because of the specials or just to lazy to go elsewhere. read more

We had the pleasure of staying at the Marriott Pulse for five nights, during which we frequented Shake for meals and happy hours. I first have to mention the bartenders Tim and John. They were both wonderful. So friendly; we looked forward to seeing them each night. The menu has a good variety; we ordered the tacos one evening and they were very flavorful and filling. The bar is comfortable with various lounging areas where you can sit and enjoy your drinks. We had breakfast at Shake each morning. The servers were especially nice, and the food was consistently good. We splurged on Mother's Day and ordered the Eggs Benedict, which was cooked perfectly and very delicious. Should I return to the San Diego area, I would definitely make it a point to go to Shake, even if I'm not staying at Pulse. read more

The restaurant is very spacious, they had a game going on at the bar, and a live cover band performing. They were awful actually, but they were so bad, they were good kind of deal. Not too much lemon, perfect, runny poached egg and a crispy English muffin. My husband had the crispy French toast on the first day which was delicious and guess what? Crispy! Nestled on the 12th floor of the Marriott Vacation Club Pulse and Symphony Towers, SHAKE is a bar/lounge that could be called a hidden gem! They call 4 to 7pm "hungry hour" and I got their proclaimed favorite, the molitas. I call it a yummy, meaty, cheesy, soft and crunchy spot satisfied snack. I like that you can sit either around their large centerpiece bar or anywhere else on the floor from varied table sizes and lengths to incredibly comfortable couches and other loungers. If you are in Symphony Tower for a visit, it is worth it to pay SHAKE a visit on the 12th floor. Their cocktails on their hidden menu are delicious!!! Just ask bartender, Tim.
