Had a staycation at the Omni at the Ballpark. Hung out at the pool and ordered food and drinks from Tortuga the pool bar. Danielle our bartender was great! Drinks were all delicious with my favorite being the creamsicle (tasted just like one). For food, the pupu platter was delicious and great to share between 4 people. The wings had a delicious sesame sauce. For lunch I ordered the smash burger no cheese and it came with 2 hearty patties. Would have ordered French fries. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall we had a great experience and really enjoyed the Tiki vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Tortuga is the rebranded pool deck and bar at the Omni San Diego Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter. Previously, there was no name to this area on the sixth floor, but now a turtle mascot leads the way. One sign said Tortuga was open from 12 to 7 pm daily while the website mentioned a 6:00 pm closing time. Guests of the property could scan their room card to unlock the doors. If you were a visitor, then you had to knock on the window to catch the attention of a bartender who could use a fob to remotely unlock the entryway. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The view faced south overlooking part of the San Diego Bay.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bar and lounge area were under cover while the pool and chairs on the deck were exposed to the sun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It looked like a comfy spot to unwind after an event like a Padres baseball game next door at Petco Park.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food menu had four pages with the categories of Starters and Salads, Handhelds, Bowls & Tacos, and Desserts. I chose one of the two available mocktails for a drink. The frozen slush machine was not working so the bartender crafted a Pina Colada out of coconut cream, pineapple juice, and lime juice. For food, I picked a Crab Cake Burger which was a lump crab patty dressed with lemon caper aioli, arugula, and marinated tomatoes on a poppy seed bun. Chips or seasonal fruit came with the order so I opted for the latter. The price was actually one dollar less than the bacon cheeseburger which was not a bad deal for a crab cake patty. The aioli's tartness and arugula's spiciness helped cut through the crabby flavor. Between the setting and the food choices, I was more impressed with Tortuga than the ground level bar/restaurant at this hotel.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Really fun poolside bar; great atmosphere and friendly staff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had the poke nachos and they were delicious.

4/5: Service was attentive and the waitress checked in w/ us several times. We were there just to swim and use jacuzzi. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a fantastic night because most people were out either partying or at the baseball playoff games.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ordered smoked tuna sliders: I was imagining smoked tuna steak but that was it. It was still good though. Burrata salad was good & refreshing but I'm not a huge fan of prosciutto.

I am happy to update my original review based on our most recent experience at Raised by Wolves. I…read morewanted to give them another go since our first experience didn't live up to the hype that surrounds this establishment. My husband and I just finished our dinner at Teleferic Barcelona when I suggested we give Raised by Wolves another try - as we had about an hour before picking up the kids. For a Saturday, I was pleasantly surprised that as walk-ups we only had to wait a few minutes before we were seated at the bar inside. While we waited, we enjoyed perusing their bottle selections for purchase and I'm happy to say that playing music slightly louder in the waiting/market area helped dull the sounds from the inside bar. It helps create more of a 'moment' when you sit at the fireplace and slowly turn inside. This time we were seated right at the bar, which was perfect for us. Chuck was our bartender and 10/10 on the cocktails he made. This time, I went with their Tiki Room and my husband an off-menu Boulevardier (which I have to say I'm impressed he knew what that was because even I didn't, lol). Both drinks were perfectly crafted and enjoyed by both of us. We only had a moment for just one drink this time, but I have to say our experience was so much better than our first (perhaps a fluke of an evening). The staff were all welcoming and knowledgable, other guests were dressed well, and the ambiance lent itself to the vibe we were looking for. After doing some homework, I made the connection that Raised By Wolves was part of the hospitality group that also owns Lafayette Hotel, The Baby Grand, Ironside, etc...all locations my husband and I absolutely adore. Happy to support such amazing places around San Diego and I look forward to more!

Reservations are encouraged but not mandatory as I saw numerous people get in as walk ins before my reservation. Walk-ins are seated at the bar and limited to 1 hour. For reservations they do not seat early even if you check in early. No dress code, saw people with tube tops and flip flops. They sell lots of different types of alcohol in their store. I purchased a $33 bottle of Amaretto that said it had a cookie essence. Bar Entry: The hostess will check ID and then you sit or stand on the platform and it slowly spins you around to the inside. Bathrooms are on the left and exit on the right. Our server was great and listened to what we wanted in a drink and offered options. Tried: Amuse $4 - we were celebrating a birthday so these were offered as birthday shots. Amaretto sour $18 - very good. Smooth and not too strong. French kiss - very strong. Didn't like this one. Mint mojito mocktail (aka dealers choice) $11 - this was so good and refreshing. I love the atmosphere inside. We were seated in throne like chairs which was very cool. A good speakeasy spot to take friends and dates!

Had to put in our names, as there is only so much space on an early Saturday evening. Took all of 10 minutes before entry was granted. Led inside to a standing room-only table. I probably did the wrong thing and didn't allow the ice packed on top of the swizzle to melt thoroughly enough into the drink to dilute the 151 overproof black Demerara's rum. Nae worries, brah. It's hidden behind Craft & Commerce, and once you step inside, the immersive tiki atmosphere really sets the mood. The decor, lighting, and sound effects all come together to make the experience feel fun and memorable. Just know, if you are hoping to sit down, good luck! A lot of reservations are made in advance. However, at the bar, if you see a reservation sign and they're not there yet, staff will let you sit down once it's time to get up for the reserved party. DRINKS: 9/10 The cocktails were creative, well crafted, and definitely strong enough to make you feel like you were getting your money's worth. I also loved how much attention they put into the presentation. Every drink looked like a piece of art and added to the whole tiki experience. SERVICE: 9/10 The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They took the time to answer questions and made great recommendations without making us feel rushed. AMBIANCE: 10/10 This is easily the highlight of the experience. The entire space is beautifully designed, and every little detail makes it feel like you've escaped into a hidden tropical bar. It's cozy, intimate, and unlike any other place I've been to in San Diego. Reservations are definitely worth making since the space is on the smaller side and fills up quickly. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that, while the experience and ambiance were amazing, the drinks are definitely on the pricier side. I understand you're paying for the craftsmanship and atmosphere, but it's probably not somewhere I'd visit regularly because of that. It's common for tiki bars to be pricey so it was to be expected. Overall, I'm really glad I finally got to experience False Idol. If you're in San Diego and enjoy creative cocktails in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere, I'd definitely recommend checking it out at least once!

His questions guided my indecision towards a Berkshire Old Fashioned that was fantastic despite my fumbling to get there. I love coffee (specifically strong espresso drinks), so I asked for a strong, coffee infused, punchy cocktail, but with a different base of alcohol from the old fashioned. What came out was the best cocktail I will probably ever have in my life. The bourbon cocktail with coffee liqueur (and a number of other garnishes I will never remember) hit the bullseye. Flavorful, strong, bold, delicious all at the same time. Unfortunately (?), this was a noble experiment so I'll forever be chasing the white whale of what this drink was. But that's the allure.

This is such a great spot for a first date, a girls' night out, or simply catching up with friends. One of my favorite parts was exploring the vinyl room, it adds such a fun retro touch. Instead of checking on my well-being or ensuring the aggressor had left the premises, security targeted and chased me as if I were the problem. It is incredibly disappointing and dangerous for a business's security team to lack the basic situational awareness and training required to identify the actual victim in a situation. I felt entirely unprotected by the staff here. I hope management takes this as a serious sign that their security team needs immediate retraining on bystander intervention and de-escalation, rather than harassing women who are already in vulnerable situations.
