I call my son and get the order number and give the number to the server at the door!!! She does nothing with it!!! By this time I am getting a bit upset and a manager comes over!!! After explaining the situation he tells me they are having problems with the app!!! Unless I can show him the order on my phone, which I don't have with me, "I" must've put in the wrong location!!! I tell him I already gave the order number to the girl, which he wasn't aware of!!! I give him the order number and he disappears to take care of it!!! At last I am walking out with my order!!! I've been eating at Shake Shake since it was a hot-dog cart in Madison Sq Park in NYC and have always loved it. The burgers have been juicy and very flavorful. Nothing has ever compared to it. But in the last few months, the burgers have been dry and no longer have that great taste. I have returned several times in the hope that it was just an off day but unfortunately it appears to be a permanent situation. I'm not sure they are using Pat LaFrieda meat in their burgers any longer. I have also noticed this at the Garden State Plaza location in Paramus, NJ as well. Bottom line, $13 and change for fries, a generic dog grilled on a flat top, and a shake. The shake had a flavor that was out of balance, with a somewhat gritty or powered texture. Maybe it needed to be mixed more. Maybe this is why the place is half full at dinner time. When I'm up in Bergen County again, I'll go to The Fireplace, up the road where I don't mind paying a higher than average price for better food on an open flame, that great sliced steak sandwich, and those marvelous pickles that they have. Always a great burger when we come here. They may cost a little more but they taste a lot more great. As always I'm always happy when my wife can finish her burger as I'm more than happy to clean up her plate for her. I wish I could afford to buy the shakes more often but the price is a little high for me. I also need to broaden my horizon I'm trying different burgers but I'm so stuck on my favorite that I can't. Parking here can be a little bit difficult as there's not too many spaces and getting in the driveway can be hard if you don't know exactly what driver you're looking for so be careful driving on the highway when looking for the Shake Shack. Handicap spaces are directly in front of the restaurant, while more parking is in the back of the restaurant. We were lucky to be first in line when they opened their new Boston store and got free burgers as they give them out at all stores on special openings. read more

I'm so glad they opened up this location. The only ones I've been to prior to this opening was the one in Chestnut Hill, MA. I never had the patience to wait on line outside for a burger, so I have not ever been to any of the NYC locations. This place is really great, I'm going to break this down into sections. Food: The burgers here are incredible. They aren't nearly as greasy as Five Guys burgers, but have just as much (if not, more) flavor. I am a huge fan of their Smoke Shack burgers, which consist of cherry pepper sauce and Niman Ranch applewood-smoked bacon. Those ingredients, combined with flawlessly cooked patty and hot but soft bun make for a phenomenal taste sensation. The peppers give it a nice kick (though I wouldn't say it's too hot or spicy), so if that's not your thing then you might be better off with a classic burger. They recently changed the thinner shoestring type fries for thicker ones, which I think was a good choice, as it goes much better with the burgers (imo). Shakes: The milkshakes come in many different flavors, and the ones that I have tried have tasted pretty good (though not the best shakes I've had- Bobby's Burger Palace has much better shakes). I think more than the flavor, I appreciate the consistency of the shakes, which is near perfect, without any chunks of ice cream in there, but also not watery at all. I rarely opt to get a shake with my burger though, since burger + fries + shake would come down to like an $18 dollar total, and I'm pretty cheap (especially when at what is essentially a fast food chain, albeit a higher-end one). Especially considering how small the shake is, and the fact that it's not too special, I usually just stick with soda. Decor: The tables at this location are all made from stripped wood from former bowling lanes, which is both cool, and makes for a sturdy table. I really love how they set this place up. There is plenty of seating available, and it's a great place to dine in. As my friend described it the last time we were there, it's somewhere you can see yourself hanging out with friends and taking your time enjoying your food, even though there is no waiting service. Very different from your run-of-the-mill Burger King or other fast food burger place, where you never really want to sit down or stay longer than you have to. There is a lot of wood here in terms of the interior's concept, but it also feels very modern. Parking: Admittedly, parking here is kind of a b*tch, since there are limited spaces and lots of people during lunch and dinner hours. And since the restaurant is located on Route 17, it's not like you can just drive around the block and wait for a parking space to open up. However, the solution, which I've seen many people use, is drive out of the Shake Shack parking lot, and right into the Verizon parking lot that is literally 10 feet away on the highway, and then walk over to the Shake Shack. Other: The staff is very friendly here, and I have had no real complaints. They are constantly cleaning the place, so despite the huge number of people coming in and out, it is very spotless. Speaking of, if you want to eat here but don't want to wait forever on line, then come on off-hours. Even though the wait is long during the peak hours, it moves fairly quickly (much more so than the NYC locations from what I've seen). The food takes roughly around 8-10 minutes to make and get to you, but it's worth the wait. My only real complaint would be that they have no combo meals here, and you have to buy everything separately. But that seems to be the general trend in these gourmet burger places. CHEEEEEESE FRIES. I always sort of neglected Shake Shack and now I regret it. This location is quite possibly the most annoying highway in New Jersey, Route 17. It's crazy busy and there's always traffic. However, I'm almost positive that this is the only standalone Shake Shack location in New Jersey, so when you feel like having Shake Shack, you pretty much have no other option. I visited here after going to a car dealership up the road. Our order was messed up, they ended up doubling it all together. The associate decided to let us keep the double order since they would throw it out. A few minutes later, a manager came over and started to grab the extra tray from our table, without even saying anything, after we started eating from it already. Very strange experience... but regardless, I spoke to the general manager for the area, Emma, and she was so considerate and kind! She even said that the associate who originally gave us our order was one of the best at that location. I was impressed with Emma's genuine concern. All in all, Shake Shack is pretty awesome. Is it the best burger in the state?Not so sure. But it's pretty damn good... and once again, CHEESE FRIES! read more

Compared to most Shake Shack's in the city, it's great for a change to not have a super long line. It has a relatively open kitchen so you see the cooks in action. The chain delivers consistency for their burgers and shakes. I usually get the Shake Stack or the Shroom burger. The portobello mushroom with melty cheese is my ultimate favorite from the chain. About this location, I'm not sure what it is but the seating area does not feel or look clean. Maybe it is the nature of greasy food but even when there is an employee wiping the tables and holding a broom, they only take care of what's on the surface, like a piece of straw wrapper or a napkin. The customers can detect a layer of oil on the floor tiles as they walk. A lot of family with little kids eat here so a bit more work on the cleanliness would be needed. I was sure they will be little less pricy since they are out of New York, but the prices are still too high. So Shake Shack popped up in Austin Texas but, the line has been so, outrageous I had to wait to be on vacation to try it. I ordered the Shackburger with a side of fries, red velvet milkshake and a half lemonade half tea. The half and half was way too sweet so, I had to mix it down with some regular tea. The Shackburger was surprisingly good and had a buttery flavor in the meat. The fries were just regular fries and I don't even want to know how many calories are in that sinful milkshake. I got to take a bite of my guys Shroom Burger and wow it blew my mind but, I don't think I would be able to eat a whole one if I ordered it myself since it was so rich. Since we were there quite early (around 5:30 on a Saturday night), we didn't have to wait on line, and easily got a table and parking. Fresh and delicious ingredients. Shake shack in my opinion, is better than Habit burger, Smash Burger, Sonic, Checkers, Wendy's, Five Guys, (by a little) and In-n-Out. If you are craving a juicy burger look no further than the standard double with cheese. If you desire something with a kick, have a bacony "smokeshack" burger. One word: SALTY I don't mean, fast food, eating out salty. I mean extremely. I had a cheeseburger with bacon and fries with the cheese on them. I forced myself to finish the burger because I had been bugging my husband to go there since before they even opened. The fries were basically untouched that's how painfully salty they were. I even began to experience heart palpitations, while I was still there. I had my 2 year old with me and I ordered him a hot dog, since they are nitrate and nitrite free. He didn't even want it. It was dry and stiff. Everything was just so salty I didn't even let him eat any of our fries. The dumbest part of it is that they have a one or two item "dog menu", but yet they didn't even have a kids menu that offers something in smaller portions. Are you kidding me? They're going to offer something for animals that aren't even legally allowed in there, but there were at least 15 other small children in there and I am pretty sure I wasn't alone in my thoughts to think "Why the heck don't they have a kids menu if they have a dogs menu?!?" Anyway, my husband and I were both greatly disappointed and decided a quarter way through our meal that we'd never return. It was a huge waste of money for something so salty that it got me and him sick. There are places out there with way better burger quality and taste that don't pack on that salt. Don't assume that you will come to Shake Shack, get a full meal with dessert, and spend $5, you will be wrong. I've heard from many a New Yorker that Shake Shack is so cheap, it's reasonable, not cheap. That being said. The burgers are awesome, juicy & meaty, not processed tasting; the fries are crisp and hot; the cheese sauce is super flavorful, umami explosion; the concretes are pretty delicious too. I don't know why the reviews are so poor of this location. I do think the whole Shake Shack enterprise has become a tad overhyped, however, after years of not going and only going to the NYC and Miami locations, I just had to try the Paramus location so conveniently located right on the highway. Being a long-time vegetarian, I had only had the stuffed mushroom burger before (soooo good yet so bad) and the concretes (which were way too sweet for me at the time). So I decided to venture out of my comfort zone and get a .... burger! Not just any burger, one with smoked caramelized onions and bacon and cheese and shack sauce. This may have been one of the best burgers of my vegetarian life. It was on the small size and pricier than I would've liked but that comes with the territory and is expected. You MUST get the cheese fries, which are covered in a homemade sauce of 3 cheeses. Even my hubby scarfed them down and he has never liked cheese sauce or cheese fries. They were so perfectly crispy, makes me want to go back now. And then, yes, you HAVE to get the Christmas cookie shake! I didn't want another overly sweet and thick concrete, so the shakes are much better and while still sweet, easier to drink. This one is perfectly flavored, tastes like cookie dough and has these awesomely amazing chunky cookie sprinkles in red & green. I really cannot wait for my next visit. Both of us were stuffed and for well under $30 this was quite a magically delicious albeit very unhealthy dinner. Forget the Shack Hater reviews, this NJ outpost of the burger mecca is the real deal. I purposely stayed away (as hard as that was to do) for a few months to allow them to work the kinks out, and work them out they did. I visited tonight (Saturday) around 6 pm. Let's start out with the parking situation. When you pull off 17 south into the SS lot, there are orange cones leading you to the back. Weird, but ok, fine. Then you see a gentleman that is either going to valet your car or direct traffic. Sadly, it was the latter. They have someone directing traffic, because the parking is pretty bad. Not enough spaces for the capacity of the restaurant. Luckily, it took only 2 minutes or so for me to find a spot. I take 1 star away for the parking experience. Please work that out SS. ORDERING: The ordering set up is similar to the NYC locations, though I was unsure whether there was a "C Line" for custard and concretes. Because of this, we ordered our custard with the rest of our food. The line moves fairly fast and, for the uninitiated, the entire menu is on the wall. I waited less than 5 minutes until I reached the front, so not too bad. The cashier was really nice guy, who worked fast and repeated my order to ensure accuracy. They happened to be running a custard promo that included a mini SS football. Being a collector of mini footballs, I asked the cashier if there was any way I could get one even though I wasn't ordering the custard pint; I even offered to pay for the ball. He checked with his manager and tossed me the ball and said no charge. So a special shout out to Porforio Lopez, who exemplified the great customer service I've come to expect at SS. For this, I give the one star back for a perfect 5! FOOD: It took 5-7 minutes for our food to be ready. We had a double Shack Burger (juicy goodness, oozing with cheese and Shack Sauce and fresh lettuce/tomato), a single burger with Shack Sauce, fries (well-cooked and nicely salted), and a vanilla concrete with truffled chocolate chip cookie dough (smooth and velvety deliciousness). The restaurant is large and, unlike in the NYC locations, it wasn't a problem finding a table. The restaurant was very clean and well-staffed. I couldn't be happier to have a SS in NJ. I'd give this 4.5 if I could, I patiently waited for this to finally open after hearing rave reviews from city dweller friends who always bragged about how awesome it was. Tried this place I think 3 times and all 3 were consistent experiences which is always good. shakes are small but thick and very good, burgers are melt in your mouth good, you can tell the meat they use is a better grade than most fast food restaurants and you pay for it but I'd rather pay a little extra and have a delicious burger, fries are just OK nothing special about them. Burger, fries and a shake is roughly about 15 bucks, I guess for quality in this area that's nothing crazy. Definitely worth checking out, believe the hype..this spot is definitely tasty! read more

Ok firstly, these burgers are the perfect size, you can easily finish one and maybe even eat half another one. I debated between the Smoke Shack or Shack Stack....and I decided on the Shack Stack and I wish I didn't. There was absolutely no flavor in my burger, in my mushroom patty, in anything! I went with someone who RAVES about shake shack and I felt bad for not liking this place, as I know others swear by their burgers. We also shared cheese fries and they were ehh. One thing I can say is I can tell the quality is top notch....and I love that. I want to be eating 100% meat not fillers and here you can taste the quality. I've been highly anticipating Shake Shack since I first heard it was opening and replacing Stacks Pancake (which totally sucked). Well, I had it last night and I feel "A-OK" is the best way to describe it. The burgers are VERY thin, comparable to a McDonalds burger. I had the SmokeShack burger which was tasty but I couldn't help feeling like "this is it?" My friend and I each had a single burger and split an order of french fries and we were still hungry after we finished. I probably should've ordered a double burger even though I've never had to at any other burger place. Their cheese fries were great. I love crispy french fries. They're thin cut, with some skin and a little more on the well done side. You have to pay for drink refills too. Shake Shack which made it's reputation in New York City's Madison Square Park has probably the best burgers to offer in Jersey. Their beef is 100% Angus meat and their cows are raised without hormones, anti-biotics and GMOs (genetically modified organisms - Mmm, yummy) so you know you're getting a quality burger. The burgers are extremely tasty and their shakes and custards are delicious as well. Their fries I'm not that crazy about but that's just me. Overall, a great place for a delicious meal but know that they're pretty expensive as compared to every other burger option in the area. My meal last night of a double cheeseburger, cheese beef hot dog, chocolate shake and my wife's double burger w/ mushroom burger, lemonade and fries cost $32. I normally eat pretty lean (which sounds like bull considering what we ordered) but if I do decide to indulge in a nice juicy burger every month or so I'd certainly choose one from Shake Shack over anywhere else nearby. read more

We have been wanting to try Shake Shack since they opened. We were in the area, early on a quiet Thursday so we hoped to avoid the crowds we heard about. It was quiet and we're greeted by a very nice gentleman who gave us menus to read while we waited on line order. The menu isn't large, six burgers, two chicken and a few hot dog options plus fries. The emphasis is equally on the Shakes and frozen custard.. Hubby and I both got the Shack Stack, a crisp fried portabello filled with elted Muenster and cheddar atop a cheeseburger. They only cook the burger medium or more but it was surpringly juicy and tasty for a medium burger. The fries were good but not hot when we picked them up. Hubby loved his chocolate shake. I thought my burger was good, but not outrageous. The meat was tasty, nice presentation, fresh toppings. This is a cute fun place and th6e staff is great but I don't know if I would make a special trip to brave Route 17 and what we heard is a very crowded parking lot. I couldn't help indulging in a little dessert. A small cup of frozen vanilla custard with salted caramel sauce and dark chocolate chunks. Ok, this was very very yummy and worth the trip. Other mix ins are Chocolate truffle cookie dough (definitely next time) chocolate toffee, strawberry puree, fudge sauce, peanut butter sauce, marshmallow sauce, and banana. Nice extra -5% of the sales their Bergen County Blend custard supports Children's Aid and Family Services in Northern New Jersey. Very nice Shake Shack. The custard is worth coming back for. About time they opened up a Shake Shack in NJ!! I've eaten at Shake Shack in Madison Square Park numerous times and always left happy. The menu at the Paramus location is the same that you would find at most other Shake Shack locations. They do the fresh cut fries here, which I am not a fan of when compared to the crinkle cut fries they used to serve. The concept is simple. When you walk in they have two lines, a C line (only for ordering shakes), and a full service line. Just because the C line is empty, do not believe that you outsmarted the other 20-30 people waiting in the full service line. They will send you to the back of the full service line. Once you order, they will give you a pager. Just go find a table to sit at. I saw a lot of people standing around the pick up area, and honestly it just made it very hectic to walk around. When your order is ready the pager starts to blink red and vibrate. Head to the pick up area where your food will be ready to pick up. Tip: Do not park in the Verizon Wireless parking lot. They will tow your car. There is a water spout with plastic cups next to the condiments area, so no need to ask for a cup of water when ordering your food. read more

Although I am trying to cut red meat out of my diet for the most part, burgers are a huge weakness of mine. That being said, Shake Shack definitely makes the best burgers I've ever tasted. I find myself craving them often. The fries and shakes are tasty as well, but the meat is so delicious! The quality of the meat is something I've never experienced before and it saddens me that I'm going to have to cut back on it due to changing my diet lol. I definitely prefer this location to the one in Garden State Plaza as I just feel that the food tastes better here. All the joys of Shake Shack without the hassle of waiting in an endless line of New Yorkers! This one is just for us, New Jersey. (Of course, the tradeoff for that endless line of hungry hipsters is the bumper-to-bumper midday traffic of Route 17, but what can you do? At least waiting in your car is better than waiting on a sidewalk, amirite?) The parking lot is smaller than it should be, so keep that in mind as you head over. You might have to do some circling. I luckily found a spot right away, but I saw several cars hopelessly wandering the lot. Shake Shack's insides resemble a nicer NY location. The line is immediately to your right when you enter, and it's winding -- but fast-moving. The menu is up on the wall, along with ice cream flavors & doggie treats (though the dog snacks make more sense in NYC; not many people in Jersey travel to restaurants with their dogs in the car). There's a good amount of seating -- we were worried that with the lunch crowd, we wouldn't find anything, but we found a booth fairly quickly. In comparison to the NYC locations, this place is a ballroom! The dining room is super relaxed, with nice wood-paneled walls, thick wood tables, & comfortable chairs. I ordered a normal Hamburger with lettuce & tomato, a side of Hand-cut Fries, and a Root Beer Float. Most of my coworkers ordered more elaborate burgers and shakes. We traveled with one vegetarian & one gluten-free, and they were able to accommodate both (with a Veggie Burger and Shack-cago Dog, respectively). My order got buzzed within about 10 minutes (they have those hand-held buzzers), and it was delicious! The side of fries is delicious & definitely big enough to share. My burger was pretty good for being the "plainest" you can get -- I definitely felt satisfied & it was the perfect size for me. And the burger is delicious on its own. I was able to control myself to a single patty, but I might not have that willpower next time! And my root beer float absolutely hit the spot! Pro tip: they have normal spoons AND float spoons at the fixins bar -- highly recommended! All in all, we were a happy, satisfied bunch. I love this place. I get the TRIPLE cheeseburger with no Bun- I tell them I am Gluten-Free and they put me in as allergic to Gluten and they try not to kill me... My Girlfriend also loves this place for the Burgers as well. She gets the bun and we noticed they use Martin's Potato Buns and that is one of the best buns in the Business. We usually get the Milkshakes and the lemonade. They make a daily Milkshake that is pretty good. We prefer Bobby's Burgers Milkshakes, but the Burgers here are the best against most of the Burger Chains. Note: Make sure you tell them you want fresh hot fries or else you will get cold fries that sit under a heat lamp. I hate when the Fries aren't hot. The special sauce is ok. You can order more, but they might charge you .50... Bring your Wallet, this isn't a cheap Burger Joint.... read more

It's that common sense thing that's missed on some people. If you can hold off on going until the lunch crowd dies down, I would. That's not to say they aren't speedy and efficient, they definitely are. I was impressed by their selection, their attention to my order and making sure they got it right. I did the cheeseburger and cheese fries with a coffee shake....because I felt like being disgusting for a change. The burger was fantastic, in my mind it was elevated over a few other places I've been to locally. The fries were ok, nothing to write home about. The cheese sauce was pretty fantastic though. The shake wasn't huge, which is a plus, because you don't want to go right for an angioplasty after lunch. I'm definitely hooked, but I will say that there is one bad thing. Their "to go" version of things isn't great. They just put it in a cardboard tray in a bag, they don't wrap it up or anything...so it will get cold. One word: Yummo! This review will be brief. Oh my goodness. Shake Shack Paramus is incredible. I've been to two Shake Shacks before, both in New York City, and this one is simply the best. I mean, at least there's place to walk around and sit instead of being crushed inside like a sardine. Here's my tip: If you're going to eat at Shake Shack, do not go during peak hours. If you do, there will be a huge line to get into the parking lot or an enormous wait inside. I wait for nothing and no one. No food is worth me standing on a ginormous line and then stalking people to steal their table. So I try to go either early in the morning or some random time like 3:12. This is why I knock off a star. Maybe that's not fair because the food is excellent, but it's simply not worth the, "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" "Yay! I'm a fan" is sufficient. (And maybe after posting this review there will be mobs of people at 3:12. I may have just messed up my system. Oops.) If you like the crinkle fries they have in New York, well you won't find them here. They have regular kind of skinny fries (I'm not a crazy foodie. No idea what these kind of fries are called.) which I think are pretty tasty. Go with the classic. Get the Shack Burger. This place is called "Shake Shack" but I'm not really a huge fan of their shakes. Heck, I don't even like burgers! The food was just ok. Nothing was really hot, just luke warm. I had a shack burger & my husband had a smokestack double & we shared cheese fries. The burgers had very little flavor. The best part was the bun. Rather go to 5 guys. About the same price but food is made to order & hot. The fries are 100 times better and you get way more. I know shake shack cooks supposedly when you order but it seemed they were cooking in anticipation of the rush. Not impressed, especially because we love Danny Meyer's restaurants. read more

I feel like I eat here every sunday but you know what I'm ok with that. I'm a big fan of their burgers and I'm not really someone who goes crazy for them either but I think its the shack sauce that keeps me coming back for more. I ordered my usual bacon cheese burger but went crazy and decided to order the same but with onion oh my! It was delisious but they put a tomatoe on the burger and I hate tomatoes. I just picked it off and kept it moving. If anyone likes pickle they have really good ones here I like to order them on the side, I think they are deli pickels that they slice on the slicer for a super thin cut! Hype, in a word. Being a vegetarian, I should have no place in an eatery with offerings as this place has. Still, my Chennington wanted to try it, so...here goes: The vibe was good with very masculine styling: dark tones, wood, & industrial style lighting. Clearly it was a younger crowd with most patrons in their 20s during this visit. Service was quick and tight, and the short line moved quickly. Pricing was up there and moderate, for sure. Our meal topped out at $30 for the two of us. Now, the food...meh. Quite unmemorable. We got the vegetarian option, which was looking good...too bad the taste didn't match up with its spiffy appearance. Bland, devoid of any seasoning at all, trying to be something different. It was a super thin sliver of portobello mushroom, just one slice. Some flavorless, gooey cheese was added, and the whole mess was breaded in unseasoned breadcrumbs. What came to us was a croquette-like puck that was hollow after the cheese came gushing out after the first bite. I guess the beef must be the draw here. The fries were just fries. We got a plain and one with cheese sauce. Nothing exciting. The small caramel shake was good and rich, and the small cola tasted like, well...cola.
