My wife and I came to this Shakey to celebrate one of her cousin birthday since this is his favorite place. We arrived early because we were going to be a big party and I saw parking is limited here. When we came, we were lucky to find a spot right in the front and they were not busy yet. My wife ordered the ultimate PCM which is 2 15in one topping large pizza, 8 piece golden fried chicken and mojo potatoes. She also did the large PCM option too which is 1 large 15in one topping pizza, 8 piece golden fried chicken and mojo potatoes. For the pizza toppings she chose one with pepperoni and mushrooms, the other pizza as Hawaiian and the last pizza with just pepperoni. They made all of our order quick and I just went to pick it up when the pager started buzzing. I'm not a big fan of Shakey but my wife cousin enjoyed it. They have self serve soda machine, I wanted to get cherry coke but it wasn't working properly so I just got a coke. I called in an order for pickup on a Tuesday evening around 6:30pm. When I arrived, I was surprised by how many people were dining inside for a Tuesday. There was no line at the register and the cashier greeted me right away and asked for the name on the order. This Shakey's Pizza Parlor has been around for as long as I can remember. It definitely has been through a few remodeling but it's still delivers the service. The prices are reasonable. The pizza is nice and thin and not too greasy. The mojos and chicken are fried just right. Food was good. But if you're ADA ( handicapped). You won't be able to use restroom. Especially if you use a walker or wheelchair. Totally not ADA compliant. I had to hold it til I got home. Not high quality, but honestly... that's part of the charm. Food-wise: exactly what you expect. The pizza has that classic "cardboard-ish" texture we all grew up with, and the pasta isn't anything special but if you set your expectations right, it hits the spot. My 2 orders of chicken was very over cooked. Unhappy I took back one of the boxes. The manager replaced one box, the other could not be replaced because it had already been eaten. This is my 3rd review here, I come here thinking it's going to change. The receptionist in the front, the heaviest set girl with the glasses. Has the worst attitude with her customers. It makes me so sad to think about the fact that Shakey's was established in Sacramento and flourished in the valley and Bay Area alike from the 50's or 60's into the 80's, and now you have to travel quite a distance to enjoy bunch of lunch and those most delicious mojo potatoes! In any case, stopping at Shakey's for lunch on a long road trip made for a great day! The pizza, mojos, spaghetti, fried chicken, and salad bar are like I remember from 50 years ago. The fried chicken was moist and juicy and was absolutely great! What's different from my childhood is they offer mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, and macaroni and cheese. My five year old was super happy with these new options. The staff was friendly and helpful, not to mention hard working. They kept the tables cleared and cleaned and did a good job of keeping up. I usually go to the Shakey's in East Los, and today I can really say I noticed the difference in the people working there. The women at the front counter -- the ones handling the charges -- are especially rude and dismissive. Instead of greeting customers or showing basic courtesy, they come across as unfriendly and unprofessional, which makes the whole experience less enjoyable. It's disappointing because the food is fine, but when the first impression at the register is so negative, it overshadows everything else. What a great place to grab a quick buffet lunch at a very reasonable price. They have a very good spread to pick from, even for people who do not eat pork like myself they have vegetarian and beef options. Can't say enough about the mojo potatoes. I think those are everybody's favorite. The line moves pretty quickly for people pain to get in, then your hand to the plate, and you find your own way. The restaurant is a little crowded, but they can have multiple parties at one time which I understand. It reminds me of eating at a sports bar with all the TVs that are on the walls. I want to commend Alex for outstanding counter customer service. I was at Shakeys Sylmar to pick up a to go order. As soon as I got to the counter Alex noticed me, stopped what he was doing, and quickly came over to me with a smile and asked how could he help me. It was the first time my daughter and I have been to this location. The service was great, the games were on, it was very clean. I took my daughter to the arcade. It was empty so we got to have fun by ourselves! Finally it was time to turn in her tickets. She got 400 and of course wanted something a little out of her ticket range. lol. It's Shakey's! Being a Shakey's my expectations weren't very high. Considering this location is in Sylmar, it is surprisingly clean. It's not too terribly expensive as compared to say a Chuck E Cheese and they don't have as many arcade machines but we had the Large PCM and a side of tenders which was way more than enough for 3 adults and 4 kids. The staff was friendly, food didn't take too long to come out. We saw staff cleaning up after people left. They were on top of it. Will def go back for bunch-a-lunch as that's what I miss the most. Parking can be an issue seeing as there's a Rok N Sushi and Italian restaurant sharing the same parking lot but we had no issues with parking on a Wednesday late afternoon. read more
