We've lived here for 8 years and have experienced how much better life has become after Sequoias management. They do regular social events, have a beverage bar available for free, a great gym and quality employees. The team of James, Katelyn, Alex and Ben has the office and maintenance running at 100%. Never a wait for maintenance! Katelyn and James personally have gone the extra mile when my husband and I have had health problems at different times. We have no family in the area and they've been above job duties to help us! We decided not to own again in California because we were burned by a bad HOA. I absolutely love living here. I've lived here for a year and a half and have never had a problem with Shaliko or Sequoia. They've always been so helpful and compassionate with rent, maintenance requests, and fixing amenities. They also have super fun events and free cold brew in the club house. They've seriously got a whole coffee bar in there with syrups, whipped cream, and cold foam! The office staff are super nice and always say hello. Would definitely recommend Shaliko. read more

Ellisha Hunt, our Community Manager, is a "Diamond in the Rough" and wears so many hats, it's hard to keep up with her. She runs the office, finds tenants for the apartments and then deals with their joy or their grievances. She takes care of any and all repairs; i.e., spa, swimming pool, apartments, and still finds time to deal with vendors, and have buildings painted, etc. I just recently read that she will have a concrete company repair the pathways that need it, which will be a good thing for me because I manage to trip over anything that is uneven. This manager has even found ways of bringing her tenants together by throwing a barbecue and a Valentine's party this past year. I know dealing with people every day can be very hard, but I see Ellisha handling her job and people with kindness and respect. Let's all replay it back because she really is good at what she does. Refused to provide rental verification for a third party property management company when trying to apply to a different residence. Crime and odd/suspicious activity has heightened within the last six months unfortunately, has typically been a relatively mellow apartment complex up until recently. It's a safety concern. Shaliko has been awesome since Sequoia Equities purchased the property last year. I've been here for just short of 5 years now and the difference between the property now and 5 years ago is night and day. The new owners have done so much to improve the property and it's amenities from completely renovating units, to renovating the gym and so much more. During this time of the Covid-19 crisis the management here has really stepped up to help out. They have made sure to work with any and all residents that have been faced with unforeseen layoffs or other financial struggle because of this pandemic. They have even done cool things like buying lunch for every resident that wanted it and even a super fun virtual paint night with the canvases and paint supplies provided at no cost. I've lived in apartments for the past 18 years and Shaliko now is by far the best I've experienced yet. The staff here are all very easy to work with and always available to help out. I continue to love living here and under new management it has become that much more enjoyable. Staff has always been responsive and have improved in that aspect too. Just finished installing water saving faucets and Nest thermostats. They are also working to upgrade the grounds clearing older brush and replacing with growing plants. Front office folks have been a tremendous improvement as they seem to put a high value on the residents. Improved helpfulness and greater than ever customer service. The units are very clean and modern and the landscape looks a very well taken care of. It is also located in a great neighborhood, with plenty of stuff to do. Worst place ever! The management staff blows smoke up your butt while they do nothing about your concerns. This property is a crime riddled, drug infested college student playground. Many times I have brought issues up about the security company that is supposed to watch the complex only to be blown off. Maybe if they were one of the ones that have had something of high value stolen they would do something about it. I had a meeting with both the manager and the asst. manager. I was told that security was to be on the property four times a night and to walk the property for about 15 minutes each time. I personally watched them drive around twice while on their cell phone. The total time they were here was 5 minute and they never returned the rest of the night. Here you have college kids smoking pot right out in the open. You tell the manager and nothing gets done about it. I am constantly lied to about them taking care of my concerns. I warn you DO NOT MOVE HERE!! If you do You will be sorry. If you like the college party, noisy, fraternity, pot smoking atmosphere then this is the place for you. I pay way to much to live at a property like this. Because I have rented my entire adult life, it's important to me (and my partner) that we live in a place that feels like 'home.' We found that here at Shaliko. We have been at Shaliko for just over a year (after living in San Francisco for 10 years). The place is beautiful. The grounds are well-kept with lovely trees and gorgeous landscaping. The amenities are all first-class. Nice pool, dry sauna, fitness center, hot tub, racket ball courts, and more. The club house is really nice and available for use for private parties or small events (I've used it twice). We live in a two-bedroom/two-bath unit. We have a washer, dryer, dishwasher, fireplace, air conditioner (didn't have that in SF). The floor plan works really well. We also rent a garage for one of our vehicles. The management and maintenance team have been great. Anytime we've had a minor issue, they've been really responsive. Our apartment and appliances have only needed very minor repairs. The location is great. It is close to Sierra College, so there are a number of college students who live in the complex. Even so, we've never had any issues with excessive noise or anything that I feel would hinder my quiet enjoyment of my home. On those rare occasions when tenants are 'out of hand,' I can tell you they are not a problem for long. Warning letters are sent out and people are evicted. Like any apartment complex or shared living situation, there can be very,very minor annoyances. But, they are same issues that would arise anywhere. Growing up in a small town in a nice neighborhood, there were times when we could hear music from a neighbor's house or had to deal with a summer barbecue that lasted past 10. Neighbor's guests would park in front of our house and take up space that we felt was "ours." From time to time, the neighbor's dog would "water" our tree or "fertilize" our yard. The only way to avoid such issues is to live as a hermit. So...in a nutshell... WE LOVE SHALIKO. The people are friendly. Our neighbors are actually friendly. The grounds are beautiful. It has being 3 weeks and nobody can help me it's either someone on vacation or they are on their day off.. We have lived here thru 3 apartment managers and 2 different property management companies. The current property management and property manager are seriously AMAZING! The staff always treats you with love respect and care. You are not just a number here. The apartments are kept up and constantly improving. The fitness center is AHHHHMAZING! Hi. My husband and I moved here in 2015. The apartment management needed some improvements. I felt as it we were being nicke and dimed to death. We were contemplating moving when our lease was up in 2019. But, without anyone's knowledge, the property was sold. Would have been nice to have known in advance, but, that's how the old property management worked. So, if anyone is looking for a new home, PLEASE DON'T RELY ON. ANY REVIEWS BEFORE MAY 2019! That was ALL the old property management's fault and they sucked. No was happy! But, since the property has been bought by Sequoia, things have DRASTICALLY changed. The entire staff is wonderful! We still have the same maintenance team, so they know the place. It's just now they can get things done that the old management didn't want to pay for. They were so cheap! It started feeling like they were slum lords. BUT, THE NEW PROPERTY MANAGEMENT TEAM IS PHENOMENAL TO SAY THE LEAST! These guys go way above and beyond what is expected! Sequoia is putting a bunch of money into this place and it has made all the difference! These guys aren't cheap either. When anythings needs to be replaced the maintenance staff can actually replace it! The old property management made them rig things to ensure that no money was spent. The old management would provide breakfast or lunch and it was always bagged crap!! Sequoia had one heck of a great BBQ to introduce themselves! Recently, when all of this Corona Virus hit and we were all told to stay home, Sequoia bought everyone pizza! Not cheap pizza either. They actually spent money and got us all Round Table. Absolutely every time I have called for any issues since Sequoia took over, it only takes 1 call to get the problem fixed! Oh my god, the old property management would take forever and I had to call multiple times! My husband and I have now fallen back in love with Shaliko! I picked this place because of how beautiful it is. Now, my husband and I have decided to retire here. I forgot to mention, we came with our son who was only 14 at the time. Yes, he still lives with us because he loves the area and the apartment has more than enough room. I also chose this place because it is quiet and very family friendly! One of the best parts is that Shaliko apartments is also doggie and cat friendly! They even provide the poopoo bags! Guys, I can't sell this place enough! The old property management, if they hadn't sold the place, would have ruined everything! But, with the new property management, Sequoia, this place has seriously taken steps in the right direction and it is up. I enthusiastically give them a five star rating! The place is pretty well kept up, the basketball backboard is about the only thing that could use some help. HOWEVER there are alot of college kids here and management/ownership is very liberal in letting them get away with noise. Had we known this prior we would have reconsidered moving here, for upper end rent prices you should not have to deal with a bunch of inconsiderate college kids, its a big issue and after speaking to the on site manager you get the feeling the owner is all about the money over taking care of the issue. Also parking sucks you get one spot and the aforementioned college kids are living 4 or more to an apt each with their own car, well you can do the math on that.......if your a family looking for a place stay away. read more

Darly is AMAZING, I can't imagine if she wasn't here how things would be. First time renting an apartment unfortunately the reason it didn't get a 4/5 star from me was because when I went to move in the apartment I was assigned to it was Not as I was told or shown, it delayed our unpacking and settling in WAY longer than expected, that then interfering with our schedule, BUT!!! They put in flooring as I was expecting it to be 2 business days later and a new dish washer. Some little bumps but I can work them out myself. Darly was vary apologetic on our entire move in experience and went above and beyond to getting things resolved in a timely matter. Most of these things that happened she was unaware of from the original person that had shown me a unit and started the process. So thank you Darly for trying to do what you could for me & my kids. So far we have been here 3 weeks, it's going pretty good. :) hoping our time here goes good rest of our lease. UPDATE 9*19*17- coming to the end of my lease here, things got better but the only thing was my calls I had to make to security due to the above tenants. I have lived here for nearly 2 years. At move in, there were dirty needles in the spare bathroom and other toiletries in the drawers. Several things such as the sliding glass door to the patio amongst other areas of the apartment were not move in ready. Their was marinara or some sort of red substance that was splattered on the ceiling and wall of the kitchen that was from the previous tenant. I have more to say about the move in conditions like stove fixtures never fitting properly even after being so called fixed. I had put in a work order at move in. Nothing, a few months later, another, and I was told it will take about a month since they just completed walk through and there were a lot of orders put in. Another couple months I said something again and they didn't have anything on file for my requests. I gave up after awhile. Then finally, over a year later, I got a few things fixed. One being the spare bathroom toilet that would run 24/7. Turned out, it was a cheap temporary fix. So I put in another order and alas it was fixed. When they they were fixing the stove top, I was told they don't normally change the foils but they changed 2 of the four but the only one I can use that has the least amount of smoking when I cook, is STILL crooked. I tell myself, people are worse off and to not be so picky, but I pay a lot of money to have these things taken care of for me. That's the point of renting vs owning. The smoking from other tenants is a problem and the company doesn't care. They put out notices but nothing ever changes. The noise from other tenants car stereos are not cool. Loud thumping that I can feel my apartment vibrate. One day it was a 1/2 before I complained. It was during the day and the guy was cleaning the inside of his vehicle listening to music. I love music, but not when it wakes up your sick kid and sick self even with a sound machine on. Too many disrespectful selfish tenants who live here. I've lived in other complexes and never experienced such adolescent behavior from adults ranging from 20's to 50's in age. This complex has a mixture of families, single parents, and lots of college students. The rules need to be strictly one way or the other to make all tenants satisfied. Meaning, students on one side of the complex or be more strict with the noise level and either no smoking at all enforced or create a designated area for the smokers. The smoker below me smokes in his apartment sometimes too and I can smell it through the vents. When I moved in, my son was 2 1/2. He's 4 1/2 now. That's two years of development with his growing lungs. And kids get sick a lot. I like to have my window open at night for cool fresh air as recommended by doctors and paramedics and I can't, because of the smoker downstairs and where does smoke go? UP. Right into my apartment. I can't enjoy sitting or spending time on my patio because of the smoke. It's maddening. In regards to the younger tenants; I can relate to because I was in my 20's once upon a time. But telling me to go suck their dick because it's hard and laughing about it with their peers at midnight after asking them to keep it down is unacceptable. Btw, there were about 15 people outside near my apartment hanging out drinking and socializing like they were at a party. I'm not a difficult person but I do feel it's not out of the ordinary to expect a fairly quiet later evening past 10pm on any day. With all of this and more, valet garbage pick up is a mandatory with a pick up charge of $35 even though the dumpster is 100 feet away. So you're paying valet plus an additional garbage fee. Again, both mandatory. There's no regular security patrol either. You have to call them and they never show up until nothing has happened for a couple hours. This place is not worth the rent amount of over $1700 a month for a 2 bedroom 2 bath. Also, most complex's offer a free rug cleaning or something at the 1 year anniversary. I wasn't offered anything but an increase in rent. I'm looking forward to leaving. read more

Lived here for a few years. It's a nice area, and quiet. However the management of the apartments are horrible. The apartments have been under construction since DEC '12 and ongoing probably until the end of the year (getting a facelift to the outside of the buildings). Construction starts at 8 in the morning, and goes until 4-5pm in the afternoon. I'd like to think I'm fairly understanding, about the noise which was certainly annoying, but having people in your house at 8 in the morning, when you just got a letter on your the night before at 6 pm (less than 24 hour notice) is ridiculous. Before that, we got a notice on a Friday saying we would not be able to use our front walk area on the following Monday and Tuesday. We called and asked if we would be able to leave our apartment, and we were told we could, we just had to be careful. Well, that was bad information. On Monday, we had our front porch removed (being on the second floor makes that a problem) so we could not leave our apartment. A little late to make arrangements to stay somewhere else at that point, so we could get to work. There was a total of 4 days, that if we didnt leave the apartment at 8am in the morning, we would not be able to leave until after 2pm in the afternoon. I'm lucky my wife and I had PTO with my job, or it could have cost me a good amount of money. The only compensation was 10% off 1 months rent (construction went on for 3 months on our unit). When we called to complain about all this, I told them I was understanding about construction, but we need more notice, and more accurate information. I was told by the office that, by law, all they are required to do is give us 24 hours notice (which they didnt always even do). I was also told that the only way I dont have to deal with construction is to own my own home. I was basically told too bad, deal with it. Now for the icing on the cake. Our lease agreement came up, and once again, they wanted to raise our rent. (The apartments tried to raise our rent EVERY time our agreement came up). Well, normally they would negotiate, but this time we were told there would be no negotiation. They were doing construction, and not going to consider discussing the increase in rent. Did I mention they damaged our AC pipes during construction just as it was starting to get hot. We have no Air conditioning. And they wanted to raise our rent... There are lot of other little things that have just added up over the years, but these were the things I considered when deciding to stay. Needless to say, we gave our 30 days and moved. We probably would have moved sooner, if moving wasnt such a huge pain. So TLDR version: - They try to raise your rent every time your lease comes up, and tell you its part of the industry. - You will pay 70-80 dollars a month in trash and water. (the less people in the complex the more you pay). They dont charge for what you actually use rather by how many people live there and they water the grass when it rains. (just one of those things that annoys you when you are paying way too much for water). If you look at the bill there are lots of fees, including a $10 admin fee. There is even a fee for paying your bill online. (we pay $25 a month total for trash and water at our new apartment) - They are horrible about communication. See construction rant. - They really dont care about you, once you move in. The only positive is the maintenance lead. Jose was a nice guy, and good at fixing the little quirks that the apartment had and was fairly timely. read more

Don't rent here!!! I had to break my lease due to a work relocation. To break a lease you have to pay at least $2700 bucks!!! That's what my lease break agreement said anyway. I just received my move out paperwork and they are trying to get another $400 out of me!! For some reason they won't give me any money back from my $900 deposits which I was told that I would get back! To top all of that off, the office manager told me that she would send me copies of specific papers that I asked for, and I didn't receive them. I am only giving a review now that they have a new manager, Darly, she's amazing. She definitely deserves a great review compared to previous management. I've had no trouble or issues since she's returned to the property and any small items I've needed help with like maintenance are addressed super quick. The property has been recently renovated and looks completely modern. I've seen people complaining about the parking situation and I'm not sure why, the parking lot is super well lit and the community seems really vigilant and alert, I've never had any issues nor have I seen anything like what's discussed in previous comments. This property is one of the nicest I've rented with and the rates are extremely reasonable compared with what you get in other communities. I love this place and the manager! read more

This apartment complex is under construction so you will be subjected to LOUD noise all day, rude construction workers, workers parked in your reserved parking space, and worst of all, management that will illegally enter your apartment whenever they want to. The entire complex is a mess of construction and noise and you cannot even drive in and out of the complex during the week. Worst management I've ever experienced. I would give Shaliko zero stars, and I'm counting the days until I can move. Truly awful!!! read more
