My 3rd visit here, I wanted to get my nose re-pierced 2 yrs of it being closed. The new guidelines to enter is easy to follow, text then wait and you come in with a mask on. There is so many cute selections for nose piercing. I was having a hard time deciding. Jade is so friendly and explained the process, even though I've been through this before with her it was good to hear it again. It was quick and painless. Everyone in the shop was so nice! You can walk in and just feel that they're a welcoming place. Frank pierced my tragus and replaced my rook which was pierced previously by another person at a different shop which did not inform me very much about it. Frank was SO informative and welcoming, and while he was piercing me was also going step by step with their apprentice to teach her good methods! Shaman Body Mod. was a nice place to get a piercing but the after the fact is not a good experience. I got my triple piercings in March. My left ear on 3/10, and the right on 3/17. On 3/22 my right ear piercing fell out. (Both earrings were screw backs). On 3/28 my left piercing fell out. Each trip I spent hundreds of dollars for jewelry that should last forever. It is a boutique studio, so pricing is matching of the atmospher; however, when you spend this much on jewelry and piercing, you expect good results. Beyond that, you expect lasting results. You certainly do not expect to spend upwards of $500 to have neither piercing last a month, and in the latter case, a week and a half. I haven't had an earring fall out of my ears since I was pierced at age 11. I went back into the studio a bit over a month later- I had tried to come in 2 other times during the month, but the line was too long each time, and I waited upwards for an hour. I completely understand that the studio had clients (and I am so glad a local/small business was so busy) but that is the explanation as to why it took me so long to re-enter the studio. My second piercer was Tyler, who I cannot give a good review of, as he was truly the epitome of bad customer service. I had actually found one of my earrings and the back after having fallen out, (the right earring), and I took it back to the studio to have it put in again. I asked Tyler if there was any sort of discount- given that both earrings had fallen out. I was planning to purchase again with Shaman, but was quickly discouraged from doing so, on account of Tyler's I was not expecting a free earring or piercing, but rather I was looking for any gesture to reduce the cost of me purchasing another earring from Shaman. I work in customer service, and have for upwards of a decade, and while I wouldn't have been disappointed if no accommodation was made, and in fact, I would have purchased again from Shaman had Tyler been polite in the slightest. Unfortunately, Tyler was beyond rude and unapologetic, that I decided not to purchase again from Shaman. He was dismissive, arrogant, and refused to acknowledge that his piercing was done in a manner that was executed poorly and insufficiently. I had to plead with him to put my earring back in, which was infected/irritated as a result of having to aggravate the piercing site and put in my own earring. Then I had to BEG him to look at my other triple (which he did not pierce) to advise me how to aid the healing process, despite having had both done at his studio. I must say, although both of my piercings fell out, Jason pierced me first, and he was excellent. He was friendly, kind, and helpful. I would certainly visit Jason or Pineapple if you are looking for a piercing. Tyler was beyond disrespectful and utterly rude. I would have (and never have) treated a customer like he did me. In fact, he smiled and shrugged when I told him my piercing didn't even last a week and a half. I would really like to give a good review of Shaman, but I had such a bad experience that I cannot. read more

It was an eye-opening experience getting my first piercing--septum. For me, this was a ceremonial effort to create a clean cut for myself, letting go of something that I needed to release. I was surprised how much of a head rush it was, getting pierced and then sitting up while the world swirled around me. I was impressed with the team's safety standards, and their educational resources to support the healing process. This particular piercing requires 6-8 weeks of healing, with a U-shaped titanium retainer in place, before receiving the ring. For me, it was a long wait, but ultimately worthwhile for something that now feels like a permanent part of me. read more

Shaman modifications is the only place I would recommend anyone going to for piercings. Jason in particular made my experience just so incredible; I have no words to really describe it justly. I was so nervous to get my septum pierced (we joked about how we'll get tattoos any day but piercings seem to be more nerve wracking), but have always wanted that piercing. The moment I walked into the shop, I was greeted warmly by him and Mercedes. The shop is immaculate, so clean and so respectful of not only Covid protocol, but just sanitation in general. Then came the actual piercing. Jason made me feel so comfortable before, during and after. He told me what to do, and when, especially with my breath. It was such a quick piercing I barely noticed it, other than a pinch. My septum fully healed in only 2 months, and it's all thanks to piercing a bit larger (at 12 g). I don't live in Austin, so I had to communicate with Jason via IG (or email) about my healing. He was always prompt and responsive, giving tips along the way (not that it was even needed since the healing was so seamless!) but I mention this because I'm 4 months post-piercing, my septum has healed PERFECTLY, and I accidentally sneeze it out in the shower LOL. I was frantic and asking Jason if I can get a new retainer sent to me. He again, so prompt and responsive within just a few minutes, directed me to a local shop to get a new retainer (I live in Virginia). Thank you again to shaman, and specifically Jason! Pineapple is a great piercer and Shaman Modifications is always the #1 piercing shop I will always recommend. That being said Shaman modifications is always the place I turn to when looking for a new piercing or jewelry. About a month ago I decided to try a different piercer. This person had a really bad attitude from the start and was very unprofessional each time we interacted. He wore a thick surgical mask-- a kN95 mask. Initially entering the shop, I misheard what he was saying and from that point forward every conversation with him was antagonistic. We also had a difference in opinion with placement of a piercing. And that honestly made things worse. He acted with short patience as if he was annoyed that he had to talk to me. The only person in the shop that day with more patience and respect was the helper/apprentice. I wish he was the one who helped me instead. The terrible interaction I had experience with Travis G. made me not want to return to Shaman Modifications for a while. Unless he decides to move on. Two months ago I got my nose pierced here (and haven't had ANY problems with the healing). The employees took intense covid precautions (which I really appreciated; they limited the number of people in the lobby and wore special masks while giving piercings). Chris helped me have a great experience; this is my third time getting my nose pierced and this was the closest thing to a pain-free experience I had with getting my nose pierced. I barely felt the piercing happen and didn't bleed. Chris was great!! Super friendly, and helped me relax when I was about to get the piercing. Jason is literally the best. He's fixed two piercings of mine, one of which was pierced with terrible quality jewelry at another local shop, which shall remain nameless. The piercing he's done for me since has healed perfectly. He helped me order a custom piece, and the process was amazingly simple. I love the fact that these piercers take the time to explain, confirm understanding, and explain again. I will never go anywhere else than Jason at Shaman Modifications. Pros: just about any aspect of the piercing process is beautifully tailored to you. The piercers are highly trained and APP certified. Shop is clean, and obviously cared for. Music is fun. Jewelry is the highest quality and custom orders are easy to start. The piercers help you pick out jewelry before the piercing. Maybe(?) the single con is ALSO a pro: the jewelry is very high quality, so you're paying the price for it. They do have titanium available, you just have to ask for it, but why would you when you have such a great selection of beautiful pieces to put in from the jump? Amazing!!! Love this place and I am so happy I found it. The staff was wonderful and the process was seamless. They do follow ups with you in 4-5 weeks to check on your piercing.. I mean who does that?? Sooo i did spend WAY more than I thought, but I realized that this was apart of my spiritual journey and I have been wanting this for over 10 years. Now the process is quick and less painful than a Brazilian (lol). Super sanitary and they let you process however you want too during the piercing. The total with the tip, gold/topaz heart and piercing was $280.00. Now the actual titanium jewelry process is only $68-87. I just got a $200 dollar piece of jewelry and tipped $20. I gotta say, this was probably one of the best customer experiences I've ever had. I was absolutely blown away. Cody was incredibly professional, informative, and made me feel so comfortable throughout the whole process. I initially went in hoping to get a second opinion on an industrial, but Cody confirmed my ear was not compatible with such a piercing (something about the helix and how my scapha/scaffold sticks out). I still wanted a piercing and Cody gave me his honest opinions on what would suit the shape of my ears. I did not feel pressured to make a decision and he did not try to upsell me on anything. He told me he wanted me to do something that I would be happy with. For an anxious person like me, I truly felt at ease when I was considering my options. I ended up choosing the flat piercing. Before getting set up in the piercing room, he gave me a clear and thorough overview of the aftercare. When it was go time, he walked me through every step of the way which made me feel relaxed as I awaited the pain. The piercing hurt only briefly. I specifically asked if they had eyelets in the Tawapa brand and they responded that they did have a small selection. I went for food and when I came back they mentioned that they had nothing but glass and titanium in my size. Horrible customer service. Jade greeted me and told me she would have to check my anatomy. She ruled out piercing me to err on the side of caution (which I 100% appreciate) but told me I could check with the other piercers on a different day or the other location. She even gave me a coupon for the inconvenience. I ended up having her upgrade my conch jewelry to a simple gold BVLA seam ring that was $150. (I have zero problem paying for quality! It's taken me forever to find a shop that has so many in stock or even carries quality jewelry. Others have requested that I find one online & they can order for me. No thanks.) She figured the size and changed it for me. SHE IS SO SWEET! I ended up running over to the other location since we drove an hour to get to Shaman. With coronavirus going on, they immediately had me wash my hands- love that. Frank is new to Shaman but is an absolute pro. He took a look at my ear and said it wouldn't be an issue to pierce me at all! He walked me through tons of jewelry options & wasn't annoyed that I like things pretty simple. I was VERY impressed with the professionalism, customer service quality, and legitimacy of covid-19 protective measures. On top of that, my piercing process was easy and seamless (I was a walk-in). Covid-wise, only 6 people allowed in at a time, everyone must wear a mask, everyone must wash hands upon entering (with an automatic dispenser and paper towels since air dryers spread germs), plastic coverings that are replaced for the iPads for info/signing upfront and paying, and proper sanitary precautions in room (mine was my nose, so he had an N-95 to make sure he and myself were safe). So many little things to make the process safe. All in all, super friendly and knowledgeable staff that walks you through the process and gives you very thorough information upfront. Had the best experience here yesterday. Got my 3rd lobe piercing redone (it closed over the years) and left tragus. The process is so easy and makes it safe during COVID. You scan the QR code and wait for a text to let you know you can come into the store. The store is so nice, clean and bright. Jewelry selection is AMAZING. There are so many great quality options. Chris helped me and he is wonderful! The staff ensures that you know all aftercare instructions and will answer any and all questions you have. Re: pricing. there have been references to the higher cost here. Keep in mind the quality of the jewelry (14K gold, 18K gold selections, among others). That alone makes the price higher bc you're paying for gold options and not sterling silver or other lower cost metals. The price for the piercings themselves are so fair for what you're getting - experience, aseptic technique, legit after care instructions and a f/u appt. I don't know about y'all, but if i'm getting a permanent piercing I would just want to do it once correctly and not have to worry that it won't heal, get infected, etc. To summarize.... this is the best piercing studio we have.
