Frank pierced my tragus and replaced my rook which was pierced previously by another person at a different shop which did not inform me very much about it. Amazing Experience! I have been wanting to get my nose ring pierced after having to take it a few years ago for a job. I stopped in Shaman on a Saturday and was greeted super quickly and told the piercer had a couple of people in front of me and that I could look at jewelry. They have a TON to choose from. I went in yesterday to get my upper lobe pierced, I didn't know what to call it so I referred to it as my ears butt crack and Chris knew exactly what I meant! This is my 3rd time being pierced at Shaman, first time was with Jade, second time with Danae and yesterday with Chris and I couldn't be happier! Each person is extremely kind and professional. Yesterday Chris walked me through the entire process, from helping me pick out jewelry in my price point to exactly what to expect during the piercing process. Not to mention he was an extremely sweet and genuine person. This shop is so legit! There is no shade or judgement here, they want you to have a great experience. I really liked shaman modifications. It is a small, but very classy piercing shop. In it, you will find large glass casings with high quality jewelry and very knowledgeable piercers. I went with my mom to get some piercings done (5 in total) and Chris was very quick to help us pick jewelry and get the piercings done efficiently. My only complaint would be the price, but you have to consider the quality of the jewelry you are receiving. I had 3 gold piercings and my mom had 2 silver with Diamond piercings done and the total was over 1k for the service and jewelry. Despite the steep price, we had a pleasant experience and will probably be back for more mods. read more

3 beautiful brown women walk into a piercing parlor for 4 piercings. A nose piercing (done with BEAUTIFUL tiger's eye stone set in 14 karat gold), an anti-tragus, a septum, and a micro dermal...were all on the menu. Once upon a time, I walked into a piercing parlor/tattoo shop in Austin...*cough cough, Atomic tattoo...burn in hell, cough cough** And as I found myself sitting on the table before the needle poked through and blood started gushing down my shirt, I found myself praying...."Please dear Goddess...make me a bird, so I can fly far far away from here." I can only say that my experience at this shop was SOOOOO vastly opposite of that one. NONE of their jewelry is externally threaded......PROPS for being educated, intelligent proprieters who UNDERSTAND why that is an inferior, and shitty way to go in the realm of jewelry. Unlike other shops in Austin that do carry externally threaded jewelry. *ahem, ahem...Atomic Tattoo...piece of trash piercers* Now, I will admit...the appointment that was originally made at Shaman's Modifications was solely for the nose. ANd I realized that I walked in and asked for the second piercing....and then if my two friends who came with me could get their piercings....and I KNOW that's not very classy or respectful of a business time management....however....Pineapple was SO accommodating and I would have totally understood if he asked us to wait. However, we were really lucky and had hit a sweet spot of a window of his time in which he was able to help us get ALL the piercing done. That Pineapple (who I believe is the owner) .... he is a CLASS act. You know how sometimes, when you're speaking to someone on the phone....and warmth just flows into your ear. That was my experience with him. In the course of my life I have been pierced more times than I can count. I've had a SLEW of things done. Each piercing healed in different ways and different times...but one CONSISTENT thing about ALMOST all piercers was that they were not the nicest people. They were kind of asses. They did their jobs incredibly well....but they were just not very nice. After making initial markings as to wear I would be punctured, and adjusting them for my liking.....he had me lay back in the chair and right above me I read a sign that said "Everything is going to be ok, just remember to breathe." Which just made my little heart beat easier. Pineapple takes SUCH good care with cleanliness and even showed me strips of paper that indicated whether the jewelry was clean, before and after sterelization. Amazing. Ok....personal revelation. I get off on pain. I love it. Every time I'm pierced...I look forward to that piercing pain...and then as I breathe out....I let that feeling wash over my body. So, when Pineapple said..."breathe in....breath out.." and on the third one pushed the needle through....I went into a state of ecstasy. Hey...it's a quirk....and I own it. My friend who got her septum piercing was so amazed. She could BELIEVE how much better it was this time when she got pierced. Before, the man who pierced her just didn't take care of her. And she was BLOWN away by how much better it was this time around. My friend who got her micro dermal piercing...was shaking afterwards---from all the incredible energy that started flowing through her body. THIS MAN HAS EARNED THE TITLE OF SHAMAN! When my friend with the septum piercing told him that this time around she didn't hear a crazy crunch as the piercing was done....Pineapple's response..."I told you...these hands are magic." hahaha...PERFECT. Simply perfect. I have noticed that at every MAJOR juncture of my life, I have gotten a piercing. And this time it was no different. I was THRILLED to get pierced by a man who knows the cultural roots of piercing. Whose piercing shop is NOT covered on the walls by photos of modern day folks with piercings...but by folks from cultures and tribes all over the world with their amazing piercings. I am a nurse and one might consider me extremely nit-picky about sterility if one were so inclined :P All the same, she explained everything she was doing and why. We both had wanted certain things for a while...so we walk in, tell them what we want, and we immediately get pointed in the direction of Josiah. Josiah looks like Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands...and this is a good thing! He is precious sweet and was so helpful with both my brother's choice and mine. He sat down with us and drew things out...and I actually ended up picking something totally different out of his book and I couldn't be happier. I had 6 tattoos prior to this last one...and I can say, without a doubt, that he is the best tattoo artist I've ever come across. Both of our tattoos are flawless...and he was seriously fast. This place has outstanding customer service. First of all, I went in looking for a piece for my conch piercing, and there are so many options it's a little overwhelming. However, the guy I was working with, Frank, was super patient, didn't mind checking prices, checking prices of custom stuff, me asking about cheaper options (totally cool about it). All I'm saying is that it can be a bit intimidating walking in there, and these guys are just trying to get you to what you need while being comfortable. After talking with him about a wayward jewelry choice, Frank also was also curious if my septum was still open after not wearing jewelry for years, and much to my pleasant surprise, it was, so he fitted a piece for my septum as well! I went for a nose piercing and I loved the place, the staff and the work that was done. The shop was small but they had so many options available. They asked customers to wash their hands as soon as they entered the store and masks were enforced. Once the store reached capacity they put a sign up for people to wait outside until there was room. All the paperwork and information provided could easily be taken care of on my phone. They were very friendly and informative when it came to the process and aftercare. I got help from Chris and he was very thorough when it came to gloves, mask, sterilizing the equipment and jewelry itself. I loved the piercing positioning and just the way in turned out in general. Unfortunately, I had a pretty yucky experience going to Shaman yesterday for a concern over my rook piercing which they did 3 months earlier. My piercing has been a slow burn while healing and never felt right. I did email my piercer and hadn't heard back so I finally made my way to their location yesterday. I had an awful experience going in asking for help. I felt shamed and was given next to no advice and only told to watch the aftercare video on their website. I was confused by the video and confused about what to do which is why I went back asking for help but clearly I got someone on the wrong day and they were evidently annoyed and made me feel embarrassed. I'm still not sure what do with my piercing, it's not healing quite right and i have more questions. I heard that diablo riojo is good so I might go there and ask for help. read more

I had two smaller tattoos on my upper arms done about 10 years ago. Felt it was finally time for another and it would be a bigger piece done on the back of my right tricep. I read some great reviews here and checked this place out along with a few other shops in Austin. Shaman was by far the most friendly of the ones I visited. I instantly felt like they were really paying attention to what I had to say instead of being stuck-up artists so I felt really confident I made a good choice. Justin Vickers was going to tattoo me and I've seen some of his work including tattooing one of his co-worker's faces! I was sold at that point. I shot some ideas with him via email and MMS. Within a week I felt he nailed the design so it was into the shop for a 6 hour job. If you aren't a newb and have gotten tattooed before you'll notice that Justin doesn't have a heavy hand, meaning it's not going to feel like he's putting a jackhammer to your skin. The total session lasted a bit over 5 hours but we made conversation while taking a few breaks. I was stoked after seeing how it turned out. Sometimes it looks good on paper but not so much when its on your body but this custom Polynesian design came out better than I had imagined. Definitely recommend this shop to anyone ranging from intimidated first-timers to those inked up head to toe. read more

This shop is absolutely amazing. I came here to get my philtrum RE-pierced. In a nut shell, this is a very clean, friendly, inviting, caring, aesthetically pleasing establishment. For details, read on ;) I first had my philtrum pierced about 6 weeks ago at a very shady shop in Wichita Falls by someone that didn't quite know what they were doing. The shop itself wasn't at all inviting; I didn't see the piercer sterilize any of the equipment (he went into the other room to do so while I was signing papers); I bled a LOT; I almost fainted about 5 minutes afterwards; and I wasn't given any information on after care. To top it all off, it wasn't centered and the piercing itself was done at an awful angle so I couldn't smile or laugh without it catching on my teeth. My lip was INSANELY swollen for about 4 days and I'm pretty sure it was infected, so I took it out. Despite all of this, I wanted to get it re-pierced because I absolutely love the way philtrum piercings look. I decided to get it done in Austin while visiting my girlfriend's parents because I felt I could find a much better shop. After hearing some of my girlfriend's friends suggestions about Shaman and reading reviews on Yelp, I knew it was a no brainer! First and foremost: I secured my appointment online by putting down a $10 deposit. The next day, Pineapple - the piercer, texted me to let me know that he had received the deposit and to let me know when my appointment would be. I've never once experienced a tattoo artist or piercer reaching out to ME like that. I was super nervous going into it because of my last experience getting my philtrum pierced. Plus, I usually don't feel very comfortable in shops because the tattoo artists/piercers act as if they are 2 kewl 4 skool and I feel like they just can't wait to get everything done as fast as possible. But after walking in, I was immediately greeted (genuinely!) and I felt very comfortable in the shop. It was very open and inviting. I first chose my jewelry - an opal stud. There were SO many options. Then we went upstairs to the piercing room where Pineapple carefully and slowly explained/showed EVERYTHING to me. I saw the equipment get sterilized (in this super cool machine), and after letting me do my paperwork, he took time to explain all the details on aftercare. Once this was all finished, Pineapple marked my lip (taking extra care to make sure that it was perfectly centered and the inside of my lip matched the outside). The piercing itself was pretty painful, possibly because of scar tissue, but I didn't bleed at all! The first time I got it pierced, I seriously felt like I was going to throw up and pass out, it was pretty frightening. But at Shaman, I felt fine afterwards!! The piercing is perfectly straight, and I couldn't imagine a better experience. It's a bit more expensive to get pierced here, but trust me, when it comes to body modification, you want to make sure that you get your mods done by professionals that really take pride in what they do, like at Shaman. I know that I was taken care of and that if I have any questions, I can contact Pineapple and he will help me out it with whatever I could possibly need. Honestly, I don't think I have ever experienced better customer service anywhere else. I will definitely be returning for any other body mods that I want in the future! read more

Got a great piece done here! Had an appointment with James and then about 2 weeks later got my piece done in 2 hours and 20 minutes. A great Batman piece on my inner arm that shows Bruce in attack. Serves an illusion as no matter the position I hold my arm in, it looks as if he's in a stance for vengeance. Great detail was put into the chest/torso area and it looks great. I walked in last Saturday to finally get my first body art of my deceased Dad's dog tag. In no time at all, Nixxin had the draft up and made sure it was acceptable.
