Dairy-free ice cream on St. John!
    Mark B.

If I were reviewing their "Sweet Shack" (across the street) it would be an easy 5-stars. Over 20 flavors of dairy-free ice cream available on St. John--wow. And plenty of other treats. All really good stuff. And there's a rooftop eating area, too. There's a fun vibe in the main restaurant, but the food was barely adequate bar food.

Stumbled across this very Hangry on our way back from the beach. Yes it was off Centerline road, but worth the detour. Excellent food and service. For those that need GF options, they have them! Enjoy!

Ok. This restaurant received mixed reviews from my family. The daughter-in-law and I weren't overly impressed. The food was just so-so. We both had the fish and chips and thought the fish was too greasy. It is all outside seating and there is not a view at all. Unless you count what looked like a construction site on one side and a junk yard on the other. The guys on the other hand..the hubby, the son, and the 18 month old grandson liked it. I understood the glee of the toddler since he LOVES excavators, but not sure what the draw was for the two older guys. My husband said the name says it all...Shambles. They don't promise a great view so we couldn't complain. The hubby had the Bacon Blue Cheese Burger with the cucumber salad and the son had the Red Snapper lunch special. I will have to say if you are looking for a fun bar scene this may be the place for you. There was a huge selection behind the bar. Some of the chairs at the bar were wooden swings. Most of the staff were fun and friendly. It seemed to be a local favorite. This just made three stars-probably due to the influence of my three guys. Although we did make some family memories, while I'm on an island, give me the ocean views while I'm enjoying a 4+star meal.

There is only one thing I didn't like about this place and that is I wish I had know about it sooner. I found it to be perfect for what we desired. Good drinks good service good music always playing. Local hangout. The owner and I had quite a conversation. Talked about how the name came about. Very interesting. Be sure and ask. He sent us off with an out of production shirt (she loves it) for her and I purchased another one. Good folks here. Had others tell us to go and glad we did.

My wife and I had dinner at Shambles (12/28/23). Shambles is one of the "midway" restaurants on Centerline Road, between Cruz Bay and Coral Bay. It's just across the street from its partner restaurant, Sweet Shack, and a few yards further on is the Windmill Bar, known for its spectacular views, especially sunsets. It's a colorful, fun-looking, casual restaurant. There was plenty of seating (no reservations needed), and the bar area was mostly full of local folks, always a good sign. We started the evening with a few painkillers and rum punches, both of which were delicious and potent! St. John is known for its "pours," and Shambles fits the bill nicely! For an appetizer, we ordered the buffalo cauliflower, which was delicious, flavorful, and had a medium kick to it. For dinner, we split a veggie pizza, which was served piping hot. It was flavorful, and the vegetables were plenteous and not overcooked. Service was perfect--relaxed and attentive. And by St. John standards, Shambles is not too pricey, either. We planned our evening with a start at Shambles, then headed over to Shamble's Sweet Shack for dessert: candied pecan ice cream. Mindblowing--so good! We took our ice cream with us to Windmill Bar for the sunset. (The staff member at Sweet Shack assured us it would be okay, and it was.) Shambles AND Sweet Shack were the perfect start to our evening, and are definitely on our list of restaurants to revisit on our next trip.

We loved our time spent at Shambles!! This restaurant was closest to the villa so it was a place we often ended our night at. Also, the food was amazing! The bartenders were so much fun! Javon, I am still waiting for our date! Haha. As with everything on the island, drinks are rum heavy. I can only drink so many rum drinks. So they would get creative with fun whiskey drinks for me! The fish and chips were the best I have ever had. This place was so much fun!! I would absolutely recommend checking it out!

This is our 2nd time here, we visit when we are on island. We had lunch and it was pretty good. If I had any suggestion it would be to fill the cup w cucumber salad it was fresh and good. Consider putting a side back w the sandwiches that is included rather than up charge for sides, even if smaller portioned. Dill sauce awesome. Mahi can be a drier fish, this was cooked nice came w onion, let. And tomato. A little pricey now w sides extra. Nice vibe. We are not country western folk but it is ok fine, some classic rock tunes on the mix were played.

We ended up at Shambles because the kitchen closed at another nearby restaurant before our food came out. Stroke of good fortune! Best Mahi Mahi sandwich we had on our entire trip! Staff was so friendly and engaging. We ended up going back 2 more times before our trip was over. Got the ribs the 2nd time and they were sooo good. For our last visit we had to get another blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich...it was just that good! Such a fun laid back place with great food & drinks! Oh!...and be sure to get an orange vanilla painkiller! Thank me later!

Ben and Erin two great bartenders

We stopped by for a quick bite and a drink. Erin was the friendliest bartender we had on the island. She makes a great spicy margarita and hubs loved the banana painkiller. Loved the swings at the bar. We will be back before we leave. Completely unrelated but 5 stars on the beard.

The Longboard's creative cocktails, specifically the Swell Chaser and Paloma Brava, are perfectly crafted. The ceviche, Shrimp Tostones, and Isla Verde poke bowl are fresh, bright, and delicious. We've never been disappointed -- the food is always on point, and the service is always welcoming. Even though the restaurant isn't right on the beach, it absolutely has the vibe. It's comfortable and inviting -- the perfect stop after a day in the sun for happy hour and light bites or a relaxed dinner in a laid-back island setting.

Having said that, it's a beach bar vibe like most places. Open-air seating, no AC, and beach club motif. In this case, it's a one-page menu of food and drinks, serving ceviche, sushi wraps, and poke bowls...that's it. Some appetizers, but that's the menu as you'll see in pics. We ordered an F-bomb frozen drink that was COMPLETELY refreshing on a warm day. Happy hour is early 2:00-4:00, so know that if going for dinner. For entrees, I got a Tropical Poke bowl with tuna (they also offer two other kinds of fish). It was chock-full of pineapple, pickled onions, sushi rice, and other goodies. In other words, a typical fresh poke bowl. Our other entree was a jerk chicken lettuce wrap with chili flakes that was really good and deceptively filling. At the end of the day, this was a great meal and atmosphere, and we would return if we have exhausted all options in Cruz Bay.

Candidly, nothing on the dinner menu blew our minds. The tuna sandwich with wasabi and arugula was fantastic, and the tuna was prepared perfectly! We also got shrimp tacos that were better than the sandwich for what it's worth. Our server, who didn't give us her name, was sweet and attentive and even brought a cask of water without us asking. At the end of the day, High Tide delivered as advertised. Three last thoughts if you've read this far: Park at the MVD and walk; it's not that far and free.
