She was fun, personable, attentive, and had great recommendations for both food and drinks. The Beach Bar is what I consider the quintessential beach bar and overall the best experience I had while on the island. I stopped in here twice, once for happy hour and for dinner. The location and ambience are nice. The bar is located on the beach and right in the town square area. It had a super fun and airy vibe, not too kitschy, just somewhere that you want to hang and chill The food was all amazing and blew my expectation out of the water. The fish basket was my favorite dish of the night. It was well breaded and lightly friend and hit the spot, and the fried shrimp was a close second. The Beach Bar is everything you want in a Caribbean beach bar toes in the sand, boats in the harbor, live music in the background, and a front-row seat to those unreal St. John sunsets. We went during their Painkiller special and the price was honestly amazing. It tasted so good smooth, creamy, tropical, and super refreshing. The only downside? It didn't really taste like there was much alcohol in it. Great flavor, but if you're looking for a strong pour, you may need more than one. This was hands down some of the best bar food I've ever had. The poke nachos were next level flavorful, and perfectly balanced. And the fried fish? Crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside, and clearly fresh. Everything tasted high quality, not just your typical frozen bar bites. The vibe shifts as the day goes on, relaxed and easy during lunch, then more lively and energetic in the evening with a friendly crowd and even a live feed to say hi to friends from home. 10/10 for atmosphere and food. I'm not just writing this review based on my experience at the restaurant. I'm writing it based on what happened after. The meal itself was fine. Our waitress was genuinely wonderful, warm, attentive, and a pleasure to deal with. She deserves better than this review reflects on her. The problem started with the bill. A mandatory gratuity was added, which technically was disclosed on the menu. But the wording? "For your convenience, gratuity may be added." For MY convenience. A charge added against my will, framed as a courtesy to me. I left a calm, factual Google review explaining exactly that. Then the owner responded. They opened with "Thanks Karen.....I mean Nicholas." Then called me cheap, told me to "keep my cheap a$$ at home," and finished with "we don't want you back." This was their public response to a paying customer who complimented their staff and raised a legitimate concern about billing practices. The mandatory gratuity was manipulative. The owner's response was insulting. Together, they paint a very clear picture of how this establishment views the people walking through its doors. The waitress was a delight. The rest of this place is not worth your time or your money. read more

Just witnessing his demeanor, my daughter went to the far side of the bar to get drinks so she didn't have to interact with him and possibly affect our perfect island day. . We normally make this our first stop when we get off the ferry. A great place to start your trip.

Can't complete a trip to STJ without hitting the beach bar. After a day in the BVI's we finished our day off with drinks and tacos and the beach bar. Seating was scarce but we managed to find a spot closer to the inside bar, but still looking out over the water. Our server was a bit surly but she sure was hustling as it was quite busy...Sunday and lots around to watch the game. We ordered 2 orders of fish tacos do split between the two of us and some conch fritters and of course drinks. I ordered a lemonade which honestly just tasted like a splash of lemon in some ice water. Tacos and fritters were good. The Beach Bar is best for drinks and ambiance! In the hierarchy of places you aren't allowed to be angry, beach bars land just behind swim-up bars up near the top of the list. Because they have alcohol, and chairs on the sand where you can go drink it. When you have these things, that means life is good. This Beach Bar isn't winning any creativity awards for its name, but it does have great live music, rum punch that is only a little too sweet, cold beer, and surprisingly excellent food. About that: 1. Tuna. Bites. This is a thin snake of seared, blackened tuna that is served with a delightful wasabi crema. It is my favorite thing I ate here, and perhaps my favorite thing I ate on the entire island. I will come back just for drinks and these, and I sincerely appreciate the blackened spices being just hot enough that my kid won't eat it. More for me. 2. Reuben spring rolls. Just an excellent rendition of this bar favorite. You can't go wrong, unless you don't like reubens, in which case why are you bothering me about this? 3. Everything else. They fry things well here (chicken fingers, fish and chips, shrimp. The salad was large and tasty, the grilled mahi sandwich hits the spot, and the quality across the board makes me believe everything I haven't had is delicious as well. Good food, good drinks, and cornhole, Giant Connect Four, and a beach for my kids to play on...I actually love this place. If masochism is your thing, they also operate a Beach Bar Cam online that you can check out when you're at home in your sad, non-island home. Very nice and chill spot on the island. Nachos were delicious and came with a lot of great toppings (it wasn't just cheese). My main entree was the Flying Shrimp basket which came with fried shrimp with buffalo sauce and French fries. I would pass on the sauce next time just because it had a strong vinegar taste. The Beach Bar is always a must for anyone traveling to St John. Great food and views forever

We stopped in to the acclaimed Beach Bar on New Year's Day. The Beach Bar has a great reputation for its food and live music. We'd watched it from their live feed while back in the States. It's a colorful, fun, high energy place. It was super crowded, and we ended up ordering conch fritters, picking up a couple drinks at the bar, then sitting at the tables on the beach, and we were told our order would come to us. After a 20-minute wait, I went up to check on our order. About 10 minutes later, it arrived. Despite the long wait, the fritters were crispy and delicious. We probably would have ordered more drinks, except for that long wait! But we'll definitely go back on our next visit, and hopefully, it won't be so busy. After all, it WAS New Year's Day! read more

St john has been my solace for decades. A place to reset my life compass and a place to get away from it all. WHY IN HELLS NAME IS THIS BAR HERE? Why are we bringing Fort Lauderdale and the rift raft to this place? It's truly a tasteless for a place like St John. I dined at The Terrace. It's across the street from the Beach Bar. The Terrace is an amazing spot with amazing food and staff. But, the Beach Bar absolutely ruined the vibe. Plus, the music was horrid and I'm a musician. So sad, the decline of St John. The drinks are plentiful and gorgeous (I mean check out the chocolate syrup skills in my drink photo), the views of the bay are on point, the servers/bartenders do it all. We found ourselves posting up to the bar many nights or afternoons while in St. John for a drink or two and some grub. We were even lucky enough to hear live music while we were there one night. The food will satisfy for your typical beach bar. The environment is laid back and unpretentious!! Be sure to give this place a stop on your vaca! If you're coming off the ferry, this is the best spot to start your day in St. John. It is RIGHT on the beach, with tons of tables on the sand. We immediately sat down, had a drink in our hands, and feet in the sand. It was awesome. Food is typical touristy food, nothing special. Save lunch for another spot. But perfect spot for a few drinks to get you tipsy on vacation. Strong and delicious. read more
