Not impressed with the Asheville location. I opened the rickety front door and was immediately hit with a bad smell. Broken down furniture and junk was strewn everywhere. The old laminate flooring was buckled and dirty. No one was at the front desk so I wandered in the back and said "Hello?" I heard a woman yell, "Hold on I'll be there in a minute!" When she came out she seemed annoyed. "What do you want?" she said. I told her my name and that I had an appointment. I asked her to also trim my dog's toenails. "It comes with it so you didn't need to tell me that," she said, as she took my dog in the back in a huff. Excuse me, ma'am. Sorry to put you out! They need to fix the place up or at least clean it. They also need to work on customer service. Meantime, I won't be coming back. read more

I took my dog Daisy, an older pittie, to Jamie, the new manager at the Shampoodles on McDowell. Daisy doesn't like getting groomed, and hates having her toes done. But Jamie was wonderful with her! We have a new favorite salon! read more

I really loved my dogs cut and even the staff, but when I got home I realized that my doodle had very bloody cuts/scabs on the tips of his ears from the shaver. I ended up having to take him to the vet and got hit with a $200 bill because they were infected. We just had our collie groomed a few hours ago. As you can see from the picture the cut is uneven and raggedy. The last two times I have taken her this is the sub standard quality of grooming we have received. We also take her to a groomer up North when we are out of town. Our fur baby leaves that shop looking like she is ready to step into a show ring for almost $20 less per visit! Usually her grooming look lasts for weeks from the place up North ... however when she goes to Shampoodles the grooming looks & smells the same as if I would have bathed her at home. The photos I've seen online from this shop aren't representative of the quality of work we have experienced. read more

I had to leave one of my babies while I was at work to have him groomed. It all went really smoothly, my doggie looks great and smooth and unphased by being there. The groomer was super sweet and talked to me at the beginning and end of the booking. She was very friendly and kind. Thank you for a great experience! Based on a recommendation, we took our two babies to Shampoodles. The price, on it's face was very good. In light of the quality of the grooming though, the price was outrageously high. Our Golden Retriever was returned to us wet and with mats in his hind feathers. His ears clearly hadn't been cleaned or clipped. We asked that his undercoat be exfoliated and that was not done. Goldens, when groomed are supposed to have the overly long hair be removed and that wasn't done either. Our other dog's clipping was a nightmare. His coat was uneven, his nails hadn't been touched, there was no semblance of the cut he should have gotten and again, he was partially dry and left with a damp coat. Avoid this groomer like the plague! read more

Unfortunately I didn't have a great experience with shampoodles. I was very excited to try them out, they were very nice over the phone and when I dropped her off. Unfortunately I picked up my dog and noticed her nail was bleeding really bad. I brought her back in to ask about it and the response they gave us was loosely, "she got jerky when we were clipping her nails. They shouldn't walk on the pavement because when they kick off, it can shave their nails down." They put some powder stuff on her nail and then told me not to let her walk on pavement for an hour. Fortunately my dog is small enough to carry to my car. If this would've happened with a bigger dog that you couldn't carry I don't know what they would've said. I feel like this was not the way they should've gone about this. Wish I would've been told all of this before I walked out the door and through the pavement parking lot. This would be a completely different story if they simply would've let me know that they might've cut them too short and to not let her walk on the pavement BEFORE I walked out the door. Definitely not the experience I was hoping for. read more

Exceptional experience with, at last, a groomer who grooms to breed standards and has excellent customer service. After having been an unhappy customer of another N AVL salon for two years, I was nervous about trusting another groomer. My Old English Sheepdog had exceptional grooming experiences when we lived in Washington DC; when I moved to AVL, the former groomer ignored my requests and just always shaved him down. Richard took great care in listening to my concerns and took extra time (HOURS!) to de-mat and give my dog a proper look. He was kind, never judged, and offered helpful advice. I always can count on this place to fit me into their schedule. A little off the beaten path but worth it. Very clean, friendly and affordable. I can tell my pup enjoys her time there, she seems to get excited every time we pull up. They are also very attentive to the little details I request. We will not be coming back to Shampoodles. We are new to the area and unfortunately had a terrible first experience. Our dog is a Goldendoodle and he's 1 years old. He started to get very matted a month back and it had never been an issue before. We actually were the people who could keep our doodle long and were complimented by the groomers for how good and unmated we kept his coat. Out of nowhere about a month ago m things took a turn for the worse and he started to develop mats despite how much we brushed him. After consulting our groomer and family friend from home we were told it could possibly be from him developing his adult coat and his puppy coat matting up underneath it. So like diligent dog owners we went online and sought any remedy that could be done to salvage his coat. We tried all solutions by brushing him 2x a day, buying a specific de-matting comb, and detangler solution. After hours of working on him every night for a full week and what seemed to be never ending and evolving mats (it was as if he woke up with 10 more for every 5 we took out) we threw our hands up and called Shampoodles asking for him to be shaved. We made the next appointment and was told if we took the 9am appointment he wouldn't have to wait in line and could be first on the tables. So of course we picked the earliest appointment since we prefer him not to be crated for hours at a time. So I drop him off at 9am and after apologizing for his coat and trying to be as understanding about how short they'd have to shave him, the groomer agreed, his coat was in bad shape and shaving is the best route to go (as expected). I thanked her and said I understood. I went around town and ran errands and went to appointments and called 3 hours later at noon to see if I should stay around the area to come get him soon. I was told he had just gotten on the table for his FIRST clipping. So from this call I already knew he wasn't even put on the table until noon. That's 3 hours after I dropped him off! I then call again at 2:45pm to see if I can come to get him and they said I could make my way over and when I inquired why he wasn't started until noon the lady told me it was because she had another small dog to groom before him and she had run late. I then show up to the groomers prepared to let this all go and just never come back again but then the man (who I believe is probably the owner based off other reviews) rang me up started to tell me the reason it took 6 hours to groom my dog was because it was my fault he got so bad and essentially blamed me for what I interpret to be as a bad dog owner. He not once mentioned how I was told he didn't get started until noon and that the groomer said she started late and had another booking before him that held her up. So now you're telling a paying customer is in the wrong and has no grounds for being upset her puppy was left unattended to from 9-12pm when he could've been home with food and water and dropped off later to avoid the entire thing. Also to say I forced you to have to shave him which takes a long time is crazy because I called and asked specifically for a shaving so it shouldn't have been new news to you he needed to be shaved. Regardless of the state you believe my dog's coat is in it doesn't justify having him sit in a crate for 3 hours and taking no responsibility of your own for a 6 hour wait for my dog to be done. Even if it truly is ALL my fault (which I find hard to believe) you don't treat a customer this way. I sent our groomer we used in Florida a picture of our puppy after picking him up he immediately pointed out how uneven and patchy his fur was and also said that 6 hours was way beyond the normal time it takes to shave him regardless of how bad his mats were. This is clearly an issue with the salon's time management and not owning up to not starting him until noon, over booking dogs before him, and for running late. I fully anticipated to pick up a shaved dog but I didn't expect to be blamed and chastised for his 6 hour grooming day. You will never have to deal with us again and you will also never get a good referral from us. read more

We had a great experience with Shampoodles in Reynold's Village. Richard was very accommodating and pleasant. The quality of grooming was excellent. He is obviously skilled w/ the shears and he has a great eye for style. He made my little yorkie very chic. She has been prancing around like a queen since her grooming. Richard is also very professional and delivers excellent customer service. My only critique is we would have loved a bow in her hair. Highly recommend Shampoodles! read more
