This was one of the most awful, traumatic experiences working with any contractor I've ever had. Patrick was extremely difficult to work with and a terrible communicator. He hardly answered emails or when he would, he'd ignoring the content. When communicating verbally, it was in one ear and out the other. It took me a year and a half to get the gate installed. From April 2019 to May 22, 2020, I just had the gate posts there in my driveway, and no gate. When they finally brought over the gate and installed it, it was not made according to the agreed-upon specs, so they carted it off and re-did it. Even in the 2nd install, while now the gate is made according to the specs, there are still unresolved issues that I don't even want to bother with fixing any more In April 2019, after Patrick knew which of his gate styles I wanted, he came with his guys to install the posts in the cement. I needed the gate to open outwards but he said that wasn't possible. A friend of mine said it would be, and made designs, which I both emailed him and hand-delivered in Nov 2019 when I went to his workshop. I brought my friend to discuss it in person before they even started building the gate. The gate design I had wanted was based on a photo of a gate in his studio and one installed in Pasadena. I insisted on including a design of the gate with the contract. He provided me an incorrect design, which was missing the central thick post, which is one of the main features I liked about the actual gate- that it looked like two doors. Instead, his design was one panel. I asked him to re-design it with the measurements but based on the photo of a gate he had done but he refused, saying he had to pay someone $100 to make the first drawing. So I did it myself using this photo he sent me as the basis, and I gave that to him with specs written on it. Also, because Patrick complained that there weren't specifics on the functionality, I gave him those specs, too. In my Nov. 11, 2019 email to him, I tried to make it crystal clear: "Hi Patrick Ready to move forward again on the gate. Todd even made a 2-D model to make sure that my car will fit though and i'd have about 10" on each side of my sideview mirrors. I'm attaching his diagrams and measurements here in the PDF and I asked him to write down in text form what he wants to say about the 3rd page. 1. Weld a second 4" by 4" steel post to the existing one so that the gate can swing open to the backyard with its hinge pin centers located 5" away from the house's wall (requires custom block or bracket to weld hinge pin bodies to post). 2. Weld the hinge pin bodies to the BACKSIDE of the gate on 1/4" steel reinforcement plates which are welded onto the gate's 1.5" by 1.5" vertical posts. 3. Mount the Liftmaster LA400 on a custom-made bracket so it's pivot center is 2" left and 8" back from the hinge pin center axis (left means towards the house wall and back means towards the backyard). The Liftmaster LA400 should be installed low and out of view behind the bottom panels on the gate. 4. Attach the actuator arm of the Liftmaster LA400 to the BACKSIDE of the gate 45" away from the gate's hinge pin center axis (will require a 1/4" steel reinforcement plate welded across the gate's 1" by 1.5" horizontal members at the attachment point)." On Nov. 12, he wrote back: "We can not work with this. It has no guidance at all . Plus I think we can do it without the second post. So I think we need to meet again. We have an other option for the gate which would allow us not to use the second post" It then took 9 more emails to figure out from him WHEN would be good to meet. Dec. 5 , 2019 after 2 days of unanswered emails, I called. I thought he needed to come back on site to go over the design but he refused to come back because he claimed I made him stand in the sun for two hours and because of his illness it's not good for him, to which I said I was not familiar with that illness or its dangers, to which he said "you're a teacher, you should look it up." I wanted everything to be in writing as a record. We met again on Dec. 6 at his workshop. I handed him hard copies of the designs and dimensions of the gate bc. he lost the specs. Long story shot, in May 2020 they installed the gate, but it wasn't to specs at all. They took it back, fixed it, and when the re-installed it, the computer panel wouldn't work and I had to wait another 3+ weeks. Now it works, but there are still issues with it, like when they touched up the black paint on the gate, they also sprayed my house in several places; they added a ball cap instead of the flat cap on a post that we had discussed, etc. Avoid the drama and choose another contractor. read more

Patrick at Shamrock did a great job on my garage door. He helped me find a great flat panel design that worked well with my mid-century house. The new motor and side rail system increased the height clearance by about 6 inches. A bonus surprise is how quiet the door is in comparison to my 60 year old squeaker. I'm sure the neighbors appreciate the silence. I saw a couple reviews calling Patrick "rude", which is the opposite experience that I had with him. He's professional, not a chatty-Kathy... Patrick's very knowledgable, get's to the point quickly, and sticks to the quote price. Door did run a little late, which I expected having done lots of work on houses in the past. Shamrock Doors and Gates recently completed three projects for me: 1) a front-porch metal handrail, 2) a back-porch metal handrail, and 3) a gate for a chain-link fence at the back of our property. The metal handrails are very sturdy and were painted white (with paint that we provided) to match the color of our house. The garage door at my home was installed in the 90's. It is a rolling, industrial, metal garage door--not a traditional garage door. The sensor broke and I was anxious to get it fixed for safety reasons. I called a couple of places, they came out, but they were unable to repair the door stating that they didn't have the parts to this type of door. Patrick came out and said he would be able to do the job. He arrived as scheduled and installed an updated sensor. He cleaned up unnecessary wires making the installation look clean. Had a second gate installed by Patrick and his employee. My first gate was large and across my driveway with remote control. It went quite well. Small gate on the other side of my house was rotting, warped, and no longer closed properly. Although there were delays in installation due to rain it is now installed. Do not use this company. Shamrock was recommended by my neighbor. From the start, it was an unpleasant experience. Patrick, the owner, was forgetful and took a long time to get my driveway gate and side fence underway. He asked me 3 times to send the quote that he had given me because he couldn't find his. He showed up with a different gate design than what we had decided on. I was told that the gate would take a week and it took 3 weeks. When the workmen came,the gate was wet and sticky since they just put on the stain. They put on another layer of stain after they attached the gate. The smell was incredibly bad and the neighbors complained. Also, the corner of the gate by the fence side has not been stained and part of the post was not painted. The fence is 4+ inches above the ground.so I have to block the bottom of the fence so the dogs don't dig out. . There was wood filler that didn't take the stain and is smeared. There were fingerprints on the gate from where it was handle while it was wet and uneven staining on the wood. It took another week for the workmen to come back and seal the gate. Freddy, the workman, fixed the problems that he could and was very helpful. I wrote to Patrick about the problems but he had left the country for 3 weeks. He still has not come to look at the work done. Here is the kicker: I gave the down payment to the workmen. Patrick told me to mail the balance due. I sent it certified but no one was available to sign for it. I tracked it and told Patrick that he could call the post office and they would redeliver the check or he could pick it up at the post office. His reply is that he doesn't pick up mail. He wrote a bullying email to me, demanding a new check delivered personally by me to him on the next day. read more

We chose Shamrock Doors because we had used them before satisfactorily. Owner, Patrick Morris, came out on 5/31/16 and inspected our aged garage door opener and suggested a replacement Lift Master which would be able to be remotely operated from our cars and by our Smartphones. He also suggested new rollers to make the operation much quieter. Cost $635. The first problem we had was a week's delay in installation because "a part was missing" said Patrick, and would have to be re-ordered. Carlos did a good job but when we asked him about the syncing of our cars and the opener, he said Patrick would be back that day to complete the connection. In the meantime, prior experience led me to believe that I could accomplish making the connections; but after a great number of unsuccessful tries I decided to leave it to the expert. No only did Patrick fail to show up, when I called him the next day, he refused to come back and finish the job, angrily insisting that the programming was too simple and that I must be doing something wrong. He told me to call the Lift Master company for instructions that I could follow and not to bother him again. My call to Lift Master revealed that Step #1 should have been the instruction to put my car's ignition switch into the accessories position. That was absolutely necessary for the other steps to work. Well, not quite. In addition, it was discovered that it was absolutely necessary to buy a $38.00 "bridge" to update Lift Master's software so that the connections could be completed. Okay, I ordered the extra part (the aforementioned "missing" part?) and when it was finally delivered, I was able to easily make the cars to opener connections myself. Next, I tried to establish the Wi-Fi connection that had sounded so good in the sales pitch. More connectivity problems. Mostly the very confusing language and lack of help from the Chamberlain company that makes the electronic connection equipment. Imagine my surprise when I asked the service department for help. I was told that the problem with the connection was my modem at home. When I asked why that should be, I was told they didn't know and had no service technicians. They said I must call Time Warner and have them sort it out. I did, it wasn't my modem. Now I had nowhere to turn. It was getting too HOT to work in my garage on this connection problem, so I went on a 5 day trip. When I returned, I decided to ignore the directions in the manual from Chamberlain and to experiment with various steps until I found the right combination. On June 19h, Patrick had the gall to email me to ask if I had ever gotten connected. I had not and did not respond. On June 20th, I found the right combination for my car. Now, what must I do to connect my husband's cellphone to the garage door opener? Days later, I had to make a final call to Chamberlain. They said my husband must do nothing more than sign in to their MyQ website using my username and password. Why don't they just put that information into their manual? June 21st, yesterday, a full month since I ordered the garage door opener and then had to do most of the non-physical labor myself. We are FINALLY connected. No, we won't be doing business with Shamrock again and hope to have no more problems with Lift Master/Chamberlain in the future either. read more

Patrick was FINALLY able to get my driveway gate to operate reliably after having another company come out almost TWENTY times, spending entire days working on the gate. Yes... twenty. After giving up on the company that was unable to repair the gate in a way that would allow the gate to operate properly for more than a day, I called a second company, who quoted me $8,000 for an entirely new motor. That did not feel right, so I asked around on Facebook and was referred to Shamrock Gates by multiple people who had good experiences with them. They replied promptly to their online 'contact us' form and came out the next day to evaluate the problem. Patrick is somewhat of a gate surgeon. He was very quiet and thoughtful about assessing the problem, then proposed a solution that would cost about about 10% of the replacement quote. He did the work quickly and professionally. I was so happy that the gate was finally working, but he wanted it to be perfect, so he ordered a very specific, tiny wire to make it work perfectly. I was impressed with his perfectionism and his determination to repair the gate at the lowest cost to me. He did not want to fix anything that was not broken and that required him to take his time evaluating the problem. I am grateful to Shamrock Gates, as this gate was driving me crazy and seemed to have a mind of it's own. His thick Irish accent can be difficult to understand, but he is very good about texting, which we can all appreciate these days. He even messaged me a week later to make certain the gate was continuing to operate perfectly. I have an old home which has required lots of repairs. We wanted 3 custom made beautiful wood garden gates for our 1928 home in Glendale, Ca. And boy, did we get them!!! We could not be happier with the final product. We had very precise requirements and many questions. We wanted excellent craftsmanship, and gates that would last for many years. As with any contractor, we had to be patient and work with Patrick on when our schedule fit with his schedule. But there was nothing unreasonable. He had to wait for us to do things, such as find and order and wait for delivery of custom made locks for the gates. We actually were stunned at how gorgeous the gates were!! We used EPA wood for the gates, as that lasts longer than other woods. And, though EPA costs more, it was totally worth it, as the COLOR (stained with oil) was AMAZING!!! 5 stars for price, quality, and service. Patrick built beautiful and sturdy outdoor metal gates for me with locking hardware. In total, there were 3 outdoor gates of varying widths with metal panels; the design worked very well with my 7 foot tongue and grove cedar fence. A very nice contrast between the modern doors (Modrian-like design) and my sleek wooden fence. The frame was black with panels in mid-century modern colors. Patrick also installed a new electric motor, repaired my electric driveway gate, and put in an electric locking system on the electric driveway gate. He did the gate work for me in 2015. I am about to call him again this week to install an ornamental 7 foot iron gate with decorative panels. By the way, Patrick fixes those troublesome outdoor security locks that tend to get lose. Patrick's extremely efficient, professional, provides top quality work, quickly, and is extremely polite and courtesy even in difficult situations, e.g. dealing with last minute change orders, coordinating with tree stump removal guys, neighbors, sidewalk cement workers, narrow side yard spacing, etc. Patrick came out to the job site in Beverly Hills several times, on short notice, to address clients' new needs and was able to fabricate two different custom fences instead of one, including a metal fence with a privacy screen and a cedar fence, and still complete the job within the time frame expected. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to others in Beverly Hills or anywhere in the greater Los Angeles area, including my brother who owns horse property in Shadow Hills/Sunland. Today, March 17, seems like a good day to write a review for Shamrock Doors. I am a caregiver for an elderly gentleman. Recently he needed a new garage opener. I went to Shamrock Doors to buy the remote. Although I watched a video online to program the remote, I could not do it. It just would not work for me. The owner of Shamrock Doors, Patrick, was very kind and understanding and ultimately came over to my client's house without charging him. He had the remote working in no time. Very disappointed in Shamrocks work and customer service. Patrick was nice when seeking the job, during install, however when problem a problem arose and, things changed. He quoted me $75/per hour. They fixed the problem in 20 minutes, yet charged me $150. After the adjustment, the door was much louder than was previously. It also scrapped against the weather seal on the periphery of the door frame creating white plastic dust. This was new, but the door opened and I was told everything was okay. After a few weeks the door would not close because it was colliding with the weather seal and was clearly out of balance. When speaking to Patrick on the phone, he was seemed to be having a bad day. When he arrived to my house, he was very rude. He was pissed because I didn't tell him where I lived? Odd: He came over for the estimate (first time), for the install( 2nd time), and for the adjustment. If that wasn't enough, he had a text of my address, oh well. He began ranting about the Ford dealership and how he paid them 3 times to fix the same problem (they failed to repair it correctly the first two times) and he had to pay 3 times. He must have felt I wasn't going to pay. None the less, he closed my garage door and left without fixing the door. Highly unprofessional!
