I came here for the ayce weekend lunch buffet! I was very happy with the selection of dishes - many curry entrée options, meat options, a salad bar, masala chai (love), and other little entrees like samosas. I will say I got full very quickly, but enjoyed all the dishes I tried. service was very friendly and attentive, we got there bright and early on Saturday so it was pretty dead but maybe would fill up later in the day. The inside ambiance reminds me of ballroom seating - very classic Indian resteraunt style!

Went here for dinner one night. We tried a variety of curries, both vegetarian and meat based. Food was pretty mediocre, bland and didn't taste too fresh. Ambiance is quiet and empty, which was probably due to the quality of the food. Wouldn't come again given the amount of other delicious food in the area.

Mutton 'Biriyani' with green beans carrots and corn. No taste no salt. Bad rice. Just awful.

Biriyani was the worst I have ever tasted. You used a vegetable pulao and just added some meat to it. It had beans carrots corn and green pepper. Awful. I will make sure I post this review on every food website. Also dosa was missing the coconut chutney.

Weekend Lunch Buffet (everything is kept super warm and fresh!)

Came here for the weekend lunch buffet. For $19.95, they offer quite a few items. There's a salad bar, two types of dessert/sweets, masala chai, as well as ~10 types of entrees and appetizers. I was pleased by the high-quality vegetables included in the salad bar! The cucumbers, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes were all crisp, vibrant in color, and notably fresh. Our favorite entrees included the goat curry and mattar paneer. Their naan is the only thing made to order, but each food item in the buffet line is contained within a heating unit that allows everything to remain very hot. Even the samosas tasted like they were straight off of the stove. Service is a little slow, and we waited a while before flagging someone down for our check. Overall, Shan-A-Punjab is a great spot for lunch buffet to try an array of fresh, high-quality, and authentic Indian food.

The restaurant has a nice modern interior with a tasteful and welcoming vibe. It's located near a busy neighborhood and has a few off-street parking spots with plenty of street parking. The service can be a little slow, but I think they just don't want to be too much of a bother. The portions are very good and each dish had good flavors. We had quite a bit of leftovers and are looking forward to it!

I was thrilled to find an Indian buffet spot! A lot of them stopped offering buffet during the pandemic and never brought it back. Weekend lunch buffet is about $20 per person. For the buffet, they had rice, egg rice, chicken tikka masala, goat curry, a bean dish, a cauliflower dish, a paneer dish, small veggie samosas, tandoori chicken for the mains. There was also chai, dosas, and gulab jamun. You could get naan (garlic option too) for the table. Our server didn't know about the Yelp 10% discount but he still honored it. There is street parking and it seems like a there is also a very small lot for the restaurant too.

Shan-A-Punjab is a great spot! Upon arrival, the waiter brought out some complimentary papadum to the table, which was the perfect way to start out the meal. I really enjoyed trying the 3 sauces it came with, each of which had a totally different flavor. We ordered garlic naan, lamb curry, and duck vindaloo. The entrees came with plenty of rice, which helped to soak up the curry, in addition to the naan. If you're a fan of spice, order the curry spicy for a nice kick. Overall, it seems like this is more of a takeout spot, but the restaurant itself has a decent ambiance. I think it's worthwhile to dine in, even if just to try the papadum! Pro tip: I checked in on Yelp and received 10% off. I was impressed that they honored the discount, gold star in my book!

veggie or shrimp samosas 5/5 - so good! chicken kadai 3.5/5 rogan josh 4.5/5 This place was my saving grace during the pandemic when I had mad cravings for Indian food and didn't want to order from a place where delivery would take too long. Their veggie or shrimp samosas dipped in whatever curry dish are amazing. The samosas are always cooked well with a crispy outside layer that is well seasoned and filling that is flavorful. I had actually never gone to dine in the restaurant so I made it a point to go. The restaurant interior is quite nice with table settings that feel upscale. It wasn't busy when I went for dinner on a weekend. I've a feeling they receive many orders for delivery by the state of their back counter filled with online orders ready for pick up. Service was ok. Our host was polite, but took some time to take our order and get us our bill. We had to wave them over even though the restaurant wasn't busy for water refills or any requests that we had. The restaurant does have a small, small parking lot that fits maybe 5 cars. If the lot is full, there is also metered street parking.

Disappointed this time around. The chicken tikka masala was mostly sauce and few chicken pieces. For $18, I'd expect more than just sauce.

Will randomly cancel your delivery order with no explanation. If you do manage to get your food you'll get incredibly mediocre Indian food.

    What time does dinner start?

I'm not sure what you mean because they never close. They don't differentiate between lunch and dinner prices. They'd be open for 3 PM for "dinner" if you need it then.

What is the prices and hours of the buffet?

Generally speaking, lunch buffet for two during lunch has averaged just under $25, not including tax and tip. We've been there early between 11:30a-11:45a and as late as 2:30p-2:45p, during weekdays. Selection varies daily, we are extremely… Read more

The space is clean, stylish, and thoughtfully decorated, blending a chic Indian vibe with subtle Italian-inspired décor. It's a lovely setting, especially for date night or a more upscale dinner. That said, the food itself was... fine, but not standout. We spent about $60 on one appetizer, one shared entrée, and two pieces of naan, which feels a bit steep for what we got. I also left hungry. Highlights: The dahi puri was the star of the meal -- super refreshing, flavorful, and a perfect bite between richer dishes. The naan was well-seasoned, crisp on the outside, fluffy inside, and genuinely delicious. The butter chicken had a nice kick of spice but was otherwise surprisingly bland and lacked depth of flavor. If you've had a lot of Indian food (especially in the Cambridge area), this may fall a bit short. There are several nearby spots that offer more memorable flavors. If you're staying in or near Boston proper, Shanti in Dorchester and Sher-a-Punjab in Quincy are both stronger options. That said, Saanjh is very convenient for its location, which gives it an edge. Service: Service was quick, efficient, and genuinely warm. We had the pleasure of speaking with Saj (?) who was an absolute highlight of the experience. He was friendly, engaging, and went above and beyond -- even staying about 15 minutes past his break just to chat with us. He clearly cares about the guest experience and deserves serious recognition (and probably a raise!). Overall: Come here for the ambiance, service, and convenience. If exceptional Indian food is your top priority, there are better options nearby. Still, a pleasant experience overall, especially thanks to the great service.

Tonight, I added Momo Masala to that list. I was also fortunate to have friends who live nearby, and when I mentioned to them I was going (hopefully to invite them), they said it was one of their regular places for take-out. But they also informed me that they did not have a liquor license. But that recently changed!! They now offer beer, wine, cocktails, and whiskey pours - none of these are huge amounts, but there are certainly enough options for any of these. Our group of 4 did sample several cocktails. They aren't super fancy (though some drinks do have garnishes or salty/spiced rims), but everything is well crafted. Momos first, if course. They offer several varieties, but if you prefer yours steamed, read the menu carefully, as not all varieties are available steamed. We got vegetable and chicken momos, the chicken ones in a broth. Their medium level of spiciness provided a nice but not overwhelming kick. Our entrees continued the high quality. Their chicken tikka masala has a very dark and rich sauce, and the chicken chunks were tender. The lamb was equally good. The naan here (we got garlic) is very crisp, just the way I like it. This is a popular take-out spot, but there are enough tables to accommodate people who dine in conveniently, with a relaxing ambiance. This is another great add to the wide variety of dining options in Jamaica Plain.

The wrap wasn't a wrap as it wasn't folded in on the sides, but rather left as a roll up. Rice wasn't bad, but it was just more on the plain side. Things just tasted plain and not that flavorful. I don't wanna sauce to do that, I would much rather have the food presented itself as flavorful. The meat wasn't all that great texture, wise or flavor wise. Also, the bread that the rollup was for broke apart, and the taste was slightly subpar. I could've marked it as a 3 Star place. But in reality. I know I wouldn't be coming back here again. My only complaint is the little size for the samosa size. For our mains we got the short rib and the white butter chicken. The butter chicken could've used a bit more chicken for the price and was frankly a bit tough. The sauce was great. The short rib was flavorful and packed the perfect punch. Dipping the garlic naan in both sauces was my fav part!! Overall an ok experience. I want to give the restaurant grace because it was very packed but service was poor. I think we had 4 different staff members help us total which probably led to lots of miscommunication.
