Came by for lunch the other day and it was a mediocre experience. Alive and Kicking Lobsters is tucked away on an empty lot with a portable toilet, a random indoor dining area with unpainted walls and ceilings, along with a counter to order food. Opted for the lobster sandwich and corn on the cobb for lunch. Ordering was done at the counter and they take credit cards. Food was brought out to the table. The lobster sandwich was ok. Unlike typical lobster sandwiches that are served on a roll, this one was served between two slices of lukewarm toast. There was plenty of lobster inside. The corn on the cobb was ok. It was served with butter and I felt the corn was a touch lacking on flavor, maybe a pinch of salt? My dining companions opted for a pair of cooked lobsters that were served whole. As eating them proved challenging, staff came by to deshell the creatures for consumption! ~$50/head after tax and gratuity for lunch

Best value lobster place in Boston!! for 49 dollars, you get two whole lobster with clams, corn, and a side of butter. The lobsters are freshly steamed and so juicy. This is a much better deal than getting a lobster roll for 30+ dollars. The lobster is very easy to peal. There is only a portable bathroom here. It can get packed during rush hours.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! I lived nearby this spot 21(!) years ago and finally got back to have the legendary lobster sandwich. It's just as good as I remembered. The people were nice and there's more seating than there used to be. Price is steep but not outrageous given how much lobster you get!!!

One of the best lobster sandwiches in all of Boston! This place is no frills in the store is not too far off from a shack but the quality of the food speaks for itself. It's a really great lunch place with a couple picnic tables available to eat in the parking lot if you'd like. All the food is fresh and great, it's a tad bit expensive but lobster always is. The service is fast and to the point but you honestly couldn't ask for anything more. I'd definitely give this place a try if you're in the Boston area looking for some lobster!

This is a no-frills lobster shop with a separate dine-in area on the premises. First, you go inside the store to order and pay, then move to the dining area with your number. Someone will bring your food to your table afterward. The steamed lobster was very fresh and delicious, and it comes with melted butter only. I also had a side of coleslaw. Very reasonably priced! It was just a short Lyft ride from the hotel where we were staying.

There was so much food in Boston that I almost didn't have any room for lobster and clam chowder. However, you've got to try at least once and luckily I had some stomach ch room left to try the food here. I'm so glad my friend and I did! There was limited parking and the indoor order area is separate from the dining area. It's got the hole in the wall feels and it's not a lobster roll, but I would definitely recommend this place. The lobster was fresh and everything was delicious. The price wasn't bad either when you consider the price at more touristy establishments.

Needed to continue getting my lobster fix and came to Alive & Kicking Lobsters to do that. It did not disappoint! Ordered the Lobster Sandwich, Cooked Lobster, Bowl of Mussels, Seafood Chowder, and Clam Chowder. As expected, the Lobster Sandwich hit the spot. Haven't had it in sandwich form before, but it worked! Healthy chunks of lobster were contained in this sandwich. The cooked lobster was great too, especially for $20! They just steam a lobster and you do the work yourself, which was fine for me. Bowl of Mussels came with melted butter. Seafood Chowder and Clam Chowder were solid as well. Staff were nice and friendly. Wish there was more than one person who actually spoke English though. Definitely worth the visit if you're in the area!

Still dreaming of this spot. Unassuming truck with an eating area a little past MIT. Such delicious fresh seafood and dishes that are generously packed with meat. I loooved the lobster roll and clam chowder and my only regret was not getting more / not being able to fit more in my stomach. Staff are very sweet and helpful as you're thinking about your order and you can either grab food to go or eat easily in their little tables nearby.

You'd never expect a lobster shack in the middle of a residential area in Cambridge - like moving a small part of Hull into the city. Alive And Kicking is known for their densely-packed, no skimping on lobster meat sandwiches- with just a touch of butter on freshly toasted white bread. Delish and satisfying, comes with a side of kettle chips (of course). But they have a lot of other items to offer- boiled lobsters, corn, coleslaw, and chowder that you can dig into while sitting at one of the shaded tables outside, or bring home to enjoy. Do your grocery shopping here too and grab some raw clams, salmon, crabs to cook at home. Service is quick.

Well, I was in mood for lobster roll . I have visited Alive and licking lobster times before . It is clearly a unique place in unique location in a neighborhood down the street from a notable Chinese location Jahungar. Hey had a twin lobster special with two lobsters, corn, mussels, for 42 bucks... clearly looked good and everyone was ordering... I will order next time. This time ordered the seafood chowder, lobster sandwich. Seafood chowder was excellent and was pint size I think and a meal in itself which came with butter toasted bread as a nice touch vs. usual chowder crackers other places offer. Hit excellent. The lobster sandwich was disappointing, maybe as my last lobster rolls were eaten two months back in Maine with Redd's in Maine a winner. The lobster sandwich on toasted bread was dry , no mayo, no hot butter , no flavors, . I would have ordered hot butter to dip or spread on bread to moisten . Quick service. The eating area is an outdoor heated shed, building in rain puddles... if looking for ambience or a date attraction spot.. this ain't it. If need a quick lobster fix in Cambridge neighborhood and don't want underside to JW Hook for a tasty lobster roll .. this will do. The seafood chowder was a seriously good chowder and one I would take a quart home . The twin lobster special was a good deal and that is why the other warm shed dwellers were all eating. All were Asian diners, so clearly the word on the Asian Facebook in Cambridge eat the twin lobster, steamers special... Nice local small business and parking difficult, portable potty. Need to add wet naps to the shed location. You order inside , take number, sit in shed , they bring food when ready. I would add scallop rolls, scallop chowder, but they focus is lobster. I always try to support small businesses and the food here is reasonably priced and very good and not fancy restaurant prices or environment.

    Lobster Sandwich - $35

I really wanted to try a solid lobster roll while visiting Boston and Alive & Kicking Lobsters was recommended as an delicious place to stop by to fulfill that wish. I stopped by Alive and Kicking on a Wednesday around noon to check this place out. Parking seems to be mostly streetside to the restaurant, as it feels like its located just in a neighborhood as there are residential houses/apartments surrounding the location. Service is casual, you order your food at the cash register and they hand you a number, and then someone brings out your food to the corresponding tray, and you bus your own tables afterwards. As for food, the lobster sandwich was specifically recommended as the item to get while stopping by. This is a very solid lobster sandwich! As you can see in the photos, it is literally jam packed with lobster - there is no skimping, and the lobster is an inch thick from crust to crust. There isn't too much added to the lobster other than a slight bit of mayo I think, and also the bread is really plain too - which really highlights the freshness of the lobster. Each toothsome bite is satisfying, and you'll finish the sandwich before you know it. Though it is almost $40 for a sandwich, most places seem to offer an "overstuffed" lobster roll for a similar price that doesn't even have that much more lobster than the standard lobster roll. I would say for Boston, this was one of the better places that I've tried during my visit. Though the price may be hefty to some, you definitely get what you pay for! The sandwich is absolutely loaded with lobster and it tastes pretty fresh, a very solid lobster related option in comparison to the other rolls that I have tried so far in the area - I would definitely revisit if I'm in Boston and looking to splurge on a delicious lobster meal.

The lobster filling of the sandwich is good. The bread is well-toasted. Pretty standard Boston lobster sandwich/roll. The clam chowder had a decent amount of clams and potatoes. It came with a slice of buttered sourdough. The calamari salad was too sour for my taste. I ordered take out for a Saturday lunch. There was no line for ordering and the wait for the food was about 10 minutes. The place has some indoor and outdoor options. Very homey vibe.

Lobster Salad Sandwich - $32 and worth every penny! Yum. Comes with chips
    Jessica W.

Food: lobster sandwich comes with a bag of kettle chips for $32. This was my first lobster sandwich and I wasn't sure if I'd like it so our family of 3 split one as a snack. Also it was pricy for all of us to buy 3. Well it was so delicious that we fought over it! It tasted so fresh from the sea. My 16 year old would not give it up. Then in the afternoon I said what do you want for dinner and she's like "lobster sandwich". Service: hole in the wall place. Go up to the counter and order. They have square so credit cards accepted. Ambiance: there is a little shack with somewhat a/c but it wasn't that cool and smelled not great. There are picnic tables with umbrellas outside so we did that. Outhouse for the bathroom. We'll be back if ever in town!

Great lobsters wether you get the steamed lobster or sandwich. It's outside picnic table seating, so bring layers as it can get cold.

    Do they have beer?

Holdfast has better lobster rolls and they have beer

Will they pack up lobsters for me to carry on my flight home? Thanks!

Yes! They'll box it up and put it on ice. TSA opened my box to look at the ice, but then sealed it up with official TSA tape.

    How much should we tip?

I think it's mostly self serve and no table service, they just bring out the food to you as they do with takeouts. So, if you want to tip, I'd suggest 10-15% for "dining in" and $1-2 for takeout if you're feeling generous.

Do they still offer the daily special with two lobsters and mussels or steamers for $39?

    It's $41.95 as of Dec 2021

Is the lobster in the lobster sandwich served hot?

Bread is toasted. Lobster filling is not hot. Lobster meat, mixed with mayonnaise and probably some seasoning salt.

Does August 2018 count as fall for the fall special? Visiting 8.23.18

    It's 8.30.18 and I received 'the special'

Is the fall special still on? I'm looking to go in a couple of days. Looking for a good lobster spot. I'm open to new suggestions as well!

Yes it is! It's not on the menu but you can still order it.

Is there any indoor seating in winter?

We have outdoor seating in an enclosed area with a few heaters.

We arrived at their 4pm dinner open time and they said give them 10 minutes so we ended up at the new blank street location right next door. Once in and seated, our waitress was great! Marathon Monday vibes all around town. We took a seat in the window nook. My lady loves squid ink pasta and it's different than Japanese style (doesn't stain your teeth haha). We ordered + fried calamari + mussels siciliano + aglio olio We started with the complimentary bread, with olive oil, crushed red peppers and Parmesan! The calamari was next (my must order anywhere i go to taste). Light batter fried (didn't just fall apart thankfully) nice light and crispy. The squid was fresh, not cooked rubbery and tasted great with the marinara sauce (nice hint of spice). Now i wish the portion was a tad bigger but it was yummy. The mussels is the ladies go to, for an appetizer. It came out HOT, with a lemon white wine garlic sauce. Super tasty, mussels definite shine through without the sauce/broth overpowering the natural flavor of the mussel. She finished that up quick and i had a taste myself and agree with her assessment haha. And finally the Aglio Olio, squid ink pasta with minced squid and garlic. This was a perfectly balanced dish, came out HOT be careful of the pan. The pasta and squid just melted together so well. The caramelized butter/garlic with bits of minced squid just had you scraping the pan at the end to make sure you inhale them. Great meal for two. Very satisfied.
