I also got crab cakes to go ( they were nice and frozen for flight) if you're anywhere near this location it's a must do I did ask if they had frozen lobster to go she said not this week so I assume that just comes and goes. very friendly staff and nice picnic tables to eat on outside if you want to stay there. there is no indoor seating per se there's some tables in a tent structure and they do have a porta potty on site I was able to walk over there so it's just a nice place to sit and eat and enjoy. read more

Probably my favorite "seafood meal" from this trip! For about $50 and some change, you get 2 lobsters, steamed mussels (or clams) and 2 pieces of corn... GREAT deal in my opinion. The lobsters and mussels were steamed to perfection, and I enjoyed them very much. The lady at the cash register was very sweet and patient, and did let us know it would take a while as the seafood were steamed fresh. It came in about 10-15 mins, so it wasn't that bad. I could imagine the wait being longer if it was crowded. The only thing I wished was a little better was the seating/dining areas. The outdoor was nice with the picnic benches but it was way too hot to be outside. The indoor section looked like a middle school cafeteria shack...which was whatever. Overall, food and service were great, ambiance could be a little better! Appreciate the sink to wash your hands after eating. I love to a lobster roll/sandwich every time I go to Boston and this trip was no different. While a little out of the way, this place delivered! You order in the back and go find a seat. They bring it out when your order is ready. There indoor and outdoor seating which is nice especially in colder weather (which is when I came) to shield from the wind. I ordered the lobster sandwich ($32.95) which came with a bag of chips and it was very well filled and tasty. The seasoning was on point and didn't have too much mayo which highlighted the freshness of the lobster itself. Came by for lunch the other day and it was a mediocre experience. Alive and Kicking Lobsters is tucked away on an empty lot with a portable toilet, a random indoor dining area with unpainted walls and ceilings, along with a counter to order food. Opted for the lobster sandwich and corn on the cobb for lunch. Ordering was done at the counter and they take credit cards. Food was brought out to the table. The lobster sandwich was ok. Unlike typical lobster sandwiches that are served on a roll, this one was served between two slices of lukewarm toast. There was plenty of lobster inside. The corn on the cobb was ok. It was served with butter and I felt the corn was a touch lacking on flavor, maybe a pinch of salt? My dining companions opted for a pair of cooked lobsters that were served whole. One of the best lobster sandwiches in all of Boston! This place is no frills in the store is not too far off from a shack but the quality of the food speaks for itself. It's a really great lunch place with a couple picnic tables available to eat in the parking lot if you'd like. All the food is fresh and great, it's a tad bit expensive but lobster always is. However, you've got to try at least once and luckily I had some stomach ch room left to try the food here. I'm so glad my friend and I did! I cannot believe 5 years ago their famous lobster sandwich was $20. I even looked at the older photos where in 2013 it was only $15?!? Now today thanks to inflation, it costs $33 to get one of these sandwiches. It also seems like they don't put as much lobster meat as they used to, but it's still considered a steal considering how much a fine dining establishment or one of those tourist trap spots will charge. FYI: they do accept credit card, but their terminal wasn't working so they were doing cash only when I went, so helps to have cash handy. Ordered the Lobster Sandwich, Cooked Lobster, Bowl of Mussels, Seafood Chowder, and Clam Chowder. As expected, the Lobster Sandwich hit the spot. Haven't had it in sandwich form before, but it worked! Healthy chunks of lobster were contained in this sandwich. The cooked lobster was great too, especially for $20! It is clearly a unique place in unique location in a neighborhood down the street from a notable Chinese location Jahungar. This time ordered the seafood chowder, lobster sandwich. Seafood chowder was excellent and was pint size I think and a meal in itself which came with butter toasted bread as a nice touch vs. usual chowder crackers other places offer. Hit excellent. The lobster sandwich was disappointing, maybe as my last lobster rolls were eaten two months back in Maine with Redd's in Maine a winner. The lobster sandwich on toasted bread was dry , no mayo, no hot butter , no flavors, . I would have ordered hot butter to dip or spread on bread to moisten . Quick service. The eating area is an outdoor heated shed, building in rain puddles... if looking for ambience or a date attraction spot.. this ain't it. If need a quick lobster fix in Cambridge neighborhood and don't want underside to JW Hook for a tasty lobster roll .. this will do. I really wanted to try a solid lobster roll while visiting Boston and Alive & Kicking Lobsters was recommended as an delicious place to stop by to fulfill that wish. I stopped by Alive and Kicking on a Wednesday around noon to check this place out. Parking seems to be mostly streetside to the restaurant, as it feels like its located just in a neighborhood as there are residential houses/apartments surrounding the location. Service is casual, you order your food at the cash register and they hand you a number, and then someone brings out your food to the corresponding tray, and you bus your own tables afterwards. As for food, the lobster sandwich was specifically recommended as the item to get while stopping by. This is a very solid lobster sandwich! As you can see in the photos, it is literally jam packed with lobster - there is no skimping, and the lobster is an inch thick from crust to crust. There isn't too much added to the lobster other than a slight bit of mayo I think, and also the bread is really plain too - which really highlights the freshness of the lobster. Each toothsome bite is satisfying, and you'll finish the sandwich before you know it. Though it is almost $40 for a sandwich, most places seem to offer an "overstuffed" lobster roll for a similar price that doesn't even have that much more lobster than the standard lobster roll. I would say for Boston, this was one of the better places that I've tried during my visit. Though the price may be hefty to some, you definitely get what you pay for! Very unique experience in the heart of Cambridge. Lobster and crab sandwiches were great but I wish they offered a hot buttered version too. We also got the twin special. It's a bit pricey and parking can be difficult but it's worth trying at least once. I would recommend the bisque and sandwiches for sure. Unfortunately there can be a lot of flies and birds around. There's also a strange odor in certain parts of the covered/indoor section. Came here after spending my morning checking out the museums on Harvard's campus. The restaurant is pretty nondescript and is between two residential buildings. I ordered the lobster sandwich and a bowl of clam chowder. The lobster sandwich is made on two pieces of sourdough-esque bread and is filled with a chopped lobster situation (at most, IMO, seasoned with mayo, salt, and pepper). I thought it was fine, but a bit plain. When I was reviewing the yelp reviews, I came across many rave reviews of the bread. Sadly, I don't seem to be on the same page; it tasted like your average sliced sourdough loaf to me. In my humble opinion the hot, buttered lobster roll is far superior, but I am glad I tried this cold variant--I could see this hitting more on a hot summer day? I guess a plus is that this sandwich was a little cheaper than most lobster sandwich/roll places throughout Boston...maybe by $10. The clam chowder was excellent, though, and I appreciated that the clam flavor was actually detectable and not overshadowed by the cream and milk. The chowder served with buttered toast points made from the same bread used to make the lobster sandwich, which was a nice upgrade from oyster crackers. As a kid, I was obsessed with the word "amazeballs." I would drop it into conversation any chance I can get. I can think of no more fitting word for Alive & Kicking than "amazeballs" and you should come here if you're in the Boston/Cambridge area. (Especially now that it's summer. Eating one of their sandwiches in the sun, along with an iced tea, is my idea of perfection.) I've always been more of a crab gal so even though the lobster sandwich did look very intriguing, I'm glad I stuck with the crab sandwich. Tender, enormous chunks of super sweet crab flesh, no hint of fishiness. I had no trouble at all finishing this. Indeed, after eating it, I stared longingly at other people getting their orders and thought to myself, Dang, I can eat another one. I liked the lobster sandwich (don't call it a roll) but highly recommend the crab. We also ordered the lobster bisque to try and it was good and creamy. I wish they served it with the oyster crackers instead of bread but that's a tiny nit. Next time, I'd get the crab sandwich and maybe a platter of the steamers. They have four picnic tables set up out front, along with a canopied indoor seating section. Parking is a little tough - two or three narrow slots in front of the entrance. This is the only place that I know around the area that serve the lobster meat in between two slices of bread rather than your typical hot dog/sub roll. I personally love this style because it helps accentuate the flavor and freshness of the lobster while giving you the crunch and butter from the thinly toasted white bread. They also give you a LOT of meat! I think each sandwich is packed with at least 6oz of lobster meat while a lot of the places give around 4oz. The lobster sandwich on 7/21 was $32. As a person educated in Cambridge, MA, working in NYC and living in New Jersey, I always have some nostalgia for my days in graduate school -including foods in New England. On my travel back to Boston after 20 years, I stop by Alive & Kicking Lobsters, located 2 min away from where I used to live. We could park in front of a two-story single family house, which was converted to a counter with semi-outdoor and outdoor table area. I tried a lobster sandwich, a New England Clam Chowder, Calamari Saldads, and a cream soda with the label of 'Alive & Kicking Lobsters' on it. The lobster itself was very fresh and paried well with a coleslaw sauce. However, I cannot say that the bread was as good as what I tried in NY and NJ (my standard for a lobster roll is 'Maine Roll' by Cousins Maine Lobster). $30+ for one sandwich seems a bit steep. 4+ The NE Clam Chowder was very good, reasonably priced and enough for two persons. 5+ The Calamari salads was also very fresh, nicely seasoned with oil and vinegar. I wish a fewer olives but more calamari. 4+ With a delivery truck and fishing equipment on the lot, I felt like I had indeed fresh sea foods caught and prepared by the owner. Absolutely delish. First time I came to Boston, my friends and I chose this place for lobster rolls and I couldn't forget the deliciousness of it. Fast forward 7 years later, I came back again but this time with my parents and not realizing it was the same place I've tried many years back. As we were driving in, I immediately recognized the small lot for 2-3 cars and felt nostalgic. Their lobster rolls (actually called lobster sandwiches) are absolutely delish. The amount of lobster meat in the sandwich was so worth the price ($29.95) and so tasty. The toast of the sandwich was the perfect amount of crispy that complimented the abundance of lobster meat. Also came with a bag of chips. We got the clam chowder which we tried dipping the lobster sandwich in and wow it was a nice yummy combination. We also got the special which included a steamed lobster and a couple of mussels that came with butter and some pickled dip (?) which were okay and didn't leave as a big impression as the lobster sandwiches did. It was my first time in Boston and a former resident recommended this place. It's a tiny hole-in-the-wall type spot with only two parking spots. (Parking in the area is difficult except on Sundays). It was a cool twist on the traditional lobster roll you're used to! The sandwich was jam packed with lobster meat. The bread seemed a little stale but somehow the sandwich wasn't dry at all.
