The State Room has become a staple in my life, a place I return to time and time again. There's something truly special about this establishment. Personally, I first visited after a trip to Shands General, and I was immediately drawn in by the ambiance. The restaurant is so beautifully done--elegant yet inviting, offering a distinct vibe that sets it apart from the usual Patchogue Village spots. It's the kind of place where the crowd is just right--neither too young nor too old, creating the perfect atmosphere for a quiet, enjoyable night. Though we've mostly come for drinks and dessert after work, the experience has been nothing short of delightful. The Panacotta is a standout for me, although I do miss the strawberry one you used to offer upstairs--still my all-time favorite! We also indulged in the sweet potato purée cheesecake, which was wonderfully balanced--rich but not overly sweet, just the way I like it. Their drink menu changes frequently, which keeps things exciting. One drink I had was exceptional, with mole bitters--it was sophisticated. I believe it was called Yay Pepi! (or something along those lines ). My boyfriend opted for The Colonel, a more classic, bold choice, and he enjoyed it as well--a drink that's definitely made for those who like a strong, masculine flavor profile. I can't wait to come back and experience their brunch offerings--brunch is one of my favorite meals, and I have no doubt it will live up to the high standards the State Room consistently sets. It has the potential to be great. Shands General is gorgeous. The place is immaculate, the staff are phenomenal (seriously, the best), the presentation is 10/10. They've almost got it all right- Apps: hummus is great. The French onion soup is good but different- maybe not the best choice if you're expecting classic French onion. Duck wings are awesome. Bread is $8 which is kind of silly for 4 little pieces of bread. Cheese plate is small- order two if you have a large group. Entrees: salmon is underwhelming. Nothing special about the dish, wouldn't get it again. Pasta is pretty good but again underwhelming. Steak, ehh. Pork, ehhh. Honestly no stand out dishes here. The menu reads like a Michelin but performs like they're nervous in the kitchen. Dessert: pavlova is pretty good. Again wouldn't come back for it. Drinks: I actually took a picture because it was so absurd. The drinks are all ice. I got a mocktail and it was $12 for a CUP OF ICE. Absolutely unacceptable to charge $12 for 1oz of juice! The cocktails were similar but obviously you're getting alcohol. read more

The service was great! The place is beautiful and we could talk in a comfortable manner. We both ordered one of our favorites, chicken and waffles. The waffle was cold with a small piece of over cooked, deep fried chicken lying sadly on top of the soggy cold waffle. Definitely not one of the chefs best. We had our company Christmas party at Shands General and I couldn't be happier that we did. The venue is absolutely beautiful and our room was perfect. We had 23 people and there was plenty of room for everyone. We did the pig roast and it was excellent. All of the food was outstanding. The servers were very attentive and a lot of fun to be around. I received a lot of kudos at the office for choosing Shands. I am certain that we will be doing more events here and recommend this restaurant to everyone. My wife and I will be making Shands one of our regular spots for a nice night out. Try the parker house rolls. They are hot out of the oven and will melt in your mouth. For an app I recommend the korean wings and the calamari, both delicious. Fine dining at its best! read more

We moved out of state so when we came back to Long Island, we wanted to give it a try since the brick house used to be our old stomping ground. We had four of us for brunch. What I can say is the food is very bland. I don't think they do any seasoning on anything. I got a cup of coffee and then it took him 10 more minutes to get me some cream to put in the coffee there's no salt and pepper on the table they bring that to you but you C have to ask for it. I don't know. It seems to me like they're trying to be an upscale restaurant, but it's definitely missing something in the flavor of the food. The hashbrowns were no better than what you get at McDonald's. I had the avocado toast, which was OK but once again, really no flavor give it a try. See what you think. read more

Oh, Shands... I wanted to like it SO bad! I had the pleasure of dining at The State Room and enjoying the tasting menu there earlier this year and so I was very excited to try Shands General. The restaurant itself is beautiful and inviting and the service was great as well. My group and I were just very underwhelmed by the food. We had the sourdough and whipped ricotta, oysters, and the steak tartine to start. They weren't bad, at all, but there was nothing memorable about them. The rictotta tasted pretty standard, the bread was OK, and the steak tartine tasted basically like a chopped philly cheese steak. For entrees, two of us got the cod and grits, both the grits and the fish were incredibly underseasoned. We asked for salt and pepper but honestly even that wasn't enough. Neither of us could eat more than a quarter of the dish before just giving up. The fish tasted almost sous vide, without anything added to give it any flavor. Another friend had the pomodoro, which she described as bland and another friend had the hanger steak, which was the only thing that was truly enjoyed. We hoped dessert would get better and we tried the cheesecake and the panna cotta. The panna cotta was OK, the cheesecake was good standard cheesecake. Overall, the ambiance and service at Shands are there but the food just isn't. I really hope it improves in the future, but I will probably just stick with The State Room for now. read more

We popped into Shands General for some quick pre-dinner cocktails and were disappointed that we had to leave for our dinner reservation elsewhere. The decor of the restaurant is absolutely beautiful and everyone from the hostess to the bartenders to the passing waitstaff greeted us with smiles. We decided to try two of the Necessary Evils off the cocktail menu. It was the most refreshing mix of honeydew, cucumber, lemon, honey, lemongrass and a splash of vodka - the perfect summer drink! Each of the bartenders on staff stopped over to make sure we were well taken care of. We looked over the menu while we sipped our drinks and already have some menu items mentally bookmarked that we can't wait to return to try. I was really excited to try this place since I live in the area and have heard great things online. It has a different vibe than most other spots in Patchogue--more in line with the places I like to frequent--so I was especially looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit of a letdown. When we arrived, we were told our table wasn't ready and were directed to the bar, but the hostesses forgot about us. If we hadn't followed up, I'm not sure we would have been seated--disappointing for a nicer restaurant, especially since it wasn't that crowded and I was pretty hungry. They were also out of a drink we wanted and a dessert we wanted, which put a damper on the experience. That may have been due to Valentine's Day being a few days prior, but it was still disappointing. On the bright side, the food was good, and our server was wonderful--she really made up for a lot of the experience. Overall, I wanted to love this place, but it didn't quite live up to expectations. read more

Giving this place five stars doesn't do it justice. I came in here on a whim as I was waiting for a reservation for another restaurant and wanted to get a quick drink. I took a look at the menu and the drink selection and decided to stay for my entire meal I came in during brunch on the weekend and can say that my experience was very pleasant. The staff was very friendly. The food was delicious and my cocktail was also delicious. The ambience of the restaurant was very nice. The seats were comfortable at the bar and I'm looking forward to definitely trying this restaurant for dinner one day if you're looking to find an upscale restaurant and great friendly staff that you could see yourself being friends with then I would definitely check out this establishment read more

Beautiful build out and it's not just good looks. Acclaimed Long Island chef doesn't disappoint with a fun and refined menu, with the front of house to properly present and make everyone from the bar to restaurant feel at home. Enjoyed everything that came out. Tahini dressing on the salad was amazing. Steak frites with the pork steak as well as the eggplant were standouts. We'll def be back. read more

Had dinner there last night.ordered the whipped ricotta app, oysters & chop cheese tartine..all were delicious BUT they would be better served at once rather than one app at a time. Entrees were scallops delicious, chitarra pomodoro,clams & linguine & the Shands burger.We asked if the chef would replace the spaghetti with rigatoni & was told NO. Definite disappointment.The Shands burger was good tho the taleggio overpowered the burger.. the fig jam onion combo on the burger was delish.The chitarra was disappointing. It was bland & clearly lacked seasoning.The spaghetti & linguine was delicious..roasted corn was lacking in seasoning..the eggplant chips were exceptional tho didn't need sauce on bottom of dish. The restaurant gives has a NYC vibe & the decor is on point. Our waitress was good she just forgot to ask if anyone wanted more drinks during dinner.Portion size was small tho I would recommend this place. This has very power lunch/ dress up dinner vibes which is nice. It does get pretty packed - especially at the usual dinner time periods so id recommend a reservation. If you have someone who isn't an adventurous eater - I'd also look through the menu before coming so you can see what's available. They usually have a burger on there as the "safe" choice - but sometimes they can get a little fancy with it which might not be to everyone's liking (but they do accommodate dietary restrictions if you have them). The food was good and the staff was excellent and their mixologists are fantastic. Their drinks are delicious and strong - which makes sense with the stateroom reputation. My only "rub" is that it's one of those small plates/big prices - and where I loved everything at stateroom - there were so not as high note dishes/apps that I've had. If you are looking for a step up from the norm in Patchogue this is the place to be! It has some of the special touches from its sister restaurant The State Room along with its own takes on food for the whole family! They just have done really everything right! Their attention to detail is amazing, right down to their music being played at a volume that adds to the ambience and even allows for conversation at our table! The decor is beautiful throughout! Best restaurant I have been to in a long while. Over the top service, no short cuts and the food all freshly prepared, prime quality meats, farm fresh or local stock when available. Most restaurants have cut the choices on their menus to save money in this bad economy but not here. Prices are very fair considering the quality of the meal and the cost to prepare it. Yes there is a big difference using butter versus margarine or oil. Wish the restaurant was closer to where I live but it is worth the drive. Thank you for a wonderful evening. Unfortunately several "fine dining" places I've been to in LI are "all squeeze and no juice". The ambiance is great but food is lacking. Shands is 100% top notch across the spectrum. Beautiful restaurant, exceptional service and unmatched great food. With a table of 4 we really could explore the menu. The beef tartare was amazing. Accompanied by a marrow bone flamed at the table it was a blend of flavors that was superb. The special egg plant app was so great they need to put it on the daily menu. Mains were excellent. Recommend the beef and fried chicken. The scallops were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Portions were right sized. Servers were knowledgeable about the menu and spot on in their recommendations. If last night is any indication, this the place for anything from a romantic dinner for 2 to a family gathering for dinner. It was easily one of top 5 restaurant I've been to this year. read more

Another great restaurant to go to. Went to Shand's with a 6:00 reservation on a Friday night. Arrived here around 5:00 and had drinks at the bar during their Happy Hour. Four of us altogether and two had the Old Fashioned, one had the Daiquiri and I had a martini. Drinks were top notch, especially given they were off the Happy Hour menu. Old Fashioneds were exceptional with the necessary Luxardo-style cherry. The ambiance is a perfect blend of old-time cocktail bar and with a slight Manhattan vibe. It's comfortably lit and welcoming. We were pleasantly surprised with the delicious Duck Wings, Crispy Eggplant and Beet Hummus. I personally would get the duck wings and crispy eggplant, not the beet hummus but the other couple really liked it. Dinner choices were the Rigatoni, Clams and Linguine and the Shands Burger with crispy thin french fries. All were delicious although be aware portions are on the smaller side. Service throughout from hostess to bartender, waiter and manager were superb. I will definitely be back. Having two five star restaurants at the same address (The State Room is upstairs, entrance on the side) is unheard of. So happy both of these restaurants are close by to me. read more
