Meh....All I can say is that. This was my 1st visit to a Shane's Rib Shack. We decided on a carry out order. This particular location in Gainesville opened a while back. Hadn't tried it yet. I've heard mixed reviews from others about Shames, so we figured to give it a go. Wow....and not particularly in the good way. My wife and I both ordered the 1/2 chicken. The meat was dry and over cooked. Couldn't even attempt to finish it. I had beans and slaw for sides. They were average. Not bad. Just your average BBQ sides. My wife had fries and beans. She enjoyed the fries and agreed the beans were average. My son and daughter had the 1/2 rack rib plate and 1/2 chicken, respectively. He was not very complimentary of the ribs. My daughters chicken was like a completely different thing compared to mine and my wife. Her chicken was tender and juicy. That made me believe we got served chicken that had been sitting there a while. I would have hoped to really enjoy this place since it was fairly new and a recognizable chain of BBQ restaurants. But I really can't honestly say I will return here. Maybe it was a fluke. Maybe this is the SOP for this location. Either way, not the best experience or BBQ in the area. read more

Wow, an excellent find while visiting Gainesville Georgia. We had company over at our rental cabin and no one felt like cooking. We ordered chopped BBQ chicken and pork. 1.5# each. Came with 9 slices of Texas toast . More.meat then we needed but we were glad to have it. The meats were very moist and lean, often lean isn't moist so we were particularly pleased..it reheated beautifully. Potato salad, and I am particular about this, was a big surprise. Not bland with no real taste. Very, very tasty My niece, who is quite selective with food compliments, loved the Mac and Cheese Had we not had left overs, we would have gone back!! read more

Excellent service and very friendly staff. The sides (Okra, onion rings and sweet potato fries) were very good. The ribs were a major disappointment. Both the wife and mine were dry and hard. Especially the meat along the top of the rib. It was like it had been sitting out under a heat lamp for an extended time. It was NOT fall off the bone and took a lot of sauce to make it edible. I've had ribs at a Shane's before and they were better. If I go back I'll stick with the pulled pork. read more

Food was hard and dry. Ice cold and absolutely inedible. They closed at 8 and it seems like they just threw in whatever they had sitting out. The Mac and cheese was way over cooked and just mushy. Will not be ordering again. read more

The lady at the checkout was very friendly with great customer service. She made sure that my food was prepared properly from the notes that were sent in with the order. Ribs were amazing! First time trying out this restaurant, will go back again soon. Highly recommend this location for ribs. I had got a full rack of ribs with no sauce and two salads as my sides. Shane's never disappoints! Their chicken tenders are amazing and go extremely well with the honey mustard. I wish a Shane's would open up in our area because I have missed their delicious food. The food is well cooked and is good quality. Don't forget to get some extra Shane seasoning salt which is use on the tenders! read more

Went in last evening at 7:49. Lyla, our cashier/ host crossed her arms and didn't speak. Just looked at us until we spoke. The cashier and another employee were abrupt even with each other. My chicken was cold and tasteless. Ribs were good. While we ate, the other employee with whom our cashier seemed tense, swept the floor directly toward us. Didn't leave room around us to prevent dust getting on us or in our food. We may as well have been invisible to her. When we were leaving there was no thank you, or goodbye, or come back and see us. I left feeling as if my wife and I had angered them by coming in. We drove 22 miles to this store because we love Shane's, and because the store has 4.5 stars. BBQ is something that should be hard to mess up, yet some places somehow manage to do just this. FORTUNATELY Shane's is not one of them! I have tried countless BBQ places around the country, many in Georgia, and most of them are good, some terrible, but Shane's is definitely a good one. All of their BBQ dishes are great, not a single one of their side dishes is bad. I've eaten in several of their restaurants in the area, never had a bad experience, some of them even know me by name. I even had them cater my daughter's wedding in Gainesville (everyone was thrilled with their food!) I've read here some people complaining about dry smoked chicken. Like this is something unexpected. I have never once had smoked chicken or turkey that ISN'T dry at any BBQ place. Why anyone would want to eat dried smoked chicken is beyond me. That's not what BBQ is about. Have you tried the smoked tofu? I hear it's great! Not. If you want good BBQ try their ribs or pulled pork. Their baked beans, potato salad, and stew are all excellent too. read more

First time there today to pick up lunch with my coworkers. Ordered the pork melt sandwiches with fries and drinks. The service was great, very accommodating. I was craving a burger and feeling lazy not wanting to leave the house simultaneously a few days ago. I logged into Doordash to check my options, wanting a good burger (not fast food) but also not wanting a chain steak restaurant's burger either. I found Shane's Rib Shack and got their cheeseburger with a side of Brunswick Stew. Both were excellent and left me wondering why I hadn't tried these guys before and what was I going to order when I go there this weekend for lunch. Hidden gem in a rapidly growing area of Gainesville. Was worried stopping since they had no reviews and in a strip center in the parking lot of a carwash... Could not be happier that I "risked" it. Was greeted upon door opening with a hello and welcome and continued to improve from there. Decorated with lots of pics of family that I assume are Shanes and the shack where it all started was very friendly and homely. Great service as we ordered and sat down waiting for our food.... took 10 mins max from order to table... 1/2 Rack of perfectly cooked, well seasoned ribs with the best Barbecue sauce lightly applied. Most places lather it on so much you lose the flavor of the rib... this is perfect application! 1/2 Chicken that was literally fall off the bone delicious. Sides of potato salad and collard greens. Most places have no idea how to slow and long cook the greens.... Shane was raised right... Greens were fantastic, I like my greens cooked to soft... These are and well seasoned to boot. Pot salad is decent but I am a pot sal snob and have never found any store bought that I like.... I can eat this one! Spent $25 for two of us... We shared the 1/2 chix-1/2 slab platter. We stopped here on our drive home to FL from NC. Definitely worth the stop! Prices, food, service and decor/cleanliness was all top notch! We ordered kids chicken tenders with Mac and cheese for our picky eater 12 yo and he raved about it. My husband had the smothered pork sandwich with side baked beans and said it was delicious. My teenage son got the pork sandwich and loved it. I had the pork plate with side of okra and green beans. More than enough food and all the sides were hot and delicious. We tried Brunswick stew and was impressed as well. The quality of the food and the prices are like no other we've seen!!! Look forward to stopping again on our next visit to NC!! read more

If I had the option of a negative star, I would choose it. We went to the Gainesville, GA location this evening for the very first (and last) time. The place was not busy, maybe 5 tables occupied, and 2 people waiting for already-placed to-go orders. Our order was finalized (according to the receipt) at 7:31 p.m. At 7:55, I asked the nice girl behind the counter if we were supposed to pick our order up or if it would be brought to us (wanted to make sure we hadn't missed our name being called). She assured me that it would be brought to our table. At 8:15, she walked by our table and I asked if she could check on our order. Within 2 minutes our order was "ready" and she brought it to our table. The food was completely cold and when I told her, she offered to "recook" it. Not a chance. We waited for 45 minutes for cold food, we were way beyond ready to leave. So, I asked for a refund. She took our receipt to the front and we walked up to get the refund. The manager gave us our receipt and asked what happened. I told her the food was cold and had to have been sitting out for a period of time. The only "excuse" she could give was, "I am not sure, I have been here processing the refund". Hmmm, really. The health department also should look into this establishment. Every single table was filthy. We had to wipe our own table before sitting down. I thought restaurants were expected to follow guidelines for cleaning. It isn't like this place was covered up. There were ketchup packets strewn all over the bar next to the drink area. Most of the tables were without napkins. One wall looked like someone had spit chocolate milk all over the wall. The back booth (close to the restrooms) had something all over the floor/under the table with a very foul odor. We almost sat down there and noticed the leak and smell and moved elsewhere. That really should have been our first clue to get out of there. But, we thought we would give it a chance. Bad idea. read more
