It is a busy Sunday afternoon and most quick eateries are overwhelmed and showing it. But not this team here at the Cumming Captain Ds. I have to say this is the most pleasant and upbeat staff I've seen in fast food in years. If I'd only gone through the drive thru, I may have missed the dynamics. But the charisma and professionalism were on full display as I waited on my meal in the lobby. This team stepped in to help each other and help customers seamlessly. It was beautiful to watch. We eat here on a fairly regular basis, and have seen things slowly decline as far as the customer service. The food itself is decent and they have a great senior menu. However, tonight we went through the drive-up and ordered our food, got it home and we were missing the butterfly shrimp and the piece of spicy fish. I went back, actually went into the store since the drive-up line was long, and when I finally got up to the register and told them what I was missing, they looked at me blankly with no idea of what to do. The manager was in the kitchen cooking, and he asked through the window what was going on, and I told him we were missing those food items. He said he made them, and I said they did not make it in my bag. He asked what I wanted, and I said either my money back or fresh food. He said it was going to take a while, as there were other orders ahead of mine! No apology, no explanation as to where this food disappeared to, and they were unable to refund my card due to the "time lapse" nor would they give me any cash back. I have never been so disrespected in my life, as far as customer service. I had 3 young men staring at me and arguing with me about my order, and the manager never came out of the kitchen to make things right. Amber has to be the most friendly, bubbly, competent young lady I have ever seen at a ANY place of business. We were here Friday at the end of the evening, and my husband was chatting with her. She was super sweet even though she had been here about 10 hours and still had a little bit before store was closing. I know times are tough hiring people, but she's a keeper. We had such a good experience, we are back today only 2 days later! Food was excellent and sweet tea (I'm very fussy about) was still perfect! The thing that took off one star is that the grease in this food is unbelievable! I felt sick if I didn't dab it off with a napkin! Other than that, the inside of this fast food spot was clean, the service was a wait because of the hand breaded nature of what I ordered and the food overall tastes good. I would recommend asking employees what foods are breaded and fried there and which come in frozen and are then fried. I would usually give this place 5 stars but I do not know if this is the fault of Google or if the store has changed it's hours. Week days they are open until 10 PM but when I stopped by tonight it was closed and it was 9:15 PM. The parking lot was almost empty and the manager mentioned to me through the drive thru speaker that they were closed at 9 PM. It was a waist of gas and not to mention the disappointment to go out there just to find out they were not open. It was a mistake to have eaten here. The food was horrible. Usually I can eat the fish, but even it fell short this visit. The dining room was seemingly full of distressed homeless people. The fries gave always suffered from a mysterious dishwater flavor. The slaw was the best thing on the plate, which has never been the case before. Hush puppies were fair and though served hot had little flavor as they were without corn or onion and nothing but cornbread. The restaurant is old and has a permanent grease sheen that thickly adhered to walls, tables and floors. read more

My husband and I stopped in for lunch today while we were waiting for our new tires to be installed next door. Nikisha was working and to say that she was amazing, is an understatement! Food wasn't as hot and fresh as previous visit for takeout. Ordered a wild salmon with a side shrimp skewer with the rice and ate into a piece hair that was mixed in which was not mine. Lost my appetite and tossed out the rice to the wild critters. Fried green tomatoes were good though. read more

I hate writing bad reviews. And keep in mind, your experience may differ. It was a very, very slow night. There may have been two cars in the parking lot. That should have been my first omen. Secondly this was a drive-thru order. I should have given my order the sniff test on the spot. When I got home and opened the contain, it reeked of rancid cooking oil. It wasn't the fish, it was clearly the oil. If you do much cooking, you know the smell of which I speak. Anyway, I was very disappointed. Doubt I'll be back any time soon. 01/04/2012, 8:00PM Update. Got a call from the owner. It was a very good conversation. He was genuinely interested in my experience. NOW THAT'S CUSTOMER SERVICE !!! I love this great little seafood place. Let me be clear this is no fine dining; this is a fast food fish joint. D really has mastered the beer battered fried seafood item. They have 'lighter, non-fried items' but that's not why I come here. If you need your fix of fried goodness, get a couple of pieces of fish, cole slaw, fries and some hushpuppies. You will need to wipe your hands on some paper towels (they keep a roll on each table). The staff walks around refilling your drinks. Your cholesterol might go up by 100 points but for the occasional gluttony of all things fried, Captain D's is a winner in my book. read more

I have been going here for over 20 yrs! The last two visits have been very disappointing. As always I ordered the Fish and Chicken dinner- the Fish was as skinny as a fish stick! & the Chicken was more like a Nugget! I would rather pay more $$ and get a decent portion then to receive Fish sticks & chicken nuggets! Also, on both occasions the Bathroom was very dirty & smelly, not very appetizing before a meal. As good as it gets when it comes to deep fried heaven. Fish & chips are awesome and, even though it's fast food, better than you'll get at some pricey seafood restaurants. Big portions and great prices. You won't be disappointed. They have a LOT of side items to choose from w/healthy choices like mixed veggies, salad and green beans. Their broiled shrimp, chicken and fish is just as good as their fried. Because they do have healthy options and healthy sides, we eat here more often than we would if it were just fried fish. The wait for this place can go from 10-20 minutes . The food is usually served hot. When ordering from drive up the staff always try's to encourage you to order more items. It's kind of rude. The sweet tea is never sweet I always have to add packet sugar. Some of the staff is nice to talk with. Some will just close the the drive up window on you. It's very odd behavior. My wife and eat here about twice a month. All the staff is super friendly, and seem to always know what my wife orders. I like that touch. The orders are cooked when you order them....so nothing is pre-cooked and cold. If y'all wanna eat on the cheap....it will prolly be under $12.00 for complete dinner for 2 . No tipping required(unless you wanna)and since the re-modeling the restaurant looks fresh and updated. For seniors out there they cater to us. Specially priced value meals with drinks. The fried okra is excellent, as is the slaw. Give this place a try next time y'all get a hankerin' for fried fish !!! read more

Was here yesterday, 04/29/18 had a coupon , 2 can dine 9.99 2 Pieces of fish each, 2 sides each and each 2 hushpuppies , well I get to the drive thru and I realize coupon is for Long John silvers and I tell the drive thru girl how I Just realized the coupon my family member gave me was for long John silvers and I'm at Captain D's lol and I asked speak to a manager since when I asked her if they have any coupons like that one and or does have on mobile app Captain D's and she say she don't know so manager comes out to my car at drive thru I explain and he says for me pull to window he will go see what coupons they have and actually had better one was same as long John silver I had Except was for 3 pieces each of fish not 2 so Captain D's Have Better Deal anyway. 5 stars for the manager being extremely nice and professional. This is a fast food place to start with. With such low expectations, I still cannot give this place much more than two stars. In all fairness, I will admit I am not a fast food eater. I wonder how they keep the cost so low for something edible. As an experience, the staff was exceptionally nice, friendly, actually happy to be there and should get 5 stars. If you like food to slide down or off your dish, then this is the place for you. Deep fried greasy heaven with flour and lard encrusting what looked like white fish. The lard/grease combination infused the fish, the hush puppies, grease balls...Big portions of ...grease. What surprised us was the number of retirees eating this stuff. Maybe they ordered something different but that is between them and their cardiologist. If you go order a baked potato and sweet tea. No grease in them. read more
