The absolute highlight of the meal was the braised beef shank--so tender, rich, and packed with flavor. We finished with the chocolate bao, which was the perfect sweet ending. The sticky rice shu-mai were probably my favorite but all the dumplings I tried plus their youtiao (long Chinese fried dough) were perfectly fine. The interior is thematically Chinese but clean and modern--a bit impersonal and plain to be honest, but fine. You can see in the back where they actually are making their dumplings (and likely also their noodles) through an open window into the kitchen which is charming plus a little bit of a flex yeah that hey, they are making all this from scratch. Service was not horrible but a bit slow and it was early into the lunch hour and they were not really busy, either. Would I recommend? Amazing dumplings! I stumbled upon this place, just randomly driving and decided to come and check it out. The dumplings were absolutely delicious. Wow! Doesn't look like much from the outside but the interior is awesome. Done in modern Asian fusion the inside is welcoming and almost sterile. When i looked up soup dumpling tampa and this place popped up, I went with some friends and it didn't disappoint. We arrived and got immediately seated and the menu was full of options. I went with the chicken soup dumplings and chicken hibachi while my friends got shrimp and the pork. The food was quickly brought out after ordering. The restaurant has decent soup dumplings with a lot soup and thin skin dumplings. One thing I don't like is they may the top of the dumplings too thick in skin. It is not the traditional 16 folds. I literally didn't know this place existed here. It's in the previous hot pot place. And let me tell you that this place is the new neighborhood fav because business is poppin! Our wait time was about 20 minutes and the crowd keeps flowing in. You sign in on the kiosk when you arrive and they text you when your table is ready. Service is pretty fast. The soup dumplings is the obvious winner out of all that we tried. If we do go back we will just get the soup dumplings and the fried rice. Those were our favorites. Who doesn't love potstickers & noodles? For lunch we scurried into Shanghai Dumpling House. The interior was very clean & modern. When we initially arrived they had just opened. We were seated & it was funny to see 4 workers sitting at a back table all just looking down at their IPhones. I kept watching & after a few minutes one looked up. I stared at her & she understood we were sitting & waiting on someone to take our order. So she nudged another worker who then got up to wait on us. Such a sign of the times, lol. We ordered Udon Noodles with chicken, along with pan fried pork potstickers. The udon noodle dish was just average. The potstickers though tasted extremely fresh. I have been distraught because my favorite Chinese restaurant but I've been going to for so long closed recently. Finding Shanghai Dumpling House really softened the blow. I've had a chance to try a good deal of their menu and overall I'm impressed. My absolute favorite is the pan fried dumplings, which come with a crispy lattice work on the bottom that is so delicious. I've also tried their pork buns, udon noodles, and wonton. All good. The thing I was most excited about was the soup dumplings and I actually think they are just "OK". They honestly pale in comparison to the pan fried dumplings. But nothing I've had here is bad. I also love how when you get a to-go order everything is put inside of an insulated bag and each soup dumpling is in an individual wrapper that helps contain any soup leakage. Okay, we've been to Shanghai Dumpling House twice in one week, so that should tell you something. The soup dumplings are legit. They're made fresh in-house, and the fillings are generous. The chicken soup dumplings were the star for me: soft wrappers, super flavorful broth inside, and actually packed with filling (not skimpy at all). The chicken and mushroom pan-fried dumplings had that perfect crispy bottom and juicy center. So good. The sauce was strong in vinegar for me so we skipped that . The cucumber appetizer was light and refreshing, with a dab of Sriracha. The chicken udon was comforting and satisfying. The only thing I'd tweak was the fried rice , we had the chicken and vegetable fried rice, it could use a little more seasoning or sauce to give it that extra punch. Now for the two different experiences: Our first visit? Amazing. All our food came out in like 10 minutes, service was on point, and everything felt smooth and efficient. Second visit was a little more... relaxed. We had to get up to let our server know we were ready to order because he was on his phone. Came by every 5 mins while we were still eating (which I personally find kind of distracting), but relaxed when we were done ended up going to the front to pay since the check never came. Not awful, just not as polished as the first time. That said , the place is spacious , clean, modern, and such a great addition to the area. The food quality alone will keep us coming back. We heard from @Rachel this place had just opened and decided to pop by for a to go order on our way home. There is plenty of parking. My first impressions were it is spotlessly clean, stylish and spacious. We ordered many items including multiple kinds of soup dumplings, three different pan fried dumplings, siu mai, fried rice and udon noodles. Everything was fantastic even an hour later when we got home! Yoyo provided a homemade soy milk while I waited and it was delicious. She also offered to give us a cucumber salad with our large order and helped me carry everything to the car. I'm glad Shanghai Dumpling House opened up. Now I don't have to go all the way over to Brandon. They did a nice job of remodeling the inside. Inside, they have a nice modern look and feel. Service was decent, with friendly waiters. The food itself was solid. While not quite at the level of Din Tai Fung, it is definitely solid for Tampa. The Soup Dumplings had a decent amount of broth, the pan fried dumplings had a nice crispy exterior, and the menu options were sufficient. I do think the soup dumpling skins can be a bit thinner and the dining tables a little bit bigger. But for Tampa, this is a very solid option :) read more

Like all the dumplings didn't have much taste to them. The spring rolls were fairly good. Wontons were bland too. I don't know, I was super pumped to eat here and it just doesn't have much taste at all. I'm not really impressed. It looks good, sounds good, but doesn't really taste good. Oh, he forgot about my Mochi... which was also not good at all, do not order the Mochi, its not that soft doughy texture you think it will be... The waiter informed me that the paper menus were outdated when I asked where the string beans were so we didn't get any even though I saw another table with them. Maybe I'm a bit harsh having just visited din tai fung, the bar was set pretty high. I found the soup dumplings to be very thick, although there was a lot of filling in them it was ultimately flavorless. The vinegar and chili oil were the only things keeping it enjoyable for me. The spicy chili wontons were good and packed a punch. The cucumber salad was a bit sad, they were missing that snap and were almost mushy. The beef udon was probably the best thing on the table. I'm not sure if it was because I went during lunch break, but midway through my meal my server and the rest of the staff gathered in a corner leaving me to wave for about five minutes before being noticed and helped, which took away from the experience. Service aside, the food is solid. My favorite dish, was the Pork Xiao Long Bao (no photo). It was done well, with great flavor, rich broth and good portions. The rice was fine, and the Pork + Shrimp Xui Mai had a nice balance of flavor with a generous amount of shrimp. The spicy wontons in chili sauce were a bit of a letdown, but I'd still recommend them since the flavor improved when paired with the chili crisp on the table. I also enjoyed the thematic atmosphere Shanghai Dumplings has, which sets the mood right away. Is this Din Tai Fung? No. But is it a good enough stand-in until one finally opens in Florida?
