I came back recently and the beef in the beef noodle soup was amazing. The giant chunks of beef were super tender and delicious. The broth was a bit bland, it needs some salt and/or sriracha. I don't know if they have sriracha there, but I brought some leftovers home and that was the key. The noodles have a nice consistency, almost as if they were hand made? The beef sandwiches are pretty good. They are very flavorful, you get 2 per order, each one is then halved. The meat is good, but seems a bit light and thinly sliced. The peking duck sauce is good. The service isn't too bad, they fill up tea pretty quickly, but on a saturday it's busy. You need to work to get their attention. read more

So I've heard about this place before and since I was craving some Asian food I decided to check it out. It's super busy but we didn't end up waiting that long. Since I'm obsessed with peanut butter, I ordered a "Dan Dan mian" which is basically noodles with chili and sesame paste/peanut butter as well as some sort of veggie. My friends ordered rice with sesame chicken and we got an eggplant dish to share too (I told them to make out without meat since I'm vegan). My noodle portion wasn't too big at all but the rice dishes were HUGE as they also came with potatoes and veggies. The noodles were pretty good but not spicy enough at all and the noodles were a little too thick for traditional Dan Dan noodles. The eggplant had way too much oil, which is normal for Szechuan food, so even though I didn't have too much of it I ended up feeling nauseous. I don't know if I would order the same noodles again but I'm still up for coming back and ordering something else on the menu (as long as it's vegan) to give this place another shot. read more

One of my favorite spots to eat delicious authentic Asian food in New Jersey. Everything I have tried there has been delicious and I have been there many times. Service is quick and they know we order our dumplings first :~) if you want appetizers you have to order them first or they will come out with the rest of your food. It's cheap and relatively quick. Some of my favorite things on the menu include the fresh sautéed noodles, and the soup buns. They aren't the best most amazing soul buns but they are delicious. I also love the string beans! Amazing. I believe they have pork in them however which is not indicated so just be aware of that. The Chinese spinach with garlic is delicious and the Mongolian lamb is outrageous, as well as the lobster. You get a truck load of lobster for such a low price! My family has the VIP card which gives you discounts on certain special items on the wall, as well as discounts off your bill. I'm beginning to notice at least 3 noodle shops in the towns of Piscataway and Edison. This one is located in Edison. I ordered a fish noodle soup and wine chicken. The fish soup noodle was excellent. The filet fish tasted excellent as well as the noodles. The chicken was a cold cut item, if you give it time to get to room temperature or mix it with soup you can get the essence of the wine infused with the chicken. The soup dumplings are not not bad, but not the best I've tasted. It was a pleasant meal, and I'm sure to visit again. read more

The portions size was good as were the prices. There are slight language issues, nothing to worry about. This is the go to Noodle House in the Edison area. I've been there many times Authentic delicious dishes you can't get just anywhere. Soups are to die for. Complex broths that really hard to find. Asd the fact you choose your noodle preference and it's a home run. I've tried many of them and yet to experience a bad one. If you like a little spicy, pork and mustard greens is amazing. I ordered take out on a Saturday morning. Upon arrival, I was greeted by two waitresses and informed them that I am picking up an order. The restaurant was not very busy at this time. I stood patiently for one of them to assist but waited 5 minutes without any help. Another person came and was also waiting for assistance to pick up an order. A few minutes later, an employee walks into the restaurant. This was the same person who took my order on the phone. After getting settled, she had to help cashier the sit in patrons checks first. Being close to 10 minutes, she then insisted on helping the other person waiting for take out first, though I arrived 5 minutes earlier. Thoroughly annoyed she has trouble finding my order in their system, though it was sitting on the counter within 2 feet of the cashier. This was a bad take out experience. Overall, the food is OK and the price is competitive with the other restaurants nearby. I probably would come here again because it's close and affordable food. However, the service is lacking and I know that if you order take out, you must ask for the vinegar sauce or else they don't supply it with you even if you order their soup dumplings, something that goes hand in hand with the vinegar sauce. This is a pretty good Chinese restaurant, especially in Jersey. There's a lot of authentic foods there even if they don't taste amazing, they are still very good especially for the price you're paying for it. We had three people and came to ~$30, carrying our stuffed tummies out. Started with two cold appetizers, spicy beef tendons and spicy cucumber. Although they weren't very spicy, they tasted pretty good. In addition, we had the soup dumplings. Compared to Chinatown, these are decent (make sure you have t with cho). Next we got two soup noodles. The pig intestine was pretty good, not too spicy. The spicy fish was fairly hot but not as good as real authentic versions of it. Was back there last night for the first time in at least a year. Nice makeover as they expanded the restaurant. Also, the servers speak a lot of English which is great for us. My curry noodle beef dish was delicious. My wife's wonton soup with pork and rice noodles was pretty bland. The soupy dumplings barely had any soup if any at all. That part was disappointing. They have a great menu and prices are very cheap. This is similar to the restaurant in Matawan but I do prefer the Matawan restaurant more. The menu at this Edison location is much more expansive and not a self-service with drinks but the overall feel of the restaurant is not quite up to par as Matawan. The food is quite nice and at a nice price. I've had the shanghai soup dumplings and the pan-fried dumplings are well made and their noodle soups are quite nice. They have improved since first arriving but it's tough competition back in Edison with so many Asian eateries. It's worth a try but my money is still on Coco down Rt 27 in Edison! read more

This place was good. Upon entering this place, I straight up felt I was in Asia. They had all the small treats that I love in Taiwan spots such as spicy shredded beef stomach, cold cucumber in garlic sauce, jelly fish, and kelp. Even Apple Soda!!! These were all pretty good, and the portions was great for the price. The buns and noodles were both delicious. Definitely try the Beef Noodle Soup, Pork fried buns, and Vegetable buns. Regular dumplings were meh. My only real gripe was that everything was oily. That stinks. Service was kinda of on the bleh side too.. Considering that there were 3 servers and only 7-8 tables, i thought my water would get filled up pretty fast. I think the only place you can get this type of quality and price is Chinatown in NYC... DAMN YOU TWITTER. I saw my friend's tweet about getting soup dumplings at a nearby restaurant and just had to try them out myself. After I asked her where she had gone, I immediately turned to Yelp! to see what my internet friends thought (yes, although we've never met, clearly I trust your opinions like I do any friend of mine). I was worried at first with what Nancy L had to say, but after readjusting my expectations, I was able to enjoy my meal thoroughly. After her warnings, all I wanted was a good soup dumpling, and dag nab it, that's what I got. They aren't quite as good as what you would get in chinatown, but I don't know of any other restaurants in the area that sell soup dumplings. I had an order of the pork and could have easily just eaten orders and orders of that as my main meal. Echoing what Nancy said, your expectations will make or break your experience. I had lowered my expectations of Shanghai Noodle House, and was pretty much only looking for a good soup dumpling experience. Thankfully, I was able to get that AND more. I've eaten here on several occasions and every time I've left feeling full and satisfied. It's a very family-friendly restaurant and all the dishes you order are all very easy to share. For some of my favorite dishes: The pork soup dumplings here are very yummy, as are the pork potstickers. I went to Shanghai dumpling house on a Friday night and as expected, it was packed. It's a small restaurant so I wasn't surprised. So I made my way over to Shanghai noodle house and it was really nice, busy wise. When me and my boyfriend walked in we were greeted by a friendly woman who asked where we wanted to sit (which is always nice to me). When we sat down, we were given tea and then we looked at the menu. Our waiter was really kind when I had questions concerning the food and service was fast. This restaurant is good for where it is located. I would have given it four stars but took off one star for service. The servers are pretty nice, hit or miss who you have to flag down to get noticed, but the lack of attention was enough to affect my dining experience. As for food, it was pretty good. We ordered the plain congee and two orders of pork soup dumplings. The pieces are CHEAP, (maybe I should add back that star? LOL) and the food was tasty. The soup dumplings rivaled those from my favorite Chintatown places, and the portions were large. This is my first time coming to this restaurant. The lay out of this place is pretty open, and definitely won't have to worry about feeing cluster-phobic in there. First off the menu was very user friendly. It had plenty of pictures and English translation, perfect for someone who obviously can't read or speak Chinese. The food here is very reasonably priced. For our first course We ordered an 8 piece pork soup dumpling. We then ordered beef chow fun, sautéed string beans, wonton soup and scallion pancake. I definitely made the mistake of letting my eyes doing the ordering here. I pretty took all the food as left overs. Our whole meal only cost $34 and came out very quick. The only con that I will say is that they are a bit short staffed with only 3 servers and tend to forget about you once all your ordered food has been served. Not much Chinese breakfast options in the area. Resturant was okay. Soy milk was fresh and not too sweet. Only hot soy milk served in morning. Cold soy milk served only after 1PM. Congee was plain and not salty, would have preferred it to be more flavorful. It seems like they have a base of white congee made and add the beef/fish/seafood when ordered. Food is still pretty good. Impressed that like the other Yelpers had stated, food comes out very quickly. Why the two stars still? Service remains cold, unfriendly and almost arrogant. And mind you, it's not a language thing. Their English skills are superb. It's their customer service skills which are lacking. They continue to act like they don't care if you come back. And it shows in the way they take care of the place. I grew up in New York. I know holes-in-the-walls. But there's a difference between being unable to make the place cleaner or being unwilling. This place has not been sanitary within two weeks of first opening. Eat here if you'd like. But don't look too closely in the dining room, the prep stations, nor the bathrooms. There are buggies, big and small, EVERYWHERE. Dead AND alive. If you own this place, for God's sakes close for a day and have every employee scrub this place down. The decor is simple and structured to seat a large group of patrons even in a strip mall. Bonus point--IT'S A BYOB! So my wife and I ordered the steamed pork soup buns, fried pork chop, pork radish soup(with flat noodles) & spicy beef soup (with homemade noodles). Fried pork chop ($4.95) was just right with tenderness and came with a very good soy vinegar side. Steamed pork soup buns (8 pieces)- this alone can be made a meal for a whopping $6.95! My spicy beef soup($7) was warm liquid satisfaction. The beef falls apart when you bite in to it and the greens have a nice crispness & bright green color. The broth seemed to be nothing too fancy but I did add some hot oil to it which adjusted it to my flavor level. The homemade noodle is just rich and almost made me forget about my appetizers. I will definitely be frequenting shanghai noodle house for these! Pork radish soup ($6) tasted quite different from my dish which is how it should be. I'm not a fan of restaurants where everything kind of tastes similarly. Radish was fresh, pork bits tender and flat noodle was a nice contrast to homemade noodles. In delectable conclusion, we had an awesome 4 dish meal for $27.45!! Shanghai noodle house is most certainly 5 stars when you factor in price, quality, portion and a bevy of varieties whether it's appetizers, cold dishes, hot dishes, fried foods, rice boxes, bubble teas, BYOB restaurant, etc. This place just got added to my top 5 local restaurants and I WILL be ordering take out frequently. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner and were extremely disappointed. We're frequents at Shanghai Dumpling, and we wanted to try another soup dumpling place. We ordered the drunken chicken, pork soup dumpling, and scallion pancake. The chicken had to be sent back, because although the flavor was okay it was a brownish-grey color, and the meat was extremely dry. It was completely inedible. The soup dumplings were alright, nothing special. But the scallion pancake was pretty good. We didn't even finish our food and got up to go to Shanghai Dumpling. My husband and I really enjoyed eating the pork soup dumplings, we got 3 orders of them and just couldn't stop eating. I liked how the outside of the dumpling was just thick enough so that when you picked it up with chopsticks you wouldn't break it. I come here with my family all the time and in typical Chinese fashion we almost always order a million dishes to share, finish only half of it, and doggy bag the rest. What's great is that everything is cheap enough that we can do this, and so I've gotten to sample a fair amount of the menu and I've consistently been a fan for the past few years. My favorite appetizers to get here include the gua bao (pork belly buns - I think they call them Taiwanese burgers here?), the beef sandwiches, and scallion pancakes (although the most recent time I came the scallion pancakes tasted really off/bland?? i'm hoping that was an anomaly though). Seriously though the gua bao here is so bomb I almost always order extra to take home with me! The noodle dishes here are also pretty good - I personally enjoy the zha jiang mian, seafood nian gao, and the cold peanut noodles. I also sometimes like the stir fried noodles with beef & sacha sauce but it can get a little too greasy. Another dish that I consistently order and enjoy is the fish with black bean sauce which comes with rice, eggplant, cabbage, and a tea egg. It's like mapo tofu with fish instead of tofu! And the amount of food you get with it is definitely worth the price. One last tip: If you're ordering take out, bring cash - they offer a (10%?) discount for takeout orders that are paid with cash. read more

DO NOT ORDER THE BEEF CURRY NOODLE. I told them I had an allergy to mushrooms and they still brought my dish out with mushrooms, buried under the noodles. If I had actually been allergic it could have been a serious issue. I just don't like mushrooms. I tried the noodles and beef and they were the most bland thing I've ever had. It tasted like boiled or steamed beef: flavorless. They took the order back for me and gave me general Tso's chicken and THEY BROUGHT IT OUT WITH MUSHROOMS TOO! I love love LOVE this place. SNH has become my family's new go to Chinese restaurant and it's worth the 35 minute drive down to Edison for some authentic Chinese food. Despite having the word Shanghai in its name, SNH doesn't really focus on Shanghainese cuisine or any one type of Chinese cuisine in general. This is normally a recipe for disaster but SNH manages to pull off a variety of mouth watering dishes from different regions of China. What I've tried there: -Soup Dumplings: Great! The skin is at the right thickness without being too floury or too thin that it'll break as soon as you try to pick it up. Def get these if you're here. -Spicy Beef Noodle Soup: The noodles are all made in house and are so nice and chewy. I love my noodles al dente and they're definitely that here. Hand made noodles FTW! -Beef Sandwiches: One of their new items. These are sooo yummy! Each order comes with two and they're both decently sized so if you're just eating by yourself one order's def enough to fill you up. -Scallion Pancakes: Not the thin, greasy pancakes you get at some other places.
