Horrible experience for my friend. I rescued her when her car broke down in the middle of the road. AAA took too long so the police called for towing. Shanks drove off with my friend's car while she was trying to get payment figured out, impounded it, and then tried to come up with every fee imaginable for her to get her car back. $50 to try to jump it, $90 to tow it across the street to Toyota, $125 less mileage fee... they have a horrible reputation for a reason. Meanwhile and her 2 yr old child are stranded trying to figure out how to pay for all this on a 90° day. Shanks ended up keeping it half the day because they wouldn't release it then charging extra because of that... in total around $260 for theft. This bastard in cohorts with James Wright and his employee Amanda sold her a mini van they swore worked. I had to buy a battery to get her sisters and was rushed to sign the papers because it was snow and a Saturday. When I got the ice off the truck the windshield was broken in several places. As I backed out I thought I was spinning but the truck had issues. I took it for inspection and it was a turn signal and the windshield that failed. James drive it for me. The dealership said it had a bunch of codes. James tried to the dealership messed it up. NO WAY! I drove to Advance Auto and it was a transmission oil control sensor. They gained to make good on their promise to replace the car or things my money. A week later while driving to the shop to get the repair the car died. Chris Shanks picked it up. A week later they still gave me no money! another car choice so I drive the truck until they found me one. A week later they stopped answering my calls and blocked me. Then they proceeded to buy the car for another$500. Then when I failed to accept that, they told me the car was being taken because I abandoned it. Trashiest people in the world! Trash! These Scum bag pieces of shit stole my car right in my neighborhood at 3:00 am said I didn't have a parking pass when I did. I called them out on there bullshit and they laughed in my face. Other residents in my neighborhood have also complained about their predatory towing practices and rude customer service. About a month later, I saw them in my neighborhood as I was pulling in. I told them that what they are doing is illegal and that they are common thieves. The driver laughed at me as I was about to park my car. He backs his tow truck into the hood of my car and lifts me in the air while I am in the car with the engine running. Mind you, this is my neighborhood, my car has good tags, good inspection, and a parking pass. I am yelling out my window for him to put my car down. I finally get out and bang on his door. I ask him what he thinks he's doing. He then lies and says I am double-parked. I called the police as well as my insurance company. Finally, I give up, he takes my car, and I call and follow him to their tow yard in an Uber. I got there, went around back where a few of their employees were, and told them that their driver hit my car with his tow truck and stole my car while I was in it. They became aggressive. They surrounded me and I became pissed and said I want my car now at that point one of the Shanks employees punched me in my eye which I have on video. The cops showed up and told me that my car being towed was a civil issue, even though it was straight up theft, and if I wanted to press charges, I would have to speak to the magistrate's office. Are you kidding me? My car was stolen in my neighborhood with me in it, and I was assaulted by a Shanks tow truck driver, and not one thing was done about it. My car was towed this past Saturday by Shank's towing in Fredericksburg, VA and I'll admit, there was a sign warning me. My beef is with the rude customer service, lack of signage at the impound lot and confusing signage on the door (PLUS when you google this establishment, the address is totally different from the address that the rude employee gave me). I'm already upset that my car was towed, so having to locate this place was tricky (no sign and the number was on the mailbox, but not anywhere near the road and visible). I finally knocked on the window near the door that was locked and the shade went up and there was this "lovely" lady (insert sarcasm). So my car was towed out of my assigned space (paid for) space. Offered proof in the form of security camera footage that the car was in my assigned space and they had made a mistake... they refused to look at the security footage at all. Told me it could be faked. When i asked why their person was taking a picture of my driver license i was told for their copy. I asked if they delete it from the employee PERSONAL cell phone and they became offended and said it is not my business. I had to pay $135 to get my car in cash. Because if i wanted to pay in debit or credit card i needed my registration (located in my car) that they wouldn't let me get out. However, if I pay cash they do not need my registration at all. That is kind of funny to me. The lady was very rude and offended that I asked any questions. So, i will never use these guys if my car breaks down. I would go with a better tow company. Called to get my car and told her we were on the way, got there to confirm it was the right place for her to say "Oh I forgot to tell you, you need an appointment because I'm not there".
