Let me start by saying that I didn't expect much. Afterall, this restaurant is attached to a…read moregrocery store and isn't situated within one of Manila's fancy malls. Soooo...yeah. That said, my parents who visit the Philippines more often than I do swear by this place. When I said I wanted Chinese food for lunch, they suggested Luk Foo, and my uncle agreed that Luk Foo was a great option. I wasn't sold but considering that traffic in Manila SUCKS and my uncle lives in the subdivision right next door, it really wasn't up to me. Well, I WAS WRONG to assume it was going to be a subpar meal. Luk Foo has some of the best Chinese food I have ever had. Clean dining room, attentive wait staff and great food - can't really ask for more than that, especially from a Chinese restaurant that is attached to a grocery store. Really. We ordered chicken pansit. Noodles were cooked PERFECTLY. I hate mushy noodles which happens more often than not. The chef at LuK FOo has his noodle game on point. We ordered sweet and sour lapu lapu, spicy salt and pepper spare ribs, ampalaya and beef, some shrimp dish, taro puff (the best I've ever had) and something else I can't remember. I love dim sum and order taro puff every time I have dim sum...and Luk Foo has the BEST taro puff. Perfect crispy outside with generous filling of taro and beef. Even my mom who is typically not a fan of taro puff, loved it. Win. We ordered 7 dishes for less than P3,000. So worth it. In fact, it was a bargain by our American standards. Will be back for sure.

I wouldn't consider myself that old, but, in my young life, I have tasted quite an array of Chinese food. Too many to count. At any rate, I wouldn't expect to be surprised by sitting at dinner before a host of yet untasted Chinese cooking. A meal at Luk Foo proved my expectations wrong. In other Chinese restaurants, dishes may vary in taste but one can say that there is a certain uniformity in the menu. Luk Foo breaks this pattern of uniformity. They have a way of cooking meat, fish, shrimps and vegetables in ways that are original. For instance, they succeed in giving their Seafood Tofu Soup a taste that is exquisite: light and delicious. The same goes for their Steamed Garlic Fish Fillet with Eggplant and Lohan with Beancurd Vegetables. So before you say seen it all, tasted it all, visit Luk Foo.

Their snowbuns were the highlight of the meal, paired easily with the coffee afterwards. Not sure what was in the soup or congee, but it was super addicting!

Located in the center of U.P. Town, the modern styled restaurants boasts mouthwatering appetizers and entrees to be followed up by perfectly sweet beverages that would make even Gordon Ramsay cower...maybe. Out of all the amazing dishes, the highlight has got to be the Crispy Pork Bun. A nice twist to the snack that I consider Siopao, the crunch to the bun really made all the difference for me. Highly recommend. My favorite entree has got to be the chicken filler curry. I've had my fair share of curries in my lifetime, and this is in the top...maybe four? Something I'd order again. Onto the drinks- for dessert I had the Okinawa Brown Sugar Milk Tea. Dude...what the f-word did they put in this Godsent drink? It was unbelievably good for someone with a sweet tooth like mine. Absolutely emptied the cup in like 5 minutes. If you have you to get any kind of dessert, get this one. Service was amazing! It's honestly what put it over the top for me and got me to write a review. Chinese food has always been amazing, but this one is definitely for the books.

When one thinks of a drinking session, one knows you need two things: good booze and pulutan. While…read moreyou could probably get a decent drink anywhere else in the Zone, this place has your pulutan covered. Unlike its neighbors, Eats Good has a menu mostly consisting of things that get deep fried and drowned in vinegar rather than full meals. Like I said. Pulutan. Perfect with a cold beer or one of the cocktails from that bar you pass on the way up to their loft. And for under 50php? Why not? So there I was, in the market for something new to nibble on while I waited for my main course. Here was a place I never noticed before. Eventually, I decided on the pig ears. Eh.... I don't know. First off, it took them a while to get my order to me. There weren't too many people and I don't suppose it takes that long to fry up a few pig ears. But at least my order got to me fairly hot and delivered straight to my table. And maybe it was just because I didn't know what to expect but are pig ears that chewy? Not rubbery chewy though, thank goodness. It just seemed to lack that crunch that one usually expects from a pig part. Underwhelming. The tiny menu selection and the all in all "eh-ness" of what I got doesn't really do much to make Eats Good stand out from the rest of its neighbors. Maybe they'll have something better once they step out of their dry run phase.

It can get hard to decide on what to eat out of the many choices but my best recommendation would be this kiosk called Eats Good Hongkong Street Food, located above BBQ Zone. They serve the best Chow Mian or Wok Fry Noodles topped with homemade fish balls or chicken balls. One order is not even enough. It's that good! It costs only Php 75 so you'll really be tempted for a second round. The homemade fish ball topping is not just any topping 'cos it's just as good as the noodles. It's different from the typical fish balls that I get from street vendors, maybe it's because their fish ball is freshly made from a dory fish. They also serve other foods like Pig Isaw, Pig Ears, Lobster Balls, Crab Fingers and Seafood Tofu. I haven't tried it but I think it's worth a try. It won't cost more than Php 50 so why not, right?

From the moment you crack open the menu, you know what you're getting: no gimmicks, just real-deal Filipino comfort food, with a nod to the streets via a proud offering of isaw. We went for the classics--nilaga, lechon kawali, grilled tuna belly, Java rice, garlic rice, and pork BBQ. Heavy hitters, all of them. I don't usually go for huge portions, but here? Resistance was pointless. Every bite hit like a memory you didn't know you had. The ambiance walks a fine line: traditional roots with just enough of a modern pulse to remind you where you are. Nothing sterile, nothing fake. Just good food and good people. The staff? Polite, attentive--like they actually give a damn. This is the kind of place I'd come back to without hesitation. No pretense. Just food that tells you a story. Lola Ote--my new favorite go-to in the Philippines.

We ended up pivoting to the lunch menu, and it turned out to be a great decision. The standout dish was the Pork Barbecue. It had the perfect balance of sweetness and savory flavor, and the meat was cooked just right. The Inihaw na Tenga ng Baboy (Grilled Pig Ears) was equally delicious, featuring the same excellent seasoning and smoky flavor in a different cut of pork. The Inihaw na Liempo (Grilled Pork Belly) was another winner, tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. We also enjoyed the "Bakuran" Salad, a refreshing combination of local vegetables, salted egg, and alamang (shrimp paste) that complemented the grilled dishes nicely. A special shoutout to our server, Joy, who was incredibly friendly and attentive. She got us seated quickly, and our food arrived even faster. The restaurant itself is clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully decorated, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience. We'll definitely be back and would happily recommend this place to friends and family.
