Beautiful space. Carefully made coffees. They ONLY serve light roast coffees. No roast that even tips toward the warmer or nuttier tones. I asked and was lectured about my taste. I don't want my beans burned, and I understand that we are living through a coffee revolution and that I'm old or whatever but these bright, vegetably roasts do not make me happy and that doesn't mean I'm an ignoramus. it was a bit like shopping in a store that only sells teenager clothes and then being sneered at when you want something that isn't skin tight. I will be honest from the get-go. I have been enjoying a coffee share from Share...they do that too... This has to be some of the best coffee I have ever had. I do not like overly roasted or burnt flavored beans. I know this had been "in" once upon a time, but it never did it for me. Share coffee roasters roast the beans to perfection, CREAMY, with a bright, yet well rounded acidity...AND THEN....they get them to us...right away. No time for those perfect oils to get old tasting, no burnt after taste. I feel the caffeine work...and it feels like a jolt of smooth energy...no jitters, no queasy stomach. I do not know how they do this! I do not go to other places for on-the-go coffee any longer. When Share was formerly Raos...I didn't go there much. Now, I truly enjoy the Amherst location. It feels like coffee and atmosphere for those seeking something really quality. It feels like Raos grew up. I am also addicted to their gluten free baked goods. OMG, try the gf scones and quick breads. They are basically butter...sweet, flaky, satisfying. And to top it all off, I've noticed that the folks working there seem more on it. LOVED this little coffee shop while i was out at the Amherst half marathon this past weekend! I enjoyed one of their sandwiches (caprese, $7) and just a regular coffee. Both were amazing! I've been going to this cafe for years, when it was Rao's and the staff were friendly. SInce it's been Share, the new staff seem inexperienced (drag, but they'll learn) can be rude and unfriendly (just a drag) and the full cups have been getting a bit less full. There's no flowers on my latte any more, and I'm not happy. Almost a year later: the staff are all new again, these days they're friendly and the flower is back. Feels a bit less snooty than Amherst coffee, and there's a bit more space. It's less grungy than before and now it has a real toaster for bagels. Revised rating up. read more

Share just isn't nearly as good as Rao's was. It's not bad, but it's also not very good. The dark roast of the day wasn't that dark, the mocha I ordered wasn't as flavorful as Rao's. It's fine, but not worth going out of your way for like Rao's was. read more

I like coming here to work, as many of the usuals do. I used to be more of a regular when it used to be Raos (a name i still use), and then I didn't come for about two years until now. I judge places like this purely on their cappuccinos. I have to say that their cappuccino are extraordinarily delicious. They use a different type of roast that produces very flavorful almost sweet tasting cup of coffee. They don't go for typical dark roast it's a much lighter sweet roast nuanced and subtle and more delicious than other types of cappuccinos.the food looks great but I haven't tried it. The staff is always really friendly and helpful and the Wi-Fi is strong. So if you are in Amherst and Are looking for a great cuppa coffee and a snack this will be a good choice. They are maniacal about the quality of their product here it really shows, and some places kind of Dismiss decaffeinated as something less than coffee but here they grind the beans individually to order and each cup of cappuccino is a work of art. read more

Glad this isn't Rao's anymore. Has more space than the other cafes around town, and the drinks are so much better than the Rao's products. Pastry selection always looks nice and enticing but ends up mediocre. I think the iced tea is exceptional and the hot and iced coffee is solid. We decided to take a morning drive to Amherst just to get out of the house during this pandemic time. We opted to stop at Share Amherst for coffee and a scone (for my wife) and a muffin (for me). In a word, it was SUPERB! We ordered ahead via the website, and everything was ready when we got there! Both my wife's regular drip coffee and my cappacino were perfect--robust and flavorful. The stars of the show, however, were the raisin walnut scone and the raspberry oat muffin. The scone was chock full of raisins and nuts and had a wonderful flavor. It was very filling, but not too much so! The raisins added a touch of sweetness and richness that was delicous but not overpowering. The muffin was wonderful, filled with fresh raspberries and was the perfect texture--a great melange of sweetness and tartness. We both agreed that our pastries were the best we had ever had from any coffee shop. If you are near Amherst or planning to drive out that way for a Covid break, I would strongly suggest a stop at Share Amherst, right on the main road in Amherst Center--178 North Pleasant Street. I went into Share Coffee looking for an ice blended vanilla - something that was on Rao's menu for decades. The server behind the counter told me they no longer had them and had instead replaced it with a "cold draught vanilla latte" (a grossly sweet non-blended drink). I was surprised, since the ice blendeds were a summer classic at Rao's. I told the server I was disappointed, and she asked if I would mention my thoughts to the owner. When I spoke with the owner of Share, the attitude that he gave me was one of not caring in the least. He was immediately defensive and gave me an odd answer about quality of product. As a self-identified snob, I was willing to hear him out about quality, but given that he replaced the blended drinks on the menu with liquid diabetes, I don't think we're on the same page snob-wise. His biggest argument was that blenders are just "too loud" (hello, so are espresso grinders and steam wands, it's a cafe - it's loud) and "break too often" (buy better blenders and clean/maintain them better). I'm under no illusion that a business owner is going to change their menu over one customer's comments. But good business is always to politely thank a customer for caring about your product, whether you take their suggestions or not. What started as a small and dumb complaint turned into an eye-opening experience. I've been a Rao's customer for over 20 years and since that doesn't seem to mean anything to the new owner, I won't continue to be his customer. If you're looking a local spot that still has the ice blended vanillas/mochas on their menu -- hit up Esselon cafe off route nine in Hadley. They'll make you a quality drink without a defensive attitude. Side note: "Share" is the stupidest business name I've ever heard. Was a regular for the duration I was at Amherst. Boss coffee, quality daily selections, almost all non-espressos are gladly sampled in generous portions. Summer lavender lattes were prime- I've had them at many other nearby local cafes but Share came out on top by far with the lavender. The cold one was also a hit for those 90 degree days for sure. Studied here a ton; their new seating and stools are even better, and makes charging more accessible. Also, their house-roasted ham and turkey sandwiches all hit the spot. Iced cappuccino was my reliable favorite for sure though. I would be there right now if I didn't relocate. 10/10 and almost always the best baristas and service I could ask for. read more

I love this place! They have excellent coffee and good food selections, including vegan and gluten free. They even have hot breakfast sandwiches and lunch selections in addition to all the pastries. There's tons of space and I can always find a place to study by an outlet. The wifi is fast even when there are a lot of people using it. What more can you ask for? read more

I always enjoy the vibe in here when I do work. The coffee is okay and it's a nice joint that is hidden in the back of Amherst center so there's a better chance you'll get a seat and hot cappuccino to do work in than at the Starbucks. The iced coffee here by the way is great! read more

Share is the new Rao's (or was Rao's the old Share?). On the good side, the coffee is much better now than it was under Rao's. And they still have the most abundant outdoor seating of any coffee shop in Amherst. But a lot has gotten worse under Share. The staff, who were already not great before, seem somehow even more unfriendly and forgetful now. There are also many fewer drink options now. If you go and want something cold without caffeine your options seem to be almost nonexistent (unless you enjoy maple flavored Italian soda which obviously you don't because nobody does). The bakery options could also use a bit more diversification. Music is still generally good. And the same colorful cast of Rao's characters are still hanging around, so while you'll either be caffeinated or thirsty, you'll at least also be entertained. read more

I have to say, I wanted to give Share a chance despite my long love for Rao's, however, I was disappointed. I think what threw me off the most was the horrible music - I had friends who went on separate occasions and all complained about the music as well. It was plain noise! Additionally, I did not have the chance to purchase coffee, but a friend of mine who bought a cup spat it out claiming it tasted like soap... I would love to give Share a second chance if I hear some changes are made because the location and the potential are great...but that's really all that's going for them currently... read more

This place is amazing. The coffee is roasted locally and is INCREDIBLE. That's not hyperbole, this sh*t is caffeinated velvet. I went to college here so I remember the old scene at Rao's, and I love how this new place kept the tradition alive but breathes new life into it. They've got all the classic baked goods plus some other new yummies, there are new gorgeous wood tables and the colors and art work are awesome. They pay attention to details here and it really shows. The owners are local and they're so committed to this area and local businesses, and I love knowing that when I get my coffee there I'm supporting such an awesome local business that gives back every way they can. read more

I've enjoyed going to Rao's coffee over the last few years and it has become one of my favorite hangouts in Amherst. On my most recent visit, I learned they are serving SHARE coffee and let me tell you, it is quite an upgrade from Rao's coffee! After reading through a few of these reviews, the only thing I can come up with to explain any of the negative feedback is that people hate change. The Share Coffee is amazing and you have to try it to understand the difference. The café atmosphere hasn't changed much and is still an awesome place to hang but the coffee has improved tenfold! This used to be Rao's coffee up until mid-January but the place is still very good. The coffee is A+ and the atmosphere is pretty relaxing. They have free-wifi which makes this a great study spot for many college kids. Would recommend if you're looking to study or for a coffee date. read more

It's a great space to hang out, plenty of outdoor seating and the staff is super on the ball and friendly. Also, their energy balls (peanut butter, oats, coconut, chocolate chips and perfection) have saved me a number of times from going over the edge when I was starving and cranky. SO delicious.
