Sharkey's is overall a great kid catered business. We scheduled our appointment last minute and online (on Valentine's Day) with Alyssa and the experience was great. Alyssa was patient and accommodating to our son and we relied on her expertise to guide us on what cut was best for my son (he has super straight hair that does not cooperate). He was able to pick his chair from the kid-friendly seats and was asked what show he wanted to watch. This instantly made my son more comfortable in the seat. While getting the cut, there was another child getting their haircut that was not taking it so well (crying and scared of the process) and the stylist was also very kind and patient in trying to calm the child down and only proceeding when they were ready. Alyssa remained focused on my son and made sure we liked the outcome. We definitely will be booking again with Alyssa. read more

Do not come here they seem to only know how to do one hairstyle. I came twice both times showed the same photo/video reference twice and both times the cut did not match the photo for reference. Both times we were serviced by Avery the first time it wasn't what I asked for but it looked nice I didn't complain I came back gave them another shot. But this time Avery just grabbed chunks of his hair and went to town on my son's head. I will add that this all started happening after someone came in looking for her she seemed mad and rushed. It's been two nights in a row where I get a text message at almost 10:30 PM asking for a Yelp review. If your business closes at 5/6pm on weekends there is no reason why you should be texting me this late at night. Really big inconvenience for those of us who wake up early. We were on vacation when I came across this shop on google and I wanted my 2 year old daughter who is autistic to have the best experience for her first haircut. This place is far from basic it was the coolest haircut spot I've ever been to. The gal that cut my daughter's hair was so patient, she listened to my concerns, executed and delivered in doing a phenomenal job with my baby's first haircut. It was also so cool that they provided a certificate, before and after photo as well as a piece of hair for memories. I have been coming here for years with my older kids, but today was very disappointing with my autistic 3 year old. I arrived for my appointment and was waiting for our stylist Alyssa to come get us. We waited for a long time and there was nobody else there. We also had an appointment. The stylist was in the back area sitting there talking with other stylists even after being told we had arrived. Once the stylist spoke with us I informed her that my son is autistic and non-verbal and struggles with haircuts but has been here several times and I can help in any way I can holding him or whatever else is needed. The haircut started and eventually she was able to get cutting without too much movement from my son. Toward the end she went to do the edges and I told her we don't need that done because he hates it. She kept going anyway. Even after my son started crying, she kept going because she wanted it even. I told her before it got uneven, not to do it. Then she goes and tries to do more in a different area and again I had to tell her to stop and finally told her we were done and we left. When we got home I looked at my son's neck and it has red lines all over from where she tried to keep edging the back. Overall worst experience here. I will say that Alma is amazing and gave all 3 of my sons their first haircuts starting 13 years ago at a different kids salon that is now closed and we come here because of her. I will continue to come back, but only book with Alma. read more

My son is autistic so to have someone like Nancy doing his haircut with patience is pretty important to me. Here's my hugest complaint..... just for a haircut- even if you don't get the wash it (which is the choice/option you pick of service under "haircut with wash" There's a reason why they do not place a price when booking, it's $28 a haircut per child! Like are you kidding me!? In a time where it's rough enough as it is with the recession goin on during this time period is absolutely unnecessary, unrealistic and unreasonable! THATS NOT INCLUDING THE TIP FOR THE HAIR DRESSERS WORK! This is our number one spot for our son's haircut when in town visiting family and every time we visit they do such a wonderful job! Our son is on the autism spectrum and sensory can be a cause for some of the challenges we face when it comes time for a haircut. He struggles to wear the cape and the hair that falls on him sends him into a fit. However, this last haircut we had on Christmas Eve was by far our best experience! I apologize for not remembering her name, but the kind woman we had did a fantastic job and made us all feel welcomed and comfortable. Our son immediately sat in the McQueen seat and watched Boss Baby as she gently took it one step at a time. She got him to wear a cape! Actually two to ensure no hair would fall on him. I had an amazing experience here. My almost 3 year old doesn't handle anything to do with his hair very well. So of course as a first time mom i was extremely nervous. I called a day in advance and booked an appointment i asked if they work with all hair types and how they accommodate children that are on the spectrum. The lady answered all my questions and booked my appointment. We came in today and it wasn't too busy so my son got to pick the car he'd like to sit in. Julia turned on a show on Netflix and started cutting his hair with scissors. She asked me how short or long I'd like his hair and she kept cutting to my liking. I picked a simple cut because i wanted to see how my son would handle the process. He was actually so calm he even let her use the clippers to lightly edge up his hair! My son has been coming for years. Everytime we arrive on time, his stylist Nancy is NEVER on time. Either still cutting hair or on lunch and we wait. First time we're 8 minutes late they deny our visit and say he needs to be on a walk in list. Okay. We ask for an estimate which is pretty standard at any salon type of establishment...the lady at the front says she "can't" give us an estimated wait time for the wait list. Mind you we're the only family in the lobby. That aside, my sons stylist was sitting in the back...with no other customers...and couldn't cut his hair. That will be the last time we use Sharkey's. Even at drs offices they have a 15 min window. The receptionist couldn't make any exceptions and was the rudest person I've ever spoken to on the phone. Nobody else is in the lobby and my son's haircut only takes 15-20 mins still within the time I booked. I understand that's their policy ( 5 mins late) but come on use common sense, only 8 minutes late and they should understand it takes time to get kids to places. I tried to get my child's haircut today at this location 4 people "working" and 1 possible "manager" I called an hour before to ensure they accept walk-ins, associate who answered acknowledged that they do. We arrived and I was immediately told that they are booked and they couldn't give me a wait time. I looked around and only one baby was getting a hair cut. I said no problem I understand and then was informed that a girls haircut would take about 20 mins. Again, no problem. My children and I waited and observed 4 people walkin with appointments (all babies) which each one took about 10-13 mins. Not one stylist ever came over to advise me on how much longer the wait would be. I continued to observe the stylist create "busy work" as to give the impression that they were cleaning up, again its mid day and my family is still the only family waiting all while watching others come and go.... All this to say we gave the employees what they wanted and we left. It's clear they don't get paid by client. We were able to get in across the street at Sweet and Sassy. Thank goodness for this place. My 15 month old son is such a rascal. He will never sit still for more than a few minutes. It was such a delightful surprise to see him stay calm enough for a successful haircut at Sharkey's. We just moved here from a small town on an island that didn't have those cute cars for tots to sit in, didn't have Netflix built into every station like they did. This place was clean, attentive, quick and friendly. His hairdresser (I didn't catch her name) was completely focused on him. Not very attentive to the parents but honestly I don't care about that. My son was cared for, distracted & happy. Above all, his new haircut looks awesome. Which makes my life so much easier, what more could a mother ask for? He hates having his hair touched and I was already giving Olga a long apology prior bc last haircut with him was horrendous. Like trying to catch and tame an alligator. My son hates haircuts and it's the most stressful thing ever. Lilia soothes him the entire time and did an amazing job on his hair too. There aren't many stylists that can do a perfect haircut and comfort a screaming, jumping, kicking kid at the same time. I'm so thankful for people like her because it's not easy having a screaming kid in public and she was calming both of us. Also, the lady up front was so amazing and nice. She even came over and offered to hold my 10 month old while I tried to calm the other one. Thank you both for dealing with my crying kids and not making me feel bad about it.
