There was nobody there for a haircut the complete empty inside and because me and my kid were eight minutes late. She refused to do his hair proceeded to tell me that it was basically my fault and I was like OK but there's nobody in here so like why couldn't you just cut his hair? It only take 10 minutes. She then proceeded to tell me that that's not enough time and I just can't do it and we're booked solid but yet we've been sitting here for 15 minutes after and there's not a single person who's gone in there the place is completely empty not a single customer very rude. No customer service just so disappointing especially for a kids cut place. You would expect better customer service very disappointed. I'll stick the cookie cutter. The second time I got her I thought maybe she would do okay because I asked for just a trim the second time and the last woman who did his hair gave him a nice haircut. Mediocre service for expensive cuts. Came in here for my 2 yr old's first haircut. Vibe was totally off, hairstylist didn't have her camera charged so we waited for minutes to get settled (time is always ticking with a toddler!), so I finally told her just skip the photo. They have mini TV monitors but the show she selected was only a few minutes long, so my calm toddler just stared at a blank screen rest of cut. Styling is average, at this price, would go elsewhere. No lollipop, no balloon was offered at the end of the cut - just strictly business. Can't imagine risking a haircut here with a high energy toddler. read more

Also cut our service short by not providing service we had scheduled to go along with the first haircut. Chair was covered in hair still from previous customer. Wouldn't recommend to anyone for a haircut much less a child's first haircut. Ended up with someone's else's hair all over my child, my car, and the carseat. Overall an absolute disappointment, especially considering the over $50 price tag. Haircut was mediocre at best, despite my child sitting still and not being bothered by the scissors or clippers (i probably could have done the same job at home which defeats the purpose of having a "pro" do it). Booked a month in advance then they refused to do my 2yos haircut because we were 10 mins late. I was coming with two kids under 3 in tow and did my best, but kids can be unpredictable. My 2yo then cried all the way home because he was excited about the haircut that he couldn't get. If you're going to cater to families then you need to be more flexible. Also last time we were there the stylist was running 15 mins late (and we were happy to wait because we appreciate that things don't always go to plan with kids) - but clearly this policy of turning away customers who run late is also not applied consistently. We will be finding a new hairdresser that is more family friendly. read more

This was our 3rd time at a Sharkey's and we have never had a problem before. Today, my 5 year old had Lisa. She was great for the haircut and offered an extra side braid at the end, we said sure, why not! But immediately my almost-Kindergartner was wincing in pain that the braid was too tight. I said, "kiddo are you okay?" She looked like she was going to cry. The lady said "Beauty is pain" which was completely inappropriate to say to anyone let alone a 5-year old girl. I got closer to my daughter and said "does it hurt?" Lisa then said "don't come over here hyping her all up". I completely froze. I couldn't believe this person was telling me how to parent my child who was clearly uncomfortable. The braid was almost done, and it seemed to be getting slightly better but then my daughter made eyes with me that looked like she wanted this to be done. The lady mocked her, "now you're just pretending. I'm not even at the scalp anymore. Ok you can pretend it hurts, that's fine. Keep pretending." I am kicking myself for freezing up and not advocating immediately that this extra braid (the haircut service we paid for was over!) was not important enough to watch my kid suffer through the pain it was causing. I am so angry at myself for not stopping in right away and telling Lisa that in our family beauty is NOT pain and that we want our visit at Sharkey's to be over. For someone to work at a KID'S HAIRCUT salon, I think they should avoid any extra special 'dos that may be uncomfortable for the child or cause pain, and definitely avoid any shaming for experiencing pain. Sharkey's I suggest you hire people who have more experience with little kids. I will not be coming back with my children because of this experience alone. read more

I'll preface this review by saying two of my three kids are on the spectrum and are a bit rambunctious. Mostly because they're overwhelmed in public and because of that we don't get out much. Our one year old had a scheduled appointment for his first haircut today, and we decided we'd take all three kids to the zoo this morning. I had surgery on Friday so I was much slower than I planned on being which meant we didn't have time to run home between the zoo and the haircut. I was super nervous to bring all three kids in but the two employees there were SO NICE. My youngest had a great experience getting his haircut and the woman cutting his hair, Rachel, was so kind and patient with him. My older two tried their best to sit still but are still little kids and wandered around having to be reminded by me to not touch things frequently but the other woman in the salon offered them balloons, lollipops and spinning chairs to sit in to keep them busy. Their kindness and flexibility when faced with a gang of rowdy kids was amazing. Our babies haircut was adorable, and the certificate and lock of hair that came with it is something we'll treasure forever. We'll definitely be back for subsequent haircuts, especially because both woman working there seemed to totally enjoy making my two older kids laugh. I needed that today and was so grateful for them. Took my almost 5 year old daughter here for her first hair cut. My daughter has a challenging time with sensory things so I spent a long time calling around trying to find a place that was willing to work with her. She cannot have water in or around her face and ears and she can't be around super loud noises like hair dryers and vacuums. Originally when I called, the woman I spoke to offered to allow us to be the first to try a new program for low sensory haircuts but I had some stuff to take care of so I wasn't able to call back. Fast forward a few weeks later, I finally booked an appointment but it was through the website and not on the low sensory day so I walked in anxious that she was going to be too scared to have her hair cut. The two staff that helped me were super sweet with myself and my daughter (on saturday, october 14th at 530 pm if that helps). I initially planned to pay for just the haircut, the photo and a lock of hair, what my daughter received was, a haircut, a style, a lock of hair, a certificate, her nails painting and some kids rings (which one of the staff painted one due to not having the color she wanted) . They put on her favorite movie and her haircut was soooo easy. Getting to checkout, the staff with piercings and dyed hair mentioned that they had spoken to the manager who realized it was me at the appointment, and told the staff to give me a discount and offered to let me bring my daughter in on wednesdays for low sensory cuts where they would shut the salon down for kids who can't do sounds and lights. As a mother who struggles with sensory challenges with my daughter, this means so much to me and I think we have found our permanent spot for our kiddo. They also have xboxs for older kiddos if movies aren't their things. My daughter loves her haircut, nails, balloon and style and I love Sharkey's! Thanks again for an amazing day!! read more

Brought my 2-year old in for a cut, and while he was screaming his head off because the sound of the clippers scared him (it was his first time with clippers), the stylist did a fantastic job! I wish I had caught her name, because she was awesome. Patient, accommodating, and reassuring to my little one. The salon itself is really cute! Clean, and offers Netflix. Let me tell you about the mayhem that was our son's first haircut. We loaded up into the badass police car that lights up, all seemed to be going well. Then the "cape" came out... Tears, yelling and snot rockets immediately followed. The lollipops gave us a glimpse of hope for about 30 seconds when our saint of a hairstylist took the opportunity to trim up around his ears. It wasn't until the manager/owner/receptionist (????) with a knack for blowing bubbles came to the rescue that the 16 month baby mullet was laid to rest. Cars, lollipops, bubbles, balloons and tv all combine to make for what should be a successful haircut for most. But with my maniac son, it was the customer service that pushed us through. I took my 2.5 year old daughter for her first haircut on Wednesday. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and very soft with the children. My toddler was freaking out a little, but she got to choose her own car (the seats are bad ass cars) and show to watch on the telly. The stylist did a before and after photo, decorated her hair, took an after photo and then took us for a nail polish change! She was very attentive and courteous. At the end we got a lollipop And balloon. About $35 after tip, but definitely worth the experience and professional time. They were very detailed and the blunt cut is exceptional. read more

We've been bringing our toddler here in spite of the price and the quality because he enjoys the cars and the cartoons and will usually not mind getting the haircut. But we won't be going back after today. We had an 11:40 appointment for which we showed up about 6-7 minutes late and were told they wouldn't take him because of their 7 minute policy. It wasn't fun trying to explain to our 3 year old why he couldn't ride in the police car as he'd been so excited to do. Seems a little ridiculous to hold small children to such a standard. The place is amazing. Younger kids get to sit in vehicles and older kids have a choice of chairs in front of video games if they want or a pink room with movie lights and dress up clothes. We see Rachel who is amazing. She had always cut my son's hair but we just had her cut my daughters hair. Included in the hair cut is a braid, glitter and scents (if you want) and polished nails. In my opinion, don't walk, RUN as far and as fast from this place as you can. We made an appointment for 10:30 am for a kids haircut for my 1 1/2 year old through the website. I received a confirmation email, and sent back the confirmation. The website said the salon opened at 10 am, so we planned to be there by 10:15 am. The next day, we are there at 10:15 am, but the shop is closed. Lights off, nobody in sight, crickets. We waited outside for 20 minutes and called - no answer. So we left to go home - all this after getting my Son ready, packing the diaper bag and schlepping him down to to Ballard. Driving back, we went past the salon again, and this time the Open sign is on. What the heck? I parked in the loading zone, left my Wife and Son in the car, and went inside. The conversation went like this: Me: Hi - so you are open! Employee: Yep (dripping with attitude and sarcasm) Me: Well... we had a 10:30 am appointment. I waited outside for over 20 minutes with a 1 1/2 year old. Employee: Yeah, I live by the airport, and there was a lot of traffic. We don't have any way to contact you (dripping with attitude and sarcasm). Me: Well you open at 10 am right? Employee: Not on Tuesday (dripping with attitude and sarcasm) Me: your website says you open at 10 am, and that sign in your window says you open at 10 am on Tuesday as well? Employee: I guess my boss hasn't gotten around to changing it yet (dripping with attitude and sarcasm). Employee: I can still do the cut if you want. (dripping with attitude and sarcasm) Me: I think we'll pass, thanks. This is not the end of the world as we know it. But it is pretty dang galling to set up an appointment for your kid, receive confirmation of the appointment, go to all the trouble of arriving early / on time, wait outside in the freezing cold only to receive a huge ration of sarcasm and attitude. Mistakes happen; it's the response that matters. This response was a missed opportunity that resulted in the loss of a potentially long-term customer. My nine-year old son requested to come to a kid's salon. Since we're new in town, I decided to look and see what was around. There are no kid's salons located in my specific city but since we were taking a trip to Seattle, I decided to make an adventure out of it. This kid's salon is top notch! Everything was great except they're currently experiencing some computer gliche problems while booking online. It's probably best to call for an appt. or once your here book your next one in advance. Located in Ballard, it's not far from The Ballard Locks which is a fun place to take the kids before or after your appt. And on Sunday's there's Ballard's Farmers Market to go to. Either way, your about 12 min away from Seattle Center so it's a great place to get a haircut and still get in a day of fun. Our hairstylist for this appt. was Tey. I absolutely love her!!! She was so good with my son. Very friendly, but didn't make him feel overwhelmed with being too over the top conversationalist. My son tends to be very shy, so it helps when we find a hairstylist that knows just the right blend of calm and talkative. Her haircut was so wonderful!!! She really listened to our needs and even suggested a better way of getting it done that gave us the results we needed. My son has very sensitive skin, so it's important to use the buzzard the least amount possible. This was one of the few times I had my son walk out of a salon without him getting red bumps along his neckline. She was very careful and really took her time to give him a great cut! My son expressed an interest in changing his haircut to a different style. Tey was great in helping us decide how we could get there without him looking sloppy in the process. I really appreciated her help too in finding a shampoo to fit his needs. Their product line is the best I've seen at a kid's salon. The best part for my son was playing video games during his haircut. He was in heaven. I really appreciated the service provided by their receptionist too. She was great about listening to the complaint I had about their booking online gliche, and was sure to tell her manager right away. It makes me feel like they really care about taking care of their customers right. I even forgot my shampoo and she called to let me know they'd hold onto it for me until I could come back to retrieve it. Such nice people here! I love everything that this place has to offer. Don't be intimated by the location. It's a little tricky to get to, but if you lock that address into your GPS, it'll steer you there despite the crazy road intertwinings. Just know that you want to stay left to catch the Ballard Bridge. Which if your on Mercer St., it will just directly take you onto it. After the bridge stay in right hand lane to exit almost immediately afterward. There will be a Ross, Trader Joe's, and Top Pots in the same shopping center. It was well worth the trip!!! read more

We went to Sharkey's Cuts for our son's haircut and it was awesome because they are fully armed with all the tools to keep the kids distracted enough to give them a good haircut. Starting with a awesome car seats that actually turn on to individual TV's for each station and video games. Sharkey's in Ballard definitely has it covered when it comes to that arena. We were also very satisfied with the haircut. Because my son is mine he has a unusually shaped head but the stylist was able to accommodate our unusually shaped heads to give them an adorable haircut. Also the owners of this place were very sweet. They are extremely kind and very accommodating. They are also very calm in a very hectic environment which is kinda key for a place like this. I would strongly recommend Sharkey's to any parents with little ones. It is a great experience for your kids AND they will walk out with a good haircut! read more

Great facility. Coolest haircut cars in town. And that's where the positive notes end. Stylist was a rookie with kids & was not communicative. She appeared to disliked her job and was not particularly good at it. We may try again with a different stylist. Tip: don't expect a 2 yr old to look at their lap for prolonged periods so you can trim their neck. Especially when you've put on a personal tv for them that they have to look up to see. Turn off the tv and put toys in their lap. Viola, they look down! All the other kids cuts places seem to have this figured out. Loved the cute cars and my 2.5 year old son loved that he got a lollipop and a balloon, however the stylist (I unfortunately did not get her name:) did a terrible job on his haircut. He was extremely well behaved and sat still for the entire cut (entranced, I imagine, by the cool Netflix screens they have at each chair:) but his haircut is completely uneven and VERY short in some places. I would never go here again. I'd return to have them fix it but it's so short in spots that the only option would be to buzz it about 1/4" everywhere and I'd rather just wait for it to grow out. Someone asked me today if we cut his hair at home. $30 for this? No, thank you. Dee was fantastic with my three year old. She was so accommodating and understanding with him, even though he was anxious. The cut was great too, so much better than other hair cuts he had received at places that didn't cater to kids, because Dee spent time getting him calm and showing him her tools before she started. Later that month, when we were shopping at Trader Joe's, he wanted to stop in and day "hi" to her. Even though she was on her break, was so so so gracious and she came out to chat and give him a high five. This place is easily worth the extra premium price over a regular salon if your kid is nervous getting their hair cut. read more

The staff is extremely friendly, salon is very kid-friendly (for a variety of ages), location is convenient, they give back to the community (donations given to Seattle Children's Hospital and other businesses). The hair stylists are great with kids. I am so impressed-and thrilled they are in the area. I had been looking for a kid friendly salon that does manicures for little girls and gives reliably good hair cuts. This is the place. Seriously. Tell your friends and try it out next time your little one needs a hair cut. They also have xBox stations for the older kids so it's appealing to a variety of kids. I scheduled my appointment online and received a response within a few hours. Upon arrival my 19 month old son was highly skeptical of the situation but the staff were fantastic! Vanessa spent time being silly, sitting on the ground, and introducing him to the equipment and race car. She was skilled, efficient, and had a toy/distraction at just the right moments. She only charged us for a bang trim and our son left looking clean cut, happy and tear-free with a balloon in hand. We were encouraged to stop by and let our son hang out the next time we were in the neighborhood to acclimate him to the environment. I've been taking both my children here for over a year. A couple months ago the stylist we had an appointment with was a half hour late claiming that her gps took her a weird way which I don't believe because she's one that's been there since we've been going, you know how to get to work by now. Then yesterday we show up to our appointment to find the place all locked up with a sign on the door saying they're closed for the day. Another parent showed up shortly after us with the same deal, she made an appointment and no ones there. No phone call, nothing. I had to take my child out of school early to make those appointments, getting out these days is difficult so I was really frustrated at that point and it derailed our whole afternoon not to mention my kids were pretty unhappy. I called the shop today and spoke to a manager who offered a half hearted sorry. I'm not going back to sharkys. read more

I love that Sharkey's does the "first haircut" service with before/after pictures, hair collection, and a certificate... but the haircuts themselves are - eh - not the best. Both of my boys sit still during haircuts, so it wasn't the wiggling that prevented the stylists from making their locks look cute. Both of boys left with straight-across-the-forehead cuts, kind of like the stylists had used bowls define the line. I expect more for $30+ per trim!! read more

I took my 3 and 6 year old girls here for haircuts today and we had a great experience. They both have long, thick, tangle-prone hair and it is well worth the extra money I spend at a kids salon like this. Besides, their prices are the same as Kids Club in U Village and you get more for your money. Included in the price is a wash of course, a mini manicure, a little plastic ring, lollipop, fun chairs and a balloons. A previous reviewer rated low because of all the extras but the extras are why we come here. If you have a toddler boy who needs a buzz cut, this may not be the place for you but it is definitely the place for us. I shudder to think what a nightmare my active 3 year old would be at a place like Supercuts without a stylist used to working with wiggly kids and something to entertain her for the hour it takes to wash, comb out, and cut her hair. I usually end up spending extra money at the Kids Club toy store so Sharkys was cheaper anyway. The owners were super friendly and the stylists were great with my girls. We only get haircuts a couple times a year and will not hesitate to make the drive up from Burien to come here again. read more
