I've been going to Rudy's salons for almost a decade, and I even have a friend who works at one of the locations. However, I've never had a haircut as rushed as the one I got here. The stylist was kind and even offered to wash my hair beforehand, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the actual cut felt incredibly rushed. I asked for a simple blunt cut with some face-framing layers, but the haircut was done in about five minutes, and I had to give instructions for the framing. I never got a chance to see the progress because the mirrors were too high, and they didn't show me the finished result with a handheld mirror. I was in and out in just 20 minutes, and when I got home and finally saw my hair properly, I realized the cut was uneven with long sections they'd missed. I had to trim it myself to try and fix it. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing experience. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the stylist was at least friendly. read more

Was a client for about 4 years getting nothing but short cuts and buzz cuts, in and out in 15 minutes generally. I had difficulty getting to an appointment on time, called ahead and let them know, was told it shouldn't be an issue. Sure enough I showed up 7 minutes late (which is what I said on the phone) and now the hair stylist just doesn't want to see me (she was just sitting in the back). Both myself and my husband go to Rudy's for our haircuts. We both see Tera and even though I have really long hair and his is short we always walk away with the perfect cut. My husband is pretty particular about his cut and Tera nails it every time. I also enjoy the relaxed but professional atmosphere of Rudy's in Fremont and am happy to go back every time. read more

First, I am friendly and pleasant to stylist and feel like a poor cut will always grow out eventually. I have given up on hoping for the best from Rudy's. At Fremont, I was very precise about what I wanted with my fine hair. I clearly said, 1-a blunt cut without feathering, just evenly straight 2- I want five inches cut off of all the same length. what I got was a dry cut that was uneven and two distinctly different lengths in the back. Weird! She wound my hair in twists and then used thinning shears to cut it. When I asked why, she said that it gave the ends a fuller look. She did not ask how I wanted my hair parted before cutting, but chose to part it in the center top--which I never do, since I have a natural part to the side. she added that at the end of the cut, she would wet my hair to make sure that there were no stray long hairs. She never wet my hair. There are stray long hairs. when I got home, my daughter's first comment was that my hair was cut unevenly in the back. the appointment was for an hour, the cut took less than 25 minutes to arrive, pay, and leave. I traveled from another state and waited weeks to get my hair cut. I will pay for another cut when I return home Rather than wait for this poor cut to grow out. read more

I am a 5 year customer of Rudy's. My husband is probably on his 15th year. We have had excellent cuts from Megan who has been promoted to a corporate position and we finally found a stylist we really liked. I made my appointment as usual, arrived one minute prior, as was told that my place had been taken by another customer who arrived early for their appointment. I was told I could wait 20 minutes. No apology. I came back 20 minutes later and the stylist admitted she grabbed the next client in line for her without actually checking to see who it should be. The receptionist did nothing to amend the situation at all. I told her I would be letting corporate know, and she shot back that "corporate has nothing to do with this." Of course, I was annoyed. While sitting in the chair getting my cut, I overhear the receptionist with the tu-tone hair remarking to the other stylists that since it is a "new moon" customers have been...and I quote "a**holes." Since I don't want to be an "a**hole" I will be happily taking my 2x a month haircut somewhere else. read more

Then, about six months ago, their automated reservation system started dropping appointments, forcing us to reschedule appointments (and then canceled the rescheduled appointments). The final straw came after the stylist my wife and I had been seeing for 10+ years informed my wife (mid-cut) that she (the stylist) had been exposed to COVID-19, but she was sure she wasn't infected--and we got a call the next day informing her that the stylist's COVID-19 test came back positive. After we both pretty bitterly complained about the treatment we (as longtime customers) had been receiving, my wife got a call today, right before a scheduled appointment, that they no longer wanted to serve us because we'd bee too "disruptive" in our complaints about the service. So if this is the kind of service you want and expect from the businesses you patronize regularly, Fremont Rudy's is the place for you. If not, STEER CLEAR. read more

Got my hair cut here last week - have another hair appointment today elsewhere to get it fixed. Bad haircuts happen, I totally get that. I could have done a better job of communicating what I wanted (lesson learned). The issue I have is with the customer service in general. I booked an appointment through their online scheduling system with a specific stylist (one that I had seen multiple times before who knows exactly what kind of cut I want). When I got to Rudy's, the person at the front desk asked me if I still wanted to see the stylist I had booked - I said "yes" and thought it was nice that they double-checked. When my appointment time rolled around, a different stylist came to grab me. This was super awkward because my usual stylist was a. free and b. two chairs away (starting to work on someone else who had just walked in). I would totally understand if my stylist was overbooked, wanted to go on a break, etc. Being blown off like that was super awkward, and the bad haircut was just insult to injury. :/ read more

I'm a Rudy's fan! I'm the type of person who waits until her hair get out of control then needs to get a haircut THAT DAY! However, I also hate paying 100 for a shampoo, cut and dry. I've always had to wait at Rudy's as a walk in, but it's always expected. I make an afternoon of it. Put my name on the list. Go grab some coffee at Fremont Coffee, come back and have a sit while I catch up on news or fun magazines. Even though I plan on waiting, I never finish my coffee before my name is called. It occurred to me that even if they called my name now I didn't have time to get my haircut and get my other stuff done during the day. I just got up and left. 15 minutes driving each direction. Do not go here if you are black and/or have textured hair. My stylist had never cut a black person's hair in her entire career and she made it known constantly. All I needed was an all over approximately 1" long cut with some slight tapering around the back/sides. She couldn't even handle that. I had to tell her step by step what to do. She would not stop taking about how she didn't really know what she was doing and making excuses as to why she did not know how to cut my hair. It was a very uncomfortable experience. First off, don't use their online booking website.. it doesn't work. Second, don't go there. Let me tell you about my experience. I'm a new mom, my baby is four months old. I'd been looking forward to getting a haircut for the first time in almost a year, leaving the baby with his dad for the first time ever, taking a ferry all the way to Seattle and paying for parking, just to get a little "me time." I used to live in Fremont so I thought it would be cool to go here. I get to Rudy's (a chaotic trip, but made my appointment time), and they inform me that they don't see my appointment and they're booked solid. I don't know when I'll have another chance to get a haircut. I broke down in tears. Horrible customer service. They lack empathy for customers who book appointments through their lousy booking system, and they don't care about new moms. I felt defeated. Don't go there. read more

It's good that it's never very busy, you can get an appointment or walk-in pretty much the same day or in a day. But the quality also explains why it's easy to get an appointment... This Rudy's is pretty close, gave it a try. The haircut was pretty bad. 2 stars is for the haircut. I'm pretty sure there are lots of great hairdressers works for Rudy's. I, will never go back there. The girl ho gave me the 'haircut'. I asked a Thor Ragnarok style hair, but got rather just buzz cut, with slippy edges. The 'barber' didn't wash my hair at all, simply blow-dried from my neck and put a bunch of sculpting paste on my hair. My whole face was in the small chops of hairs, so I had to go to the restroom to wash my face. She got me in and out within 15 minutes. Still charged me full price 36$!!! When got back to home and washed my hair - found a bunch of single hair (as a full length, like before cut) sticking out of my head. read more

My friend came here to get a simple cut (he wanted a two on the sides and taper it to the top) and the stylist left him with a bunch of uneven patches and even a bald spot. I have been going to Rudy's for almost 10 years and I have always found their relatively inexpensive haircuts to be convenient, their wait times tolerable and the hipster attitude somewhat entertaining. For the most part, I have always tolerated the too-cool-for school hipster attitude, inability to open on time, the long lines and the more than occasional bad haircuts as the cost of doing business for a relatively cheap haircut. However, their prices have gone up recently and the extra pressure one feels to leave a tip of $5.00 or $10.00 has pushed the price for a simple haircut to the point where those inconveniences aren't really tolerable any longer. If you enjoy waiting for a $40.00 mediocre haircut from a 20-something, tattooed hipster with purple hair and a crapy attitude Rudy's is your place. If you don't pay just a little bit more and go someplace else. read more

Hip, funky and walk in appointments, I liked coming to Rudy's. I like the shop pup and the beverages that you can add to your bill. Parking is a bit iffy (especially if you are doing a color and over 2 hours) and appointments are scheduled a bit haphazardly , there is no reminders or text messages. The place overall feels like it caters mostly to men, rather than a salon. However, I really enjoyed my stylist, Nyla (blue hair). She is really good, listens well, takes her time to explain what is going on/the hair science behind it and can do both professional and trendy. If you go there, make sure to ask for her. read more

It's taken me 2 months to get over this. The boyfriend came in here to get a haircut. His hair was getting a bit long and he asked them to trim it but to keep it long for the most part. He walked out with an Asian bowl cut. I kid you not. He's almost 30...he has clearly outgrown the Asian bowl cut...his mommy is no longer cutting his hair for free. I mean, I know he's Asian and he said "keep it kind of long, but do what you think is best." I guess whoever cut his hair things that all Asians have bowl cuts. He wasn't even sure what to think since he usually goes to the local barbershop and he thought he could get something better/cooler at Rudys. WRONG. After coming home from my cut, I realized this place gave me head lice. Edit: I was contacted by the business owner shorty after positing this review, who apologized to me and assured me that there are in fact standards in place to keep this sort of thing from happening. I was invited back, but I see no reason to drop another $30 for a cut at a place that I do not trust. I did not get one of these, so everyone crying "cheap! cheap!" must be talking about some other place. $17 for a bad haircut is not cheap. It is very expensive. Allow me to elaborate. Service was quick in that I was in the chair within 5 min of walking in, however I also go there 10 min after they opened on a Saturday morning. The lady who cut my hair seemed perturbed that I didn't understand how their pricing worked. Apparently for the $10 "Buzz" price you are supposed to get the same number guard all over, but they are nice and can use 2. However....they will NOT touch the scissors for blending or for any other part of your head. I wanted my bangs a little longer and she said that then its a full "style haircut" $25... So I just had her use scissors all over since their longest guard (4) was shorter than what I wanted anyway. She seemed pissed that now she had to use scissors all over my head and my haircut ended up kind of shoddy....Hair around the the ears was not trimmed properly and neither was the area at the back of my head. After she was done she didn't even show me the back of my head with a mirror, I had to ask and she looked taken aback.. Will not return, Supercuts and Mastercuts are cheaper, nicer, and provide better quality cuts. read more
