I AM SO MAD AT MY INLAWS FOR NOT TELLING ME ABOUT THIS PLACE! just moved this side of the river after living next to and formerly working at fabric depot. Do you know my in laws have had me driving miles out my way to mill ends or joanns because they never told me about this little gem? The place is roughly 3x as big as you'd think it is from the outside, with a long arm quilting machine (and I'm assuming service) a large classroom/work room area, a kids play area and retail area. They have nice colorful/ modern and traditional fabrics that and have managed the quilt store impossible - balancing ratios or retro/modern fabrics. Staff were fairly friendly and I wasn't treated like some young shoplifter (you know the vibe in some quilt shops I swear ) I would highly recommend a walk through at the very least and if youre looking to learn to sew a class! read more

The classes offered are very informative and there is something for everyone from the most experienced with 30+ years experience to the novice just starting out. The owner is very nice until you disagree with her on something, even trivial, and then she is terribly rude. We asked if she had a particular Riley Blake fabric, and she snapped, "I can't carry everything." We will find a different fabric store. read more

Tried multiple times purchasing from this shop believing the first couple poor visits were bad days for the employees. I love this store! Sharon is so nice. I have taken several classes there and learned so much. I took several Tucker Trimmer classes from Sharon and a Free Motion quilting class from Helene. I am so happy and am sewing so much better already. I love the fabric choices and every time I go in there seems to be a sale the fabric is a great value and high quality. There is a huge variety of fabric as the store is way larger than it looks from outside. I have been looking for a quilt store and have found it. I've been to this shop many times through the years. I love their choice of fabrics and I don't mind being left alone while I shop and try to figure out what to buy. I do ask questions once in a while and always receive help. Very often the shop has customers sewing in the back room and there is a lot of happy chatter which is welcoming. Sometimes checkout can be slow due to multiple people in line and only one person working up front. it might help to have a bell or something to call another person up to the counter if needed. This shop is great! The woman who was working there yesterday (whose name I neglected to find out), was super duper helpful and friendly. We discussed a particular project and she had some very good ideas. The selection of fabric is amazing and is of very good quality. I didn't have much time, so I didn't get to browse the entire selection of drool-worthy cloth, which is probably a very good thing. As it was, I couldn't resist purchasing a couple of yards. The only downside to the shop is the location. Specifically, the driveway access to the parking lot. If you are going south on Cornelius Pass Road, to turn left into the parking lot is difficult - the driveway is very small and the rude drivers coming across the parking lot block the driveway and then just sit there. I had to wait about 5 minutes to even get into the driveway itself. read more

I'm sorry that some people have had negative experiences at this business, but I have been impressed every time I've been here. Sometimes you do have to get someone's attention so they know that you need assistance, but it's because they pay attention to their customers and take a personal interest in their needs. I was here today and the woman helping me spent an hour scouring inventory with me to see if we could find a fabric that would match my current project. Several people got involved to give me resources for the continued search... I really like this store and recommend it for fellow quilters. read more

I really wanted to give this shop a high rating, I really, really, wanted to. I wanted to so badly that I did not post a review last March when I first visited it and was underwhelmed by the rudeness of the staff and the overpricing of fabrics. I bought nothing on that trip and that is very unusual for me. I always try to buy something when I go to a shop, even if it is just a small item. I found myself back at this shop and against my better judgement went on in, hoping that had just been an off day. My bad. Either I have had the misfortune of visiting on days when they were having an off day, or this is just the way they are. I walk in, no one around. A few minutes later a lady comes out and says "If you want sale stuff it is in that area back there and there is more fabric around the shop" Then she disappeared again. I looked around for a few minutes and then told my guy there was nothing I needed so we started to go. Someone appears and says "We just got all this bee fabric in. You know you want it" Nope, I really don't. I very politely said I was just looking for a particular fabric but thank you and headed out of the shop. Before the door closed I heard one woman say "Well we knew she wasn't buying anything didn't we?" Just rude. I travel quite a bit and I always go to fabric shops, just ask my long suffering hubby and friends, lol. I will not be returning to this shop again. read more

This is a wonderful shop filled with people who are ready to help or give you ideas. There are many classes to take and the teachers are priceless. (Classes on the list I saw were - quilting - painting on fabric - paper piecing - basket making - Embroidery - long arm machine...and many many more. She was so rude to me. I am kind to everyone. She didn't care. I had a question about an item in the store. She had no problem making me feel stupid when I asked. Over the past year I have been working thru finishing my UFO's and made 6 new quilts for gifts. Sharons Attic quilted them all for me. There work was excellent and done within the frame given. The fabric choices and quilting supplies are abundant and their prices seem to match the quality. I would encourage any quilter to visit the store and if they desire bring your machine and pull up a chair. The store has a very neighborhood feel to it. read more

All her friends rally around her and help her run her shop while she is caring for her family matters. If you go in, be patient. Look around. A wealth of fabulous fabrics. Although the fabric selection is great, the customer service is severely lacking. I am from out of town and usually like to pick up a quilting project from a local quilt shop. We were in the store looking at fabric for over and hour and were never even acknowledged by anyone. I tried to engage the owner, but she was not interested providing any help. What a fabulous place... It has a larger selection and better prices than BOLT in NE portland...and even though I LIVE in NE portland, 4 blocks from BOLT, Sharon's is where I go for the majority of my fabric-buying and quilting. Sharon and Steve and their elves are so helpful and knowledgeable, and can always offer suggestions on long-arm quilters, batting types, even what size thread to use. I'm 26, and have been quilting for 6 years, and since I started going to Sharon's about a year ago, I've easily quadrupled my knowledge, ability, and portfolio. I go at least once a week to sit and sew with my old ladies, as I lovingly refer to them, in the big sewing room, outfitted with tables, outlets, irons and ironing boards, and other resources. There's almost always two or three people just chatting and sewing after work, and it makes quilting more social and fun. I've taken one class at Sharon's, which was a HUGE success (again, much less expensive than the classes at bolt, but easily worth the bolt prices or more). I have gained so much knowledge outside that class just from chatting with the other, more experienced quilters/sewers there. And (I know I'm going on and on, I'll stop soon) the ladies are always bringing in their latest masterpieces, which are SO FUN to admire, or commenting on how beautiful yours is...even more fun :) It's a long ride from Portland, but if you're a crafty person or a fabric addict there's nowhere more worth the ride than Sharon's. read more

I thought that discrimination against individuals with disabilities was against the law, I guess not.... Today I experienced something that I have never felt; the desire to cause a person bodily injury or pain. About three weeks ago I signed up for a class that would teach me how to use a long arm quilting machine, at a local Portland quilting shop called Sharon's attic, after which I would be able to rent their machine by the hour to quilt my own quilts. I was so excited to finally be attending this class, because I love to quilt and wanted to be able to finish my quilts off by quilting them myself. I arrived at the shop, and sat (patiently) listening to the instructor (Steve) for about an hour and a half (due to his speech impairment) as he provided the basics about quilting prior to allowing me and the other student to begin actually learning how to use the quilting machine. I was so excited. Let the training begin. The next hour was spent setting up the machine to prepare the quilt for quilting; it was during this time that the issues began to make themselves known. Steve began by telling me that I would read the instructions while the other student set up the machine and then we would switch, so I thought nothing of it and began reading. This continued with Steve making minor comments such as "you will not be able to do that part of the set-up, or Look! She(meaning me) can pin the quilt (I have quilted for over 10 years). I let these comments slide because I have grown accustomed to people assuming that I could not complete certain tasks only to prove them wrong by accomplishing what "they" thought I could not with a few adaptations on my end. As the training session continued Steve begin to pointedly ignore me while he demonstrated to the other student what he wanted her to do. At first I thought that I was misinterpreting what he was doing, until he blatantly walked in front of me (with his back to me) and began explaining what he wanted her to next, as if I were not in the room? The other student began to make a simple design using the quilting machine. Once she had completed this task I stated very clearly that I now wanted to try to make the same design with the quilting machine. Steve looked at me and stated in a very straight forward no nonsense, cold voice, "NO!"..., I looked at him in shock that he had actually stated that I could not use the quilting machine that I was paying to learn to use. In my shock I ask him why. He stated, "No, you cannot..." without explanation. At this point I became angry..., and asked him how he could tell me that I could not use the machine without even allowing me to try to use it. I gathered my personal items and prepared to leave the quilt shop. As I stormed to the door I stopped at the front desk of the quilting shop to explain to the shop owner Sharon that the instructor Steve had denied me the ability to even try to use the quilting machine. She apologized for his behavior and stated that she would speak to him later. My first though was why she would not speak to him, Now!, as opposed to later. To me this condoned his behavior, not discouraged it. For those of you that have never met me personally, I have one arm. My right arm was amputated at birth. I was always taught that it was up to me to figure out a way to adapt, so I have spent my life always trying to do everything that a person with two arms could do. I am not complaining because I am accustomed to this, but to be denied the opportunity to even try to use the quilting machine by such a closed minded, narrow thinking individual was insulting. I thought that discrimination against individuals with disabilities was against the law, I guess not.... read more

DO NOT give this establishment business, it has the worst customer service. I would have given a zero star if it would let me. Found the place online, called them first to ask them if they could fix a hole in my quilt, brought it in to Sharon and discussed how she was going to fix it and it would be after the Holidays. 5 months later we began calling, everytime she said "I'm working on it next". Then I called and she wasn't there a worker said they would call us back, 3 months later (now a total of 8 months) we show up and she never even touched the quilt. Never had the decency to call us back. We could have learned to quilt in 8 months or found someone else to do it. Barely got an apology. read more

Lorraine H says she thinks that discrimination is against the law? She's right. She also needs to take a look at herself and be ashamed that she even thought about causing bodily harm to someone who's also disabled. Only thing is, Steven's disability is much worse than hers because his can't be seen. Steve doesn't have as speech impairment, he has a brain disease called Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA). For those that don't know what this is, it's a degeneration in the part of the brain that controls the speech and language. For this reason Steve sometimes says things that come across as harsh or don't make sense. Sharon said she would talk to him later because sometimes it takes time for her to explain to him what the issue is. If Lorraine hadn't gotten so mad and just talked to Sharon calmly, she might have had a very good lesson. I'm sorry that whoever signed Lorraine up for her long arm class didn't explain this to her but they didn't. Steve is an amazing long arm quilter, the work he does is fantastic. Rarely does a day go by when there isn't someone working on something in the large classroom. Everyone of those people would go above and beyond to help every person who walks thru the door, from the brand new quilter to someone who's been quilting for years and years. No one is EVER discriminated against. Sharon has a wonderful selection of fabrics; Batiks, kids, groupings, flannels and even Christmas. She carries a large selection of notions, books and patterns. And her classes are as varied as the people who teach them. All in all Sharon's Attic Quilt Shop is the best quilt shop in the entire metro area, I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Very slow service. Brought a quilt to get repaired from a hole my dog chewed and it's been over 7 months to fix. They didn't even have the decency to call with updates on why it's taking so long or when it should be done. Very disappointing. read more

There are so few shops on the west side of town to find good quality quilting fabric, but this shop really isn't the solution. I've been there a number of times and with only one or two exceptions, I've found the staff to be rather rude and condescending. They seem to assume no one who walks in the door knows anything about quilting. This morning I called to see if they carry any Civil War reproduction prints and the woman who answer the phone seemed very confused, so I explained what I was looking for and she said, 'Oh yes, we do" and started naming fabric designers--none of which specialize in reproduction fabrics. I asked if they had any of those designers' 19th-century reproduction prints, and she said, "I'm not sure." Okay. I asked if there was anyone there I could talk with who might know, and she said, "No." So unimpressed...again. read more

Really dislike this quilt shop. I took a beginners quilting class there and they overbooked it. There were way too many people in the class (about 16), and not nearly enough instructors. The instructors helped the people that they knew before they would help the rest of us and there would be times that I would have to wait around until nearly 10:00 to get help with my quilt. Then Sharon would say to come in on the weekend and you could get help and work on your quilt so I went in a couple of times and would have to wait around for about an hour to get help. I finally became so frustrated with their lack of help that I stopped going and now I have a 1/2 finished quilt that I want to finish but I will not go back there so I am trying to find someplace else. Very frustrating, felt like once they had my money they didn't care anymore. read more
