In reality it was mostly just a fatty whole thigh, with lots of unmelted fat and flabby skin. Smoke flavor was ok but the meat itself was bland and heavy. No seasoning whatsoever, and I wasn't impressed with the sauces. Versatile places do poultry lean and juicy, but this was anything but. Staff was rude, seemed annoyed when we attempted to order. Meat in warmer looked good, we were given meat (brisket) on cutting table that was warm at best. I was corrected when I inquired of what looked like mashed potatoes with a pool of condensate floating on top "it is potato salad" as she stirred the condensate into the contents of the pan. Informed to try the corn "it is the best side". Found a pile of dry clumps of corn/cream corn? I mixed the contents in the pan a poured myself a small serving. I had the half chicken with jalapeño corn and beans. The chicken was meaty, flavorful and moist. The jalapeño corn is tasty, but not spicy. The beans were good and thick. Way more food than I could finish. I would definitely go back. read more

In keeping with typical Abilenian cuisine, Sharon's BBQ serves the normal spice free tasteless food I have come to expect from most restaurants in Abilene, Texas. We were forced to eat here this Sunday due to the fact that all decent restaurants were double packed for lunch. After finding no open parking place at four other restaurants we were driving by Sharon's and saw only 4 cars in their parking at 12:30pm on a Sunday. I knew that was bad sign, but having skipped breakfast and being very hungry, I said "Any port in a storm". Well, I should have kept driving. I LOVE me some barbecue. Especially some good old dry rub brisket. I always get the brisket plate with everything and vinegar sauce, so I don't know how anything else is (except for sampling my girlfriend's ham), but I know that what I've had is certainly the best in town. I visited this place today at lunch with my boyfriend and was pleasantly surprised. The place is a little on the smaller side, but has great decorations and feels very comfortable. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. The cornbread is not amazing, but good. The meat was also very tasty, but the sides leave something to be desired. I won't reduce my rating based on this though, I really am not a fan of most sides which are served at BBQ restaurants. The green beans were pretty amazing. I usually get their family meal which is a bunch of sliced brisket and the sides with a loaf of their homemade bread. A bit pricey for bbq for around here but you get what you pay for. Its always hot and good. Their sauce is the best in town. The sauce is what keeps me coming back. Their chopped brisket sandwiches are great on the go also. I was hired by this company two days ago. I'd been applying for five years, and they interviewed me three times in the past and always passed me up at the last second. But two days ago, they called me up and offered me a job on the spot, no interview. I was excited and went in right then. They gave me a shirt and hat and set me to work. A few hours into it they made me a sandwich and when it was time to get off work, they gave me two big bag of food they were going to toss out anyway. The next day, I got a call from the manager, and he told me they were going to "go a different direction" and for me not to come in anymore. No explanation given. I asked about payment for the six hours I worked the previous night and he hung up. I've called multiple times asking for my payment, and I've been hung up on every time. I think they just wanted free labour out of me. As for the food I had while there, the sandwich they gave me was a BBQ sandwich, and was so awful that I went outside and threw it back up. The food they gave me was some corn-stuff (I don't know what it was called), and it was alright, and they gave me some blackberry cobbler. It was totally dry, and wasn't even cobbler-y. I only know it was supposed to be cobbler because they told me it was supposed to be. I recommend everyone stay far away from this place, and also DO NOT APPLY FOR A JOB HERE!! The place is a little run down, nothing special inside. It could use some remodeling. The bar-b-que is very good. I have eaten all of it at one time or another and it is always top notch. Some of the best you will ever eat. The beans are pretty good. I like the sweet cornbread. The sides, green beans, coleslaw, potato salad aren't very good.
