Essentially he had 4 different types of brain injuries. The care he recived here was excellent! The staff was always upbeat and very encouraging to him and us his family and friends. They accommodated all our needs even if it was against their protocol, like letting mom and dad spend the night and be with him 24/7. The speech therapist, the occupational therapist and physical therapist all got him walking, eating on his own and regain the strength in his hand. I was waiting for it, but just not assertive enough I suppose. Maybe I just was overlooked I also was introduced to EMDR therapy, but I guess that the office my therapist and I were in had been converted into an unofficial break room for the past clients who gotten employed by and still live there. Most recently, my step grandfather's wife was a resident at Grossmont Post Acute Care to recover after back surgery. It is very easy to visit, and there is a little sign-in book in the entry reception area. The buiding itself is located in a beautiful Mid-Century modern structure fashioned in the shape of a star. If a patient contracts COVID-19, protocols are followed and the patient is isolated.

I am a current resident of this facility. I have resorted to coming to yelp to warn people about…read morethis place instead of raising hell and making waves while I am here. I am in fear of being mistreated for the remainder of my stay. I will say though, some nurses have been great and they know who they are. Since the day I have arrived I have documented everything about my experience, the malpractice, the neglect, the work ethic of this staff, the lack of advocacy from the CASE WORKERS, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. For the entire month of May I have been bedridden. I was given the option to sit here for a month until I am approved to start PT again, or sit at home and come back. I definitely made the wrong choice because this entire month has been absolute hell and I regret choosing the benefit of the doubt over my own health. I also assumed I would be in the best of care rather than putting myself at risk of falling. I know now that I should have made efforts to find another facility, but my main focus should be MY RECOVERY and this place seemed to be the best rated one that my insurance allows. My heart breaks for these other residents that don't feel cared for or feel any progress with PT and the activities dept. Activities feel like they are limited to basically a brain-dead type of person because theres is absolutely no stimulation or REAL activities. The part that hurts me the most, especially after seeing another similar review, I'm having to do my own physical therapy while in bed. They send one person thats working pro bono to stretch my limbs 3 days a week. Even though its short & brief she is a Godsend and the only humane person in this place. I have been put on and off of working with PT to help progress my recovery, but no one has given ANY clear straight answer as to why. I requested to speak to a case manager 5 days ago and for the last 5 days have repeatedly asked...nothing. This may not bring any closure or change, but people need to know for the ones that are unable to advocate for themselves. Be cautious when considering short or long term care at these facilities. I guess when it comes to this one in particular, insurance plays a big role into how you are treated as a HUMAN BEING and it is completely barbaric. This is my first yelp review ever in my life and its the most horrific one. If anyone has any pointers on any more avenues I can go down to have my issues addressed please let me know!! To give even more perspective on how this facility has been run: From my notes: 5/21/26 4:30AM staff found my roommate COMPLETELY ON THE FLOOR, not knowing how long she had been there. That concerns me because they usually change her DAILY starting at 3am. Plus, shouldn't the overnight staff be checking on residents throughout the night? THE STAFF HAD THE NERVE TO ASK ME WHY DIDNT I HEAR HER FALL AND HAD I KNOWN THAT SHE FELL!!!! I was asleep!!!! I will do my best to advocate for her. No one should have to go through that. I'm not even sure if she has family to contact or help her cope through that traumatic experience of being in the dark, on the cold hard floor, and alone.

Physical therapist at the hospital was not good at all, they would walk in demand I sat up, one even tried to rough arm me to keep me up. Then as I needed more time to heal, I was transferred to la mesa healthcare, I was scared, never had to be in a trained nursing facility. I have to say that first night I was terrified (drug induced) my day 1, nightmares over. The staff treated me with great dignity and concern for me, yes it was about me, and my needs. I was not happy to be anywhere but home, as I was told by my surgeon should be the norm. I was sharing a room, but my roommate an elderly gentleman was so nice. Even he would get up in the morning go with his walker to the bathroom, bringing back a clean, warm wash cloth for me to freshen up. Expectations were set for my stay, upsetting thinking it would be two weeks. Then came physical therapy, my first time my therapist understood my pain and did some in bed therapy. Then came Chris, my guardian angel physical therapist, he worked nearly 45 minutes getting knots out of my neck and shoulders. The entire team of physical and occupational therapists were amazing, within 5 days I was on my way home they had me up and walking and exercising in the gym. I am home now, I can't thank all the staff at la mesa healthcare enough. You pulled me out of my very scary nightmares state, that I thought would never end. I have to say even the food was very good. The kitchen staff cater to everyone's individual needs. Kudos to you all, my heart felt thanks always, when I'm fully recovered, I will be back to thank you all in person. 5 stars earned without question.
