They have a really nice facility with a friendly staff. I chose them because they were in my PPO and were listed as having "extended hours". They're open til 5, but the latest they make appointments is 3:50, which I found really annoying. I left work early to get to my appointment and had a pretty long wait time. My appointment was at 3:50 and I left the office just after 5. All that aside, I'm happy with the care I received and that they handled my insurance stuff for me. read more

I have been a patient for five years and each time I go to Shasta Eye Associates for my eye exam, the service is more and more like being on an assembly line. The staff is apathetic at best, the wait times are long, the high volume of patients processing through is so great that it is a challenge to find an open seat in the waiting room, not to mention the parking lot. The staff was impersonal. The doctor was hurried and bothered that I had a question about my vision. I would not recommend this eye doctor group. Dr. Silverstein continues to run TV ads staring himself without regard for the mediocre service that he presently provides for more patients than he can accommodate. In my opinion these doctors are misguided and too busy to care. read more

Worst eye doctor ever! I went there for a contact lens prescription and was treated like a pest. First, I asked for a cheaper brand of lenses but the doctor didn't write that down on the Rx. When I went to order them (from the same office) they refused to sell me the cheaper brand and said that if I wanted that brand I'd have to schedule another appointment with the doc. Second, the doctor never wrote me a prescription for glasses (and never told me it was a different thing-- I've always gotten them all at the same time). Again, if I wanted glasses, I'd have to schedule a new appointment. Third, even after ordering lenses from them multiple times, they refused to let me pay when I showed up. I had to give my credit card over the phone. Fourth, most recently I ordered lenses but they got the prescription wrong! read more

Unbelievably tardy here! Plan on an hour delay between appointment time and actually being seen. Staff is nice, but does not excuse docs who are ALWAYS VERY LATE. It's not like they take a long time with patients either-about 5-7 mins. No consideration of YOUR time! I'm going elsewhere! read more

First of all, I like to start off by saying," DOCTORS THAT OVER BOOK THEMSELVES! When a patient comes in and their appointment is at 7:30 in the morning & you make them wait for a half hour or more, your "OVERBOOKING!!" at the expense of the patient. This is my first time writing a review. I must say that the experience that I recently had with this office pushed me to do this. This was my 3rd year going to this office; in the past I was seen by Dr. Trent, but last year I had such a bad experience that I switched to Dr. Crum. Even worse experience this year! I got all the way through my exam, and the Dr. left the room without giving me my prescription for my glasses. I asked for it and they said it wasn't that type of eye exam. I was horrified, I've been wearing glasses for many years and thought that was what an eye Dr was for. The assistant said that since I was dilated I would have to make another appointment for that. She went out called the Dr back in and to quote him he "finagled" a prescription for me. I was disgusted to say the least. I get called up to check out and the receptionist tells me that my copay is $30.00, when I said no that is my medical copay my eye exam copay is $10.00, she explained that they had hit my medical insurance instead of my eye exam insurance. This was a worthless, unprofessional appointment from the second I walked through the door, and I will not be returning! read more

Turns out I needed Laser Surgery. The new outfit I went to, Riverside in Redding, was very puzzled as they said my Medicare would have paid for the surgery I actually needed. I really believe now that Lasik isn't the answer for everything and every problem. I finally have the great vision I was told I would get from Lasik but never did. There is a membrane behind the cataract which grows material that interferes with your vision, and it can also have floaters and in my case it nearly blinded me. If the eye company you go to doesn't recognize the problem, you will receive Lasik and not be happy. I am very puzzled with Shasta Eye, how could they have missed this ? read more

Let me share a few of my experiences and then you decide if this is the eye doctor for you: -- When checking in for my 1st app I gave the intake person my ID and my SS card which plainly says on the front: MEDICARE PART A ONLY (which means, in effect, I have no insurance) When leaving the receptionist said: "Your bill today is $56". I had expected 2 or 3 times that much but decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth and paid it with a silent "thank you". -- 2 weeks later I got a very strange voicemail from them saying that since I don't have any insurance I still owe the balance for my 1st visit - another $322! (ie: $378 for 3 vision tests and 10 minutes of Dr Lin's time) But the tone of voice was bizarre - as if she were speaking to someone she didn't trust *at all*. -- On my 2nd visit I had a field of vision test and then another exam by Dr Lin. On the basis of his exam and 1/2 of the FOV test he made a decision about my Glaucoma. I say 1/2 because he only had the results of ONE of my eyes for the FOV test - the results for the other eye - which I was about to pay him at least $100 for - were still on the computer across the hall. And his time is too valuable to waste walking across the hall to view another computer. So he shot from the hip instead. What does he care - he's not going blind. -- When checking out I paid for the 2nd visit (A mere $194) and attempted to pay the balance for the 1st visit but there was a question as to whether the $322 included their (ever so generous) 10% discount for paying in full before leaving. -- The next day I called their billing person who told me that I wasn't eligible for a discount for the 1st visit balance because I didn't pay it in full then. I explained that I paid every penny I was asked for but she was under orders to deny me this 10%. I ask for her boss. A very hostile woman got on the phone and after a minute of so it was very clear the she was convinced that I was trying to scam them by claiming to have insurance that I didn't have. I explained again that my SS card very clearly says PART A ONLY and that their intake person had missed that and, consequently, mis-charged me. We went around in circles for a bit but she had decided that I was a scammer and she was sticking to her story. There's a name for this perspective - it's called blaming the victim. My humble opinion is that Shasta Eye is potentially a poster child for everything that's wrong with the American Health Care System. Predatory pricing. Contempt for their patients. Maximize profit by spending as little time with as many patients as possible. They've got it all. I give them minus 5 stars. read more

I made the big mistake of making an appointment with Bruce Silverstein purely out of desperation. I usually shun McPractices like these, but I thought what I needed was pretty simple: An emergency exam so that I could get a contacts refill while I was staying in the area on an extended work contract. I had to wait about an hour to see someone. Once I saw the doctor, he was abrupt, condescending and pushed me to consider Lasik. When I told him I already knew I wasn't a good candidate for surgery, he became downright rude. The office person, who assured me that they would handle my insurance, botched the job, which made more work for me later. All in all a very dissatisfying experience, and further justification for my policy of never patronizing a doctor, dentist or lawyer that advertises on TV. NOPE! read more

had cataract surgery with bruce silverstein did away with my cataract but something went wrong when they measured my eyes for the new lens now i must were glasses for close( and) far away the ( rest of my life)!! but my eyes are clear now . maybe it was the person that measured my eyes or maybe because silverstine is in so big of a hurry!!!!!!!!! you know its a low cost operation only 2 or 3k per eye and anthem blue cross does not pay for the shasta anesiethea because there not in network. i will go some place different next time read more

Although my visit began with a negative visit to the optical department, this was one of the most Yelp-worthy experiences I've had in a long time. In short, I had been getting the "runaround" from the optical department, but Ash, Cassidy, Dr. Silverstein, and Jeremy, proved to be totally awesome, and made this potentially painful experience an awesome visit! I highly recommend Dr. Crum and Shasta Eye. Cataract surgery was kind of scary ("They're going to cut on your eye!") but there was NO PAIN during the procedure or after. Everyone at both offices was friendly and professional. My reading vision is 100%. The best is the COLOR I can see now. When comparing the eye that did not have surgery to the one that did, it is like seeing through a yellow haze. DON'T BE AFRAID!! It is SO worth it! read more

I am not one to write negative reviews I feel there are enough people to do that but in this case I am making an exception. I have been struggling with migraines and intermittent blurry vision for a few years. My last experience at the eye doctor was terrible so it took me a while to go to another one. I made it clear when I checked in that I was anxious because of the experience I had getting my eyes dilated before and they seemed understanding. The receptionist asked if I had insurance and I said no and I would pay for it myself. I went and sat down when a gentleman came in to pay his bill. I was shocked at the amount with insurance so I thought I had better ask how much the exam was going to cost. She gave me the run around about what boxes and codes they check and that a procedure was going to be $40 if I needed it. So I sat down thinking that is not bad I just getting a simple eye test! The assistant took me back ran about 3 tests on me. She was really sweet!!!! Then she took me to the other waiting room. I was called back the dr looked at my eyes for approx 5 min. Being generous. Looked at my file and explained my eye muscles are week and it happens to everyone eventually and get some over the counter readers and left. He didn't address my migraines tell me a strength of glasses nothing. Then I get the bill!!!!! $163.00 for no resolution and five minutes of the dr. 'S time. When I mentioned asking about the cost at the beginning the receptionist gave me a line of BS about a procedure that insurance doesn't cover. Which made me madder because she knew I was paying cash!!! Shasta Eye Group here is a suggestion stop treating your patient like cattle we deserve more than 5 minutes of the doctors time at those rates. Also just because there is not an insurance company to gouge doesn't mean we deserve substandard treatment. I am sure if I would have put up an insurance card there would have been some sort of diagnosis for my vision and migraines. read more

I was happy with the Surgeon and the actual medical end. However, that being said. The billing and administration end is a joke. Liars at best, but could possibly be just inept and incompetent. I paid every dime they put on their "Cost Sheet" was told, this is the complete total EXCEPT the anesthesia and the likes. Ok, fine. I accepted that and understood. NEXT! I was hit with nearly an additional $600 bill and a ration of attitude from the Woman in billing. I ended up paying the additional. Now 7 months later I am receiving yet another bill for $150.00. I call to speak to someone and get pushed to a voicemail and no return call. As far as Im concerned, Great Doctor, but no way in hell would I ever do business with this place ever again. I will travel to Chico or find ANY other place to receive eye care who I can actually have trust and faith in. Shasta seems to have a motto of Let us do the work and you will be paying for life! I warn anyone who goes, to be thorough in your questioning of the cost, although Im more confident you will be lied to. Watch, keep records, and be ready for bills as far down the line as you can possibly imagine. read more

I went to Bryan Crum for a surgical removal of a wart near my eye. He was very thorough and explained what he was doing in the procedure. I have absolutely no complaints. Didn't even make it to appointment process. Called the office at 11:45 am Thursday and was told I would be called back by the office by the answering service. Waited untill 4:15 pm for a return call...nothing. Called back and was told by answering service they had given the office the prior message and would send another and I would called back before the end of the business day or on Friday morning. Friday no call all day and now it is Saturday. Poor poor business pratices..I'll take my infected eye to another doctor...can not imagine how you would be treated if you actually got a call back from the office and an appointment. read more

Only have them one star because I had to. First I was in there for over 30 min (first time) without anyone telling me I had to sign in, or so much as acknowledging I'm there. When I finally got someone to help she told me I had to wait for the other associate as she was new and wasn't trained. If your not trained in a medical office you shouldn't be on the floor....when The other lady finally came over to help she was short and talked over me before I was done asking the question. When I patiently waited for her to be finished talking I let her know that I wasn't not finished then continued to ask my question. At this point she shut me out and basically told me I should go somewhere if I'm not getting what I want answered. Any good customer service person would help find the answer if they didn't know the answer. She told me to call my insurance myself and figure it out when it would have been a quick phone call or asked someone else who knew they're job better. Very frustrated and will never go back! I went in having to spent the rest of my FSA (over $600) should have been easy money for them but I'll take my business elsewhere! read more

As far as the surgeon, Dr. Silverstein is concerned, he was wonderful. All other departments on the other hand, leave MUCH to be desired. Prior to even scheduling a cataract surgery, I called to receive a price estimate, and was quoted a price, and was promised that the cost of any follow up visits would be included in the cost of the surgery. Okay, that's fine and wonderful, and I scheduled the surgery. Fast forward to a month after surgery, and now I'm in the middle of a battle between them and my insurance company over co-pays for 2 appointments that were billed as office visits that weren't supposed to be. The woman from Billing even said as much, but swears up and down that she coded everything "correctly", and that it's my insurance company's fault for reading the submission wrong. Of course, any insurance company only pays what the doctor's office tells them to pay, so they insist it's Silverstein's fault. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from these jokers. You'll be glad you did. read more
