I had been a patient for years....clear back to the original Dr. Nystrom and Dr. Goedert days. Janice in the front is a treasure. Dr. Janet Newcomb is pleasant and adequate... and the costs for products and services is expensive. Chris in the back seems to have become a little too rude and comfortable in her tech position and forgotten about customer service.... Chris will certainly let you know if she feels that you are an inconvenience to her. ... I have gone here for years. The doctors are great, as well as the staff. However, I will not go back until they take better precautions concerning Covid-19. Although they have plexiglass windows at the front desk, the workers behind the desks do not wear masks. Really? As if virus particulate in the air can't be transmitted around or above this glass shield? Also, those working in the back wear a mask when coming to the front areas, but as soon as they go back through the threshold, they remove their masks. Really? Then we have the folks sitting in the waiting room. All are wearing masks, but when my wife visited recently, several of these people wore those masks with their noses completely exposed. That's like fitting a diaper around a baby's knees. Unless these quasi-mask wearers are all mouth breathers, they are spewing their unfiltered breath into the air of a rather small room. And no one is telling them to fit their masks properly. So, if your politics allows you to ignore science, you will have no problem. But if you believe that Covid-19 is a problem (check out our rising figures and recent rise in deaths in Shasta County), then I'd wait until, either this Office starts getting more serious about the wearing of masks, or we finally get a safe vaccine. read more

Expect top-quality service at this Redding business. Before a two-month international trip I had an eye appointment and they were able to squeeze me in. It turned out that what I needed was neurolenses. Dr Newcomb to time to carefully examine my eyes and with new state-of-the-art devices, explained why I needed the change. I was a bit nervous about getting the prescription filled and glasses in hand before my departure, but this place came through for me for which I'm very grateful. We were in a sunny bright country and my progressive, transitions were just what I needed. read more

Having been a satisfied patient of Dr. Silverstein, I recommended him to my son who was in need of new glasses. The first set of glasses were dispensed in July, 2020, and cost $767.40. When the first set of glasses didn't work, Dr. Silverstein altered the prescription and a second set of glasses was dispensed for an additional $336.50. These glasses weren't much better, and could not be used at all while driving. My son called and emailed Sr. Silverstein over several months. No response. Finally, a letter was written to Dr. Silverstein in January, 2021. No response. Now, the only remedy is litigation, so a demand letter has been sent. No response. My son is disabled and on Social Security. He has no insurance for glasses. These expensive and useless glasses have created a hardship, Shame on you, Dr. Silverstein. Janice Phelps read more

This was my eye Dr for over ten years. They are pretty pricey but their customer/patient service has always been amazing. Today I asked for my prescription so that I could order glasses online. Mind you, I was literally there two weeks ago for my exam, measured for glasses and everything. Except my glasses, after insurance came out to over 300$. No surprise, but not in the budget currently. After speaking to the receptionist, and informing her the RX emailed to me was blank, she informed that it was an additional 89$ for the measurements. The ones already done and paid for by my insurance. But because I wasn't going to order their glasses, I would need to pay $89 to get them. They pretended to mail my prescription, like I wasn't going to notice the missing information?! Never will I be going back here. This was a very sad and disappointing experience for me. read more

I can't recommend this office highly enough! Dr. Janet Newcomb is so incredibly accommodating and intelligent. But it doesn't stop there! Every single person on staff is friendly and helpful. They have a wonderful selection of glasses and are more than accommodating if you opt to purchase frames, etc. elsewhere. Go there...you won't regret it. read more

Dr. Newcombe is great. His back office girls are very nice. But, the upfront not so much. I had an issue with very overpriced glasses that I had just picked up the day before. Their sign on the door said they were closing in 15 minuets. But the door was locked! There were still CUSTOMER's in the office. I stood at there door for a minute, when I heard the lady at the front desk say to a customer, "too bad were closed Merry Christmas ". then a very nice girl came and unlocked the door and asked what I needed. It was a 2 minuet adjustment. Not so sure I'll be back. read more

I couldn't help but laugh myself at the irony, I have a great job and it seems good coverage is hard to find....now I'm being laughed at by a bored housewife who decided to become a receptionist for a living. Excellent service, but pricey. Why pay $500 for frames, when you can get glasses for less, else where? Eye Mart offers two pairs for $76.00. The people who work at SPEC are happy and friendly. The lighting in the waiting area is, really too bright. Part of that problem is the bunch of mirrors, near their example frames. Price and lighting, are my only problems with SPEC. I had a great experience coming to the SPEC eye care center! They are very professional and efficient.

While the doctor was pleasant and clearly knew what he was doing. That is where my expectation of a good experience ended. The doctor ordered treatment and medical supplies that were never supplied to me, that of course didn't stop them from billing me and my insurance for them. Also, it took forever to get my glasses (several weeks) which I probably would have been ok with if it had been disclosed up front that it was going to take that long. All along the way, the only status that I got is because I took the time and trouble to call myself. Not a good customer service experience. read more

SPEC is fantastic! The staff are all very friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and appointments are right on schedule. Dr. Newcomb is excellent. We travel to Redding from Chico just to see him. When my son was 12, he was getting headaches from reading. Several other optometrists wanted to put him in bifocals, despite the fact that his vision was 20/20. Dr. Newcomb identified his issue, corrected his vision, and made it fun. He's now 18, his vision is better than ever, and he loves to read. I wouldn't trust our eyes to any place else. read more
