Avoid this place if you can!!! They are overbooked, understaffed, and out of touch. Trying to book an appointment is a major ordeal and the record keeping/billing is done by an outside agency!! They are only able to keep a years worth of your records on file on-site, and it's ridiculous. The staff is constantly rotating and poorly trained. The doctors themselves are good, but they are saddled with a patient unfriendly staff & antiquated operations, which reflects on them. Worst place I've ever been to, they never sent forms over to my health care provider, can't get a hold of anyone who doesn't speak clear English on the phone or understand anything. This has been the most difficult medical experience I've ever had. I have been in immense pain for months. Primary doctors cannot prescribe pain meds. Getting internal paperwork in this company to move is near impossible. This company told me my surgery was in authorization and I waited weeks only to find out from my insurance company that my procedure doesn't need to be authorized by them and they had not received anything. I also inquired about a non narcotic pain pump for post surgery and was treated like I was a drug Addict! I am 3 months post injury and have still not had my surgery. The Doctors are amazing but getting anything done on the referrals and paperwork side is almost impossible! They have NO QA Dept. So no one to take your complaints too and if you try to talk to anyone else, they either don't return your phone calls or defend their procedures. To Shasta Ortho... please Do Better because your patients are suffering in pain and deserve ease of access and compassion. FYI If you need your records do not sign the paper ROI. You get charged for copies when you can simply go on the portal nobody tells you about to print your own copies for free! read more

I was a patient of Dr Jenkinson's for over 3yrs and when my LTD company needed a report about my situation then my attorney needed a report and his help in my LTD appeal he refused to do either of them, was told he doesnt do those, would of been nice to know before I became a regular patient and paid him thousands of dollars then he screwed me. If you need any reports or support from your doctor I'd find somebody else as he doesn't back his patients! read more

I saw Dr. Nowak for a bunion surgery. From my initial consult throughout the procedure and first post op appointment Dr. Nowak and his team were absolutely incredible! He answered all of my questions and made me feel comfortable with what he was going to do. His scheduler got me in right away after being cancelled due to Covid-19 and she was very accommodating to my back and forth date requests. The Dr was available after hours to address an issue I had with the pharmacy. His Nurse Practitioner was friendly and took great care of me at my post op. The whole team I encountered at Shasta Ortho provided excellent service and I couldn't have asked for better care. read more

Front desk DEMANDED $153.00 for what was supposed to be a $30 copay (both my insurance card AND my phone app show $30.00 copay - but they're both wrong and THEIR COMPUTER is right) . They would not let me speak with an office manager. Instead, I was given a business card with her name (Sherrie) and a phone number with an extension. I ALMOST FORGOT - they wouldn't check the cost of an X-Ray and MRI because it was "my responsibility" to call the insurance company - and THEIR responsibility to give prices. After pushing back, she FINALLY gave me the prices, but not without stink eye and the unmistakable sense that I inconvenienced her. Shasta orthopedics billing is so messed up. My wife paid a debt of nearly 300 dollars due to insurance not covering some of her visits. That's understandable, however there was a separate 40 dollar charge from nearly a year and a half ago that just went to collections because we had no idea it existed. It doesnt make sense that she had two separate debts there and that it took them 14 months to send it to collections. The doctors and clinical staff are great but the billing is terrible and I feel they are very inconsistent in their charges. If you go here prepare for some serious headaches dealing with the billing dept. Edit: also it says a lot about the business that they only respond to the (very few) positive reviews. I have had the worst time with the billing department. You call and leave messages with detailed billing info because they are billing me incorrectly. No one calls me back and says there is a problem. They just keep sending me billing notices and now one that they are sending me to collections. You can't send someone to collections if you don't bill correctly and don't return phone calls. They are beyond frustrating and I will never ever go there again. They also read your Facebook private messages and don't respond to those either. Terrible customer service. Not worth the frustration. read more

They are concerned only about the money. If they can talk you into un-needed surgery, they make thousands. I had the surgery, which I got staff infection and had 4 more surgeries. 20 years later I broke my other wrist and again I was recommended to have surgery. Just before it was a year since her last visit we received a bill for an additional $500.00. We called to ask what the charges were for and the billing department couldn't or wouldn't tell us. We asked for an itemized bill several times and they could not tell us what the charges were for. Now they have sent us to collections. Just try to get someone to call you back!!. I had hand surgery a week ago and have called the office numerous times it always goes to a call center says "due to high volume of calls " call center person sends you to the medical assistant, where it then goes to their voicemail , and it doesn't matter what time of day you call. I would have thought there would be a little bit more compassion especially after just having painful surgery that someone would be just a little bit attentive in getting back in touch with you. I wanted to find out what was going to take place during my follow up appointment so I can arrange a time frame and know what to expect can't get anyone to call me back or care enough to give me an answer. so very disappointing. read more

I was a patient many many years ago at Shasta Orthopaedics, and had the worst care anyone could ask for.  First of all, I was in his office for a broken arm, and the word Carpal Tunnel was never mentioned in the appointment I had to go over my surgery with both Dr. Ferraro & Dr. Schillen, but Dr. Ferraro thought I said my hand hurt, so he dictated 20 minutes later, that I needed Carpel Tunnel Surgery, of which he slipped in while doing my other surgery.  He refunded my insurance company, but refused to tell them why!!! Dr. Ferraro must have a long conveyor belt and thinks all of his patients need Carpel Tunnel Surgery. Or maybe that is all he knows how to do. Dr. Ferraro's ability to figure out what may be wrong with his patients is impossible.  It took at least 9 months of PT, casts up to my armpit for 4 months, a bone stimulator for 70 days, surgery on my other arm, due to over use because my other arm was in a cast for so long.  I had to go to San Francisco to find out that when my arm was broken, my Ulna was shoved up into my wrist. And because Dr. Ferraro's office had me use a bone stimulator for 70 days, my bone filled in, so basically the Ulna in my wrist was too long, and there was no way I could bend my wrist over.   Am I the first person that has ever had a broken arm that did this?  The "Hand Specialist" as he is known as in Redding, never even figured that out.  It took my new Dr. in San Francisco 10 minutes of looking at Dr. Ferraro's x-rays to know what was wrong.  I had to have my Ulna shortened, which meant sawing my Ulna and my nerve in half, putting in a plate with 7 screws, to hold my bone in place that was pulled out of my wrist.  Quite an ordeal, but the care I was given in San Francisco was above board, and they knew what they were doing. Dr. Ferraro caused me years and years of problems, and I would never step foot in that office again!!!!! And now, his office has done it again!!!! I have a friend that is really messed up and he has not been the Dr. he should be, and it's obvious, he should be doing something else, or maybe just stick to Carpal Tunnel Surgery. Not to mention his inefficient MA. What a joke! I can't believe that almost 20 years after my ordeal with Dr. Ferraro, that he's still unable to diagnose anything different or out of the ordinary. And you'd think that maybe 'HE' would want to consult with another Orthopaedic Dr.  Wow, what a concept! He is so arrogant that he probably thinks he knows it all!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I almost never leave 1 stars reviews - I know how important they are to local businesses - but in this case, I have to warn other people of my experience here. If you are considering going here, please, for your own sake, read this before you do. A few months ago, I went in, had my knee looked at, and upon leaving, was told how much I owed - I paid that as I left, and was under the understanding that's all I would owe. Well, a few months later, I got another bill OVER DOUBLE saying that I also owed that much. Shocked, I called their billing department, and was told it was all a mistake, and not to worry about it. Whew, that's a relief! Well, a few more months later, I got ANOTHER notice saying I'd been sent to collections for the full amount! So I called in, and after being shuffled around about a dozen times, finally got to the manager. I informed her of the situation, and she said, "Oh look, you actually owe EVEN MORE THAN THE FIRST TIME!" Now the bill was EVEN HIGHER than before. This is craziness! Again, I was shocked. So I asked the manager why the second person I called said I didn't owe any extra money. She said that it's a third party billing company that they don't have control over. So even though I was TOLD over the phone my account was 100% clear, it didn't matter. At this point, I went to get my husband, and the manager actually HUNG UP ON ME. So I called back, and the manager went on to inform me that she had a voice recording of me agreeing to the higher charge... but when I asked to hear this supposed voice recording... she said SHE COULDN'T LET ME LISTEN TO IT! So apparently, they expect me to simply take their word for it. (Apparently they have "proof", but they're unable to show me? How ridiculous is that!) Hearing this talk of voice recordings, I asked if SHE could send ME the recording of the second person saying it was all paid for. Of course, she said she would look into it, but likely couldn't do that either. So, that's where we're at now. If things change, I'll be happy to update this review - in fact, I hope they're able to be reasonable and make this right. It makes me sad that local businesses in our community would do this - but at this point, I cannot recommend this business to anyone. read more

Ok, so I was never actually seen there. Not for lack of trying - but I find it inexcusable that my three messages left - on the main line that took messages, and two more with the person responsible for "new patients" were not never acknowledged. No phone calls returned - nothing. I had other options in Santa Rosa and Medford for orthopedics care so crossed this one off the list. But seriously? Unless they can post that their phone systems were down for that week I was trying to reach them, I think they get very low marks in customer service. I was referred to Shasta Ortho for hip issues. Took to months to see a PA and it was determined I would need hip replacement surgery and would scheduled contingent on getting prior authorization from my insurance company. After 4 weeks of not hearing anything I called Shasta Ortho and was told they sent the info but hadn't heard anything yet. So I called my insurance company and the had not received any such request and we had a three way call to Ortho, got a voicemail and left a detailed message. Each week for the next 3 weeks I called, alway got a voice mail and never a returned call. Finally checked insurance and the authorization can through. So I called left a message saying the same and the next day Ortho called and said that they are booked up until April of 2023! That is 4 months away! I am pretty fed up with the lack of professionalism this facility has. They don't answer phones or return calls. Patients are in pain and need to hear some kind of feedback. read more

I had a bad ski accident about 8 weeks ago. Breaking my hand and damaging my shoulder. I have never received call back from Dr. Chang or Shasta Orthopedics concerning my MRI report which was sent to them a week ago. This despite my calling multiple times a day. I was told he Dr Chang would call me back with these important results. This is horrible customer service. This office seems focused on the Medicare crowd. Hey Shasta Ortho not all your patients are near dead. Got the results of the MRI reading which showed I had a severe tear of the labrum in my shoulder in one day from my chiropractor in Boulder, CO in an hour at his office. I still have not been called back with MRI results. Need surgery according to The Steadman Clininic in Vail, Co Piss poor service. This place seems focused on milking the welfare crowd..quite depressing to think about how these folks and us/ the us govt have to deal with a business like this. read more

I truly wish I could give this place more stars because it is clearly a very successful facility just by the looks of it. I've come here several times in the last 9-10 months and nothing has really changed. Here are some pros and cons I can give updates for: Positives: Dr. Ferraro is excellent, funny and so nice. I will absolutely recommend any of my family and friends to him. The reception area is very clean and neat. The bathrooms are still some of the best and clean public restrooms I've been in. Although I haven't used it, there is an Owens Pharmacy here that could be convenient for some. They always seem to be running on time. I've never been called back more than 5 minutes after my appointment time. There was an instance in which the receptionist requested I step back from the desk due to HIPAA while she was on the phone. I definitely respected that. Negatives: Still, the women who work the front two desks are very unpleasant. This is a HUGE turn off. I've worked in a very successful healthcare facility in which customer service was our number 1 priority. Nothing irritates me more than to walk into this office and have no one make any eye contact with me or even smile. They are straight to the point and hardly say please or thank you. Almost every question I have for them I get, "uhh... I don't know. I'm new here" or "I'm just covering". Even when I walk up to check in I have the girl pointing around the corner or the girl next her saying, "she can check you in." This is just so frustrating. It appears they are all slow, lazy and uneducated for the position they are working. The front desk is where patients begin their first impression of the facility and to have this type of interaction every visit is very sad. The little coffee and snack area appears to be closed now. I really hope I can someday write a review for 5 stars. read more

I would rather poke myself in the eye than deal with the staff at this poor excuse for a medical facility. They are incompetent and rude about everything except ensuring they have your billing info. Well...I feel blessed today after my 1st appt. with the good Doctor Schwartz. He gave me all the time needed and looked at all my exrays/mri's, never made me feel rushed. We talked about other things besides my upcoming surgery. I would really feel confident about him doing my surgery on the other hand, exiting Kim was a complete downer...so rude. Gotta have great customer service in a business like this. He almost deserved five stars!!!!! She was the dissapointment along with Tracy who met me this morning@ 8am..my first visit.
