My husband had the tom yum (kha?) one and our granddaughter had the classic and I chose the chicken one. For sauces I chose two standards -- hoisin sauce and a mix i made of some soy sauce and vinegar (which I used for the dumplings). At our leisure -- it's all you can eat -- we tried many of the offerings. We skipped most of the exotic ones -- except my husband who happens to like chicken feet. I went for the seafood first. And liked most of what I chose, especially the large prawns which were my favorite. And I also really liked the rounds of shrimp paste. The clams were tiny, but good. The blue crabs were small and awkward to eat when so hot. I'd skip them next time. I also tried some beef and pork, but found the seafood options more to my liking. Of the veggies, I had a mix just to try a number of things. The baby bok choy leaves, the cabbage, and the bean sprouts were good, but I fell in love with those tiny little enoki mushrooms. Come hungry and be prepared to roll out the door. One thing I especially appreciated: they were working on improvements to the menu that day and asking customers to try and give feedback on a potential new corned beef hash dish. There's something great about a locally owned restaurant actively engaging its customers and always looking for ways to get even better. It took a little bit for the sandwiches to be ready. I asked for hoisin sauce, but they didn't have any. The guy at the counter explained that they only had fish sauce and peanut sauce. I asked to try a bit of both. The "fish" sauce he gave me was like duck sauce with red pepper flakes. The peanut sauce was melted peanut butter. Just okay, but better than nothing. The sandwiches were decent. The veggies were fresh and crunchy. But it would have been much better with hoisin. My husband tried the Vietnamese hot sauce that was on the table, as well. I used the peanut sauce. The sandwich just needed something. There were several other folks dining in when we were there. Plus a couple doing take outs. Luckily those dining in came in after us. Their orders took longer than they should have done. And they were out of one of the ingredients for two of their drinks and had to substitute. I imagine that during a busier lunch hour, you might have to wait a bit for your food. They seem to be still getting it together. There's potential here. And the group of Vietnamese people who came back for their second time seemed happy to have some of their own cuisine available in the neighborhood. I'm glad we came. Now we know.
